Muslimah clothing line

Rebirth of chic is an interesting clothing line from Southern California Muslim designer. I recently stumbled upon an article about it. The designs mainly was inspired by the street fashion.

According to the article on MultiAmerican.scpr.org, Rebirth of Chic's styles go beyond high fashion to what we described as local-girl cool, a punk/skate/reggae blend of Southern California pop subcultures.

These kind of styles usually are very popular amongst young generations. Mostly, I love to see how these "street style" can blend perfectly with Muslimah fashion and then create some kind of "cool" style.. :)

As you can see from the picture below, taken from RebirthofChic's site, I really fell in love with the "cool"-ness of the girl.. :)

Handbags Store (Part 3 - the end): Lawe

Continuing to my previous post, after visited DOWA and LUNAR, the last handbags store we visited was LAWE.

This store is specialized on producing lurik-ed handbags, shoes, shirts, and accessories.

If you do not know yet what lurik is, Lurik is a Javanese (particularly Yogyakarta and its surroundings) traditional handcrafted cloth, a striped woven material made by hand-weaving. Some named it as "a Stripes of Java in blissful colours".

Quoting Nian S. Djoemena from her book, as the only available reference, Lurik is derived from classical Javanese word lorek, meaning stripes, or pattern. Although the weaving of Lurik is technically very simple, the colour combinations and the carefully arrangement of the stripes and square in a harmonious and balanced way, produces enchanting motifs.

Sea of creativity rest in the mind of every people, and Lurik serves countless idea even to modify the growing awareness to preserve the environment and heritage into room of women empowerment. On the other hand, touch of creativity brings closer Lurik into everyday needs of anything functional, relevant and redecorating.

Lurik needs more innovative people to develop new trends and styles. Through this tireless effort of innovation and creativity we hope to make younger generations truly enjoy the tradition of Lurik.

This store also has a vision to preserve the hand-weaving tradition in Indonesia and simultaneously empower women, encourage women to contribute in improving their livelihood and take part in bringing prosperity to Indonesian people.

By far, Lurik usually sold as sheet of cloth or as Javanese shirt called Surjan. Young generations used to think that Lurik is "old fashioned" and worn only by older people or worn only in traditional occasions. With the vision above in minds, Lawe has been trying to make innovation on Lurik by making modern Lurik, an attractive and colorful products with a wide variety in designs, such as handbags, purses, shoes, book covers, accessories, and other functional products.

My aunties enjoyed their visit in this store. They were admiring the quality and designs of the products. Here are some photos of Lawe's products I took in the store:

Handbags Store (part 2): Lunar

Do you remember my previous post about the handbags stores I visited with my aunties? Yes, we were visiting some great handbags stores and fell in love with some of their products :)

After DOWA, the next handbags store we visited is LUNAR.

Lunar is a great handbags store, too. It sells high quality handbags with unique designs and the handcrafted ones.

There were handbags made from "pandanus", "rotans", and some plants' fibers. Also there were painted-handbags with paintings on them.. All handbags come with impressive color blocking. The paintings left when I went there are cute fishes and sandals.

Not only that, they also have beautiful batik-ed handbags and clutches using the earth-tone hues as the colors.

What I like also is that they accept designs from us to be made as a handbag as we want it to be. Some countries abroad have ever ordered a mass quantity of handbags from this store with designs provided by them.

If you drop by at this store, you can watch the production of the handbags in their workshop which placed right behind the store.

Handbags Store (part 1): Dowa

A couple months ago, my aunties came to my city to visit us. Then, during their visit in the city, they asked us to show some handbags stores which sell beautiful designed, unique, high-quality handbags, and better if they also sell batik-ed, ethnic, or other handcrafted bags.

This January, my aunty is going to visit her son and his family in the USA, so at that time, she wanted to bring them some handbags she bought here as souvenirs. She said that she knew they will love those handbags made in Indonesia.. :)

I knew some of the stores which sell those kind of handbags. Perhaps there are many more bags' stores with that specification that I did not know yet. You can share with me if you know other good quality bags' stores, particularly which based in Yogyakarta.

First store we visited was Dowa. They sell beautiful designs of handbags with rich of beautiful color blocking. They also sell knitted bags and clutches, and also pouches.

I love all those colors!

Fashion Newsflash and Hijab Tutorial

I have been so busy lately and have no time to write... As a mom of two boys and a wife, and working on a bit of small entrepreneurial things I'm trying to work out.. are already consuming almost all of my time! I only had a very little time for my "me time".

During this "little me time", I usually fill it out with blogging and reading. I love reading since I was a kid. And blogging.. I love it since I knew it several years ago.. :) These activities make me feel fun and fresh with new knowledge, info, inspirations, entertainment, and sometimes humor I got from them.

But, when it comes to blogging, I got distracted easily.. you know, with so many news and exciting info, I can help it but read them all one by one, and.. when I realized, ohh, my "me time" has run out and I haven't share a thing yet with you guys! :p

(Update: I read in one book that there's a site named ReadItLaterList.com that is useful to save and make a list of what we want to read later. I surely need to check this out.).

Or, I have been too tired to blog after I finished up my "duty" as a mother and a homemaker :)

Sounds cliche? But I definitely sure that many of you, especially Mothers, feel this way.

Many self-development books also have taught us how to be an effective person, how to manage your time effectively, how to be a very good multitasker, how to not get distracted easily when you are working (in my case, blogging) and so on. But still I feel that I am not as effective as I want to be.

So, I have to mind myself to keep learning on this my best.

Indonesia, Colouring the Muslim Fashion World

News from The International Fair of The Moslem World, December 14th-19th, 2011, in Paris, France.

Dian Pelangi with her collection. In Paris, Dian showcased 10 set of her collection in the fashion show as the opening show, inspired by the Russian style for Winter fashion.

As a continuation from my previous post: End of Year 2011's Style and Fashion News, about Indonesian Muslim Fashion that was acknowledged as the best and the most favorite design in the International Fair of The Moslem World 2011 in Le Bourget, Paris, France, an interesting news also came from Kompas Female newsletter.

It is written that not only Muslimah Fashion's designs from Indonesian designers have "a big applause" at The International Fair in Paris, but also the way Indonesian Muslim women wrap their headscarf attracted a big attention of people in Paris, France.

According to Dian's prediction, as she said to Kompas Female newsletter here, after the 'drape-y look' hijab wrapping, which is so 'in trend' amongst urban young Muslimah in Indonesia last year, the 'turban style' hijab wrapping would be a trend in 2012.

One thing from the news that also grab my attention is about Dian Pelangi's Coat.

It is the almost "sold out" piece from Dian Pelangi Collection in that event. It showed that many people in Paris love Dian's coat design, especially perhaps because they were in Winter during that event and they love colorful outfits, so the stylish, shocking-color, ethnic coat would be an attraction for them.

I'm so in love with the coat, too.. :)

End of Year 2011's Style & Fashion News

Today, I want to share a great news on Muslimah Fashion and some style tips I found at the end of 2011, and several new modest clothing lines for women.

A great news, especially for Indonesia, came from Paris, France.

As you have read from my previous post here about The International Fair of The Muslim World 2011 in Le Bourget Exhibition Center, Paris, on December 2011, thirteen top muslimah fashion designers from Indonesia held an exhibition/fashion show to showcase their designs and collection in that event.

And... the great news is... the fashion designs from Indonesian designers become THE BEST and THE MOST FAVORITE at this International Fair in Paris, France!!

Indonesia also get an honour as the honourable country, L'Indonesie Pays D'Honneur (negara kehormatan). This means that Indonesia can be the world's hub of Muslim Fashion.

Yeeyy... I love to hear this and I am glad for you, Indonesia! :)

Next International Fair of the Muslim World InshaAllah will be held on November 2, 3 and 4, 2012, in Le Bourget - Paris. So, keep an eye out! ;)

Fuchsia Riverstone

Theme: Date with Hubby

What color is Fuchsia?

The hot Pink-Purple color is called Fuchsia. On the purple side of pink, fuchsia is another name for magenta... and here is myself sporting my new favorite scarf, Fuchsia Riverstone Batik Scarf, for my "a week late" Hijabi Fashion Week - Day 6's Look: going date with hubby.. ;)

The scarf was made by a handmade-weaving technique with cute fuchsia riverstones motifs on it. The color gave a sense of romantic; the materials and the motifs gave a sense of ethnic yet fashionable and edgy.

Outfits:

Scarf by Ina'sScarf: Riverstone motifs, handmade woven made in Indonesia by the local craftmen. I am proud wearing this scarf.. :)
An ethnic necklace from Kalimantan worn as a bracelet.
Wedges with hexagonal motifs; The motifs look like Phyton-skin motifs.

Vacation Look

Hijabi Fashion Week Nov 2011 - Day 4
Theme: Vacation/Destination

If... I could go to anywhere in the world for a vacation or as an ideal destination that I'd love to be in, I would go to Europe and New Zealand.

WHY?!

Because... those countries are like fairy tales for me who was born and live in tropical country. I want to experience the difference.. Feel the different nature, weather, and culture. Also, I want to feel how it likes to be in the 'four seasons' countries. I want to see their beautiful nature-scenery and the magnificent old buildings they have. I want to taste the dishes and the local fruits... Watch the people and their street styles.

And, if I arrive during Winter, I would love to see and play with the snow.. Ohh.. and there's one more thing that can't be more exciting, is that I could be creative with my outfits using all the layering stuffs! ;)

Here is the outfit I would wear to reach my dreamed destination:

With the sunglasses and a light-weight maxi dress I worn, surely I should go in Spring/Summer time of those countries :)

Breaking the Rules: Checkered with checkered

Theme: Break the Rules

Usually, in daily life, I do not wear an outfit with "too much" motifs or prints, especially if the outfit also be in various colors.

Today, for Hijabi Fashion Week's Break the Rules theme, I broke up my own fashion rule.. :) I tried to pair check pattern with check pattern in several different colors... thing that I've never done before.

Here is the picture of the outfit.. I was sporting two-toned checkered blazer (red-white and black-white check pattern), with checkered vintage minidress in dark blue and black:

What did you think of this?
Did I succeed breaking the rule stylishly? Or, did I ruin the outfit?... hahhaha.. :D

I love to hike... Hiking the hill, the wood, the sand dune...

I enjoy the scenery surrounds me while I am hiking. It's so refreshing and made me appreciate the nature and its beauty God creates.. and for that, I am so thankful.

Here are the Themes for each day, so start snapping those pictures:

Day 1 -- Leaders in Hijab: what leadership roles do you have or want to try? (President, teacher, mother, Volunteer Leader, CEO etc.).

Day 2 -- Hobby/Recreation: What do you do when you have free time? (hike, sail, write, paint, etc.)
Day 3 -- Break the Rules: A stylish hijabi can look good in anything, even when she's breaking the rules! Pick a fashion/style rule you always follow, and show us how you'd break it in style! (Any style rule may be broken, except the Islamic criteria for hijab).

Day 4 -- Vacation/Destination: Where would you go, if you could go anywhere in the world? What outfits would you wear?

Day 5 -- Eid & Formal: It's Friday! Dress up! What did you wear for Eid? What do you wear to formal events/parties?

Day 6 -- Date Night: Yesterday you dressed up for you, today dress up for your man! What do you wear when going out with your (future) husband?

Day 7 -- Out with Friends: Finish off the week by hanging out with friends! Where do you usually go? What do you usually do?
