We always complain there’s nothing to do in L.A. This night, there will be no complaining. There will only be Advil for the next day. But here’s a particularly appealing fete: Sigerson Morrison shoes (8315 West Third St, near Sweetzer) will have a party in their backyard from 6pm to 11pm with cocktails, and you can view their heartbreakingly cute fall collection of shoes and bags. But at 7:30pm, they will present the “emo” band Automatic Loveletter playing live in the backyard. It looks like they’ll only play one set, so if you’re into this band – or live music in general – better get there on time.

FNO’s “The Show,” a giant fashion show from Lincoln Center in New York, is selling tickets to anyone who will be in NYC this coming Tuesday after Labor Day at 7pm. However, the show will be webcast live on CBS.com/FNO, and the live webcast will be hosted by Vogue’s Andre Leon Talley and Hanneli Mustaparta – which means tune in from your computers L.A. time 4pm on Tuesday. Particularly if you want to see the biggest supermodel names of the last few years on the runway. Gisele Bundchen (this is worth it alone), Lilly Donaldson, Angela Lindvall, Coco Rocha, the ever controversial Naomi Campbell, Sasha Pivovarova, Karolina Kurbox, Allessandra Ambrosio and Adriana Lima (the last two famous for the Victoria’s Secret catalogue) will all walk their expensive walks in clothes from fall 2010 (NOT spring 2011, which is what the NY shows will present) – all chosen by the editors of Vogue. The makeup will be done by the one and only, the genius Pat McGrath, and hair by Guido Palau. Hey, no getting on a plane necessary for this one – a great afternoon break for Tuesday at 4 for fashion lovers. Set your blackberries.

It’s a testament to a shoe designer, even one who lives in Europe, that he can bring out celebs like Victoria Beckham, Eva Longoria, Anna Kendrick, Kristen Bell, Kristen Davis and Rachel Bilson the night before Labor Day weekend to a Hollywood dinner party. This shows you how much women love Brian Atwood shoes – and the man himself. Charming, funny, and not exactly bad looking, Atwood is the perfect dinner party guest when he’s in town – so InStyle threw him a little dinner at Soho House last night to say hello. Atwood’s shoes are known for amazing design, sky high heels – and he’s been helped along onto the Hollywood red carpet by Rachel Zoe’s devotion to him and his shoes. Interesting to see what these A list ladies wore just before Labor Day weekend – all of them sporting new fall trends. Victoria Beckham wore the new “cigarette” skinny pantsuit, and Longoria donned a black pencil skirt with a sheer panel down the side, playing on a tuxedo stripe. Kristen Davis had on a black peplum dress, which is being shown a lot for fall. Zoe wore a black jumpsuit
with her Atwood heels. And of course, Soho House is the place where all the interesting celeb and entertainment biz events are happening these days. We spotted Conan O’Brien in there last week.

It invites people to come and have their photo taken with “Mr. Loubi and His Cannon.” You can trust there is no other Fashion’s Night Out invite like this one! It shows the designer in circus garb avoiding the blast from a nearby cannon. Well, that man may – or may not be – the real Christian Louboutin, shoe designer extraordinaire. Turns out, the photo’s New Yorkers will have taken are with a cardboard cutout of Monsieur Louboutin, who is probably in Paris designing shoes for the upcoming Paris fashion shows this fall. But at least we know he can make fun of himself and his image! But then, someone who makes the bottom of his shoes red probably would. – Merle Ginsberg

The invites and announcements are coming in fast and furious now: seems all of the L.A. retail scene is getting behind Fashion’s Night Out on Friday September 10th, one week from today. Here are two more events to add to the already significant number:

West Hollywood:

Foley & Corinna at 8117 Melrose (near Crescent Heights) will host a shopping party with their fall collection from 6pm to 10pm, with signature Stoli cocktails, hors d’oeuvres from The Den of Hollywood and cupcakes from Sprinkles. They will also serve up complimentary blow outs from Blow Salon while jamming to a live DJ. So this could be a handy place to start your evening, and have good hair the whole night long.

Beverly Hills:

Juicy Couture, 456 Rodeo Drive, Beverly Hills
Rodeo Drive will be the scene of a lot of action, but at the Juicy store, Rain Phoenix will perform a live acoustic performance, and we would not be surprised if some of her famous siblings showed up. Knowing Pam and Gela, the Juicy twosome, any amount of rock and movie stars could turn up in the store between 6pm and 10pm.

About a year ago, we were invited to a home in Larchmont to meet a famed French perfumer, who’d created iconic scents for Dior and Gaultier. His name was Francis Kurkdjian, and he was launching a new line of scents under his newly opened Maison under his own name. Along with Serge Lutens and Frederic Malle (all French – no coincidence), Kurkdjian is considered one of the great perfumers in the world – he’s created more than 20 of the best selling fragrances of all time and received a number of great reviews and awards. His entire line, including candles, debuted at Neiman Marcus a year ago, and now the brand and the store will have a little scented anniversary party. Marc Chaya, CEO of Maison Francis Kurkdjian, will be sharing innovative fragrance tips as well as the entire Maison Francis Kurkdjian product line at Neiman Marcus in Beverly Hills. The eponymous collection features cologne, eau de toilettes, eau de perfume, candles, interior perfumes, incense papers, a perfumed bracelet and even a unique collection of scented bubbles. If you have not smelled any of the master’s scents – and there are a few, including mens’ – we suggest you hit Neiman Marcus next week on Thursday September 9, between 1pm and 6pm, and be prepared to smell amazing. Every time I wear his fragrance called Ce Soir, I have a million people asking about it. And most of them are men. This is the effect I was going for! – Merle Ginsberg

You already know that this fall’s most major trend is the leather jacket – and no doubt, you’ve got ‘em in your closet – loads of em – in black, black, black. Which is good, and drag out those Rick Owens or YSL leather motorcycle jackets right now. But there’s a new kid in town: the brown leather jacket. Yes, it’s distressed. Yes, it has the ubiquitous shawl collar. Yes, it’s in that great new copper or clay color that’s looking so good with grey or black or army green or off white. But this Saddle Paper Thin leather jacket by Yigal Azrouel is actually three different jackets in one. Okay, so it is $1490.00 – unfortunately, the price of the average designer leather jacket these days. BUT it’s called the “3 in 1″ jacket. The sleeves come off so it can be a vest. The collar comes off. And even the bottom of the jacket zips off so it’s a shortie, almost a shrug. You can get a lot of use out of such an item. You can leave the house with the vest over a t shirt, and pop in the sleeves when it gets cool at night. And the leather vest look is very chic with jeans or even a dress or under another jacket. It’s at Satine (8134 W. Third St, 323 655 0426) or on shop.yigal-azrouel.com. Same price.

This just sneaked up on us – and boy, are we surprised! Our good friend and colleague, photographer/ music video and commercial director Matthew Rolston – known for beauty, fashion and celebrity expertise – is the Creative Director of SBE’s (Sam Nazarian) new hotel The Redbury, which just opened at 1717 Vine St.- and its new restaurant called Cleo – soon to be the hottest place in town. The style of both the hotel and restaurant is said to be “boho-chic,” and it looks as if most of the 57 rooms in the hotel have some red walls, hence the Redbury name. Rolston played the Phillipe Starck role here – Starck having designed Nazarian’s SLS hotel – mixing English antiques with design elements derived from a variety of Old World ethnic cultures. It also has a rock n’ roll theme. This suits Rolston, who’s shot many a famous pop star, from Janet Jackson to Michael Jackson to Adam Lambert for Rolling Stone. Cleo, the restaurant from Executive Chef Daniel Elmaleh, will have a distinctly light menu that evokes a contemporary mezze bar. Drawn from a variety of influences, Cleo’s cuisine is a modern twist on the foods and cultures of the eastern and southern Mediterranean, and it’s open from 6pm to midnight every night, so as this is L.A., it could take over the “late night” hang out area very quickly. And Mr. Rolston never fails to surprise and amaze us with his talents! – Merle Ginsberg
