Get Over It

Whether you love over-the-knee boots or you think they are a bit over the top, there's no escaping them this fall. I happen to like them although I don't have many occasions to wear them, unfortunately. But here are a pair of riding boots that have the right price to dive into the OTK look, or at least stick a toe in.

With the holidays closing in, the last thing I need to do is get excited about shopping for myself. But the Half-Yearly Sale at Nordstrom will get me every time.

Balenciaga could unveil a handbag made out of twist ties and plastic baggies and I'd still think it was genius. Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating just a bit, but I love me some Balenciaga.

Cruising Toward Spring

I have been in Europe for the past two weeks so the site has been sadly neglected. So I fully admit this next post was ripped from the headlines. sort of. One of my favorite sites, Refinery 29, highlights Petit Bateau's spring lookbook and the looks are so, so effortless and winning.

Lately, I've taken a keen interest in improving my jewelry stash. It is the single easiest, wallet friendly way to brighten up an outfit. Plus, it can push you to experiment a bit, allowing you to find a whole new direction to take your everyday look.

Never in my life have I heard the words polyester and shoes used together. There's always a first for everything.

I have a bit of advice. Don't ever try on a luxurious coat if you have no intention of buying it. Because you will be so, so sad to leave it at the store. I try not to do this because I tend to obsess over items left behind. I'm still scouring ebay for a Margiela skirt I didn't buy when it was on sale. Yes, idiotic. I know. Boy, do I know.

So my point is, the right coat is especially. um, special. when it's well designed, well made and well executed. And by well executed, I'm talking about it being the centerpiece of a kick-ass outfit.

On the Fringe

Fringe bags seem to have found new life this season. I keep seeing different versions of this look. Normally, I'm not into fringe - boho isn't my cup of tea - but this bag works for me.

Sure, you can find scarves for a lot less, but Inhabit makes such scrumptious knits I can't help but find myself longing for this. You can't feel too guilty about something that you'd wear all the time for years to come, right? I am so very good at justifying all sorts of indulgences.

Isn't it frustrating when your tastes are above and beyond your budget? I find myself coveting things I have no business wanting. I suppose that's the nature of having a fashion vice. I've been searching high and low for the perfect boots for fall. It's been hard because I often fall for very pricey versions - I'm talking to you Ann Demeulemeester - and the less expensive ones don't look as nice or exciting. Well, I need to get over it and start looking harder at some lower priced boots that actually look quite nice.

Spring Fling

While many of us are dusting off our fall shoes from last year or shopping for new ones, there are enticing offerings on the runway for spring footwear that makes you long for the sweet days of spring. At least it does for me a little bit. Speaking of sweet, these definitely fit the description.

Cream of the Crop

If the idea of cropped pleated pants leaves you shuddering at the thought, hear me out. There are some sassy styles for fall that do not look at all like rejects from your mother's closet circa 1987. In fact, these trousers are feminine and figure flattering if worn the right way. And the styling possibilities are endless.

Why is it that a brand with the backing of retail giant J. Crew still doesn't have an online store? Do you have an answer, Madewell 1937? I guess I will just have to admire the goods on your website because cities like Seattle, San Francisco, Chicago and yes, Portland do not have a brick and mortar store. Just think of all the people going without your on-trend yet sensibly priced jeans and boots! I'm talking to you Madewell!

It's going to be a fast ride when it comes to fall footwear. Hardwear like studs and buckles reign and I am definitely on board this aesthetic. And if anyone can rock it right, it's Balmain. These are tough, glam and all out gorgeous.
