Firstly, research and decide on the niche that you’re going to operate in online.  Can’t stress enough that this is the single most important decision you will make.  Decide on your niche and work on becoming a recognized authority in this field.

If you're a PLR beginner, look for unrestricted PLR products in that niche.  So that you can basically do anything you like with them.  Here's why…

i)     You’ll broaden your knowledge base about your chosen niche while you’re personalizing these products.

ii)     You’ll find a way to sell these products in conjunction with the one you’re developing.  e.g. use them as a one time offer.

iii)    Use them to assist in marketing your site… break them down into articles for submission to article marketing sites.

iv)     Amalgamating a series of products, all in the same niche, will start to brand you as an expert, and that’s invaluable in terms of your online success.

If you find that the product you’ve acquired isn’t good quality… don’t bother with it. You will come across those where the writer, in trying to make the eBook of a decent size, has used six words where one would do.  Or the writer doesn’t have english as their first language!  There's a lot of this around! It’s far too hard to edit these so that they finish up being of the quality you would want to put out with your name on it.  Firstly… make a note not to deal with that seller again.  Don’t delete these products.  File all your similar “rubbish” under “Unusable” or similar until you might need some info for an article, or you decide to grab the concept itself to work with.

Always take the time to turn a PLR product into something unique. Quite simply, that means:

Rewrite the eBook. Add the odd extra snippet from your “unusable” file.   Delete a whole chapter if you don’t agree with it.  Turn the whole book into your own "language" or how you speak… not the tone of the original writer.  Don’t worry… this might seem strange at first, but you’ll soon get into these rewrites.

Redo the graphics. This is a necessary skill you’ll need to develop if you don’t yet have the budget for hiring designers.  Keep a “design” folder for templates you collect from giveaways that have psd graphics included.  Psd graphics consist of “layers” and this means that you’ll be able to take an image from one template and place it with others on another template… making a graphic that is unique to your own product.

Find yourself a quality supplier of Private Label Rights. If they’re proud of their products they will:

List exactly what is included in your purchase.

Show you the salespage (if one is included in the package).

Include quality sales copy.

Include a download page for your convenience too.

Provide the eBook or report source… word.doc or text files for easy editing.

Provide psd files for all the graphics.  If they include blank jpegs too… great!

Show you the full licence terms, before purchase.

Provide a 100% satisfaction money back guarantee.

The latter is what the majority of plr resellers don’t do.  You’ve read it before… “We’re unable to offer a money back guarantee because you’ll be downloading the source files.  If this bothers you, please don’t buy this package, but if you want the best (etc., etc.,) money making deal before we withdraw the offer, you need to grab it right now!”  Sure!

Selling the resell rights products to a large number of people.

If you’ve put together a premium product at a high price and then sell it indiscriminately, it will soon loose its value.

This could make your existing customers so unhappy that they won’t buy from you again.  And, guess what… repeat clients are what we all need.  You know that it’s much easier to sell something to a happy existing client than it is to someone who you haven’t managed to reach as yet.

If it’s a high quality, unique product and you’re looking for a premium price then set a limit to the number of copies you will sell.   Quite often you'll see that PLR product originators will limit sales of the product to just 100 or 200 copies.  With the massive size of the internet, this means that each purchaser still has every chance to make a terrific return from the product.

If you decide to sell with no limitations, keep your price at a very reasonable level.

Selling the Product At Too Low A Price.

If you price your resell rights product too low and with no limitations on numbers, then the people who make a living online from reselling, won’t bother with it.   They know that, within a short time, huge numbers of this product will be spread around the internet, resulting in a price war.  This is where you can see resell products available for just a few dollars.  Not good!

Failing To Clearly State Or Explain The Terms And Conditions Of The Resell Licence.

Take a few PLR eBooks and combine them together to create one HUGE mega eBook.  Consider amalgamating a number of PLR eBooks that are on the same subject, into one authoritative guide. Take the key points and turn them into a special report that you can use either as a free download (from a squeeze page to capture people’s email address) or as a teaser (leaked free chapter!) to get people to buy your eBook. Read your licence.  Depending on the terms and conditions, you may be able to use the eBook as a bonus to products you are already selling.  And bonuses, particularly those that are in the same niche as the original product, really help to increase your sales success rate. You can also offer additional rights to your eBook that will enhance the perceived value (e.g. basic resell rights, master resell rights, re-branding rights, even PLR rights). Use your imagination for more ways… but stay within the rights you’ve been granted with the licence.

Personalize the graphics:

Commission or do your own new graphics.  And that includes the header & footer and especially the product eCovers.  This is the one major process that will ensure that your new product is “exclusive” to you.  And it’s worth every minute that you spend on it.  For one thing, you won’t finish up with a reputation for selling the same product as every other Tom, Dick and Sheila! This meant that people were now licensed to sell the product as the reseller and keep the profits.   This was a completely Win-Win scenario.  The creator would get a higher price for their product, and the reseller would get the resale rights.

The resale rights products industry is one of the largest online.  When you search for ‘resell rights ‘or ‘resale rights’ on Google, you’ll find a huge number of results.   It’s a massive amount of activity… a lot of people writing about and selling resale rights products, which in turn are bought by other people and then resold again within the limits of the resale rights licence. The cycle continues!

If you’re new to all this… firstly decide which niche you’re going to specialize in.  A good one to avoid is the Internet Marketing niche… it’s hugely overcrowded.  Do you have an interest in one of the Health & Fitness niches?  Or is there a hobby you’ve been interested in for years and know quite a bit about?  It’s a big plus if you really enjoy the niche you’re going to be working in.

So, you’ve researched and decided on your niche.  You now need to decide which “rights” you want to deal with.  The two major choices are MRR (Master Resell Rights) and PLR (Private Label Rights).  When they’re brand new and offered for the first time, you should find a major difference in price between the two.  With MRR you’ll be allowed to put your name on the website (if one is included) but most often any other changes or personalization are not allowed.  With PLR you’ll need to ascertain if the rights are non-transferable or no restriction… or anything else in between.  But generally, you’ll be licensed to totally personalize the product… add your name as author, and more.

And your choice between MRR and PLR comes down to this… are you happy to be a reseller (very little work required to have your new product up on your site and available), or do you want to build a brand and reputation in your own name?  We’ll cover what this means in terms of work, in the next chapter.

You buy a resale rights product from the creator himself or from the person who buys the rights and resells.  It doesn’t matter who you buy the resale rights product from, as long as the price is the same, but the original author or seller generally asks for a higher price.  As he/she is the originator and creator of the product, that’s his right.

When checking out the ‘resell rights’ results on Google, notice how almost every website is selling you some resell rights product.  Some are also selling packages.  If you’re new to the resell rights industry, it’s worth the time to go through these offers to get a better understanding of how resale rights works.

Multiple product packages generally come within a price range of $9.97 to $199 in a variety of websites.

A word of warning… check out a good few sites before you decide on a purchase.  If you keep seeing the same product for sale across a lot of sites… it’s value has been compromised.  Now do a search for the product name that you keep seeing, and you’ll probably note that you can pick it up somewhere for just a few dollars.

Basically this means that the product has become widespread and that all of those people who acquired the product didn’t take the time to alter it in any way (if the licence was PLR) to make it unique and special.

To continue to make good money with your version of any PLR product, take the time to change the graphics and website and then edit the product in a major way.  You’re basically creating a whole new product which is unique to you.

If the products have been around the internet for a while, there’s a possibility that a lot of them will be bundled all together and then sold for a very low price.  At the other end of the scale, there can be a brand new, single product which is sold for a very high price.  High three figures as a price, has been known.  But this is when the product is first class and the numbers of licences available are extremely restricted.

What all of these rights have in common… you won’t have to pay any commission to the original owner.  You have the right to keep 100% of what you achieve in sales.

To begin with, there are the simple resale rights.  These give you the right to resell your product and offer you nothing else.  This basic resale right will not allow you to claim that the product is your own nor can you give someone else the resale rights for this particular product.   Often, your licence also features the minimum price at which you can sell these products.  And the personalization that you’re allowed is extremely limited too.

These rights are generally the cheapest rights you can purchase and, in a lot of cases the product will actually be free.  For example, if someone puts together what is known as a Viral Giveaway… this is a product which contains information on the person who has put it together… or their major product.

Say it’s an eBook.  To have it “go viral” the product should be a really good one.  Offering great information on a particular subject.  As a poor product, it won’t do the job.   You get it for free, with giveaway and resell rights.  So… you’re allowed to give it away or sell it.  What you won’t be allowed to do is to change it in any way.  The person who put it together hopes that you will distribute it to your colleagues, friends and family – and they will distribute it to their friends, mailing list, family, etc.  That’s why it’s called “viral!”  And a good quality viral product or eBook can extend far and wide around the internet very quickly.  “Good” is the major clue here.  It has to be a quality product so that people are impressed with it and keen to pass it on.

Master resale rights are a little more complex. These rights often  come with a webpage to help onsell the product. These rights allow you to not only sell the product but also to pass the resale rights for this particular product to your customers.  If you sell the product to someone, then they can sell it to someone else.

These rights may allow you to give away the product, bundle it together with others, resell it, create new information packages with it, or include it in membership sites.

Master resell rights do cost more than standard resell rights, but this is understandable since they give much more control to the new owner.

However, the rights may vary somewhat, depending on who the creator of the product is, and I can’t stress enough that you study the licence thatcomes with any product, for precisely what you’re allowed to do with it… or not.

Rebranding rights are those which deal with products which are similar to the ones described above, but they are more restrictive.  Most often you can only rebrand certain links within the product, to include your own affiliate links.  You’re not allowed to alter the main content in any way.

PLR (private label rights) is also sometimes known as source code rights. And that means that you’ve been provided with the original product in a format that you can edit.  i.e. an eBook will be provided in a word processor format such as Microsoft Word.  You edit it to your hearts content… and then turn it into a pdf to have it ready for sale.  You’ll find a free word to pdf converter at Primo.

Since PLR has become so popular, there have been many different licences developed.  “Unrestricted PLR” is highly prized by some.  But for the serious marketer, this is a product that can quickly become “abused” i.e. spread all over the internet at low cost… or free, and therefore looses its’ value.

“Non-transferable PLR” is at the other end of the PLR scale.  The purchaser is allowed PLR rights, but may not pass these rights on or sell them on to their own customers, restricting the product licence to MRR or RR.

When it comes to price on individual PLR products, the fewer licences available, and the higher quality and inclusions, the higher the price.

If the product is software you may be allowed to change the source code that comes with the product, which will alter the software to suit your own requirements or to remove any bugs in the product, before you sell it in your target market.  But this is a task generally left to those who understand software.

On a totally different form of rights from all of the above… Royalty rights are usually associated with physical products and even though you are allowed to resell the product, you cannot keep 100% of the profit.  You have to pay the original author a commission or a certain percentage of the income per sale.

Every product is different in some way and will come with its own resale rights licence.   And as most PLR products don’t come with product satisfaction guarantees (owners will tell you that they can’t offer your money back as you’ll be downloading the source files) it’s important that you are able to see the licence terms and decide whether they’re too restrictive for your purposes, before you purchase.  At FastPLR.com you’ll be able to view the licence terms, the salespage and a list of exactly what your new package will include.  No surprises!

Basic Resale Rights: (RR) This is the one time resale right. You’ve bought the product with basic resale rights. This means that you are allowed to onsell the product itself, but you may not pass on to your customer the rights to onsell it. Their purchase only includes the product itself. It would be very unusual if you also received the rights to change any part of the product.

Master Resell Rights: (MRR) You are allowed to onsell the product and your customer is allowed to do the same. In most cases, if it’s a good quality MRR product, then it will also include a website… and even, if you’re lucky, a download page too as well as all the graphics that go to make up those webpages. Most often, you will be allowed to add your name to the webpages as the seller… the “authority”. It’s unlikely that you will be allowed to make any other changes. Most licences will actually list all the things you are allowed to do with the product… as well as what you’re not!

Personal Private Label Rights: This licence gives you the rights to alter, improve, redesign the product and put your name as the author, but you are not allowed to pass these rights along to your own customer and you are not allowed to freely distribute the product in any way.

Private Label Rights: (PLR) This gives you, as the owner of the product, the rights to do just about anything that he or she wishes to do to the product. They can put their own name as the author or maker of the product; make any changes they wish to the product. However, most PLR products, at the very least, do not allow you to give the product away. This maintains the value of the product as you sell it.

Then, there’s the top of the line:

Unrestricted Private Label Rights: (UPLR) Exactly what it says. There are no restrictions to what you can do with the product. It’s entirely up to you.

With all resell rights, you’ll find that the individual producers may have added some particular restrictions. For example, people who use the Warrior Forum to advertise a special deal on their PLR products, will include a restriction on you doing the same. Others will stipulate that you’re not allowed to resell the product on auction sites. And this is why it is essential that you are given the opportunity to see the licence conditions before you buy.

Many Internet business owners rely upon finding good products with resale rights, particularly UPLR.  Look for a product that includes a full 100% satisfaction guarantee, a professional website appearance (that you get to see before purchase), great graphics with psd files, good salespage copywriting and the ability to inspect the licence before purchase.  N.B.  If there’s no satisfaction guarantee and you’re unable to inspect the licence… you’ve no way of achieving a refund if the licence is too restrictive for your purposes.
