Chixdiggit! classics now on Fat! Preorder now!

Canada’s proudest pop-punk band, Chixdiggit! celebrate 20 years as a band this year! These bards of the north know how to write a catchy, fast paced tune or two and on July 23rd, we’ll be releasing Double Diggits! Say what? Pay close attention because this release is legit. Classic Chixdiggit! albums Born On the First of July and From Scene To Shining Scene are getting a makeover. Both albums were originally released on Fat’s skinnier counterpart Honest Don’s but never quite received the attention they deserved. This is why we not only re-mastered both albums, but combined them onto one fully loaded disc, what with the 8 super rare bonus tracks we also tacked on! Vinyl nerds rejoice because while both LP’s have been out of print, we are reissuing them complete with the bells and whistles of the CD (re-mastered plus bonus tracks). Stay tuned for Chixdiggit! tour dates and get ready to light those firecrackers on the First of July!

Pre-order Double Diggits, Born on the First of July, From Scene to Shining Scene, AND Get Dead’s Bad News NOW!

Morning Glory EP out today!

MORNING GLORY’s new 7" “Born to December” is out today! The a-side is culled from last year’s full length, Poets Were My Heroes and is backed with two songs exclusive to this EP, and you can order it now! Ezra, singer for Morning Glory had this to say, “While Born is a 6 ½ minute epic, the two B-sides are never-before-heard rockers which were tracked during the same sessions in early 2012.” Lucky for you we’re streaming the entire EP over at New Noise Magazine AND running a contest! If you missed their also-epic video for “Born to December”, you can watch it right here. Check out what’s been going on in the Morning Glory camp from bassist Metal Chris:

Our first European tour ended a few weeks ago and we saw there was so much fun to be had that we found ourselves poring over maps, making all kinds of plans for more places to play. We realized we were only scratching the surface of some wild touring. Then unexpectedly though perhaps fortuitously, our drummer departed, which has briefly anchored us here in New York City. This is where we take a deep breath, cough out some black stuff and get back to work in the studio to finish up the new material we’ve been writing. I’m not ashamed to say it’s some damn good stuff. Hold tight, we’ll be pulling those maps out soon enough.

NIGHT BIRDS’ brand new EP Maimed for the Masses is out today and you can order it here! These guys are making the most of their year with no signs of slowing down. We’ve already premiered “Maimed for the Masses” and these East Coast surf punks have their entire EP streaming over at Alternative Press right here, right now. AP also included a nice run down from vocalist Brian Gorsegner like this fine quote “We have all chipped plenty of teeth, gotten bruised up, sliced up, even a busted rib along the way. There is something about that 30 minutes when you’re playing where your well being just doesn’t seem to matter.” We love existentialism. So, what are you waiting for? Order your copy, check their tour dates, and get ready for their upcoming full length; Born to Die in Suburbia, to be released by Grave Mistake Records on July 9th!

SUNDOWNER signs to FAT!

Holy smokes, we’ve got another goodie for you: Fat will be releasing the next Sundowner record! Sundowner is the solo outlet of Chris McCaughan, the songwriter, vocalist and musician from Chicago, Illinois who also happens to be the guitarist and co-lead vocalist of The Lawrence Arms. Sundowner, whose studio albums feature Lawrence Arms bandmate Neil Hennessy, debuted in 2007 with the release of Four One Five Two on Red Scare, followed in 2010 by We Chase the Waves on Asian Man. Chris says, “Both records were different and needed to be on different labels, this one follows the pattern.” On writing the record Chris reflects “It was all written and recorded in Chicago, and in a lot of ways the record is about the city.” While we’re not quite ready to debut a track you can get reacquainted with Sundowner via Chris’ soundcloud player here. Read what Chris had to say about signing to Fat below:

Fat Mike called me up to talk about the new Sundowner record and I said, “I really didn’t think you’d like it…” and he said something like, “Yeah, I didn’t think so either. I was kinda surprised. It’s a pretty good record. Good songs.” And, well… here we are. Got lots of love for the Fat Wreck crew and I’m extremely stoked to be teamin’ up with them to release this new album. Furrr sure. -Chris

The release of Get Dead’s debut Fat full-length, Bad News is all set for July 23rd! Bad News features 12 punk infused tracks showcasing their diversity from rock and roll riffs to introspective acoustic numbers. Recorded at Motor Studios and produced by Fat Mike, you can read what vocalist Sam King had to say about the band’s experience below:

All of us in the Get Dead camp are obviously really excited to have Fat behind us. I slept in a park like a hobo so I wouldn’t miss our first recording session for the Bad News album at Motor Studios in SF. Fat Mike helped with production, heckles, and beer when needed which was appreciated. Our bass player Tim also had the birth of his first child, Franki Lou, which made things that much more awesome. We will be touring Europe in July and hopefully a U.S. Tour sometime around September.

Tony Sly tribute album

Tony was a fucking amazing songwriter and one of my dearest friends. His death was traumatic. Horrible. I’ve had friends die, but this was different. Tony wasn’t finished.

I’ve been putting together this tribute comp for some time. It’s incredible how many bands have called me wanting to be on it. It’s been my absolute privilege to put this together. What I wanted to show on this record is how amazing Tony’s songs are.You can tell a song is great when it can be done in any style and it’s still great. That’s what this comp is about. All the bands are doing No Use for a Name songs or Tony Sly songs with their own take. It’s a real tribute to his songwriting.

I wanted to make a comp that Tony would be so proud of. These bands were his closest friends and his favorite bands. I thank all of them for stepping up and showing their love and respect to Tony and his family. It’ll come out in a few months and we’re gonna have a fucking crazy party when it does. You’re all invited to do the same.
- Fat Mike

Some of the bands:
Bad Religion, Lagwagon, Dropkick Murphys, Rise Against, NOFX, Frank Turner, Pennywise, Gaslight Anthem, Bouncing Souls. And about 20 more…

Less Than Jake back on FAT!

Looks like the team is officially back. Following the 2012 reissue of the Fat classic Borders & Boundaries and the subsequent EP collection Greetings & Salutations, it only made sense to bring Less Than Jake back into the Fat folds for real. This Fall will see a brand new Less Than Jake album on Fat Wreck Chords, their first full length of brand new material since 2008. Don’t miss these gents on tour as they’re hitting Europe, South America and these recently announced U.S. dates!

Vinnie from LTJ had this to say: “When we first talked to Mike about repackaging our limited EP’s into Greetings & Salutations, it was a casual conversation about our new songs and direction. Then we started to write songs for a new record. Working with Fat feels right and with that said we are happy to be headed into the studio in May knowing that Fat will be handling the next record…"

If you need a little catch-up on your Less Than Jake listening, check out one of the killer songs from Greetings & Salutations: “Done and Dusted”

Here is a preview of LTJ in the new issue of Inked Magazine!

Night Birds "Maimed for the Masses" listen now!

East Coast surf punks Night Birds have premiered their new song “Maimed for the Masses” today on Brooklyn Vegan! The song is the title track from their new EP, due out May 7th and available for pre-order now! The title track will be your first ferocious taste of their upcoming full length, Born to Die in Suburbia, to be released by Grave Mistake Records this summer, while the B-side contains 3 rippers exclusive to this 7”. Brian Gorsegner, vocalist of Night Birds elaborates: “’Maimed for the Masses’ is about giving something you love your all, even if it means bloodying and destroying yourself along the way, because it is all you know. Whether it is playing rock & roll, skateboarding or wrestling, it’s that “play to destroy” mentality that is truly inspiring. This song is more specifically an ode to wrestler Mick Foley. These are some of my favorite lyrics Joe has ever written and I am glad to finally have it on wax.” And if you know these dudes, you know they keep it old school with no colored vinyl. You collectors are gonna have to dork out on a limited run of heavyweight black wax instead. So get ready to tear your heart out and catch them live on their upcoming tour!

Morning Glory’s First Video Ever!

Morning Glory have a new video, and their first attempt at the visual medium doesn’t disappoint. Ambitious would be an understatement considering “Born To December” clocks in at over 6 minutes. That’s a lot of footage to capture in the dead of a New York winter. Early Gates, drummer of Morning Glory, recounts, “We have never done a video before and decided to do this one just for fun. And except for the cold weather that’s exactly what it was. The death shots in which we kill the hipster versions of ourselves were particularly enjoyable as we got to use fake blood, which took up the entirety of our budget. We hope everyone likes it.” The track “Born To December” is the title track of their upcoming 7-inch and is culled from their latest full length, Poets Were My Heroes. Head over to Visions Magazine to watch the video, directed by Christopher J Ryan at Dedicated-Lane Productions and stay tuned for the 7” pre-order, coming very soon.

Rise Against – RPM turns 10!

Chicago’s Rise Against are celebrating the 10th anniversary of their breakthrough album, Revolutions Per Minute, with a reissue out May 28th. This edition of Revolutions Per Minute (dubbed RPM10) features 10 bonus tracks of demos along with the originally recorded album and expanded packaging. Recorded at the Blasting Room and produced by Jason Livermore and the renowned Bill Stevenson of the Descendents, this quintessential album shaped Rise Against’s sound with elements of hardcore, punk, and ripples of emo that cascade into what we know of the band today.

Bass player Joe Principe, vocalist Tim McIlrath, guitarist Todd Mohney and drummer Brandon Barnes headed to the Blasting Room in 2002, armed with their new material. “We wrote these songs above an antique store in Chicago where the owner would rent roach-infested rooms to bands… In a post 9-11 fervor, the powers that be had just finished lying to the public and swindled their way into entering what would become the longest war in our country’s history (which seeped into songs like “Blood Red, White & Blue”),” says McIlrath.

Obviously, 10 years later, the results speak for themselves. Revolutions Per Minute still stands out as a hallmark release for Rise Against, Fat Wreck Chords, and the hardcore punk genre in general. RPM10 is the perfect tip of the cap to such an extraordinary album.

Coming Soon: STRUNG OUT - VOLUME ONE

Strung Out, LA’s finest in speedy melodic punk mayhem, is one of the hardest working bands of the last 20 years. With a career which has so far produced 7 studio albums, numerous EP’s, a live album and a mind-boggling number of shows, they continue to be a significant staple on the indie punk scene. In celebration of their longevity and with the positive feedback from fans for both 2012’s Twisted in a Suburban Wasteland tour and the remixed songs on Top Contenders, Strung Out decided to finish the job and have Ryan Greene remix all three of their classic 90’s albums in their entirety. This summer will see the release of deluxe reissues of Another Day In Paradise, Suburban Teenage Wasteland Blues and Twisted By Design! Three special records that certainly deserve some special treatment, and that’s what will be on offer with these reissues and the all-encompassing Volume One box set, which will include the 3 albums plus a DVD that drummer Jordan Burns details below:

We are all pretty stoked on this box set. All 3 albums are sounding so fresh and revived. If we didn’t think you would all love it like we do, we wouldn’t be putting it out. Also the live DVD from our Twisted In A Suburban Wasteland tour last year is going to be sweet. Filmed in Montreal Canada, it will include both STWB and TBD live. I know, our first DVD ever and its looking great!

The album features thirteen tracks that blur the lines between bluegrass, country, and punk. Take a look at what CMT Edge had to say. A first for us, it isn’t often we get a nod from the country circuit. Beginning today, head over to Spinner to stream Down Side Up in its entirety.
New Morning Glory 7" in May!

We thought it fitting to release a winter themed 7” in the spring since Morning Glory encapsulate so many of the tenets of warmth and cold. They’re punks after all, yet they have a sweet uplifting side which you can hear in the heavily piano-laden song Care of Me from 2012’s full length, Poets Were My Heroes. This spring we’ll release the Born to December single, the a-side also culled from Poets Were My Heroes, backed with two previously unreleased songs. These East Coast punkers are gearing up to jump the pond on an extensive tour of Europe and just completed filming an epic video for “Born to December” which we’ll be premiering soon. In the meantime, read what Ezra from MG had to say about the release below:

This [Born To December] happens to be my personal favorite tune off of the Poets record, so I am very excited that it is going to be our first 7" single. Ever. While Born is a 6 1/2 minute epic the two B-sides are never-before-heard rockers which were tracked during the same sessions in early 2012. We’re printing this one on camo vinyl- it’s going to be very special! And not only that, to help celebrate this release we did a Born video, our first ever. It was a massive production with no budget and involved 40 extras and crew members to be out in the cold New York winter all day for a few days. It made us do some serious reflecting on the title of the tune, and we all agreed our next video must be called Born to July, or Born To The Bahamas, or some such warm fuzzy nonsense. Next month we’ll be touring Europe, and since it’s our first time, we hope to see all you punks, rockers and karaoke heads alike- out at our UK shows to help us sing every word.
