We are pleased to announce the release date, tracklisting and cover art from the beloved hardcore punk band Paint It Black due out on August 18th. This new four song EP titled Surrender is part two of their 7” EP’s planned for the summer. The first, Amnesia was released by Bridge Nine in June and you can read about it here and hear a stream of the 7” here. Paint It Black are renowned for their live shows and lucky for us they have announced tour dates in September on the east coast and abroad so be sure to check them out!

New *American Steel* MP3 available for download, and Fat Mike tells the ugly truth about *NOFX*'s latest comp contribution!

American Steel have posted the first track from their upcoming release, <a href="http://www.fatwreck.com/record/detail/741"target="_blank">Dear Friends Gentle Hearts, out July 21st. Ring in the summer with this rousing, raucous tune, <a href="http://s3.fatwreck.com/sync/audio_track/the_audio_file/242/Emergency_House_Party.mp3"target="_blank">“Emergency House Party”. The band suggests some recommended listening activities right <a href="http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendId=34234474&blogId=494008164"target="_blank">here.

NOFX are featured on The Warped Tour comp out on <a href="http://www.sideonedummy.com/"target="_blank">Side One Dummy. You can get your copy <a href="http://www.interpunk.com/item.cfm?Item=165924"target="_blank">here, but you may want to hear what Fat Mike had to say about the wheelings and dealings that went into the “business negotiations” first:

Hi everyone, here’s what happened: some people at Side One Dummy Records asked NOFX to be on the cover of the Warped Tour comp. We said “NO!” . Then they sent over some “Comp”-romising photos from our last trip to Japan that no one really needs to see. So we let them use a picture of me and Hefe for the cover. A week goes by and I get a call from them again. This time they want an unreleased song for the comp. I told them to go to hell. Then they sent over more photos. The next day NOFX went into the studio and recorded a new song for them. They liked it so much they only charged me $10,000 for the remainder of the photos. Thanks guys. You’re the best! Fat Mike

<a href="http://icanhascheezburger.files.wordpress.com/2008/02/funny-pictures-white-fluffy-omg-kitten.jpg"target="_blank">OMG, Mike, TMI!!!

*Paint It Black* 7" out on Fat August 18th!

We are proud to announce we will be working with the crème de la crème of contemporary American hardcore—a little band called Paint It Black. After releasing three full length albums, PIB has decided to return to the 7” format, as they explain here:

We feel really fortunate that we’ve been able to release 3 albums that have been both exciting for us, and also well-received by the kids and the press. That being said, we can’t think of a single hardcore punk band that has released more than 3 awesome full-length records, and we’re not nearly arrogant enough to imagine that we’ll be the first band to make that happen. The 7” EP has always been the ideal context for the kind of music we play, and so we’ve decided to release music in that format for the foreseeable future. The most exciting thing about this decision is that we don’t have to wait so long to release a new record, which lets us be more spontaneous and stay more intimately connected with the kids that support our band. So to sum up, we are stoked, and we hope you are too.

This well-spoken, passionate, technically formidable quartet will be releasing two 7” EPs this summer. The first will come out next week on <a href="http://www.bridge9.com/"target="_blank">Bridge Nine, the second, right here on Fat Wreck Chords, August 18th. It will be available on vinyl and as a digital EP. More info coming very soon.

*Pour Habit* _Suiticide_ out today!

We are proud to bring you Pour Habit’s first ever Fat Wreck Chords release! They are currently out on tour with NUFAN & Only Crime—check out the dates <a href="http://www.fatwreck.com/tour/single_artist/94"target="_blank">here, and get your copy of Suiticide here:

Fat Mike had this to say:

So, Pour Habit’s record comes out today. It’s pretty cool. I just got off the road with them and I gotta say, one of the best bands we’ve ever had open for us. Whether or not you buy their album, you should for sure see them live and buy them drinks. And if you give the singer a dollar, he will spin on his head for 5 seconds. True story.

Oh, and one more thing:
Just for the record I wanted to say that I wrote the song, “Creeping Out Sara” to be funny and offensive and even a bit danceable. There seemed to be no problem, until a couple of magazines printed that NOFX were dissing Tegan and Sara in the song. Totally backwards. I was dissing myself in this song. I like Tegan and Sara and Sara was a total sweetheart when we met and talked that day I sing about in the song. The next day I felt like a total creep, so I wrote a song about how lame and inappropriate some of my questions were. So yes, there is offensiveness and disrespect in the song, but it’s all directed at me, Fat Mike (Drunken Creep, opponent of Prop 8, Morman church hater, and proud writer of many offensive songs).

Now Iron Maiden on the other hand…

*NOFX* _Coaster_ out today!

NOFX’s brand new full length record is out today on CD, vinyl and on iTunes for digital download. Get your copy now:

But that’s not all! Fat Mike has this great news to report while on tour from across the pond:

Things I learned going to Ireland: Don’t order Bushmills in Dublin. Don’t order Jameson in Belfast. Don’t drink too much on the ferry, or too little, cuz either way, you will get sick.

Oh, this is the important news: the NOFX record comes out today. What’s more important is that it will be priced under $10 in every store in North America. This is not a sale. This is how much this CD costs, and not only that, but EVERY CD on Fat Wreck Chords will now be under $10 and most will be under $8.

No, we are not crazy. We just think that having a very low CD price is a fair way for scene supporting music fans to support their favorite independent bands and labels. Sound crazy? I think it sounds reasonable. We make less profit, but bands hopefully will sell more CDs to more people, which is why we started doing this in the first place.

*Against Me!* and Fat reunited at last!

It’s not even April Fool’s this time! Yep, you heard right, we are proud to announce that on July 7th, 2009 Fat Wreck Chords will be releasing The Original Cowboy by Against Me!. These predominantly never-before-heard demos were recorded at Goldentone Studio in Gainesville, FL with Rob McGregor on July 15th, 2003. The session was scheduled prior to Against Me!’s trip to Memphis’ Ardent Studios where <a href="http://www.fatwreck.com/record/detail/667"target="_blank">As The Eternal Cowboy was recorded (the band’s first release with Fat). Tom Gabel explains the decision to go to Ardent: “Having already recorded our first full length album and two previous EPs with Rob at Goldentone, we wanted to do something different for our second full length. We specifically wanted to make an all analog recording with as few overdubs as possible which is what we could do at Ardent. With Rob McGregor coming along to produce, we wanted to make sure he was familiar with the songs, so we made this demo recording.”

At the insistence of Fat Mike, the song “Cavalier Eternal” from the 7/15/03 session did end up making it onto <a href="http://www.fatwreck.com/record/detail/667"target="_blank">As The Eternal Cowboy, Mike preferring the demo to the version made at Ardent. Gabel describes the natural ease and success of those July sessions: “Recorded and mixed in only a couple of hours, The Original Cowboy was only meant to be a trial run, but, listening to it today, there’s a part of me that feels foolish for ever recording these songs a second time.”

(Against Me! and Fat…back together again.)

Track Listing:

1. A Brief Yet Triumphant Introduction/Cliche Guevarra
2. Mutiny On The Electronic Bay
3. T.S.R
4. Rice And Bread
5. Cavalier Eternal
6. Unsubstantiated Rumors
7. Slurring The Rhythms
8. You Look Like I Need A Drink/ Turn Those Clapping Hands Into Angry Balled Fists

The Original Cowboy will be available on CD, vinyl LP and iTunes, with a limited color vinyl run available to early bird buyers. Check back soon for more release news, but in the meantime, check out Against Me!’s Fat Wreck Chords release history right <a href="http://www.fatwreck.com/record/?id=2&bandsubmit.x=4&bandsubmit.y=10"target="_blank">here!

We surrendered the last two unreleased songs from the Appeal To Reason sessions; “Grammatizator” and “Voice Of Dissent.” Starting May 5th, you can pre-order your Rise Against seven inch through the Fat Wreck site, and on May 12 it will be available in stores.

The seven inch will be limited to 5000 copies, designed by Richard Minino. The first thousand ordered through the Fat mail-order will be pressed on marble vinyl.”

If you do go to <a href="http://digg.com/music/How_not_to_play_a_gig_in_Indonesia"target="_blank">digg.com and vote for it. If not, there’s always <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gmr0a5t_F8E"target="_blank">Razorlight. These dudes seem to like keyboards, cardigans, and…wait for it (at 2:16)...NOFX.
