Every time I look at the cover of Cokie The Clown I think of the book “IT” by Stephen King. The clown in “IT” is diabolical and pure evil and to this day, I can’t walk by a sewer plate without a nervous glance. Mike’s alter ego, Cokie isn’t evil but as he describes in this new interview with Alternative Press he is mean and likes to have fun squirting white powder from his big plastic flower at unsuspecting targets…Can anyone guess who this bummed out punk rocker is? The video will be ready soon but until then, you will have to settle on buying this package deal where you too can walk around frightening people. If you’re wondering what’s happening with our new album, we managed to buy ourselves some time before turning the thing in, so we’re going to take full advantage and record some more songs before the end of the year to add to the mix. With no solid release date known yet, I can say that it will be out sometime in early 2010. I hope that vague-ish news gets you stoked!

A few words from Chicken on DTM’s recent activities:

Dead To Me has been on tour for the last couple weeks, having a blast playing and partying all over the country. We played THE FEST 8 in Gainesville on Halloween and it was probably the funnest show we’ve ever played. I was playing bass while crowd surfing, Ian was getting bear hugs while trying to play drums and Nathan had to play while being outsung by sweaty girls that kept hogging his microphone. We’re super excited to be playing the songs off our new record “African Elephants” and we cant wait for the record release show in San Francisco with Grant Hart from the mighty Husker Du. Thanks to all the kids who have been coming out to sing along and jump around. Up the punx!

New *LAWRENCE ARMS* MP3!

The Lawrence Arms, celebrated their 10 year anniversary with a hometown show at the Metro in Chicago this past Saturday. The sold out event came with limited edition posters, vinyl and a film crew. The song is titled “DEMONS” and will only be available to those who purchase the EP digitally. Brendan Kelly of TLA has written a very detailed blog about the release which you find in its entirety here but we’ve included a wee part of it below. Enjoy!

Okay, so usually I like Bad Sandwich to be a bit of a respite from punk rock…a place to come read about dick jokes and pussy farts and just kind of escape the mindless claptrap surrounding Taking Back Sunday, Dan Yemin and Justin Sane and Davy Havok and Tom Delonge and all that. Right? Sure. It’s never been about the music here, folks. It’s always been about the felching. That’s our motto, at least.

SO, today is where I break form completely. I’m in a band. Some of you probably know all about this. We’re called the Lawrence Arms, and while we’re not as popular as, say, Eric Clapton, we’re a lot more popular than, say, your band (unless you’re in the Alkaline Trio or Against Me! [and even then you’re still mondo gay]), AND we’re coming out with a record called Buttsweat and Tears on Fat Wreck Chords next week. In the spirit of promoting said release, SPIN.com is putting a free download of one of the songs on the internet. The song is called Demons and I think it’s pretty cool.

We made this the focus track because it’s the bonus song that’s not on the vinyl version and only available on itunes and we figured that we shouldn’t penalize the people who were cool enough to buy the 7” by giving them one less song. Everyone should be able to have the five songs if they want em, right? Right. So yeah. We decided to pass out the bonus track for free because we’re cooler than all other bands. That’s right, other bands, we’re talking about you. Nice haricuts. Sweet matching outfits. Nice sustainable careers. Bleh…

*Fat Wreck Chords* _WRECKTROSPECTIVE_ Out Nov. 24!!

After nearly 20 years of churning out nonstop hit records we figured it was high time to take on the daunting task of putting together a Fat Wreck Chords box set. Why? Well, besides the fact that we love a challenge, we realized that with over 280 releases and a roster that reads like a hall of fame list, it was probably long overdue. So, over the past few months we here at Fat engaged in many long discussions, heated debates, and, ultimately, an office mud wrestling match (which Floyd won, of course), in order to determine a track list that we thought was worthy of representing Fat. And we don’t mind saying that we did a damn good job. The box set is called Wrecktrospective (get it?) and it contains 3 discs. The first disc is a greatest hits of Fat, featuring 33 bands. The second disc features 28 previously unreleased demos. Finally, the third disc is the extremely limited Fat Club 7” series in it’s entirety, previously unavailable on cd. Just to sweeten the pot, there is a fold out poster included and a bevy of entertaining stories provided by the bands. All in all, you’d be crazy not to pick this thing up.

And if 88 songs aren’t enough for you, we will have Short Music For Short People on color vinyl available soon. 101 30 second songs never before on color vinyl.

We are pleased to announce NOFX are set to release Cokie the Clown on November 24th! This EP/7”x2 will be available on cd/vinyl and through ITUNES. Okay, wrap your brains around this release. Its five brand new songs by NOFX released on one CD and split up on two different 7”s. The CD EP is titled Cokie the Clown. The first 7” is also titled Cokie the Clown, go here for details! You may remember Fat Mike and his daughter performing “Straight Outta Massachusetts” for Pancake Mountain which you can watch here! The second 7” is titled My Orphan Year, click here for details. All right, Australia is a pretty cool place. I like it a whole bunch. It’s actually my favorite country/continent/island in the world, but Fuck them and their stupid time zone! Seriously, what the fuck? It takes us 18 hours to fly home (2 of which were in Hawaii cuz the toilets on the plane broke) and when we get back to Cali…….and it’s the same fucking day!

Fuck, like the shite(sp) plane ride wasn’t bad enough, now I gotta stay awake for another 10 hours. No can do. I fall asleep at 10:00 pm. Sounds reasonable? Until I wake up at 12:30 am. Yeah, cuz that’s 5:30 pm Aussie time. This isn’t really enough to bitch about, but fuck, I can’t fall asleep till 8:00 am and that’s with Ambien and whatever-pam. I woke up at 3 in the afternoon yesterday, only cuz I had to get my daughter from school.

So now it’s 6:15 am and I’m writing this many word thing to tell everyone about our new EP, but my brain is dumb now and I don’t write in a making sense manner so much. This is what I got:

Hey, BTWV (Vanessa), not 5 new song EP. 5 songs that were recorded during Coaster but didn’t make the record cuz they were too good! That’s right, they are so good that the stupid president of our record label made us leave them off the record cuz we could, “Make more money with an EP ” says him/he. NOFX think makes not sense, but he’s the guy with the fountain so we do what he says. Dudes crazy anyway. Talks about himself in the third person nonstop.

OK, Gotta go catch a flight to Riot Fest in 3 hours. I’m dressing like a fucking clown all weekend. Big stretch….later, Cokie

On the cusp of kicking off a headlining US tour on October 1st in San Antonio, TX, Strung Out are excited to bring Agents Of The Underground to fans across the country, as well as to fans in Costa Rica and Japan (see all tour dates below). “We are really pumped up about the release of this album and I think all our fans, old and new will be impressed,” says Strung Out drummer Jordan Burns. “We’re looking forward to playing these songs live and getting back into tour mode. It will be our second time playing Costa Rica and of course Japan is going to be amazing as well. Can’t wait!”

Agents Of The Underground was produced by Cameron Webb (Motorhead, Social Distortion, Ignite) and is “the culmination of everything we’ve done,” says vocalist Jason Cruz. Filled with the band’s signature sound which blends the technicality and musicianship of metal with punk’s fury, SPIN says “Agents of the Underground has all the double-time drums and big choruses and devil’s-horns-worthy guitar leads you could ask for from a bunch of fellas who’ve been at this longer than some of their contemporaries have been alive,” while ALTERNATIVE PRESS comments “blazing, guitar harmony-driven tracks like ‘Heart Attack’ sound like Bad Religion covering Iron Maiden, while breakdown-dominated tracks like ‘Dead Spaces’ finally see the band writing music that’s heavy without being heavy-handed.”

What’s going down? We are stoked for everyone to check out our new tune entitled “Don’t Want To Go”. The song is the 2nd track off our new album “They Came From The Shadows”. “Don’t Want To Go” is about not going to certain places to avoid running into an ex-girlfriend or boyfriend. We’ve all been there, right? Check out the tune and we hope you like it.

Hot Dog! The Lawrence Arms have wiped their blurry eyes and have recorded a brand new EP titled Buttsweat and Tears to be released on vinyl and digitally via ITUNES on October 27th. When my band, the Lawrence Arms, first started, we had this idea for a seven inch. We had the title picked out and we even knew what the cover was gonna be. We promised ourselves that our first seven inch would have this name and this cover. Well, we never did a seven inch (except for one that was part of a label series, which meant that the cover and the title were sort of more beholden to the big picture rather than our dumb ideas) and the whole thing kind of languished, and now, ten years later, in conjunction with our ten year anniversary show and subsequent west coast run (the first run in over 2 years), we’ve got our first real seven inch on our hands. And guess what? We fucking named it the name that we thought up ten years ago. That’s right, assholes. When we decided what our first seven inch was gonna be called, ‘a digital release’ sounded like some sort of futuristic way to blow your load using your computer, and yet this fucking record is gonna be released digitally with an extra song. That’s, again, right, asshats. You guys wanna know what it’s called? Do you? It’s called Buttsweat and Tears. Why? Well, for one thing, they’re the two most secreted liquids from the three of us over the last decade, but of course we didn’t know that would be the case when we thought up the title. We just thought it sounded tough, you know?
