Telus Spark collaboration on a wool monster

This weekend I was teaching needle felting to visitors of Telus Spark Science Center. We had a lot of people who would like to learn. I was surprised that some kids knew about needle felting and did a very good job. It was great exposure for me and my business and I think most people can appreciate hand made art now. Every one where making a colourful patch from wool and then team members attached them to the shape of a monster that we made earlier that week. I loved seeing people enjoying felting and if someone left and learned something new about wool I’m extremely happy .

Here are some pictures of our monster, it is not done as I’m making mouth and eyes right now, but it will be finished Monday and you can see him for couple of month in Telus Spark Creative Kids museum :)

It is almost near, weekend with monsters. You can help making big needle felted monster and vote on a eyes and mouth design. You can read more info here

I will teach visitors how to needle felt, it will be big collaboration and I bet it will be fun.

Last year was AWESOME and this one even better. I worked really hard and enjoyed every moment, I made over a thousand monsters last year an non of them where the same.

This year Ill try to be better with my online Etsy Shop and update it more regularly .

This year I got asked by Telus Sparks Science Centre to help them in teaching visitors how to Needle felt , we will be making big monster, so if you are in Calgary on 16-17 of February please come and make a monster with us :)

Mixed animals

Long time

I haven’t had much time to get information on here, just because I was so busy. I’m going back home to Latvia and preparation was taking all my time :) Just for a month but since I haven’t been there 5 years and going to see a lot of people I wanted to take some little presents with me.

National Film Board/Quickdraw Animation Society Production Scholarship.

OMG I’m so happy I got “National Film Board/Quickdraw Animation Society Production Scholarship” What it means? it means I’m a happiest girl in a world. When I was small I loved cartoons and wanted to make them one day, well now my dream will come true. Yes I did 2 animations and it felt great but now I can make my own independent cartoon , and boy I will work hard :) I’m incredibly thankful to Quickdraw to give me this opportunity. This is so big for me to get it.

Also I want to thank my husband , son and my parents who supported me , I love you guys ♥♥♥

I had a very awesome request from my great regular customer Adam. He wanted me to felt character from the movie "Brazil" I never seen it and it looks very weird, but now I want to watch it. So thank you Adam for expanding my world and I had good time felting this interesting character :)

Nesting Dolls #3

Here is the 3 version of Nesting dolls (Matryoshka) It is currently at “Motion Gallery” downtown Calgary, they are for sale . One of a kind I will never try to copy previous dolls. It is not my usual type of art so there won’t be a lot of them. Something really special from my Russian crazy soul to you :)

Nesting Dolls #2

This one is really weird and gory it calls “Hang in there” It is a man who was hung and when you open Matryoshka you take one layer of a body .

1) Is man himself

2) His bones

3) His guts

4) Stomach content

5) The Soul

Really unusual for me to paint something that different but I needed that. Let me know what do you think about those :)

They are one of a kind, and there will not be custom orders on Matryoshkas. I will be making them only when I have free time from my other projects. So keep your eyes open for more :)

P.S there is little secret which will be given to the owner :)

Zombie Matryoshkas (Nesting dolls)

I got some blank Nesting Dolls recently and when I had mood for them I started to paint them. It is harder than it seems but not too bad, it was a lot of fun and thinking :) I’m Russian and Matryoshkas are one of the symbols in Russia and Europe so I thought to play with my imagination and symbolism I came up with this zombies.

They are one of a kind and I will show more later but this one is first :)

Family Portrait

I was just looking at my pictures and saw this picture, for some reason it reminded me of a family picture. Dad, Baby and Mom.

Dad surprised thinking “where am I” and how many cups of coffee did he had in the morning or maybe he is trying to think where did he parked the car. Baby is talking and yelling BBABABLALLAALA. Mom is checking with her tongue if she has a lipstick on her teeth. Ahh good old family pictures :)

And not there is crazy aunts and uncles :)

It was a great week, but I got little sick.

I have a lot of fun custom orders and I’m planning on starting them as soon as I get better, because when I don’t feel right I don’t enjoy what I do, and I want only positive energy surround my Needle Felted Art. But I did had enough energy to post new stuff on Etsy.

Bad Mood Monster

Yesterday I ha da bad mood, there was no reason just one of those day when everything goes opposite was from what you want. So in the end i decided to get rid of them monster by drawing him. NOW I feel so much better :)

Lilac Fest 2012

Today (Sunday) I was part of “Family Oasis” which was part of Lilac Festival, it was a great place witch wasn’t too busy or empty, it was just right. Lots of families where there and everybody enjoyed their time.

I want to thank all my customers. There where few repeat customers whom I really appreciate. I would love to see people sending me pictures of their “Mood Enhancers “ in funny places or poses :).

Also feel free to challenge me with some ideas, maybe a sketch or picture of a funny cloud? I think I will even make it a competition on best challenge and let people vote on best toy after :)

Lock Down Animation Competition

After 48 hours I created a short animation for competition. Yesterday it was shown in Plaza theatre in Kensington and audience was voting . I got 2md place and I’m really happy, it was my first animation competition and it was nice to hear that people liked it.

For longest time I wanted to play with illustrator, and on Mothers day I got it. YAY

So for a week now I was trying to learn something online and I just got soo overwhelmed from excitement that I couldn't think where to start. Yesterday I took a moment and started again.

After some time I realized it is easier for me to colour in Photoshop, but I'm not giving up there is some cool stuff in Illustrator and I can’t wait to try it all.

So here is my little project Blue Kitty (my son helped me with colours, tanks Pashka)

So far this is easy way for me to do stuff, fist is a sketch in Photoshop

Then I made outline in Illustrator

And then full colour in Photoshop. I love smooth lines . AAAAA just too excited. Also I found out how to make some easy animation. So never know what will my next project will look like :)

Animation Lockdown

Last year I had a chance to go a look at animations made by groups of people, who are professional and not so much. I had a blast and I was wishing that one day I may be part of that awesome process.

This year I thought no way I’m ready, but with a great support of my family and friends I did it. I signed up for Animation Lockdown

WOW I’m excited and scared and excited again. I know approximately what I want to do but I’m not good with technical part of this project. But I will have friends helping me and I’m pretty fast student when it comes to learning something I like. So it starts tomorrow and ends on Monday.

More pictures and stories later. Have a great weekend I know I will :)
