I recently heard an interview on the radio with the guys who invented the 3Doodler. Have you seen this thing? Once I heard about it on the radio, I HAD to check it out. It was hard to imagine from a radio interview. This thing is incredible. It’s actually “pen” with which can “draw” 3D elements. It uses plastics and my understanding is that the resulting objects are permanent and stable. It’s quite amazing. It’s not intended to be a toy for kids (it gets VERY hot) but the possibilities for artists and creative people of all types are endless. Talk about 3D art!

The developers have raised enough money through a kickstarter campaign to actually begin production and take the 3Doodler to market. They expect to release it early next year, so stay tuned The future is upon us!

Charles Fazzino is preparing to release a brand new line of 3D pop art sculptures based on punctuation marks. He’s been working on the first one for several months and is finally ready to show it.

“I’m always thinking of new and creative ways to express myself in 3D,” said Fazzino. “Last year, I was in France for a show and spent some time brainstorming new ideas with my French Agent, Olivier Waltman. I thought about the fact that most of my art is retrospective, somewhat nostalgic and inspires people to remember the past….the recent past or the distant past, but the past nevertheless. I thought about creating something that makes people think about the future…make them ponder the ‘what if’s”…hence my new punctuation mark sculptures.”

Fazzino spent several months working with a fabricator to create 6-foot tall punctuation marks….question marks and exclamation points. “I remember when the first ones were delivered. My staff looked at me like i was crazy. They had no idea what i was going to do with them. “ The sculptures are made from fiberglass resin and are placed atop 2-foot tall bases. The first one completed is a question mark….designed to get people wondering about and talking about the future of the world wide financial markets. “Everything is and has been in such a state of flux for so long. People talk about the markets like they are a constant. The reality is that they are always changing. The way the world views money is always changing throughout history. What will money mean to us 100 years from now?”

Fazzino used primarily acrylic paint on the Question Mark and accentuated it with mixed-media elements including genuine coins. His next creation-in-progress is an exclamation point that takes a good look at the issues surrounding global warning. Stay tuned!

Here’s the sculpture through the phases of creation.

We are proud to announce Charles Fazzino’s new association with an organization called CHOICE (Consumers Helping Others In a Caring Environment). CHOICE’s mission statement reads “Provides services – Peer Advocacy, Homeless Outreach, and Care Coordination for people with mental illness and to those who have been unable to access the services and benefits to which they are entitled.” In a nutshell, CHOICE is a grassroots organization dedicated to helping those plagued by mental illness gain the skills and acquire the confidence and support needed to function in the world today. So many of these people are forgotten, shoved under the rug, or just plain ignored…and so many of them have so much to offer!

CHOICE Art Education & Therapy for Mental Illness

CHOICE first came to our attention when a good friend of ours told us about the way in which CHOICE uses art as a therapeutic and socialization tool. They hold weekly art and music groups meant to encourage group members to express themselves and accomplish creative milestones. Their objectives fit perfectly with the “Fazzino Arts Education Initiative,” and we took an immediate interest in what they were doing. Then we had the privilege of meeting their President Guy Fessenden who tells the story of a woman who came to one of these art workshops and drew a flower in a vase. However, the flower’s roots weren’t long enough to reach the water in the vase…the water the plant needed to survive…and thrive. It was a poignant moment and proved to be a turning point for this woman who previously had been unable to express her lack of confidence…her lack of feeling understood…or cared for…or loved. Powerful stuff.

A CHOICE Fundraiser at Charles Fazzino Studios

CHOICE is another perfect example of why we cannot forget about the arts…not in our personal lives and not in our educational programs. That’s why we’ve decided to partner with CHOICE to hold an Art Show Fundraiser for this wonderful organization at Charles Fazzino’s private studios on Thursday, September 26th. The event will consist of a private art show, guided studio tour, and reception. You’ll have the opportunity to view some never-before-seen Fazzino 3D pop art pieces as well as some of the work by the clients of CHOICE. It promises to be an entertaining, educational, and inspiring evening and we hope you’ll consider joining us. If you’re interested in either sponsoring this event or in purchasing tickets, please contact CHOICE at 914-576-0173 or email choicenr@choiceofny.org or visit their website at www.choiceofny.org.
