We're cleaning out the closets this Labor Day weekend here at Feathered Hope and discovered a whole bin of opportunity for our followers! Select from any of the limited quantity prints below to adorn your walls and help us help others at the same time! A portion of this sales proceeds will be donated to a non-profit helping animals (and their humans) effected by Hurricane Harvey.

In return, we’ll email you a PayPal invoice to complete the transaction and ship your order USPS after payment is received. Please note, a single shipping & handling charge of $8 will be added to all domestic orders to cover shipping and packaging regardless of the number of items ordered. International shipping may be subject to additional charges.

According to the calendar we've been enjoying the spring season for over a month now. Evidently someone forgot to tell Old Man Winter. Despite the sudden snow squalls coming in off of Lake Wausau, Lisadawn and I were very fortunate to be able to witness the release of several of Raptor Education Group's latest "former patients" Sunday afternoon.

With a crowd of more than 3,000 people gathered to watch the release of 4 rehabilitated bald eagles, it was a prime opportunity to send people away with more than just memories and photographs, but also some new found knowledge.

Eagle Release–Part I: The Arrival

Lisadawn and I had the good fortune to make the 3 hour trip to Sauk City on Saturday to experience the magic of Bald Eagle Watching Days first hand. Very high on the list of "attractions" was the release of 4 bald eagles that had been rehabilitated by Raptor Education Group.

When we arrived at VFW Park we were just 2 in a sea of people gathered to bear witness to this special event. As luck would have it we arrived at nearly the same time as the guests of honor. I'll admit to feeling a little like paparazzi, but it's not every day that one of the celebrities rolls up to the red carpet covered in feathers! Across the loud speaker came the words, "The Eagle Has Landed".

Marge Gibson soon stepped from the "REGI Mobile" carrying this beautiful adult male bald eagle . There were thousands of people attending this event and all eyes and cameras quickly turned in their direction as they made their way through the crowd.

One of the things that made an incredible impression on us was just how absolutely calm this eagle was in Marge's arms while surrounded by thousands of people packed in elbow to elbow. As Marge pointed out during the event, this is a completely wild bird that has had very little human interaction even during his recovery. Once treated, all of the birds are isolated from Marge and her staff and only observed via remote cameras in order to avoid "imprinting". This is critical in order for them to maintain their "wild independence " once they are released.

2013 Arrives with New Patients for REGI

According to a recent REGI Facebook post, the new year brought with it 5 new patients including this magnificent golden eagle who is suffering from the effects of lead poisoning. In addition to outlining the course of treatment, Marge Gibson also shares the staggering costs associated with trying to remove the toxins to save it’s life and return it to the wild.

Lisadawn and I wanted to take a quick moment to offer our thanks and appreciation for the support our readers have shown in the short time we’ve been up and running. We’re really excited about the coming year and the many opportunities it will bring for us to collectively help raise awareness and financial support to benefit the fine folks at Raptor Education Group and bird kind in general.

We’d also like to extend a special thank you to Cheryl of Cheryl’s Framing and Gallery in downtown Wausau. She openly shared her knowledge to help us get off the ground and then graciously offered to inventory prints from our limited edition “Feathered Hope Series”. If you find yourself downtown be sure to stop in and check out her beautiful store and gallery.

And then there’s our good friend Lori at Wild Birds Unlimited in Rib Mountain. If you’re fortunate enough to know her you’ll undoubtedly agree that the world could use more “Lori’s”. Always ready with a smile and the desire to help those in need, especially those of the feathered variety, Lori has consistently shown her support for REGI as well as other local wildlife causes, including Feathered Hope. If you’ve yet to make her acquaintance, do yourself a favor and stop in her nature store for all of your birding needs.

Last and most certainly not least, we’d like to thank Marge Gibson and her incredible staff at Raptor Education Group, Inc. for the miracles they perform every day on behalf of our wild bird friends. The last time I saw a patient count it was nearing the 550 mark for the YEAR! I wish I could come up with a better word than “heroic”, but its one that seems to fit. The amount she and each of her staff give of themselves to provide these birds a fighting chance is truly remarkable. We sincerely hope that, with your help, we can do our part to provide them the support necessary to allow them to continue to do what they do so well – save birds!

As we head into the holiday weekend, we wish you a wonderful and safe holiday season and look forward to our continued journey together in the new year.

REGI Patient Update
