I remember watching the weather report days before our engagement session and slightly freaking about the possibility of rain. Too bad I couldn't have seen Sarah and Will's fabulously inspirational rainy e-sesh! I absolutely love that they ended up taking cover from the rain inside Sarah's adorable flat in London and had fun jumping on the bed and playing around. If I had it to do over again, J+I would definitely do our engagement session at home {and include our lovable Norwegian Forest cat, too!} ... it creates such a better reflection of who you both are at that stage in your life, don't you think? ;o)

What do you think? Would you do an at-home engagement session?

Couture Bridal Sketches - love this!

How fabulous would it be to have a framed fashion sketch of your wedding dress? I used to watch Isaac Mizrahi's show on the Style channel religiously {did anyone else love that show?! Ugh, I so miss it!} and I love, love, loved when he would do the audience sketches ... I always wondered if they would go home and frame the sketches because I totally would have!

And then, last week, I received a lovely message from Debi Griffin, of Illustrative Moments. Debi is a New York based fashion designer, fashion illustrator, and artist. She has worked at Vera Wang, freelanced with Nanette Lepore, and spent over 10 years at Amsale. And she now applies her experience and exquisite talent to bridal sketches!

She offered to do mine and I thought I'd share the results with you! I am completely smitten! What do you think? You can see images of my actual dress here to compare. ;o)

After being in a full-out lust-trance for an unknown amount of time, I realized the one thing that sucks about tumblr ... there's never any information about the drool-worthy images. After a few minutes on google, I found that this is an Antonio Berardi dress and I quickly found more delicious frocks in the line that I really ~~want~~ need in my wardrobe. stat.

Planning CB's Parisian Shoot: Props + Accessories. FEEDBACK, PLS!

Yesterday I chatted about a trip to Paris for fun {and you shared some great tips, btw! cheers!}. Today, I'm going to talk about a work trip {but a really fun work trip!} to Paris ... :o)

As I shared in a previous post, I am planning a two-part photo shoot in Paris. {!!!} The first part will be a wedding inspiration shoot with a strong 1960s Parisian focus ... I've been having a ball working on wardrobe styling for this segment and thought I'd pop in share what I have so far. I want to share these steps for a few reasons ... I am hoping it will show you guys that doing a styled shoot abroad is absolutely feasible. Annnnnd, I'm really hoping for some intense reader feedback! I have questions galore listed at the bottom of this post and would love to hear my trusted readers' opinions!

Despite the strong 1960s theme, I can't help but throw in a little modern bracelet layering {with a vintage twist}.

The Grecian headband and feather are an attempt to slightly emulate Kirsten Dunst's hair from Marie Antoinette on her wedding day. Too bad I no longer have blonde hair. :o(

I found the miniature trunk/suitcase at a French flea market in Metz. Love it to bits.

I can't express how perfect I feel my Mom's dress is for this part of the shoot! :o) And I love that, in a way, it will become a bit of a family legacy.

The amazing fabric floral bouquet is from Quatre Coeur and the ivory clutch is vintage {found it at an estate sale}.

I'm planning on pinning this vintage Parisian key brooch onto the floral bouquet. I found it at a tiny antique shop in Alabama. :o)

And, just in case of rain, I'll bring along my adorable Felix Rey bumble. :o)

I know I didn't share any of J's ensemble but boys lack the fun accessories and they are so much less fun to photograph and edit so I will just give you a brief write-up. J will be donning a Michael Kors suit with sterling cuff links and a seersucker hat. I'd really like to get him a skinny tie as a nod to the 60s ... what do you think?

?s for my fabulous readers:
-- What color should I paint my nails? I was thinking about doing a bright white matte with a graduated glitter effect.

-- I'm thinking a top knot will help evoke the 1960s vibe I'm going for ... which means I really need to start practicing more to perfect the look. If you have any tips {or links to tips}, pls let me know. ;o)

-- Lip color? I'm really wanting to do a strong red but I'm see myself being pulled to my comfort zone and wearing a nude w/gloss. What do you think I should do?

-- Sunnies. For the second part of the shoot {which, again, is much more modern}, I am dying to get my hands on a pair of heart-shaped sunnies. Red, preferably ... maybe black. Anyone have a favorite place to shop for them?

-- What kind of tie would you put on J? Skinny? Color? Pattern? I am at a loss but thinking about keeping it skinny and simple. I do wish my Dad had kept his amazing silvery sharkskin suit from the wedding - that would be too rad!

Hi loves. I hope you can help me plan an amazing little return trip to Paris! J and I are planning a belated 10-year-anniversary getaway in late February since we couldn't be together on our real anni back in October {sniff, sniff}. But I think some time in our favorite city will make up for it!

I would be delighted to hear any tips and suggestions for some obscure places + scenes to visit in Paris. I've been to the City of Light a handful of times so we've knocked out most of the 'big things' several times over and I'm ready to discover some lesser known sights and sounds.

I do have a few things lined up on a loose itinerary for us but I'd love to add some more awesomeness to the list with your help! Here's what I have so far but please chirp in with your own ideas and suggestions:

- La Maison Deyrolle. 46 rue du Bac. Paris VIIe.
This menagerie of curiosities and taxidermy at its finest has been on my dreamlist for ages ...
- Musee d'Orsay. 62, rue de Lille.
Okay, not so obscure but we still haven't made it here and it's really a must-do, non?
- Original house of Chanel. 31 rue Cambo.
Just to marvel. Inspired by this Travel + Leisure write-up about tracing the steps of Coco.
- Ladurée. again. I've been to the original on rue Royale and the one on Champs-Elysées and the teensy one inside Versailles. Now I need to visit the one at 21 rue Bonaparte. ;o)
- Port de Vanves flea market. I did St. Ouen last spring and have to say I was sadly underwhelmed. I'm hoping the environment and energy will be a little different at Vanves. If you've been, tell me your thoughts.

My ?s for the Parisian experts out there:
- We'll be traveling from Germany by train. Any preferred Paris arrival stations?
- J wants to buy me a piece of vintage jewelry in Paris and I'm kinda really really loving his sweet idea. Any store recs?
- Moulin Rouge. Should we bother or is it just gauche?
- Any hotel or b&b recs? We have a few on our list but I always love staying somewhere new. Looking for quaint, not OTT but with a good location. Interested in Montmartre area, too.
- We've climbed the steps of Sacre Coeur and marveled at the city from the Eifel Tower - what is your favorite high spot{s} in town to take in the city?
- I've heard about a little tiny museum devoted to Marie Antionette where you actually visit the cell she spent her last night. I have to find out more! Do you know about this?
- Seeing the Nutcracker in December in Paris is on my bucket list. Anyone know the details on this? I need to start planning for next year. ;o)

Valentine's Day has always been one of my favorites. I mean, really, how can you not love a day that is all about love?! Plus the reds and pinks and hearts and glitter win my heart over instantly.

I'll be in Amsterdam this year on Vday with J and a wonderful college friend of both of ours so while we'll be busy sightseeing, I thought it would be fun to surprise J with at least a little card that tells him how much he's loved. :o)

Side note! I've been working with Anna McClure, of Jack's Master Custom Invitations & Cards, on a new site design for CB {you can sneak a peek at some of the new design already but it's not fully rolled out just yet} this year and I absolutely adore her aesthetic and sense of whimsy and humor. She has a kind heart, as well - a portion of her annual proceeds are donated to animal rescue organizations. Isn't that the best?

I suppose the blog title says it all but let me explain a teensy bit. I hate to knock something in its entirety so yes, if your candy bar was designed and brought to life by Amy Atlas and the ganache in your imported macarons from Paris match the sashes on your bridesmaids dresses, ... okay ... fine, your candy bar is probably totally fabulous in its own desperate way ..... But. Most candy bars I've seen in real life and on the webs, ... well, they look more like they were designed for a second-grade Valentine's Day party. You know what I'm talking about ... the M&Ms sorted by color and scooped into clear vases ... twizzlers {sometimes still in the wrappers - really?!?} plopped inside another clear vase ... etc. etc. When images of this sort start to become ubiquitous, I find it clear that a trend has run its course. Are you with me?

So I'm saying farewell to the now-ick candy bar and giving the drink bar a warm + welcome hello!

I'm really loving the minimalistic approach of this Martini Bar via Sunday Suppers. You don't always need ribbons and bows and color-coordinated ingredients ... jus' sayin. This looks fresh, clean and inviting.

The understated labels are fun yet simple. I. heart. ... and am ready for a 'tini!

If you're dying to turn up the decor quotient a tad, how about this cocktail bar via Southern Living {below}? I love the 'W' monogram made of mums. And the lemons and limes add some vibrant color.

I know if I were heading to a wedding and spotted a bar like one of the two shown above, I'd be beelining. And if it were a Bloody Mary bar, sorry, you'd be left in the dust. :o)

CB At Home: Accessory shrines

Hey loves, I hope you enjoyed the weekend. Mine was fabulously lazy with one early morning flea market thrown in. I woke up before the sun rose {not too common for this girl} on Sunday and traveled with some friends back to Tongeren, Belgium, {Did you miss my other European antiquing posts? Click here to catch up.} and I thought I'd share my favorite little jewel I toted home with me:

Yes! It's my first full-body dress form and I was told it is over 100 years old. It's marked 'PARIS Made in France' and I've already been imagining dreamy back stories for it. Some of my friends were a little creeped out by it but after I added a few sparkly numbers and tucked a pair of RayBan aviators on the 'shirt collar', I think she {or is it a he ... can't really tell but does it really matter? ... } is looking pretty chic next to my accessories table.

With my new addition, I felt inspired to spruce up my vanity. I did a little googling and found the holy grail of 'accessory shrine' inspiration here. I grabbed a few milk glass compotes out of the guest room {left over from our wedding 3 years ago} and started organizing. Here's a little glimpse:

I found the little gold + glass jewelry box at the Braderie de Lille in France last September.

The little glass bottles I picked up at a tiny flea market in France last summer. The vendor explained that he found them while on a World War II exploratory dig in the nearby area. My friend bought a grenade he had found on the same dig. The milkglass compote is from my wedding. :o)

What does your vanity look like? Is it skillfully arranged with fun mementos or a crazy mish-mash of your favorites? I'd love to see some photos!

ps. Dress forms can be fabulous wedding accessories, too. ;o)

I love receiving styled shoots and finding out all the inside details. Photographer Mary Collier, from Washington state, sent in this lovely shoot and explained:

Late last summer I teamed up with a local antique/re-purposed store from Wenatchee, WA to create Whim Weddings. Truly a mix of old and new. We wanted the look to be vintage as far as the scene and the details but keep the bride and groom looking modern and fresh. This shoot was set in a cherry orchard just outside of town and shot close to sunset.

Napa Valley wedding with full-on charm!

Loving this super sweet Napa Valley wedding today! And, no, you're not seeing double - the bride has a twin sister - how fun! Scroll down for all the eye candy and details!

Thanks to photographer Laura Monfredini for submitting this lovely wedding along with the following write-up:

Stacey & Glenn chose to say their "I-do's" in the Napa Valley even though they're from New Jersey because it was where they first said "I love you" & "I love you, too." The couple met online & immediately connected. A few months after they met, Stacey's identical twin sister, Suzanne, invited the new couple out to San Francisco where she lives for a visit. Stacey & Glenn headed up to Napa & on a sun-soaked afternoon (after a couple of glasses of wine), Stacey worked up the nerve to tell Glenn that she was in love with him (how cute she said it first!). Luckily, (she says) he quickly responded that he was in love with her too. A year later, almost to the day, Glenn proposed. They decided immediately on a small, intimate, destination wedding in Napa & Suzanne helped orchestrate the cross-country affair. The day was perfect -- it was warm but not too hot, the ceremony took place at the Avia Hotel, in the charming revitalized downtown Napa, and the reception was in the backyard at a private estate, set in the vineyards a few miles up the road.

Happy New Year + Charm Bracelets: The new must-do for honeymoon travel

Oh, how I've missed you, my loves! I ended up booking a last-minute flight home for the holidays and enjoyed several wonderful weeks with the family before returning home to Europe and suffering a serious case of jet lag {why are the flights to Europe always so brutal?!}. But I'm back now and have so much to share with you! And a belated cheers to a happy and healthy new year in 2012! It's going to be a good one - I just feel it!

On the flight home, I was watching a movie {Monte Carlo if you must know ... and yes, I'm slightly embarrassed to admit that} and I couldn't take my eye away from Leighton Meester's fabulous charm bracelet! It reminded me of the gorgeous one my mother gave me years ago and as soon as I arrived home, I pulled it out and have been wearing it ever since. But it also got me thinking about another piece of jewelry of mine that was about to hit the attic storage ... you probably have one, too!

Just like almost every college girl 10 years ago, I happily succumbed to the Tiffany silver craze ... I still have the treasure trove of little blue boxes holding sterling bracelets, rings and necklaces {that are sadly collecting dust now} to prove it. Yet for some reason, I continued wearing my round-tag Tiffany bracelet ... but over the past two years, I've begun to feel like it was starting to look dated and rather stale. Enter my re-found love of the charm bracelet! I'm toying with the idea of collecting and adding charms from our European vacays to the links. I also like the idea of wrapping my old Tiffany tag necklace around my wrist to create a double-decker charm bracelet. What do you think???
