This workshop is designed for all makes and models of DSLR, mirrorless compact system and bridge cameras (also known as superzoom) with the facility to set Aperture Priority, with small, friendly groups (a maximum of 10 students).

You’ll create your own help sheet that you can refer to instead of the camera’s manual.

• Learn to take control of your camera for predictable results every time
• Find the fastest way to access your camera’s features
• Learn how to take control of what’s in focus in your images
• Find out how to set the right depth of field, from blurred backgrounds to detailed landscape shots, by choosing the appropriate Aperture
• Put it all into practice by taking some close-up, portrait & landscape shots
• Review and discuss your images as a group
• Detailed handouts and exercises that you can use later to perfect your skills

You will be shown the effect of soft boxes, umbrellas, snoots, and beauty dish how to use reflectors. How to use both soft and hard lighting to change the mood and effect of a portrait. Learn what a main lights function is; and how to use fill lights, back lights and hair lights and be shown how they affect the final image.

How Should I Prepare for the Session

Just as you wouldn’t tell a hairdresser to cut your hair, you’d have a few ideas yourself, so it’s fine to brief me as much as you like, if their are any particular roles you are cast for tell me.

So, when we agree a headshot sesson time, I send you aWelcome Email with my advice on preparing for and making the most the session.

That encourages you to think about the sorts of castings you get and want, and to make clear choices about hair, makeup and clothing that will really help you get the range of headshots to create a dynamic portfolio fit for the modern casting environment.

Of course you can rely on me to do my job (“Spotlight Recently Recommended My Services”), but the more prepared the better!
