A daguerreotype camera designed by Frenchman Susse Freres that dates back to 1839 sold at the WestLicht Auction in 2007 for €576,000 ($775,000). It was believed to be the oldest commercially manufactured camera in the world, reported the Most Expensive Journal. Another daguerreotype camera will be auctioned in May and is expected to fetch up to $950,000.

It's been a long time coming, but Nikon has finally unveiled its new midrange model, the D7000, in one of the most eagerly anticipated announcements of the year. The D7000 doesn't replace the D90; it's launching at a higher price than the D90 did, and the D90 is still widely available. Instead, the D7000 takes on the Canon 60D in the price class up from the D90, with a host of improvements that portend well for the new camera.

What's new? Lots. The D7000 incorporates a new Nikon-designed 16.2-megapixel sensor coupled with its Expeed 2 processor; with this pairing Nikon ups its analog-to-digital conversion to 14-bit processing, which has the potential to produce a noticeably better dynamic range. There's also a new (presumably better) metering sensor, more sophisticated autofocus system that falls somewhere between the D90 and D300s in sensitivity, and a viewfinder with 100 percent scene coverage.

It's also Nikon's first dSLR to rise to 1080p HD video, with the added bonus (for whatever it's worth) of full-time autofocus during video capture. And the body's construction, though not quite as tanklike as the D300s, incorporates an all-metal chassis with magnesium-alloy covers (the rest is polycarbonate), and is sealed against dust and moisture like the D300s.

There are also some changes from the traditional Nikon body design that I think are great. The D7000 has custom settings available via the mode dial (rather than just through a powerful but confusing menu interface) and a dedicated movie record button. It also provides two card slots in a category that generally only offers one, and uses a new battery grip that supports AA batteries.

Here's where it sits in the product line and the competitive field:

Exceptional image quality
The D7000 includes a range of new features to ensure superior image quality including 16.2 effective megapixels with the newly developed Nikon DX format CMOS image sensor. The camera boasts a new image-processing engine, EXPEED 2, which delivers higher image quality, higher speed processing and multiple functions with more power. And the D7000’s increased ISO sensitivity (100-6400, extendable up to 25600) ensures exceptional detail with minimal noise when capturing fast moving subjects or in poor light situations, even without the flash.
Outstanding reliability
The D7000’s bright Glass Pentaprism Viewfinder with approximate 100% frame coverage and 0.94x magnification gives you the most precise view and focus of any scene, and it is always ready when you are with a shutter speed of 1/8000s, tested to 150,000 cycles. What is more, the camera is protected by magnesium alloy top and rear covers and has durable sealing against dust and moisture so it is prepared for even the most testing of situations.
When it comes to storage, the D7000 again provides you with maximum reliability. The twin SD memory card slots allow for added storage capacity and give you the freedom to manage your images and video in the way you want to either by saving more of them, keeping different formats separate or always having backup space when you need it.
Enhanced performance
The D7000’s newly developed AF system featuring 39 focus points, including 9 cross-type sensors in the centre, gives you the sharpest focus, no matter where your subject is in the frame. And with Nikon’s new 2,016 pixel RGB metering sensor to enhance the effectiveness of the Scene Recognition System, plus High Speed Continuous shooting capability at 6FPS, you can be sure to capture incredibly accurate, high-quality images every time.
Full-HD D-Movie with AF-F mode
The D7000 has direct access to a movie record button so you can capture footage in full HD (1080p) with greater ease. The AF-F gives continuous focus during movie recording, which is captured using MPEG4 AVC/H.264 compression, and has a stereo microphone jack for quality sound recording. This means superior image quality and operability when using the D-Movie function.
The D7000s built-in movie editing functions also give you the freedom to chose the start and end points of your footage and switch to selected frames for capturing still images without relying on a computer – letting you edit and share your films quickly and easily.
Optional accessories

SAN DIEGO, June 13, 2010 Following the 25th anniversary of its industry-leading Handycam product line, Sony today announced the innovative NEX-VG10 Interchangeable Lens HD Camcorder.

The new NEX-VG10 is the world's first consumer camcorder with interchangeable lenses and the first Handycam camcorder to feature an extra-large ExmorTM APS HD CMOS sensor.

Getting the correct exposure
The proper combination of aperture and shutter speed is what you need to get the correct exposure. If you see a red plus or minus sign, it means you have to adjust the aperture or shutter speed.

   TIPS
Here are three tips to measure the exposure correctly:
1. Look for something middle toned in the subject area to meter and use that suggested setting, making sure once again that it is also in the same light as your subject.
2. Meter off the palm of your hand, making sure that it too is in the same light as your subject. Then, open up one stop (your palm is one stop lighter than a gray card so you have to add light to make your exposure correct).
3. Or meter off a gray card in the same light as your subject. Gray card is simply a piece of paper with 18% grey tint.

What do you do if your gray card or hand cannot be held in the same light as your subject (maybe you are under a shade tree)? Well, you could take a spot meter reading metering off your subject without the meter being influenced by other areas of light. Then recompose and shoot.

Understanding ISO and film sensitivity
The first step in getting good results is to set your camera for the correct speed of the film you are using. The film ISO speed is a number that indicates the relative sensitivity of the film to light. The higher the number, the more sensitive or "faster" the film; the lower the number, the less sensitive or "slower" the film. For example, a film with a speed of ISO 200 is twice as light-sensitive or fast as a film with a speed of ISO 100. Similarly, and ISO 200 film is only half as fast as a film with a speed of ISO 400. Your film carton (and the film cartridge) will tell you the speed of your film.

Remember to set your ISO correctly!
In order to set your camera to measure the light correctly, you need to set the ISO dial to match the sensitivity of the film you're using. In order to do that you need to pull the dial next to the shutter release button and adjust it so it displays the correct value.

Tips on taking sharp photographs
Vivitar V3800N features a focusing device called a "rangefinder". The circular area at the center of the viewfinder gives an indication that the scene is either out of focus or in focus. If the subject is out of focus, you will see that the image is "broken" as if you were looking through a cracked glass, along the thin diagonal line which you can find in the very centre of the viewfinder. If your subject is in focus the two "halves" of the image will be aligned seamlessly.

Use a tripod
If you are taking a photograph at night or in dim light, the most reliable way to make sure your photographs are sharp is to use a tripod. Place your tripod on hard surface and if it's a light tripod you can use a weight to make it more sturdy. Some tripods have a hook at the bottom of the central column where you can hang a bag to add weight to the tripod. You can use a standard remote release cord with Vivitar V3800N, you need to attach it to the shutter button, there is a thread inside the button.

Shutter speed
There is a general rule of thumb - if you are using a 50mm lens then your shutter speed should be 1/50s or less to avoid blurred images. If you're using 100mm lens, it is 1/100s. So, 1 second divided by your focal length gives you a rough idea of the shutter speed required. If your subject is in fast motion (like a car or an animal) you need to make sure your shutter speed is as low as possible, around 1/1000s or less. You can use this shutter speed only on a sunny day or use a high speed film.

Loading and handling the film
Loading the film
If you already have film in the camera, use the dial on the left to roll it back into the cartridge. Pull out the metal lever and turn it in the direction indicated by the arrow until you can feel the film turning loose inside the cartridge. Pull the dial towards you to open the back cover. Once the back cover is open, in order to load a new film, you need to insert the film cartridge at a slant with the flat end facing up and the bottom end entering the camera first. Make sure the film is correctly aligned and stretched slightly and the film perforations are engaged with the sprockets, close the back cover until it clicks shut.

Handling film:
1. If the film rewind lever is stuck and you can't rewind the film, it means it's stretched across the shutter and prepared for another exposure. You need to press a small black button on the bottom of the camera to release the film.
2. Store your film in your fridge and never leave your film in direct sunlight.
3. When you are loading the film make sure you don't touch the shutter curtain inside the camera.
4. Ask if your film is safe while crossing any security checkpoints equipped with X-ray machines.
5. Always store your film in the lightproof container provided.
6. And always remember to rewind the film before you open the back cover!

Advanced tips
You don't have to rely on the light meter only. Here are some tips.
For example, the suggested exposure for KODACHROME ISO 64 Film is 1/60 at f/16 or an equivalent shutter-aperture combination. This simple daylight exposure guideline works because it is based on the relatively constant light from the sun plus the sky on sunny days. Sometimes called the "f/16" rule, the exposure for a frontlighted, average subject in bright sun (distinct shadows) is f/16 at a shutter speed that matches the film speed. You should decrease exposure by one stop for bright sun on light snow or sand, and increase exposure by one stop for an average subject in weak or hazy sun (soft shadows). There is an additional stop increase for cloudy bright conditions (no shadows), and another for heavy overcast or open shade. Increase exposure by one stop (either a slower shutter step or larger lens opening) from the normal for sidelighting, and two stops for backlighting.

Depth of field
The larger the aperture the smaller the depth of field. If you're shooting a portrait and you want the background to be blurred, you can use large aperture, for example f2.8. If you're shooting a landscape and you want sharp objects in the foreground as well as in the background, set your aperture to f22. The aperture stays fully open until you press the shutter button so you can only see the effect of the large aperture, but you can also preview the depth of field with your Vivitar V3800N by pressing a button just under the lens on the right hand side.

On camera models without an electronic interface, the aperture is manually set on the lens aperture ring. Medium Format digital capture advantage

In digital photography, the advantages of large format cameras

have become even more obvious. The 6×4.5 cm window allows the

H4D-60 to use the largest image sensors currently available in digital

photography. Consequently the sensor holds more pixels, which

deliver the highest possible image quality in terms of moiré-free

color rendering without gradation break-ups on even the finest lit

surfaces.

An impressive lens line outperforming the Carl Zeiss lenses

The highly renowned HC/HCD lens line includes 11 auto-focus

lenses, all with central lens shutters. Range is from 28mm to

300mm, 35-90 mm zoom, 50-110mm zoom, and 1.7X converter.

The HTS 1.5 tilt/shift adapter delivers an easy to use, portable tilt/

shift solution for 5 HC/HCD lenses ranging from 28mm to 100mm.

The central lens shutter, with flash sync speed up to 1/800s, also

improves image quality by reducing camera vibration.

The CF lens adapter allows use of the classic CF-lenses from the

Hasselblad V-camera, with full use of their central lens shutters,

allowing flash to be employed at shutter speeds up to 1/500s.

And thanks to the large format of the H System cameras, there is a

considerably shallower depth of field range, making it much easier

to utilize selective focus to creative effect.

A choice of bright viewfinders

One of the important traditional advantages of the medium format is

the extra-large and bright viewfinder image, enabling extremely precise

compositions and easy operation in dim lighting. The H4D-60

comes with the HV 90x-II viewfinder designed for full performance

over the large sensor. Hasselblad has added an interchangeable

waist-level viewfinder, the HVM, for the entire range of H system

cameras. The bright and large viewfinder image is ideal for creative

composing and the photographer is able to shoot in the fashion that

suits them most; maintaining eye contact with the model, or gaining

impact by shooting from a point lower than eye-level, for example.

True Focus and Absolute Position Lock

True Focus helps solve one of the most lingering challenges that

faces serious photographers today: true, accurate focusing throughout

the image field. Without multi-point auto-focus a typical autofocus

camera can only correctly measure focus on a subject that is

in the center of the image. When a photographer wants to focus on

a subject outside the center area, they have firstly aim the camera

at the subject to lock focus and then re-compose the image. At

close focusing distances especially, this re-composing causes a

focus error, as the plane of sharpness follows the movement of the

camera, perpendicular to the axis of the lens.

The traditional solution for most DSLRs has been to equip the

camera with a multi-point AF sensor. These sensors allow the photographer

to fix an off-center focus point on an off-center subject, which

is then focused correctly. Due to the physics of an SLR-camera, the

off-center focus points that are offered are all clustered relatively

close to the center of the image. This means that the photographer

still has to frame the subject more or less centrally, focus and then

reframe again. And perhaps more importantly, the problem is still

not completely resolved because the incorrect distance setting

remains after reframing, thereby causing focusing errors. In addition,

focusing points must firstly be manually selected and then

reselected if the camera is turned. This takes precious seconds, is

distracting to workflow and is prone to error.

To overcome this problem, Hasselblad has used modern yaw rate

sensor technology to measure angular velocity in an innovative

way. The result is the new Absolute Position Lock (APL) processor,

which forms the foundation of Hasselblad’s True Focus feature.

The APL processor accurately logs camera movement during any

re-composing, then uses these exact measurements to calculate

the necessary focus adjustment, and issues the proper commands

to the lens’s focus motor so it can compensate. The APL processor

computes the advanced positional algorithms and carries out the

required focus corrections at such rapid speed that no shutter lag

occurs. The H4D’s firmware then further perfects the focus using

the precise data retrieval system found on all HC/HCD lenses.

Digital Lens Correction and Ultra-Focus for image perfection

The H4D-60 camera allows information from the lens and exact

capture conditions to be fed to the camera processor for ultrafine-

tuning of the auto-focus mechanism, taking into account the

design specifications of the lens and the optical specifications of

the sensor. In this way the full HC lens program is even further

enhanced, bringing a new level of sharpness and resolution. Digital

correction for color aberration and distortion is also added. Digital

Lens Correction (DAC), is an APO-chromatic correction of the images

based on a combination of the various parameters concerning each

specific lens for each specific shot, ensuring that each image represents

the best that your equipment can produce.

Phocus software driving down the learning curve

Phocus provides an advanced software toolbox that has been especially

designed to easily achieve optimum workflow and absolute

image perfection from Hasselblad raw image files.

With the H4D-60 camera system Phocus provides:

• Uncompromising image quality

• Special extended camera controls with which to operate your

H4D-60 camera. These features, such as live video for easier

shot set-up and workflow, or the ability to control the lens drive

for focusing when the camera is in a remote position or when the

digital capture unit is mounted on a view camera, bring an entirely

new level of flexibility to the way you shoot.

• Moiré Removal Technology automatically applied directly on the

raw data, leaving image quality intact and eliminating the need to

carry out special masking selections or other manual procedures,

retrieval much easier.

quality that matches every detail of what you will see later in Photoshop.

layout and composition to suit your current or desired workflow,

Hasselblad’s unique natural colors

Hasselblad’s Natural Color Solution (HNCS) enables you to produce

outstanding and reliable out-of-the-box colors, with skin tones,

specific product colors and other difficult tones reproduced easily

and effectively. In order to incorporate our unique HNCS and DACfeatures

we have developed a custom Hasselblad raw file format

called 3F RAW (3FR). This file format includes lossless image

compression,which reduces the file size by 33%. The 3FR files can

be opened directly in Apple or Adobe imaging environments. In order

to utilize DAC and optimize the colors of the DNG file format, conversion

from 3FR must take place through Phocus.

Accessories including GPS Recording Flexibility

Hasselblad’s Global Image Locator (GIL) is an accessory for use

with any Hasselblad H-System digital capture product. With the GIL

device, all images captured outside are tagged with GPS coordinates,

time and altitude. This data provides the key to a number

of future applications involving image archiving and retrieval.

Instant Approval Architecture

Building on the success of its Audio Exposure Feedback technology,

Hasselblad has created Instant Approval Architecture (IAA),

an enhanced set of feedback tools, designed to enable the photographer

to focus on the shoot rather than the selection process.

IA triggers audible and visual signals for each image captured,

notifying the photographer immediately of its classification status.

The information is recorded both in the file and in the file name,

providing a quick and easy way to classify and select images, in

the field or back at the studio. IAA is a Hasselblad trademark and

Options for working with tilt/shift

Two basic options are available for tilt/shift work with H4D-60.

A simple, portable adapter solution and the classic view camera

solution.

The HTS tilt/shift adapter for H4D-60 allows for portable tilt/shift

with the HC/HCD lens range from 28mm to 100mm. Please refer to

the separate datasheet on this product for details.

To further increase usability, the H4D-60 has been designed to allow

the digital capture unit to be detached and used on a view camera

by way of an adapter. Please refer to page 7 for details.

The new Toyo VX23D has been developed from the ground up to meet the needs of today’s discriminating digital photographer. From the fully geared movements to the finely calibrated scales, the smooth operation of the Toyo VX23D enhances the performance of the highest quality digital backs.
Compatible with all current digital backs, the camera is available with either a Graflok adapter for use with backs featuring Live Video (such as Leaf) or a sliding adapter for those digital backs that do not. The Graflok adapter allows a digital back to be securely attached to the Toyo VX23D just as if it were being attached to a roll film camera; the sliding adapter offers two positions: one for focus and one for recording the image. Simply make your camera movements in the focus position and slide the back into the capture position to take the shot.
The Toyo VX23D works with all view camera lenses, as well as those designed for higher resolution of digital backs. Standard lens boards will be available #0 & #1 shutters. There are also future plans for additional lens boards to support Hasselblad and Mamiya lenses.

Features

The Toyo 23D is a full featured view camera offering all the advantages for perspective control and focus you have come to expect, in a reduced compact size with all controls and movements optimized for the digital photographer. In addition to the physical size of the camera, the geared movements have also been scaled for optimum control.

Stability

The 2x3 format maximizes stability of the camera by keeping the digital back close to the center of gravity. The reduced size of the rear standard allows the weight of the back to be as close as possible to the most stable part of any view camera, the rail. Even with the lighter weight backs of today as compared to years ago, the digital component of the complete system still weighs significantly more than the film holder traditional view cameras were designed to handle.

Geared Movements

Most view cameras offer little geared control. Movements are set and locked using friction. The cameras that are geared, are considerable more expensive than their counterparts, costing several times more. The Toyo 23D offers the best of both worlds as rise/fall, tilt and focus are fully geared ensuring the movements are set accurately. What’s more, the gears are also calibrated to the reduced movements photographers use when working with digital cameras.

Compatibility with All Digital Backs

Through the use of Toyo’s own graflok mounting adapters, photographers can use any digital back they wish. Unlike other brands, the standard fitting, and range of mounting solutions allow photographers to use multiple backs brands, models and mounts all on the same camera without the need to switch bodies or remount expensive lenses. The fixed mount adapters provide full functionality for all digital backs with Live Video focusing. The sliding adapters allow all digital backs to be set to one position for focusing and composition and then the back can be slid into place for the exposure.

Compatible with All Lenses

Although the newer lenses designed especially for the small pixels of digital backs provide the highest image quality possible, there are tens of thousands of older lenses designed for film photography in the field. Whether for budget reasons or for special purpose photography, many photographers are still using these older lenses. The Toyo 23D lets the photographer select the lenses they want to use and is compatible with all copal #0 or #1 mounted lenses or lenses mounted in the Rollei electronic shutter.
When using the Rollei electronic shutter system, exposures are electronically controlled to provide the ultimate in accuracy and consistency, with all controls operated from the computer. In addition to firing the shutter, the f/stop and shutter speed can also be computer controlled; this allows the most efficient method of making corrections since the exposure is already evaluated by the photographer at the computer.

USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive)
Tamron’s USD works with the high-frequency ultrasonic vibrations that are produced by a ring called a ‘stator’. Energy from the vibrations is used to rotate an attached metallic ring known as the ‘rotor’. Piezoelectric ceramic, an element that produces ultrasonic vibrations when voltage of a specific frequency is applied is arranged in a ring formation on the stator. This electrode configuration of piezoelectric ceramic causes two ultrasonic vibrations to occur in the stator.

By effectively combining these two ultrasonic vibrations, it is possible to convert the energy from the vibrations that produced simple motion into energy known as ‘deflective traveling waves’, which then moves around the circumference (rotation direction) of the ring.

With the USD, the friction between these deflective traveling waves created on the metallic surface of the stator and the surface of the rotor produce force, causing the rotor to rotate. The focusing ring lens, which is linked to the rotor, is thus moved, creating a fast and smooth auto-focus drive.

The SP 70-300mm F4-5.6 Di VC USD employs Tamron’s esteemed image stabilization mechanism–VC (Vibration Compensation) seen in both the AF18-270mm Di II VC (Model B003) and SP AF17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di II VC (Model B005). With VC, the photographer has the freedom to shoot at a shutter speed that is an extra four stops slower without having to worry about blurring. This makes capturing handheld, evening, night, and interior shots much easier.

VC (Vibration Compensation)
Tamron’s VC mechanism employs a three-coil system, whereby three driving coils activate the shake-compensating VC lens group electromagnetically via three steel balls. The VC lens elements are held in place only by contact with the steel balls, achieving smooth movement with little friction. This provides a stable viewfinder image with excellent tracking performance that eliminates the blur from camera shake for cleaner, crisper shots.

Full time manual focus at your fingertips
Auto-focus has many benefits but sometimes the photographer needs the control of manual focus. Full time manual offers just that: the crossover from auto-focus to manual focus by simply adjusting the focus ring, allowing the photographer to make adjustments on the fly. This feature helps the lens produce impressive results even in telephoto situations where the depth of field is narrow.

Better balance and consistent length with internal focusing
When focusing, the internal elements of the lens move and the lens’ external size does not change. This offers better balance and easier telephoto shots. Moreover, the barrel is not subject to stray light entering from external helicoids that can negatively affect images. And because the external elements do not move, it makes it easier to utilize polarizing filters and the flower shape hood to control the amount of light that enters the lens.

With a full-frame digital or 35mm SLR, portrait and medium telephoto shots can be achieved on the wider 70mm end of the range and spectacular telephoto shots at the longer 300mm side. Sinar m with Autofocus

Concentrate on your subject and leave everything else to the Sinar m and its Sinaron Digital AF Mirror Module. Its autofocus system works with absolute reliability – with the precision of a Swiss clock. What’s more, its speed should thoroughly impress every professional user, because it is among the very fastest of its class. In cooperation with the rm of Carl Zeiss, the lenses for the autofocus configuration of the Sinar m camera were specially designed to meet the highest demands of digital photography. This means, among other criteria, high resolving power and the very best contrast rendition all the way to the edges of the image circle. It is not only with regard to optical quality that we have charted new paths with Sinaron Digital AF lenses, but also with their operation: The focus can also be adjusted manually at any time by means of a focusing ring on the lens that reacts intelligently. When that ring is turned slowly, it activates the finest focusing steps, when the ring is turned quickly, it produces greater focusing steps. A precise exposure metering system was also developed for this system. It has several metering modes and automatic exposure features, as well as TTL flash control. They make it possible to evaluate light conditions very accurately in any situation, so that a correctly exposed photograph is assured. The Sinar m Medium Format Mirror Module also allows the use of a large variety of Hasselblad V series lenses. In this case, focusing and setting the aperture is performed manually, although the exposure- and focusing systems of the mirror module can also be used in a supporting manner.

Break Loose!

In this configuration, which is also ideally suitable for mobile applications, the optional Sinar m PowerGrip can be attached to the bottom of the Sinar m by means of a rapid fastening screw. The rechargeable batteries housed in this PowerGrip provide ample energy so that longer shooting sessions can be performed comfortably without external power supplies. A built-in additional lockable release button also makes it possible to work ergonomically also in portrait format.

The functions of the camera can be controlled from the Sinar m and also via the Sinar CaptureShop™ exposure software. The proven Sinaron Digital Lenses, built into the Sinar Electronic Aperture Control (CAB) mounts, can also be controlled by means of the operating elements of the Sinar m as well as via the exposure software. This represents a significant advantage for the user, especially with an elevated camera position, as in reproduction applications. With shutter speeds up to 1/2000 second, the Sinar m is the fastest view camera shutter altogether. Everything Under Your Control

Regardless of whether you happen to be positioned at your computer or at the camera, you always have your system under complete control. Every setting that you can make on the Sinar m can also be made by means of the Sinar CaptureShop™ exposure software (requires version 5.2 or higher). The camera system can thus be controlled entirely from the computer and CaptureShop reacts to virtually every input on the camera. Setting changes are synchronized between the computer and the camera, so that accidental operation is impossible. The construction of the lens is based on 10 elements placed in 7 optical groups.
Thanks to using the aspherical hybrid lens and the newest generation multilayer anti – reflection coutings, the optical parameters are maintained on the highest possible level.
The aperture consists of six diaphragms and can be close to f/22. A built-in lens hood was also used here. The lens offers a 180 degrees field of view for APS-C cameras.

A small closing causes that the images from Samyang are much sharper. The differences between Sigma and Samyang are minimal. What we can see on the edge of the frame is astonishing. The SD15 is the latest model in Sigma’s SD series, which previously consisted of the SD9, SD10, and now includes the SD14. The DSLR has been developed to produce superior image quality with improved processing speed, operation and performance, and its 14-megapixel Foveon X3 direct image sensor can capture all primary RGB colors at each pixel location arranged in three layers. The SD15’s “TRUE II” image processing engine helps the camera process a large amount of data, while producing high-resolution, high-definition images with impressive three-dimensional detail and rich gradation.

“Our plans for the SD15 were originally shared with the photo community at photokina in 2008 because we wanted our customers to know that we’re committed to the SD camera system and our outstanding Foveon technology,” said Mark Amir-Hamzeh, general manager of Sigma Corporation of America. “It’s been long-awaited, for sure, but it’s worth the wait. We are really pleased with the image quality we’re getting from this camera.”

In addition to the enhanced processing speed from the TRUE II engine, the SD15 adopts the SD card and incorporates a highly visible 3.0 inch LCD monitor with 460,000 pixels and greater pixel density, a new, 77-Segment AE sensor, an Analog Front End (AFE), and an extra ISO stop at 3200. The SD15’s buffer is also larger than its predecessor’s, allowing 21 raw images to be shot continuously, as opposed to six, and the camera has an improved user interface.

The Sigma SD15 comes with the company’s new Sigma Photo Pro (SPP) 4.0 software, which features new, user-controlled noise sliders that allow for greater control over detail rendering in images taken at ISO 400 and higher, and special algorithms that were specifically developed for processing SD15 raw files. Like earlier versions of the software, SPP 4.0 also contains the X3 Fill Light function, which allows users to easily add light to shaded areas of an image, without overexposing highlighted areas.

In March of 2008, Sigma introduced a high-end compact digital camera, the DP1, which uses the same large image sensor as featured in Sigma’s digital SLR cameras. The new models can shoot 14.2-megapixel still images (in Still Image mode) as well as to take 13.3-megapixel still images whilst a movie image is being recorded (simultaneous recording).
