participate in the critical first round of voting, regardless of their party preference or nonpreference. This is the round of voting that determines what candidates will be on the ballot in the general election and is currently closed to independent voters. Top Two Nonpartisan Primaries would allow all registered voters in Ohio, regardless of party preference or lack thereof, to choose from all the candidates, regardless of candidate party preference or nonpreference.

Under the Top Two NonpartisanPrimary System, all Ohio voters would use the same ballot in the primary, allowing them to choose from all the candidates, regardless of either voter or candidate party preference. The top two vote getters would go on to the general election.

WHO PAYS FOR THE CURRENT PRIMARY SYSTEM?

You, the Ohio taxpayer, pay. Under the current primary system, Ohio voters are unable to vote in the primary except on issues if they choose not to be affiliated with any particular political party. Regardless of whether you are a member of a political party or not, you are still required to pay taxes to support private party primaries.

WOULD TOP TWO NONPARTISAN PRIMARIES END POLITICAL PARTIES?

No. Under the First Amendment, Americans have the right to freely associate, including to form political parties or, instead, to be independent voters who vote for the best candidate regardless of party. The Top Two System would not interfere with the right of private political parties, at their own expense, to endorse candidates participating in the primary election. It would simply ensure that the primary election conducted at taxpayer expense would (1) be open to all registered voters in Ohio; and (2) would allow voters to choose from all candidates, regardless of party preference.

HOW CAN YOU VOLUNTEER OR GET MORE INFORMATION?

Independent Ohio is a grassroots organization that is part of a national network of independent voters. We are building a movement and support structural political reforms that can open up the political process to independents and reduce partisanship in government. Independent Ohio is affiliated with IndependentVoting.org, a national strategy and organizing center for the independent movement. Independent Ohio is focused on empowering voters by building a collective voice and reforming Ohio's political process to give a stronger voice to independent voters.

<span style="font-family: "Calibri","sans-serif"; Griffiths

(Newark, NJ) — The EndPartisanship.org coalition today filed suit in the U.S. District Court in Newark, New Jersey demanding that every voter should have an equal and meaningful vote at every stage of the state-funded election process, regardless of their party affiliation or non-affiliation.
Over 47% of New Jersey voters choose not to register with a political party and 42% of American voters now self-identify as Independent or unaffiliated voters, yet most states have primary systems that give political parties special access to the voting franchise and penalize voters who do not wish to join a political party.

The Republican and Democratic Party have prevented attempts to allow nonpartisan voter participation in many states by asserting their First Amendment right of association. This is despite the fact that primary elections like those in New Jersey are conducted at significant public expense.

Fewer than 8% of all registered voters participated in New Jersey’s last primary election at a cost of $12 million to the taxpayers. This amounted to more than $92 per vote cast. And 2.6 million New Jersey voters were not allowed to vote in the primary election unless they joined either the Republican or Democratic Party.

Samuel Gregory, local counsel for the EndPartisanship.org coalition said, “Today, representatives are accountable to a small partisan base of voters. Those who choose not to participate in divisive partisan politics are pushed out or left out of meaningful participation in the electoral process. We believe the system’s first obligation should be to individual voters, not to political parties. When every voter matters, leaders are rewarded for being good representatives, not good party leaders.”

“A primary election is often the most important part of the electoral process … By denying over 2.6 million New Jersey voters the right to cast a vote in the primary election, the State has disenfranchised nearly half of its electorate, and thereby, given private political parties and partisan voters a greater and unequal access to the voting franchise. As a result, New Jersey’s elections are not free, not equal, and not constitutional for the reasons demonstrated herein.” – Paragraph 4 of the Complaint
New Jersey plaintiffs represented in the suit by the EndPartisanship.org coalition include Mark Balsam, Charles Donahue, Hans Henkes, and Rebecca Feldman who are registered as unaffiliated voters, plaintiff Jaime Martinez, a registered Democrat, and plaintiff Tia Williams, a registered Republican.

The EndPartisanship.org coalition was co-founded by the Independent Voter Project and IndependentVoting.org, both national 501(c)(4) nonprofit organizations. The coalition includes a diverse group of independent organizations, media outlets, election reform advocates, and other participants from across the political spectrum and from across the country. The complete current list of coalition members can be found on the EndPartisanship.org coalition’s website.

"#EndPartisanship is 1st organized effort to defend the right all voters have to equal access to elections." The EndPartisanship.org coalition is the first organized effort to defend and promote the principle that every voter is entitled to an equal right of meaningful participation in the election process, whether or not they choose to affiliate with a political party. Harry Kresky, counsel to Independent Voting, is the national legal advisor. S. Chad Peace, legal advisor to IVP, is the national legal strategist. Samuel Gregory is lead counsel to the New Jersey efforts with Kresky and Peace as co-counsel.

The EndPartisanship.org coalition will continue to focus on legal and political strategies designed to challenge laws, customs and practices that place the rights of political organizations above the rights of individual voters. The coalition believes that while the two major parties should continue to be an important and constructive part of our election process, a party’s strength should not be derived from institutionalized rules, laws, and court precedents. Who Pays the Bill??

From the Independent Voter;

Public funding of political party activities is certainly not a new concept in the United States. In fact, the idea was floated as early as 1907 by President Theodore Roosevelt. However, electoral systems have evolved dramatically since President Roosevelt’s time.
That evolution has created many concerns and questions which must be addressed. For example, why are voters subsidizing private political organizations though their taxes? Why is subscription to ideology-driven partisanship a prerequisite to exercising one’s constitutional right to suffrage? And, how did those rights devolve to the point wherein over half of registered voters no longer have a voice?

New Jersey is just one of many states with a closed primary system, which means voters have to be registered with one of the major parties to participate in primary elections to select party candidates. Because political parties are private organizations and these elections are meant to select the candidates of political parties, primaries should be considered private activities funded with public dollars.

Financing political party activities is expensive, regardless of where the money comes from. However, using public funds to do so requires promotion of a fully accessible process for all those whose taxes are being utilized — a fact that has been overlooked by states like New Jersey for decades.
New Jersey’s odd-year gubernatorial races increase primary frequency. Combined with national partisan primaries and convention delegate nominations, the state’s taxpayers have spent a total of $192.6 million in the span of 13 years on these activities alone.

New Jersey is now requesting even more from it’s electorate: ten dollars from each registered voter with which to fund private political activities, increasing the cost by an additional $49.6 million.

With dismal participation among the 5,459,925 registered voters, 386,039 of them predetermined the 2013 gubernatorial race. In essence, the future of New Jersey politics was determined by 7 percent of the state’s registered voters.

"In short, unaffiliated New Jersey voters have paid over $100 million over the last 12 years to fund primary elections they are not even allowed to vote in."

With an average of 52 percent, New Jersey has been in the top five states recording the highest number of unaffiliated voters since the beginning of the 21st century. This means a majority of New Jersey voters are denied participation in elections they contribute millions of dollars a year to and yet have no say on which candidates will be on the general election ballot. For more than 100 years, partisans have manipulated the electoral process to their benefit through gerrymandering and election laws, denying access to voters who exercise their right to non-association.

The activities of theses private organizations have taken a very heavy toll on the country. They have polarized citizens beyond civil discord and have created an environment so hostile and antagonistic that elected officials can no longer find any unifying position with which to manage the government, and they have created severe apathy in the process by limiting voter choice.

New Jersey is known for milestones in the political landscape. It was the first state in the Union to ratify the Bill of Rights and the third state to ratify the U.S. Constitution. However, unless deep changes are implemented in the state’s election processes, including the vital need to remove barriers that deny voters full participation in state elections, New Jersey will certainly not achieve any milestones related to representative government for all its citizens.

If you don;t think you are over taxed and under represented; take a look at the "election reform"bills in Columbus!!

<link rel="alternate" type="text/html" href="http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/PoliticsArePersonal/~3/gSvM3kn8i8I/how-much-money-do-primary-elections.html" title="How Much Money Do Primary Elections Cost?? (A)(1) When an elector appears in a polling
place to vote, the elector shall announce to the precinct election
officials the elector's full name and current address and provide
proof of the elector's identity in the form of a current and valid
photo identification, a military identification, or a copy of a
current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck,
or other government document, other than a notice of voter
registration mailed by a board of elections under section 3503.19
of the Revised Code, that shows the name and current address of
the elector.

The cleanest reading of this is that the concluding clause, “that shows the name and current address of the elector”, applies to all other allowable types of identification required to vote a regular ballot.

I am being told, by one of the activists in Columbus, that this change could impact one million Ohio voters. This amendment, basically, means that if you have had a name or address change since you last voted - you need to update your license or Ohio ID card and notify your local Board of Elections as soon as possible. Otherwise, you will be asked to vote a Provisional Ballot and, unless you provide proof of identity to the BOE within 7 days of the election, your vote will not count!!

You can update your current address online at http://www.sos.state.oh.us/elections.aspx or you can download a form to update your name change.

Keep your eyes on Columbus as election reform speeds through. You definitely want your vote to count!!

IF you don't think you are over taxed and under represented; you need to wake up! The Alinsky plan to bring down this country is working because WE are allowing it to. We are being herded into two political camps when, in fact, the leadership of those camps could care less about us. Bi-partisanship governing has brought us to this point. Oh yes, it has taken several decades, but look at the damage that has been done in just a few years; lost homes, lost jobs, lost wages, lost health insurance and lost savings and retirement accounts with a continuing economic recession.

Americans are working more hours for less pay. If we are lucky enough to have one, our homes have devalued to the point that we can not afford to sell them. Energy costs are on the rise even though we have a thriving oil and gas industry. Food prices are rising even though we have the best farmers in the world and we subsidize the huge corporate farms with our tax dollars.

American taxpayers foot the bill for the entire world. For decades, Congress has proceeded to give trillions in foreign aide to places for water, education, food and it ends up being used for an opulent lifestyle for a dictator that we put in power in the first place!

Politics is a vicious cycle of greed and corruption. Career politicians, like the ones in Congress and government policy think tanks all over the world, are ruining this country. I am not talking about Syria, Afghanistan or Iran - they are ruining THIS country and that is no longer acceptable to many Americans who are beginning to speak out.

Declare your independence from the 2 party system and vote independent in the 2014 primary. Help bring top two open primaries to Ohio. ONE ballot for all voters; regardless of party. The two candidates with the most votes in each race will face off in the November election; regardless of party!

Tell your representatives that taxpayer funded partisan primaries are unconstitutional because they are! The Ds & Rs can hold their own caucus or mini convention to choose their candidate for the primary ballot in an open primary at their own expense!

Tell your representative that we are tired of sacrificing our young people to police the world. The job of government is defense and infrastructure. OUR defense and OUR infrastructure.

A NON-partisan forum is coming to Oberlin OH in the fall! An unaffiliated voter, which is identified by some people as an “independent voter,” does not vote the ballot of a political party in a primary election. However, an unaffiliated voter may vote the Official Questions & Issues Ballot, if there is one for the voter’s precinct at the election.
(Lorain County BOE website)

"Partisan primary election". Who pays for that election process? Who pays the Lorain County Board of Elections officials and staff? Who pays the poll workers? ALL the taxpayers of Lorain County pay the bills incurred for the election process, the BOE officials and staff; most of which are full time employees.

ALL the voters of Lorain County and the entire state of Ohio should have access to the entire primary ballot. It is the first step in determining who will "represent" us at the state house, in the county commissioner's office or in Washington, DC. Ds, Rs, and other third parties are free to hold a caucus or mini convention to determine the candidate they want listed on the ballot - totally at their own expense, of course!

There is no constitutional law that requires a voter to belong to one party or another. BUT, since bi-partisanship is the current rule of thumb, taxpayers and voters are being held at bay in fear that competitive elections may result in a loss of power for one side or the other. Bi-partisanship has actually become one to keep that from happening.

A Top Two Open Primary would break that bi-partisan stranglehold on Ohio's elections, open the competition to independent and third party candidates, allow ALL voters more choices, save the BOE money, will help resolve the redistricting nightmare and is totally Constitutional. The two candidates with the most votes in each race would face off in the November general election; regardless of party affiliation.

Isn't it time, Ohio? One ballot for ALL voters; regardless of party!! Write, call or visit your Rep in Columbus and them to put this on the ballot for Ohioans to decide.

The next issues to tackle will be the special interests and big money!!

If you don't know by now that you are over taxed and under represented; you are simply not paying attention!! During our lifetimes, all Presidents have issued Executive Orders. For various reasons, some have issued more than others. These things will directly affect us all, in years to come. Question is: Do YOU care enough to send this, 'shocking info,' to people you love and others?

NUMBER OF EXECUTIVE ORDERS ISSUED by U.S. Presidents in the last 100 years:Teddy Roosevelt - 3
All Others until FDR - 0
FDR - 11 in 16 years
Truman - 5 in 7 years
Ike - 2 in 8 years
Kennedy - 4 in 3 years
LBJ - 4 in 5 years
Nixon - 1 in 6 years
Ford - 3 in 2 years
Carter - 3 in 4 years
Reagan - 5 in 8 years
Bush - 3 in 4 years
Clinton - 15 in 8 years
George W. Bush - 62 in 8 years

Obama - 923 in 3 1/2 years! More than 1000+ and counting Executive Orders in 6 years...

Read some of them below – unbelievable!

Next step -dictatorship.. (Looks like we are there already!)

If you don't get the implications, you're not paying attention. How come all the other presidents in the past 100 years have not felt it necessary to INCREASE GOVERNMENT’S POWER OVER THE PEOPLE with more than 1,000 Executive Orders? This is really very scary. And most Americans have absolutely no idea what is happening.

YES, THERE IS A REASON THAT THIS PRESIDENT IS DETERMINED TO TAKE CONTROL AWAY FROM THE HOUSE AND THE SENATE.
Even some Democrats in the House have turned on him, plus a very small number of Democrat Senators have questioned him. Rightfully so. -
WHAT IS OBAMA REALLY TRYING TO ACCOMPLISH????
Remember what he told Russia's Putin: "I'll be more flexible after I'm re-elected".

Now look at these:

EXECUTIVE ORDER 10990 -- allows the government to take over all modes of transportation and control of highways and seaports.

EXECUTIVE ORDER 10995 -- allows the government to seize and control the communication media.

EXECUTIVE ORDER 10997 -- allows the government to take over all electrical power, gas, petroleum, fuels and minerals.

EXECUTIVE ORDER 10998 -- allows the government to take over all food resources and farms.

EXECUTIVE ORDER 11000 -- allows the government to mobilize civilians into work brigades under government supervision.

EXECUTIVE ORDER 11001 -- allows the government to take over all health, education and welfare functions.

EXECUTIVE ORDER 11002 -- designates the registration of all persons. I'm sure you've all heard the tale of the "Frog in the Pot"... Watch Obama's actions, not his words! By his actions he will show you where America is headed.

Obama has issued executive orders that seek to "harmonize" U.S. Economic regulations with the rest of the world. These executive orders are yet another incremental step that is pushing us closer to a North American Union and a one world economic system. Obama used the stage at the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King’s I have a dream speech to announce two new executive orders infringing on your second amendment rights.. The first bans the importation of antique military firearms for sale to sportsman and collectors.. He intentionally mislabels them military grade weapons to deceive the sheeple, but make no mistake . . . the order was written specifically to ban the importation of surplus M1 carbines, M1 Garands, 1903 Springfields and other antiques coveted by collectors and sport shooters. This order is the death knell for the civilian marksmanship program. Congress had previously passed the sportsman protection act in 1986 which among other things guaranteed that the importation of the historic relics for collectors and the CMP would not be impeded by unreasonable regulations..But Emperor Obama does not bend to the will of the people or the rule of law.. He will impose on his subjects what he wishes, when he wishes. At the very least, bring pressure to bear on state and federal legislators to put a stop to tax supported abortions.

One of the first acts of O's presidency was to issue an executive order allowing millions of our tax dollars to be spent around the world for abortions.

I agree that women have the right to decide to have an abortion, BUT it is a personal decision; both morally and financially. I, personally, abhor the thought and act of abortion. Once my tax dollars are used for
the procedure, you have made me financially responsible for your choice and that is totally unacceptable.

The issue of abortion stretches way beyond a woman's right to choose when taxpayer dollars are used to make it available and even promote the convenience.

Read more and get a map to the event at Youth Rally for Life 2014 on facebook.

If you don't think you are over taxed and under represented; you simply are not paying attention.

<category scheme="http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#" term="Democrat. An advocate for tax payers of Lorain County, Williams has worked vigorously to corral spending and making sure the tax payers are not being taken for granted. Despite his fellow commissioners deeming it a losing battle, Commissioner Williams challenged Lorain County’s 10 judges to reduce their budgets and with the county supporting him was able to get them to reduce their budgets by $600,000. Not being satisfied with only cutting a bit of unnecessary funding, Williams continued to work with the county’s Sheriff to consolidate 911 dispatchers to save the county $300,000 a year as well as negotiated with the state to forgive a debt on St. Joe’s Community Center to keep it operations thereby saving Lorain County /tax payers another $850,000.

Commissioner Williams makes it a point to place the welfare and best interests of his constituents in the forefront when deciding on fiscal issues. He has brought cities together to reduce their costs through sharing services and fights for those who feel voiceless when being stuck with unfair sewer rate increases. “I have worked hard to provide practical non-partisan leadership to county government. I believe in a transparent governing body that does not hide from its citizens, hiring people based on their qualifications, and making sure the decisions are done so responsibly; based on what’s best for our entire county” said Williams. Williams surprised many political supporters when he hired a registered Democrat and township trustee as his assistant. When questioned about this hiring, Williams responded that “he was the most qualified candidate that applied for the position and a commissioner’s job is too important to base decisions on personal or political gain.”

When asked about his unique non-partisan attitude within government, Williams commented, “My father retired from US Steel, served in the Army and Marines during two wars and taught me that a handshake was a binding contract and that your name is only as good as your word. He taught me the ability to review a problem from all angles and that making decisions is easy when you’re doing them for the right reasons. So that’s why I keep my word and fight for what’s best for our county and not a political party.”

Now politics, being what they are, would have us believe that shifting the responsibility for the $300,000 cost of dispatchers from the Sheriff to the 911 operators is "saving money". I would hope that we, the People, all recognize that was "moving the debt from one credit card to the other"; taxpayers will still pay.

BUT, I must give Mr. Williams kudos for stopping some of the team K (Kalo & Kowkoski) madness that we call St Joe's Community Center. Taxpayers throughout Ohio are on the hook for millions of dollars over that debacle.

If you don;t think you are over taxed and under represented; you are simply not paying attention!

<link rel="alternate" type="text/html" href="http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/PoliticsArePersonal/~3/bWC1VTSo6qE/commissioner-tom-williams-wants-to.html" title="Commissioner Tom Williams Wants to Continue the Fight for Lorain County Taxpayers!! It is also stealing monies from that old "contributory plan", Medicare.

You know, the real health care program that takes money out of every one of your pay checks so, when you get old, you will have prepaid your old age health care? Payments to Medicare providers have already been cut, as a result of OB Care. As of Jan 1st, 2014, home health care benefits will also be cut. I also paid into an employer supplemented medical insurance plan for over 30 years in addition to that Medicare TAX. Now, I am about to go on Medicare and guess what!! They can also approve the language on ballot measures, for example, and oversee recount processes. Despite these powers, secretary of state races are genuinely not very expensive, meaning a well-funded outside group could have significant impact for far less money than is required in a governor's race, for example.

Republicans currently hold 29 of the 50 secretary of state offices, including 23 of the 39 that are chosen by voters, according to data from the Republican State Leadership Committee. (Three secretaries of state are chosen by state legislatures, and eight more are appointed. Also, a few elected lieutenant governors serve as secretaries of state.)

Rosenthal says Democrats need to start emphasizing these races as much as Republicans have in recent years.

“They tend to be an afterthought, but people have a lot at stake in terms of ballot access, ballot issues, and a range of issues that secretaries of state are deciding," Rosenthal said.

The PAC will focus its efforts on five or six key secretary of state races in 2014 -- potentially in states like Ohio, New Mexico, Colorado and Arizona -- in an effort to regain some ground lost to Republicans in recent years.

The PAC will do both independent expenditures -- paid media -- and assemble a team of consultants in each state that is chosen.

Among the potential backers of the new PAC are labor groups like SEIU and AFSCME, as well as the Democratic women's group Emily's List.
