The old saying ??The outside of a horse is good for the inside of a man?? rings true.

I??ve watched horse shows as well as ridden myself in shows to know the statement is true. There??s something special when we connect. As we learn to work with them we discover how we can work to create a better connection.

A few years ago, I had the opportunity to see one great trainer, Monty Roberts, present at an event. It??s was amazing to see him work with the horses there and witness the changes with the horse and the rider/owners. It solidified for me that with patience and an open mind we can find the way to connect in the right manner.

Even yesterday, Big Brown??s jockey made comments that he sensed that the horse may have been off and ??took care of him??. Big Brown won the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes. Yet he didn??t make history and become another ??Triple Crown Winner". But that didn't matter as much as taking care of Big Brown.

Throughout history there has been an amazing connection with horses and people. To read or watch those stories that touch our hearts brings out the best in ourselves.

I??ve selected a number of horse stories, books and movies, at my site that bring the connection between man/women and horses together in wonderful ways.

Books on horses

??Warming up to changes??

I??ve been able to sit outside and watch the kids enjoying their new swing set (thanks to family), and the warmer weather. The purple and white irises in our garden have now bloomed and the large tree in our yard gives us ample shade since the leaves have opened.

I??ve taken on a few new things too in my business.

I bought an entrepreneurial book, ??The Way of the Accidental Entrepreneur??, and signed up with the coaching group to help me brainstorm, and get clear on the things in my business that need clarification and feedback.

I recently revamped my site too. I changed what I wasn??t happy with and what didn??t seem to be working and placed what I wanted to focus on more to the forefront.

Now that I??ve done that work, I would love to have you explore my updated site and tell me what you think.

Lisa's Art & Horses

Please feel free to email at: lisa@lisasart.com.

Feature Art/product

"Midnight Race"

"Midnight Race" is a lithograph I did when I was at Southeastern Massachusetts University. I learned a couple of techniques used to make lithographs in the Lithography course I took. I wished to capture the beauty and power in horses, yet I didn't want it so realistic. I experimented and came up with this image. Later, I entered it in "The Okterfest" of the Taunton Art Association. I received Second Place. Another day I met the artist who was one of the judges at that show. She was excited to meet me and told me she thought the image was real good. With that I entered it with only some hope, of course, into the juried show at "The Harborfest" in Cohasett. Much to my surprise and joy, I received notice the image got into the juried exhibit and received an Honorable Mention award. It was a hightlight in my art career.

Available in prints $65.

Please feel free to contact me with questions on art/products and/or comments at lisa@lisasart.com
Please feel free to forward this newsletter to friends and family. I??ve always love creating art. I also enjoyed sharing it. One Mother??s day I presented my mom with an oil painting of daisies in a vase. She loved it. Today the daisies are still there on the wall above the desk in their bedroom.

When I and my hubby were getting a little more serious in dating and our relationship, He gave me an idea for a painting. He had this rug from Italy with two lions on it. As a gift to him, I did my own painting of the painting on the rug with some slight variation. Once we were married the painting was placed in our bedroom.

When I was pregnant with our first girl and moved into our new house, I planned out a special mural for the child??(s) room. I painted a Noah??s ark theme, which included the animals, a huge boat and a rainbow. Our first daughter was born midst the time of this creation. I remember putting her down for a nap and going to paint. Since that time she??s enjoyed looking at it from time to time.

This past April my oldest daughter turned 6. One of her birthday gifts was an art easel. She likes to paint. I make sure to place her art on the wall to enjoy too.

There??s a powerful love that comes from sharing with family thru the years.

Happy Mother??s Day

Feature Art/product

"Foals at Play"

There is a joy in watching foals out at play, running and kicking about.

"Foals at Play" image is available on T-shirts.

Please feel free to contact me with questions on art/products and/or comments at lisa@lisasart.com

Art News

The Equine Art Guild's newest Showing

"REFLECTIONS"
the third in a series of virtual Art Shows by the members of the Equine Art Guild
The Equine Art Guild is proud to showcase this special 10th Anniversary Virtual Art Show for members of the Equine Art Guild.

In our spirit of equality and comraderie, we have helped each other grow in our artistic skills over the years. She's a gray speckled pony who was abandoned by her owners when Katrina hit southern Louisiana, USA . She spent weeks on her own before finally being rescued and taken to a farm where abandoned animals were stockpiled. While there, she was attacked by a dog, and almost died. Her gnawed right front leg became infected and her vet went to LSU for help. But LSU was overwhelmed, and this pony was a welfare case. You know how that goes.

But after surgeon Rustin Moore met Molly, he changed his mind. He saw how the pony was careful to lie down on different sides so she didn't seem to get sores, and how she allowed people to handle her. She protected her injured leg. She constantly shifted her weigh t, and didn't overload her good leg. She was a smart pony with a serious survival ethic.

Moore agreed to remove her leg below the knee and a temporary artificial limb was built. Molly walked out of the clinic and her story really begins there.

"This was the right horse and the right owner," Moore insists.
Molly happened to be a one-in-a-million patient. She's tough as nails, but sweet, and she was willing to cope with pain. She made it obvious she understood (that) she was in trouble. The other important factor, according to Moore , is having a truly committed and compliant owner who is dedicated to providing the daily care required over the lifetime of the horse.

Molly's story turns into a parable for life in post-Katrina Louisiana . The little pony gained weight, her mane felt a comb. A human prosthesis designer built her a leg. The prosthetic has given Molly a whole new life, Allison Barca DVM, Molly's regular vet, reports. And she asks for it ! She will put her little limb out, and come to you and let you know that she wants you to put it on. Sometimes she wants you to take it off too." And sometimes, Molly gets away from Barca. "It can be pretty bad when you can't catch a three-legged horse", she laughs.

Most important of all, Molly has a job now. Kay, the rescue farm owner, started taking Molly to shelters, hospitals, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers. Anywhere she thought that people needed hope. Wherever Molly went, she showed people her pluck. She inspired people. And she had a good time doing it.

"It's obvious to me that Molly had a bigger role to play in life", Moore said, "She survived the hurricane, she survived a horrible injury, and now she is giving hope to others."
"She's not back to normal," Barca said, "but she's going to be better. To me, she could be a symbol for New Orleans itself."

Molly's most recent prosthesis, which has a smiley face embossed in it. Wherever Molly goes, she leaves a smiley hoof print behind!

We had a few crocuses (first flowers of spring) appear early on. Then recently I've noticed many green leaves of daffodils coming forth.

In February I chose some sunflower seeds and started them indoors. I chose sunflowers because my oldest daughter loves the color yellow. Our girls have been enjoying watching them grow. I had to recently move the young sprouts to a bigger pot. As soon as it warms a little more I'll try placing them outside. I'm looking forward to adding to and watching what flowers come up this spring in our flower garden.

You never know what life will sprout.
Here's a story of a mixed bag of blessings.

"A mixed bag of Blessings"

I came upon a project that was a mixed bag of blessings.

One blessing was a creative challenge.

As an artist it??s hard to resist a creative challenge. After all there is always some inner growth that comes from such challenges.

In college I enjoyed stretching my creative muscles. Then once out of college, I found those few creative challenges to meet on my own terms. One such project was working on the theatrical production of ??EQUUS?? with a local theater company. My challenge was to create a logo and ??horse masks??. I created a wonderful logo and collaborated with another person in creating these wire horse masks. It was awesome to see the performance on stage and see my horse masks as part of this production (view stage production pictures).

A recent challenge was to paint a painting on a pre-painted panel. The creative juices were flowing. Creative challenges can really create ??a powerful flow of creativity??.

When you mind is open, thoughts and ideas can come flooding in.

Second blessing was Intuition.

We all have that gut feeling and ??little voice inside?? helping guide us, yet sometimes we don??t listen. We sometimes don??t ask the questions we need to. But once realized and followed thru we can see much clearer. We can take the path that most resonates within ourselves. Intuition is a ??great guide?? within us.

Listen closely to your heart and inner voice and search for the challenges that will create growth inside and out.

Feature Art/product

"Jumper" portrays the excitement of watching a horse and rider manipulate a jumper course consisting of many different jumps, big and small. I have gone to some jumping shows and envied the courage and strength shown in horse and rider.

Jumper image is avaiable on t-shirts.

Some people may think that "Luck" is only for some people but they are misled. True Luck is within everyone's reach. The power is within us all.

Here's a wonderful articles that points out each golden aspect that our lives hold.

"Your Life Is A Pot Of Gold"
By Lori Radun

Are only leprechauns lucky enough to find the pot of gold? Absolutely not. You have a pot of gold right there at your fingertips. It's your life. By taking the time to stop and look, you will notice all the riches around you and within you. Let's go on a journey to find your pot of gold.

Finding your Treasures

Your treasures are those people, places or things that are near and dear to your heart. What's important to you? Certainly your children or a spouse would make this list. Maybe it's a friend that always remembers your birthday, or the Starbucks coffee girl that always brightens your day with a smile. Besides my own family, I love my church family. Anyone who shares their heart with me is held close to me. This past weekend I led a women's retreat, and my heart was filled from all the wonderful women I met throughout the weekend. What places in your life bring you joy or peace? Maybe it's nature, a special room in your home, or a favorite restaurant. For me, when I lay down in my bed to read and relax, I feel blessed. My bed is soft, cozy and warm. What values strike a chord with you? Perhaps it is achievement, trustworthiness, or faith. Or maybe it is creativity, companionship, or spirituality. Connect with and protect those ideals in your life and you will experience richness.

The Precious Moments

Everyday, there are moments in time that are just like pieces of gold. However, most of the time, we are too busy to capture them. Yesterday, I had many of those moments. I watched my five year old perform silly tricks with silly names on the bed. I enjoyed moments of relaxation because I gave myself the gift of a housecleaner. While shopping for medicine at the drugstore, I realized the Easter candy was out. One of my favorite candies is Robin's eggs. I indulged and bought a bag - it only happens once a year! I marveled at my teenager's fashion sense. He is picking out his own clothes now, and I must admit, he has sharp taste. Gone are the days of shorts and t-shirts, and me telling him, "That doesn't match". Now, he meticulously selects the perfect pair of cargo shorts with a matching "Apt. 9" polo shirt. Slow down, take a look around, and savor those precious moments.

Identifying your Gifts and Talents

Other pieces of gold in your pot are all the gifts and talents you have within you. What are your strengths? Maybe you great at sewing or decorating. Perhaps you're a great cook or you have a deep sense of empathy for people. Make a list of all the strengths and talents you have been blessed with. Stretch yourself and don't stop until you have reached 50. Now, ask several close family members and friends to add to your list. Chances are, they will see things in yourself that you don't. Have gratitude for your strengths and believe that your gifts and talents are just as important as anyone else's.

Creating and Protecting Your Memories

Everyday, we have the opportunity to create special memories. We can turn an ordinary day into an extraordinary day just by focusing on creating memories. The other day, my best friend sent me pictures of her three little girls all having a tea party at home. What did it take to create this memory? It took a little imagination, a lot of love, a few moments of time, and a digital camera. My five year old loves cars! One day I had an idea that delighted him immensely! We separated all his cars (and he has a lot of cars) by type of car and then took pictures of all the different categories?emergency vehicles, pick up trucks, sports cars, race cars, etc. Time goes by so fast, and if we are not proactive about creating these special memories, you'll miss them. So get out your creativity, a camera and a journal, and start filling your pot of gold.

Giving a Voice to Your Dreamer

As memories represent the past, your dreams represent the future. What do you dream of being or doing one day? I talk to so many moms who have lost their ability to connect with what they are passionate about. It's not that the passions and dreams are missing - they are just buried. Maybe that critical inner voice has discouraged you from dreaming. Our dreams and passions give us hope and joy! Don't let that part of you die. I dream of becoming a popular speaker and inspiring moms wherever I go. I dream of owning a motor home one day and traveling all around the country. I dream of writing a book one day. I am passionate about reading, singing, and personal growth. Dig deep and find your dreams and passions that are lying on the bottom of your pot of gold.

Did you find your pot of gold at the end of the rainbow or is it right there with you? Focus on and have gratitude for all the important people, places and things in your life and your life will be blessed. Slow down and savor the precious moments that slip away when you are too busy to see them. Honor your gifts, talents and strengths by seeing them for what they are. Realize your pot of gold contains all your special memories, dreams, and passions. Dig deep and pull out those pieces of gold so you can live a rich life.

Lori Radun, CEC ?? certified life coach for moms. She had a filly in the spring, 1997. I visited her and her newborn. One day they were outside in the corral enjoying the sun and warm weather. It was one of the First warm days of Spring and there was still some snow leftover. I watched as the foal investigated the snow and then rolled and played in it. I took a few photos of them. I then made a picture of "Mom" and her foal near a small pile of melting snow. My tribute to "Beings of spring".

Lori's Foal is available in cards at my Zazzle.com

and on a writing journal at my Cafepress store.

To celebrate President's Day, I've collected some of my favorite leadership quotes from US Presidents.

The leaders of this country have had some extraordinary obstacles to overcome and they've had to rise to meet many challenges. They have left little bits of wisdom along the way I hope you'll find interesting.

So here are some of my favorite leadership quotes from US Presidents:

1. "Patience and perseverance have a magical affect before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish." - John Quincy Adams

2. "Happiness lies in the joy of achievement and the thrill of creative effort." - Franklin D. Roosevelt

3. "I not only use all the brains that I have, but all that I can borrow." - Woodrow Wilson

4. "Honesty is the first chapter in the book of wisdom." - Thomas Jefferson

5. "As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them." - John F. Kennedy

6. "No man is above the law and no man is below it; nor do we ask any man's permission when we require him to obey it. Obedience to the law is demanded as a right; not asked as a favor." - Theodore Roosevelt

7. "Our defense is in the preservation of the spirit which prizes liberty as a heritage of all men, in all lands, everywhere. Destroy this spirit and you have planted the seeds of despotism around your own doors." - Abraham Lincoln

8. "I hope I shall possess firmness and virtue enough to maintain what I consider the most enviable of all titles, the character of an honest man." - George Washington

9. "The truth is that all men having power ought to be mistrusted." - James Madison

10. " ??Tis better to be silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt." - Abraham Lincoln

11. "Do you want to know who you are? Don't ask. Act! Action will delineate and define you." - Thomas Jefferson
12. "My observation is that whenever one person is found adequate to the discharge of a duty... it is worse executed by two persons, and scarcely done at all if three or more are employed therein." - George Washington

13. "There are two educations. One should teach us how to make a living and the other how to live." - John Adams

14. "Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future." - John F. Kennedy

15. "You are not here merely to make a living. You are here in order to enable the world to live more amply, with greater vision, with a finer spirit of hope and achievement. You are here to enrich the world, and you impoverish yourself if you forget the errand." - Woodrow Wilson

Happy President's Day!

For more leadership quotes, check out the popular leadership quotes section of Famous-Quotes-And-Quotations.com, a website that specializes in 'Top 10' lists of quotations in dozens of categories.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Noel_Jameson
http://EzineArticles.com/?15-Leadership-Quotes-for-Presidents-Day&id=455345

Feature Art/product

"Abba Dabba, I love you" gifts

My mom used to sing me the old song, " Abba Dabba Honeymoon", when I was young. They both are enjoying school and learning. For them it's been an adventure in learning new things and meeting other children.

In the same token, I've learned some new things and have met other people too.

In my business, I've learned to network online and offline. I recently joined a local networking group and have enjoyed meeting new contacts. I've also attended online events and presented my business at a couple of them.

In implementing new things to add to my business I'm happy to say I've come across some wonderful projects to be involved in. One such project developed from a professional pencil portrait group. A sub-group was formed to offer portraits for soldiers who lost their lives in service: Soldierportraits.org. I recently did a soldier portrait and found it a moving and wonderful experience.

Another project is on the horizon. A huge mural about horses. There will be information on this project in the coming issues.

With implementing these and other new things into my business I've found that writing down goals each week has helped me stay focused and reach for bigger goals too.

I attended a wonderful seminar about resolutions and goal setting by Felicia Slattery. Felicia is a communications consultant. She offers courses and information about communicating in business.

I'd like to share 3 tips that she presented that I feel could help us all.

"3 P's of writing New Year's Resolutions for your business"

Using these three little gems alone will instantly put you miles ahead of where you may have been
in the past.

A. Positive: Goals should be phrased positively, so they help you
feel good about yourself and what you're trying to accomplish.

B. Personal: Goals must be personal. They must reflect your own
dreams and values, not those of friends, family, or the media. When
your goals are personal, you'll be motivated to succeed. You'll also
take greater pride in your accomplishments.
C. Possible: When setting goals, be sure to consider what's possible and within your control. If you want to make some drastic changes in your life, you cannot do everything at once. Start with
three things to change.

Felicia Slattery is a communication consultant, speaker and coach
specializing in training home-based business professionals to see
more cash flow through effective communication with their clients
and target audiences. She teaches teleseminars, leads workshops,
publishes written and audio materials, and offers private coaching to
individual clients on improving their communication skills. Having
taught communication skills for more than a decade, Felicia knows
what it takes to help her clients see results ?? she lives and
communicates with confidence! She offers a free e-course as well as a number of other
free resources available on her website.
Her newest business course:
Resolution Results for Your Business Success in 2008

Jump Start Your Network Marketing Biz now!

Feature Art/product

"Our Girls"

This is a pencil portrait of our two girls.

We've felt very blessed having our children and love watching them grow and learn.

This drawing was printed on a holiday card to family and friends.

Dance to the music!" - Three Dog Night

"I just want to celebrate another day of livin'." - Rare Earth

"It's a celebration!"- Kool and the Gang

Let's put this under the heading of "things I just don't
understand."

What I want to know is this - why do we treat the holiday season like it's an emergency?

I mean, it's not like Christmas comes as a surprise every year.

Because we treat the holiday season as an emergency, we tend to forget what the season is all about: celebration!

Whether you are celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or simply a few days off from work, the point is to celebrate.

With that notion in mind, I've taken the word "celebration" and come up with 11 suggestions for how to tap into the power of celebration in your life.

Cherish- Cherish your life, your loved ones, your work. My dictionary defines cherish as "to hold dear to you." There are so many things in our lives to cherish. What might it be for you?

Enthusiasm - So many people go through each day in a trance. If you don't believe me, just stand outside a large office building on_Monday morning, and you'll see what I mean.

What would our lives be like if we brought the same kind of enthusiasm that we bring to a football game into all areas of our lives?

Living with Passion- "Live with passion" is the motto of motivational expert Tony Robbins. Similar to enthusiasm, living with passion means to make the most of every day, every event, every gift, every relationship.

Excitement - Have you ever noticed that many of the sensations that are part of excitement (rapid heartbeat, sweaty palms, feeling charged) are also the same sensations that go along with anxiety? How could you change your anxiety into excitement this year?

Belief - It was Jesus who said, "If you have be lief the size of a mustard seed, you can say to that mountain, move, and it shall be moved." The power of belief allows us to move the mountains of our lives.

Rejoice - Exactly what does it mean to rejoice? My dictionary defines rejoice as "to feel or express joy or gladness, to exult." A rejoicing soul is a happy soul: Find something to rejoice in this holiday.

Attitude and action - It's been said that "your attitude determines your altitude." While that may be true in part, attitude is worthless unless it's followed by action.

Time - We are all familiar with the old saying, "Time heals all wounds." Sorry, I don't buy it. Time is neutral; it merely passes. It's what we do with our time that makes the difference between mediocrity and a life well lived.

Imagination - Do you use yours? Or have you set it aside? The power of imagination is at the root of every great change and achievement.

Opportunity - When we focus on what is wrong with our lives, we tend to miss the opportunities that come our way. When we are celebrating our lives, we are focusing on what works, and then are able to see the multitude or opportunities that come our way each day.

Now: Celebrate now - Not next year, not when you are out of school, not when you get that new job or are making more money. Celebrate now. No one is promised a next year or even a tomorrow. Celebrate now.

In closing, if you used just one of these tips in this holiday season and next year, I believe you would benefit.

Allow me to leave you with this question:

What would your life be like if you used all 11 of them, and celebrated all year long?

Visit The Internet Article Guy for more leading edge tips and tools for writing articles that bring you prospects, publicity and profits. We had been in a three room apartment
in Quincy, MA for about 5 years. I became pregnant with our first child so we decided to look to buy a house. We found this house in March with help from our sister-in-law, who'd lived in Pawtucket a while. It was just right for us. We moved in March 23, 2002. Just three weeks after moving in I went into labor. We in time settled into our home and parenthood.
I really liked the old look of the windows on our porch. I've always liked an old touch to some things. So I created this illustration.

Card illustration

In the following article. Take in his profound words on this holiday.

'Tis the Season for Giving - A Brief History of Why We Give Thanks

By Elizabeth Smith

Thanksgiving is on its way to a dinner table near you. But have you ever truly understood why we ??give thanks?? on this food-filled Thursday? Most people know that Thanksgiving is a time to gather with family, friends, and a bountiful feast to celebrate and give thanks to God for an abundance of food from the autumn harvest. But do many people know the roots of this North American tradition? Here is a brief summary of what Thanksgiving is all about and how it came to be what it is today.

In the United States, Thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November. Traditionally, Thanksgiving is a time to share a feast among family and friends. Many people will travel thousands of miles to celebrate this holiday in the home of a relative. A traditional Thanksgiving meal in the United States will consist of turkey, cranberry, mashed potatoes, candied yams, gravy, green beans, stuffing, and the ever-popular pumpkin pie.

Although it is not agreed upon, it is believed by many that the first Thanksgiving was in the autumn of 1621, when the Pilgrims held a three-day feast in celebration of their bountiful harvest following their arrival in North America. Many accounts of this feast depict the Pilgrims and Native Americans to have laid down their weapons to celebrate the abundant food together. Following this historical event, Thanksgiving was not again held until 1623, following a drought.

Thanksgivings continued to occur on an irregular basis until the mid 17th Century, when they began annually, following the autumn harvest. But it wasn??t until 1863 that President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a National Thanksgiving Day to be held on the final Thursday in November.

Today, we continue to feast and give thanks on this glorious day. However, we not only give thanks for what we are about to consume, we give thanks for the loved ones that we choose to surround ourselves with. Thanksgiving began as a thanks to God for an abundance of food and alas, continues today as a giving of thanks for all that God has given us.

"The year that is drawing towards its close has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added, which are of so extraordinary a nature, that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever watchful providence of Almighty God. In the midst of a civil war of unequalled magnitude and severity, which has sometimes seemed to foreign States to invite and to provoke their aggression, peace has been preserved with all nations, order has been maintained, the laws have been respected and obeyed, and harmony has prevailed everywhere except in the theatre of military conflict; while that theatre has been greatly contracted by the advancing armies and navies of the Union. Needful diversions of wealth and of strength from the fields of peaceful industry to the national defence, have not arrested the plough, the shuttle, or the ship; the axe had enlarged the borders of our settlements, and the mines, as well of iron and coal as of the precious metals, have yielded even more abundantly than heretofore. Population has steadily increased, notwithstanding the waste that has been made in the camp, the siege and the battle-field; and the country, rejoicing in the consciousness of augmented strength and vigor, is permitted to expect continuance of years, with large increase of freedom.

No human counsel hath devised nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy.

It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently and gratefully acknowledged as with one heart and voice by the whole American people. I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens. And I recommend to them that while offering up the ascriptions justly due to Him for such singular deliverances and blessings, they do also, with humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience, commend to his tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty Hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquillity and Union.

In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand, and caused the seal of the United States to be affixed.

Done at the city of Washington, this third day of October, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, and of the independence of the United States the eighty-eighth."

Proclamation of President Abraham Lincoln, 3 October, 1863.

Liz Smith is the Program Manager of ModernSage.com, a leading women's health and wellness community offering New Traditions for Living Well. We dressed Emily up in a pumpkin outfit and went around to saying "Hi" to the neighbors. We took pictures of her in her costume.

In 2003, we were "cats" and met with the local moms group for a Halloween party.

Amanda was born in 2004, and of course we saved the costumes from previous years. She was a pumpkin for her first Halloween too.

The following years, our girls have been princesses and "Dora".

It's so much fun to see them in their costumes and playing with the idea of characters. It's a way we can all play in different roles.

This year it's probably going to be "Dora" and maybe a pirate or spiderman. We'll see. Of course we'll have the camera to take pictures.

Enjoy the moments that these holidays bring.

Feature Art/product

"Diva"

This is a portrait of "Diva". Diva was owned by Amanda, one of the students at Haskins Farm. I knew her and her grandparents who came often to the barn. As a gift from her grandparents I was commissioned to make a portrait of Diva and transfer it onto a T-shirt. When finished, I gave it to her grandparents who presented it to her. She loved it.

For me, it's wonderful to share my work with others.

It was great to read about what they were doing and exchanging ideas.

Once computers and the internet became common place there were even more ways to connect to others. When I took my business online, I slowly gained knowledge about other ways to connect to people. Having an at-home business can seem lonely. So I joined a few networks where I??ve met some great people.

I needed some face to face contact, so I joined a couple of local groups. I collected their info and emailed them to get to know them and exchange ideas with them.

Connecting with others enriches our lives each day.

There are so many ways to connect today. Even with present lives being busy, we all must take time to connect with each other. It??s human nature after all.

I??ve found a new way to send cards and write to others. SendOutCards.com

Connecting with card is a great idea. So try it out.

SendOutCards.com

I offer images available to SendOutcard users.

Card cover images for SendOutCards

Best to you

The Tree in the Backyard

We have a large tree in our backyard. It??s near the right corner of our yard. It has a good size trunk and its?? branches reach high up toward the sky above the house. It affords us a good amount of shade. We placed the sand box near it and the slide set is near it too. Our children can play in the shade when it??s hot.

The tree is also home to my birdfeeder. We have a number of birds that have visited it: cardinals, sparrows, mourning doves, titmouse and a nuthatch. We also have squirrels that love to climb the tree and fence.

In Fall the leaves change from their rich green to a vibrant yellow. The kids love collecting the leaves. We rake the leaves and create large piles. My oldest has helped with gathering the leaves and stuffing the bags full. We also can??t resist a little play of rolling and kicking the leaves about.

After raking most of the leaves, I leave a light layer of them to rejuvenate the grass and garden areas.

Once Winter has passed, I clear the old leaves to make room for spring growth. Flowers bloom and color our yard.

These are the wonders the tree offers.

I can see my children love our tree too. My youngest has been known to go up to it and give it a hug.

Thank you, Tree

Feature Art/product

"Great Pond in Fall"

The Reds, Yellows, and Oranges of the Fall season are inspiring.

One very popular activity is foliage viewing. I often love to drive around to view the beauty of the leaves that Jack Frost has left us. As we drove down the highway in the distance the sky was lit by the sun??s last rays. It was a beautiful yellow and orange sunset with a few scattered purple clouds. Our daughter Emily exclaimed ??a rainbow??. She??s never really noticed a sunset before, until that day. So we gently corrected her and said , ??it??s a Sunset??.

It was very colorful. Our girls enjoyed watching the sunset as we drove south down the highway.

It was a few miles down the rode when my husband and I noticed something else. Illuminated by the last light of the day was an incredibly beautiful cloud. It was a kind of cloud I??d never seen before. It was a very large cloud consisting of long wispy cloud streaks. It curved up into the sky. It was like a painting with big brush strokes curving heaven ward.

I found out later, this cloud formation has a name. It??s refer to as a ??mare??s tail??.
The weatherman noted it during the late newscast.
I looked up some information about clouds. Here??s a link:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noctilucent_cloud

Nature always inspires me and this was just one more moment.
It is true that it??s hard to match nature??s beauty, yet we can grow from it each time we see something special.

I love nature. Having my children has now enabled me to look and share the world and nature with them.

There is wonder and amazing beauty in the world we live in. We just have to be open to seeing what is here.

Feature Art/product

Farm on Rte 104 "

I often go out driving around different towns or areas to take pictures of scenery or animals. I have often drove down Rte. 104 and saw this farm. One day I stopped and asked the owner if she minded if I do some drawing here. She told me many artist have stopped there and done paintings. I sat down and did some stetches as well as take a few pictures for reference. Later, I did a Pen and Ink drawing of the Farm.

I entered it into the spring exhibit at the Taunton Art Asssociation. It got a third place ribbon.

Available in prints at: imagekind.com

Art News

The Equine Art Guild's newest Showing

??The Artist's Horse As Muse ??
An exhibit of those special horses in each artist's life that have inspired them to create many a wonderous work of art.

Visit The Equine Art Guild website at www.equineartguild.com

Soldier Portraits
Darla Dixon organized a group of artists who will create no-charge compassionate portraits for the families who have lost a loved one in Operation Iraqi Freedom/Operation Enduring Freedom. Inseparable from the Wild West, and indistinguishable from the image of the American cowboy, horses will be forever identified with the picture of early Americana. But no breed of horse is more interconnected with this cherished history than Paint horses.

But as closely associated with American history as they are, ironically, Paint horses had their start in America via Spain. When Spanish explorers came to the New World in 1519, they brought with them an enormous amount of supplies and a number of horses. These Paint horses eventually dotted the landscape in wild herds, and by the 1800s tribes of American Indians were using the breed for riding.

There were a variety of names attached to these spot covered horses throughout the 1800s and 1900s, but the name that seemed to stick was the Pinto horse. However, a group of horse enthusiasts, dedicated to preserving more than just the unique color patterns of this particular breed, formed in the 1960s calling themselves the American Paint Stock Horse Association - a group that went on to eventually identify and classify the different varieties of Paint horses.

Paint horses - under this strict classification system - must not only adhere to strident color pattern regulations but must have at least one parent that is a registered Paint horse in order to be identified as part of the breed.

The color patterns specific to paint horses include any combination of the color white and another color standard to horses such as brown, gray or black. Their distinctive coloring often looks like splashings of paint - or markings - over the horse's body but actually fall into three color classifications that a horse must have in order to be considered a Paint horse.

The three color patterns are: tobiano, which generally features four white legs, round or oval spots across the chest and neck area, and a two-toned tail; the overo pattern wherein the prominent color is either white or dark, four dark legs, white head coloring, and single colored tail; and a combination of tobiano and overo that is referred to as tovero and used to describe those Paint horses that have common qualities of both.

Paint horses today are often seen in modern day rodeos, as well as in horse competitions such as racing and showing. The American Paint Horse is a naturally intelligent breed that is extremely amiable and easily trained. As such, they are also often used for trail riding and as a temperate ride for children.

The image of paint horses conjure up thoughts of the American frontier where battles were waged on open land and under endless skies. This particular breed of horse encapsulates all the romanticism of these primitive beginnings. But the modern paint horses stay true to their history while taking their place in modern times both as a competitor and as a companion.

For more information on horses, try visiting http://www.interestinghorses.com - a website that specializes in providing horse related tips, advice and resources including information on the paint horse.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Riley_Hendersen http://EzineArticles.com/?Paint-Horses-As-A-Part-Of-American-History&id=504688

Feature Art/product

"Handy Horse"
Pen and Ink

"Handy Horse" is western horse and rider performing a set pattern. Then when they get older other things, perhaps boys (LOL) take their place.

Well not for some girls and woman. I??m one of them.

I??ve loved horses from the first time I was near them. The first time I was near them was when my parents would take us to a local farm for pony rides. I was probably one of the few children that didn??t cry when put on their back. I instead loved it. I??ve always been petite and thought it was great to see the world from their back. It was a perfect perch for a little girl. I also thought they were gentle and beautiful.

I learn to ride horses when I was able to talk my parents into sending me to a local camp where I could learn to ride them.

In my senior year in High school, I would spend time on the weekend going to a local barn to clean stalls for a chance to ride. Some days I rode the owner??s horse. Other days I??d just go there and do some drawing or groom the horse. It was wonderful.

Presently I don??t have time to be near horses much at all. But I still think about them and draw them.

Last week ??The Black Stallion?? movie aired again. I just had to see it again for the _ _ _ time. (LOL)

I saw it when it first came out in the 1980??s. My friend and I sat in front row seats.

My favorite scene and one I can connect to sort of on some level is when Alex rides The Black.

An Egyptian music mix with a strong drum beat slowly builds as Alex gets on The Black.
The drum beats gradually increases as Alex begins to ride. Alex has a couple of falls into the shallow water, but The Black returns and Alex gets back on.
Once Alex gets his balance they ride up onto the sand. The Drum beat is now in rhythm with the horse??s hoof beats. The camera view is close up and one can feel like ??They're?? riding The Black down the beach. The ride is a glorious event of Joy.

I??ve had my own wonderful riding moments and cherish everyone of them.

Presently I can only put it down on paper.

I dream of some day having a horse buddy to ride.

Perhaps I??ll be making more horse memories in the future.

So what's your favorite Horse movie or horse movie moment?

Happy trails

Happy Fathers Day

My Dad always made time for "family time". It was important. One of the things we did was we traditionally ate supper as a family just about every night.
Yet one of my favorite family times was our family vacations.
Mom and dad would decide on a place to go. They would plan where to stay and look thru the Tourbooks from AAA.Then, We would get up early and pack up the car and go.

The first place we went to was Washington, D.C.
We visited some museums and went on a tour of the White House. We also visited the zoo. We saw ling ling and sing sing the panda bears.

Over the years we visited places such as Vermont, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania (Amish country), and to Canada's Quebec and Niagara Falls.

The vacations were filled with learning about the place, seeing people and learning new things. Later my mom would compile the pictures in photos albums so to look at them and remember those great memories.

There was adventure. Tho I wouldn't really get the "travel bug", my sisters did. They traveled to places on the other side of the world.
I did revisit some places, such as Niagara Falls with my husband. It was a wonderful time and a great trip.

My Dad instilled learning and seeing what there to see.

Life is a journey, so take in what you can.

Happy Father's Day.

I experiemented and came up with this image. Later, I entered it in "The Okterfest" of the Tauton Art Association. I received Second Place. Another day I met the artist who was one of the judges at that show. She was excited to meet me and told me she thought the image was real good. With that I entered it with only some hope into the juried show at "The Harborfest" in Cohasett. Much to my surprise and joy, I received notice the image got into the juried exhibit and received an Honorable Mention award. It was a hightlight in my art career.

"Midnight Race" is available in prints, and T-shirts.

Art Exhibit News

The Equine Art Guild's newest Showing

??The Artist's Horse As Muse ??
An exhibit of those special horses in each artist's life that have inspired them to create many a wonderous work of art.

Visit The Equine Art Guild website at www.equineartguild.com .

She believes it??s her ticket to New York City.

When asked why she is auctioning off this minuscule amount of salt water Emerson stated, ??I??ve been invited to New York for a writing seminar held by Mark Victor Hansen. The moment I received the invitation I knew I would be at that seminar. But there was a list of things that had to happen first. I needed to trademark my teaching system before presenting it in manuscript form in New York as well as other details. Then I had this crazy idea. If Kyle MacDonald could trade a red paper clip for a house last year, surely I can auction this piece of the famous Salt Lake for a trip to New York City. After all, I am not trying to buy New York; I just want to borrow it for a day. So, you see, it??s an experiment. I??m a writer, what can I say. ??

Emerson is a public speaker, mentor and author of the Law of Attraction and other universal laws that have taken the world by storm since the release of the movie The Secret a year ago. She is putting this law to the test with her experiment. Will the world see Emerson in New York City at the end of May or will she find her dream floating in the second saltiest lake on earth?

Kim Mutch Emerson is available for interviews by telephone at 801-788-4197. My thoughts linger at the sound.
We step outside to do an errand and in the hurry to get into the car and keep from getting too wet, my daughter points out the flowers nearby.
I 'm reminded to stop and to find joy in nature.
Here's an article I found that I enjoyed reading about Lessons from Nature.

Lessons From Nature - April Showers
By John Gilmore

It has been said that April showers bring May flowers. When it is May and I look out the window I can see that the statement is true. Most of us can. May days are often beautiful. The skies are blue, the clouds billowy and crisp and the winds subtle and cool. On days like those I often stop, take a breath, look around, and perceive the beauty of nature. All these plants that were formerly just brown branches, or non existent, are suddenly spreading their leaves and blossoms, bringing the world back to life.

As I notice the beauty and wonder of spring, I am reminded of life and how beautiful and wonderful it is. Life can be devastating, of course??sometimes, but life is also wonderful. For it is in the experience of the wind and the sun, the cold and the warmth, the pain and the delight that we find real life.

To live a full life means experiencing the joys and the sorrows. If we only experience the joys and do not experience the sorrows, we will become less than human. Our hearts will harden and we will become the cause of other people??s distress. Not experiencing sorrows in our lives removes our capacity to empathize with others and to love freely.

Feeling too much sorrow and no joy destroys us. It does not give us hope for the future. It makes us angry and spiteful, so that we always want to reach out and to hurt others. It makes us less than human, because it teaches us that we can only gain by lashing out. We can only find comfort by making others as miserable, or more miserable than we are. That is why I am grateful for the joys and for the sorrows. Without both the joys and the sorrows, we don??t have life??we have self justification and survival.

It is very important for us to the time, therefor, to stop and look up at the beautiful skies??to look at the beauty of the running brook, or the still placid lake, or to just feel a cool wind against our faces and to inhale deeply. It is important to enjoy life to the fullest. What can we enjoy? We can enjoy friends, loved ones, and experiences. We can enjoy life as its beauty and awe, like the flowers after the rain, burst forth in beauty and wonder. We can find the strength, the hope, the power to go forward through the onslaughts of pain and sorrow knowing this: We have the power to make life beautiful again. When the sorrow and the pain comes let us be reminded that they will one day pass. If we have been mindful through the pain and suffering, all of the good things will spring up like roses after the rain.

Dr. John W. An organization was formed to further the education and bring programs to all in recognizing women's contributions.
The knowledge of women's history provides a more expansive vision of what a woman can do. This perspective can encourage girls and women to think larger and bolder and can give boys and men a fuller understanding of the female experience.
The theme for Women??s History Month 2007 is ??Generations of Women Moving History Forward.?? This theme celebrates the wisdom and tenacity of prior and future generations of women and recognizes the power and impact of generations working together. Moving History Forward is a process of individuals coming together for the greater good of the society and confirming the idea that individuals working together can be effective in building a better, more compassionate world.
To find out more about the "National Women's History Project got to: http://www.nwhp.org/

Let's celebrate the women of today and the many women that came before us.

Feature Art/Product

"Missy"
Pastel portrait

"Missy", was a horse I rode in my riding lessons at Haskins Farm. She was a wonderful horse to ride and learn with.
Though when I first saw her, I would have never guessed what was to be in store in the future. I saw her at a horse show at Haskins Farm. I didn't think much except I picked her out as one horse there at that show that appealed to me. Another day I came to the barn for one of my lessons, and one of the girls there was excited. She asked me if I saw the new baby just born a few days ago. I said no and I followed her to the barn. I looked in to see "Missy" with her newborn foal. I remember thinking she was really beautiful, but still thought she's probably just a broodmare at the barn. She was owned by the Co-owner of the barn. A few months later, she started to be used in the school program and was being ridden by students. One day my instructor told me to go and get her as my horse to ride. I still remember the surprise and excitement I felt at the opportunity to ride her. I continued riding her. I rode her in the 1993 Show Season and ended the year as Champions of the Walk-Trot Division.
Later, I saw and got to visit her and her babies that she had in the following years. She let me visit and pet her and her baby. She seemed to trust I wouldn't hurt her or her baby. I got a number of pictures of her with her baby out in the corral.
It was wonderful watching them run and play and just relax. I made a portrait of one of her babies and her.
She developed a stifle problem after her last foal. It was slow at healing and would weaken the area permanently, thus they retired her from both the school program and from breeding. It was best for her health and quality of life.

Lisa Wald Guarino is a freelance artist. That our "thoughts become things". We attract situations and things thru the energy of our thoughts and feelings .
We can change who we are, what we're doing, and whom we want to be with by changing our thoughts. Positive thoughts and actions can lead to wonderful changes in our life.

Love has powerful energy. We first need to find the love within ourselves. Then other loves can enter our lives. Whether it's finding a passion to turn into "our"work, or finding someone to be with and create a life together.

I found this article of interest on this subject. Read thru it and perhaps try the exercise.

Love is all around us.

Love is All There Is-The Rest We Make Up
By Dr. Iris Fanning

Love and work are the cornerstones of our humanness. Sigmund Freud

I've worked with thousands of people...young and old; the two basic life balances and sometimes struggles are finding one's right work and creating loving relationships. We'll celebrate love in it's many forms this month. Enjoy!

LOVE IS ALL THERE IS - THE REST WE MAKE UP

Albert Einstein said the most fundamentally important question that you will ever ask yourself is this, ??Do I live in a friendly or a hostile universe?

If we are to believe that something, some intelligence, created the universe, we have to come to some determination of what characteristics that "something" possess. When we believe that the Universe is fundamentally a friendly place, we then realize that the characteristics of spirit are also friendly.

Since we are made/created by spirit then we too can assume we are infused with the same characteristics of spirit which created us. So, what characteristics does God/spirit/universal intelligence have? Love, peace, joy, acceptance, happiness, contentment, intelligence, prosperity, perfect health, abundance, creativity, mastery, affluence, flow, ease, and energy.

AFFIRM

You are a unified field with spirit or that which created you. So, when you experience love, you experience it from the very creative source of the universe. Affirming that love is "in me, through me, around me and as me" attracts more love, peace, joy and acceptance in your life. When you sense/feel love flowing through you, your experience is one of optimism, hope, love, joy and trust. When you have those feelings, love comes to you easily. You experience joy from simple things. You have a sense of wonderment and awe. You bring more of those good experiences into your life.

EXPERIMENT

I invite you to take this month to align yourself with the creative power of the universe. Affirm that you are loving and loveable. That there is an abundance of everything you need. Hold this thought in your mind and remind yourself of this anytime you feel frustrated, agitated, bored or unhappy. As part of this experiment, simply notice & record. What changes have you experienced? Are people reacting differently to you? Do you feel happier or more at peace? Do pets or children act differently around you? Notice whether conflicts increase, decrease or stay the same? Are you easier or harder to live with?

Please try this experiment and then email me at coachiris@hotmail.com with some of your experiences/results. We have many thoughts and ideas that we would like this new year to be filled with. Making resolutions/ goals that are attainable is the key.
Here's a great article for creating a plan for your goals.

Setting Goals For The New Year That Last Beyond January 31st
By Beth Silver

For many of us, New Year's goals are easily set and more easily sacrificed for those matters we deem more pressing. Whether it's reconnecting with old contacts, improving your financial situation or improving sales in your firm, New Year's goals can be very difficult to keep. By working on the goals you set now, future goals will be easier to attain. Besides, learning new things or the possibility of new revenues, reaching goals often leads to improved self-esteem and confidence.

The following tips can help you set and work towards reaching your goals, past January 31st:

Believe in Yourself: Realize the New Year is a great excuse for a fresh start and to review the past year, a bit more objectively. Be excited at the opportunities that come your way and see how you can become a catalyst to get things moving.

Sharpen your Pencils: In order to achieve goals, it helps to put them in writing. This action allows you to be accountable to yourself and lets you see what you need to do when things look harder than they seem. Believe it or not, writing things down makes goals more achievable than when there is a jumble of thoughts bouncing around in your head.

Review Last Year's Goals: Take an objective look at the business and personal goals you made last year. Evaluate what you were able to achieve and move forward; learn to let go of lower level priorities that may be holding you back. Set Realistic Goals & Objectives: When you think about new goals and objectives, make sure they're within your reach. Be mindful of your time, energy, commitments and resources. Many people forget that life continues, even when you set new goals. If you don't take this into consideration now, it will lead to unrealistic goal setting.

Develop a Plan: Think about a plan for reaching your goals. Create a timeline with steps. Set deadlines for each step and cross them off as you go. Schedule and update meetings with yourself in a monthly calendar to ensure you are reviewing and adjusting these steps as it relates to your life.

Be Flexible: Remember, life is full of change, and as such, changes will need to be made. Don't get discouraged. Stay focused, as long as you are working toward your goals, things are moving in the right direction.

Celebrate: It's very important that you reward yourself. Goal setting and goal reaching is not easy. The fact that you are considering these steps means you are serious about bettering your career and even your life. Go out and celebrate! Celebrations can include going to Starbucks, getting a manicure or spending time with friends.

The start of the New Year does not have to be the only time to set and achieve new goals. Whether you are setting personal, financial or business goals, I wish you all success on your journey.

Beth Silver has been providing marketing and business strategies (http://www.doubetllc.com/services) to entrepreneurs and small business owner for over 10 years. Today they even appear in commercials.

Long ago, draft horses helped man in so many ways from helping on the farm to exploring new lands.
Today in our motorized and technological world, a lot of us only occassionally come across them. But apparently they haven't been all forgotten.
Some draft loving people have found a special niche for them in today's world.

Enjoy reading this article about drafts in today's world.

Make Mine a Draft

From tilting to tilling -- and everything in between -- these "gentle giants" are perennial showstoppers.
By Laurel Scott
They're the strongmen of the horse world, blending both power and patience in one gargantuan package. But there's a lot more to draft horses than meets the eye.
Once the preferred mounts of medieval knights, these "super-sized" equines have a long and colorful history of service to humankind. That service continues to this day, thanks to a renewed appreciation of their beauty and versatility. ... read article here.

Art Exhibit News

??Interpretations??

The Equine Art Guild's Latest Showing
??Interpretations?? is an On-Line Exhibition of work by member artists.

Visit The Equine Art Guild website at www.equineartguild.com.

Equine Art Guild

Have a great day

"pass it on" to a friend.

Sincerely,

Lisa Wald Guarino
Lisa's ART & Horses
181 West Forest Ave.
Pawtucket, RI 02860
www.lisasart.com
lisa@lisasart.com

I buy the small candles in many colors. I love placing a rainbow of different colored candles in the Memorah. Then carefully lighting each one as we say the prayer. The site of them lit always makes me feel warm inside.

I also love driving around to see the many Christmas lights. Our Emily has grown excited at seeing the lights at nights now.
Seeing sparkling lights here and there as we drive thru the cold night warms the heart.

So with warm hearts, Celebrate this Season

Feature Horse story

by Pamela Beers

Writing And Riding: A Spiritual Connection
By Pamela Beers

Some things just go better together than others. A thick, juicy, porterhouse steak with a glass of merlot floats my boat. Creamy peanut butter and homemade raspberry jam on toast with a tall glass of ice cold milk is another turn-on. But, what really excites me is a packet of yellow legal pads and a thick rubber-grip, ballpoint pen. It is difficult to imagine one without the other, like Lucy and Desi or Bogart and Bacall.

Writing has been my passion for years. All through high school and well into college, teachers and professors wanted me to pursue a writing career. At the same time working with horses was, and continues to be, another passion, definitely on equal par with writing. It has all evolved into an eclectic mix of interests. I pondered for the longest time, wondering how and why these two particular areas of my life, writing and horses took such a hold on me and never let go.

I??ve decided to ride Silver Lining this morning. After tacking her up and leading her outside, I proceed to get on her. As we head for the fence line, I see a herd of deer standing motionless, camouflaged among the trees in the woods.

By the time we reach the end of the fence line, the deer have scattered, the underside of their white tails visible as they bound across the dry leaves of the woodland floor. At this point I ask my horse for a hand gallop through the old hay field. It keeps her mind off the departing deer and focused on me. She snorts in glee for almost a mile. It feels as though I am suspended in time, in another world. I feel a sense of freedom that I have never been able to capture doing anything else.

I enjoy a sense of child-like wonder as I observe the surrealistic beauty of my surroundings. It is as though I am looking at a French impressionist painting, becoming immersed in the visual experience, totally unaware of the time, and then getting lost in the Artist??s masterpiece. Off in the distance I can now smell apple wood coming from a wood-burning fireplace. The crackling leaves underfoot make my horse spook a little, bringing me back to the present moment.

Slowing down to a walk, my horse and I continue to enjoy our ride together. We pick up a canter going up and down hills, and at one point, are both startled by a gaggle of geese overhead that ??honk?? their way toward the lake. After the geese disappear through the now gray cloud cover, Silver and I meander back to the barn, where I un-tack the horse, put her blanket on, and turn her out with her two ??girlfriends??.

Walking back down to the house, I think about my ride, my relationship with my horse, and my writing. I can??t wait until I pick up that yellow legal pad, and rubber-grip, ball- point pen. The sights, sounds, and smells of the day have transformed me from rider to writer.

After an invigorating ride across open fields on my energetic, gray thoroughbred mare, it becomes obvious that riding helps me to write. It clears my head. Writing cleanses my soul. Sometimes the process is reversed. Writing clears my head, while riding cleanses my soul. There is a true spiritual connection between my horses and me, my writing and me, and my horses and my writing.

Writing about my sensory experiences as I relate to the horses, enables me to share with others the connection that makes me want to jump out of bed at 5:30 in the morning, and seize the day. It??s a cleansing process for me and hopefully educates and inspires those who read what I write.

When I go into sensory overload, I have a need to write what I see, feel, and smell to make room for more ideas. Writing energizes me. The writing process and its inherent rituals, helps me to organize my thoughts and get in touch with my feelings on much deeper levels. I become more cognizant and sensitive to both my surroundings and other people.

Writers get their inspiration from many sources. Hemmingway loved the sea. Shakespeare was inspired by the absurdity of life. J.K. Rowlings is a single Mom who enjoys the magic of children. Emeril Lagasse is turned on by food and cooking. I love horses and the environment. All writers have a connection to something about which they are passionate. We all have a connection to one another.

Even the subject matter authors write about, such as the sea, life with all its twists and turns, the magic of a child??s world, preparing and cooking food, and horses and the environment; are all interconnected in a spiritual way. My inspiration is gleaned from many areas of life, including the writers mentioned here.

But, the things that go better together than anything else is my trusty rubber-grip, ballpoint pen and yellow legal pad; preceded by an invigorating gallop across the countryside. That is my spiritual connection.

Copyright © 2005 by Pamela Beers. All rights reserved.

Pamela Beers is a freelance writer, educator, and horse trainer. We like the mountains and the countryside. His Dad and step-mother lived near Lee, NH. When we visited once, his step-mother and I went driving about and I took pictures of the scenery. It was winter and I wanted to get some wintery pictures. I then made this drawing of it using scratchboard techniques.

I sent all my friends and family a card with this drawing on it.

Art Exhibit News

??Interpretations??
October 15 ??
