I don't know where the time has gone but I have been so busy. I have started painting larger and as you probably know it is much more time consuming than a 6x6 inch daily painting. I haven't even had time to do my studies. I cannot complain because many great opportunities have come my way this past year and I am looking forward to 2013. I am concentrating on painting my ladies as I call them and really enjoying my self because they give me so much joy to paint. I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas or whatever holiday you choose to celebrate and are able to be with loved ones in the comfort of a warm home. I am honored to now be represented by The Atelier Gallery, look for my paintings there after Sept 1st. I have been really busy. In April I attended a two week workshop with artist Milt Kobayashi at the Scottsdale Artists School in Scottsdale, Az. It has been a dream of mine to study with Milt and I plan on going back in 2013. Finally I have found my joy in painting figures my way, a little quirky and whimsical and always to tell a story. I also went to Jacksonville, Fl in April for the Women Painters Of The Southeast annual show, where I was also honored with a signature membership. Fabulous women painters from the southeastern United States came together to showcase their work and support one another. I also participated in the first Driggs Idaho Plein Air festival where I spent 10 days painting and enjoying the scenery and weather with friends and other painters from the area. Hello everyone, I can't believe I haven't posted since Dec.! I have been painting like a madwoman everyday and painting large which is something new for me. This piece is wet and still on my easel with a lot of touch ups needed. I love to take photos of a painting before it is finished, it helps me see what I need to work on. I think this is the year of large figurative and portraiture for me. Looking forward to a couple of figurative workshops coming up.I have a huge 30 x 40 painting I am also working on.It is so freeing to paint large. I have also been accepted into the Women Painters Of The South (WPSE) juried show at the Corse Gallery and Atelier in Jacksonville, Fl. The show opens April 28th. In keeping with the Barbie Doll theme I thought the original Blonde Barbie should have her place in this series. It is difficult for me to translate a toy with a face to canvas and have it look like a toy. The color palette helps with vibrant choices. I am having a lot of fun painting these little gems for whimsy. My painting is a painting of the Barbie Doll that I once had, not from life but as I remember her. I gave Barbie away to another little girl to enjoy many years ago. I remember my summers with Nancy Ward. We were Barbie fiends. We took them everywhere. At the swimming pool they would lay out on washcloths for towels, they rode around in comfort right in our bicycle baskets. We used to design and make all of their clothes. Nancy and I would go to the local mercantile to buy fabric. They sold us a strip of fabric about 6 inches deep and 36 inches wide for 5 cents! My dad took me to the store before school started one day to buy Barbie so I would be able to take her to school with me. I will always love you Barbie and I miss you too!

I went in search of something to paint the other day and passed by an open gate down town. What I spied inside was amazing! It looked like a movie set. Old buildings, a train car, a cafe,plants, fountains etc. Of course I had to stop and paint it! The owner, Doug Smith happened by to look at what I was painting and told me it is a place they rent out for events, such as parties, receptions, corporate events. It is called The Lumber Yard just off Cleveland St in Huntsville, Al. I am going back again to paint more. I painted in our historic cemetery last Saturday. The beautiful old headstones and monuments have something that can't be reproduced today. The patina, the designs so beautiful showing how much the families loved ones meant to those left behind. Last fall I had the privilege to take a workshop from Tim Horn (a fabulous California artist). The workshop was at the Sandy Springs Art School. Tim was a wonderful instructor and I learned so much. One of the participants of the workshop owned this corvette and her husband brought it for us to paint. I wish I could have purchased Tim's demo but it wasn't in the cards. This is my own version of the car. This painting will be featured in an ad in American Art Collector Magazine where I am included with a wonderful group called Contemporary Fine Art International.
