We’re thrilled to welcome Le Sauci, a carp lake close to Calais, to the Angling Lines family for 2026 onwards.

Located in the Marne region on the edge of the Argonne Forest, Le Sauci is a well kept 12-acre carp lake approximately 3hr 30mins from the port of Calais, offering a great mix of quality fishing and angler comfort. With carp to over 61lb, spacious double swims and newly installed lodges for 2026, it’s a venue we’re really pleased to be able to offer our anglers.

The Lake & Stock

The owners, Thierry and Amandine, have clearly put a lot of thought and care into both the fishery and the facilities. Everything feels very well laid out and angler friendly. Surrounded by mature trees and lush greenery, the lake has plenty of character with sheltered bays, open water and an old riverbed running through the centre which now acts as a natural feeding area for the carp. The lake was originally dug in the early 1990s and features depths ranging from around 0.8m to 2.2m, averaging roughly 1.5m throughout. The lakebed is mainly clay.

In terms of stock, the lake already held a good head of carp before the current owners took over. In late 2024, they introduced a further 260 carp including fish to over 44lb, helping create a very healthy stock with plenty of long-term potential. There are also grass carp and pike present.

Swim Options

You can either prebook swims individually or hire the lake exclusively for a group of up to 8 anglers. There are 4 spacious double swims, two are traditional bivvy swims with access to a shared facilities block, while swims 1 and 4 each come with their own private lodge overlooking the lake.

All swims include a four-outlet power supply, a picnic table, barbecue and parking directly behind the swim.

The lodge swims are a real standout feature at Le Sauci, newly installed for 2026, offering a really comfortable setup for anglers wanting a few extra home comforts while still fishing just a few steps from their rods. Each includes two bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, a living area looking out onto the lake, two shower rooms, a separate toilet, heating and air conditioning. The lodges can accommodate up to six people in total (including a maximum of 2 anglers), making them ideal for couples, families or mixed groups where not everyone is fishing.

Lodge swim at Le Sauci

For anglers fishing the bivvy swims, there’s also a modern shared facilities block with shower, toilet, kitchenette, fridges with freezer compartments, seating area and heating. It’s a great balance between proper carp fishing and a few welcome comforts during a week on the bank. The parking area behind swims 2 and 3 is also large enough to accommodate campervans and caravans.

Final Thoughts on This Carp Lake Close to Calais

You’ve got everything you need close by for an easy, comfortable week in France. Shops and supermarkets are only about 10 minutes away, and you can even order your bait directly from the lake before you travel.

All in all, we’re really pleased to welcome Le Sauci into the Angling Lines portfolio. It has that lovely mix of peace, comfort and proper carp fishing, and we think it’s going to be a hit with anyone looking for a relaxed French venue within easy reach of Calais.

Golden Carp Lake

This lakeside wooden cabin provides a comfortable stay for up to 4 people with a double and twin bedroom. You have your own private swim just outside and it is BIG carp fishing here with a current lake record at over 70lb! It isn’t a runs water by any means but the carp that reside here will satisfy the most serious of anglers.

You also have your own private above ground swimming pool just to the side of the lodge. The accommodation’s location at one end of the lake allows for a very peaceful and secluded feeling.

Our website features an outstanding collection of carp lakes in France, and each one is a credit to the dedicated people who run them. With this in mind, we spoke with Nigel at Souvenirs and asked him a few questions to learn more about his journey.

1. When did you discover carp fishing and how did you come to be here at the lake?

I started Carp fishing in the late 2000s (noughties?) I bought Souvenirs after moving to France specifically to find a good lake to buy in NE France within 3 hours of Calais.

Meet Nigel, owner of Souvenirs

2. What’s the best and worst part of being the owner?

Best for me is enjoying the company of positive anglers who recognise the venue as one for the future. Souvenirs is blossoming and as the Carp mature the weight gains are becoming seriously impressive. Some of our Euro Aqua stock has put on 20lbs in just over 2 years.

The worst part is dealing with dead fish. Fortunately not a frequent occurance, but one that puts a dampner on your mood for a few days for sure.

3. What would you say is the best feature of your lake?

The Carp! We have some stunning dark commons and beautifully plated mirrors. They are the main reason for many of our regulars to keep coming back.

Carp lakes in France – Souvenirs

4. When people arrive is there anything they are surprised by?

The size of the lake. For some reason, almost everyone says it is bigger than they thought.

5. What is the most common mistake you see anglers make at your lake?

Putting in too much bait when they set up on day one. Best to start off trying for a bite. Baiting little and often until you are happy with your chosen spots. The use of boats and bait boats greatly helps in locating active feeding spots.

6. Finally, what is the one most important piece of advice you’d give to anglers visiting your lake soon?

Be patient! Stick to what you do well back home regarding tactics, rigs and bait.

Carp Lakes in France – Souvenirs

Souvenirs is a peaceful 10-acre gravel pit, perfect for the thinking angler who enjoys a more natural lake. The lake is split into two banks, North and Woods, each with its own entrance and access track. With 11 well spaced swims across the two banks, reserved exclusively for groups of up to eight anglers, it offers a relaxed, sociable atmosphere without ever feeling crowded.

The carp stock is impressive and varied, with approximately 290 beautiful carp to over 58lb, including more than 72 from the famous Euro Aqua strain.

It’s just 2 hours 45 minutes from Calais with a straightforward drive down the A26. With great fish and easy access from the port, Souvenirs offers the perfect carp fishing experience for anyone visiting northern France.

You’ve booked the perfect holiday – but will you get there?

I can’t begin to tell you how much I hate this topic! But once again I feel it really necessary to get this message out there.

This is not a sales tactic and I have to admit I have an inherent dislike of insurance companies. I pay a fortune out in my premiums year after year and really never seem to have to claim. So on my balance books, insurance companies simply win out every time. However, having seen how many problems can occur, I’m hastily ‘touching wood’, knowing I should be grateful I have not had to claim.

Action at Molyneux

But, and this is an enormous…BUT, my experience in this business has taught me that Insurance is important and should be high on the list of necessity before even a new bait boat or set of rods. Time after time I see instances where job losses, illness or even worse causes havoc and all at a time when people really could do without the stress and can least afford it.

The main parts regarding holiday insurance cover are as follows. So get your insurance and make sure the policy gives your group the cover it needs.

Cancellation of the holiday in certain circumstances

Medical expenses and repatriation if necessary

Cover for tackle and theft (optional)

Cover for additional costs if a disaster should happen.

Insurance can cover all these things so it needs to be taken around the time you book & not just before you are due to travel. The preconception that insurance is just in case you have medical expenses abroad is very flawed. The preconception that a problem rarely occurs and it will probably all be alright is also seriously flawed. I can cite countless instances where this belief has caused huge problems. Usually and very sadly when someone loses their job or becomes seriously ill and the holiday cannot be taken. The problem is not just for the individual concerned but the knock on effect for the whole group can be disastrous…

The problem is when you pay your deposit and reserve a holiday you enter into a contract. It means that if you default on taking the trip you may lose your deposits paid. We can’t simply say to a lake they won’t get paid because someone in the group fell ill etc.

Insurance is for unforeseen circumstances, it is important and when people book particularly in groups, a lot is taken on trust by the organiser, and so often it can all fall down.

Time and time again I see people get caught out… So don’t let it happen to you. You can get insurance anywhere now, even the main supermarket but here is a link to the company we deal with if you want to take a look.

Be insured and assured of a great trip!

Our website features an outstanding collection of carp lakes in France, and each one is a credit to the dedicated people who run them. With this in mind, we spoke with Matt at Lakeview and asked him a few questions to learn more about his journey.

1. When did you discover carp fishing and how did you come to be here at the lake?

I’ve always enjoyed coarse fishing but hadn’t really tried carp fishing until about 20 years ago. I went on a week-long carp break in France. It was early in the year, I had no gear, but borrowed what I needed and had an amazing week. The weather was fantastic and I caught a few fish, that were largely PB’s for me even if they were only upper teens and 20’s.

Back then, I had two young kids and was trying to balance my love of fishing with family life. I started looking for lakes where the family could enjoy themselves too – swimming, sunbathing, playing darts and pool, exploring. In general though, they were few and far between and often extremely expensive. I told myself I could do better and committed to finding something that would allow holidaymakers to enjoy both fishing and a proper French holiday, with something for everyone.

Meet Matt, owner of Lakeview

2. What’s the best and worst part of being the owner?

The best part is hearing people have broken their PB’s, that they’ve had an amazing holiday, that everything is perfect for them and well thought out. We put a lot of work into anticipating what people might need. The worst part is when fishing proves tricky. No matter how skilled you are, sometimes the fishing can be a real challenge.

3. What would you say is the best feature of your lake?

First and foremost, it’s just a really pretty lake. It’s about 1.5 acres, so not huge but it’s circular and accessible, so simple to fish, including stalking. I focus on fish that are unusual and have distinctive patterns or colours, fish that I’d catch and think that’s a great looking fish.

4. When people arrive is there anything they are surprised by?

How peaceful and idyllic the location is. Despite being close to some large towns and not too far from a couple of cities, the house and lake are very rural, really quiet. Wildlife is everywhere, and it’s a place where you can really switch off. Guests often spot birds and animals they wouldn’t usually see – some quite rare.

5. What is the most common mistake you see anglers make at your lake?

Probably overfeeding and not experimenting with baits and flavours. Fishy/meaty baits tend to work best, but sometimes something different works a treat. Some of the largest fish have been caught on a solitary worm, under a tree, close to the bank.

6. Finally, what is the one most important piece of advice you’d give to anglers visiting your lake soon?

Fish to the features. There are old tree roots in one area that carp love rolling over, and beds of iris where you’ll often see them cruising and circling. The margins are well worth exploring too. People often plump for the deep water or the deep silt but there’s much more to the lake, have a stalk under the trees – it often pays off.

A catch from Lakeview

Carp lakes in France – Lakeview

Set in the peaceful Charente countryside, Lakeview offers complete privacy, beautiful surroundings and abundant wildlife for both anglers and families looking to unwind. The charming farm house accommodates up to 8 and includes a superb outdoor area with an above-ground pool, games room and extensive gardens, making it the perfect blend of carp fishing and a relaxed family holiday.

The 1.3 acre lake is home to carp to over 55lb and is suited to a maximum of 2 anglers. A flat, grassy island reached by a short walkway holds the main double swim, while the dam wall and quiet margins offer extra opportunities for those who enjoy exploring different spots. It’s a calm, unhurried place to fish while the rest of the family makes the most of everything the venue has to offer.

Every year hundreds of British anglers invade France in search of those monster carp. With literally hundreds of lakes to choose from, it seems that more and more Brits are traveling to France in the hope of smashing their PB’s. A week seems to be the average length of time that an angler would spend at a lake in France, but this is usually a lot longer session that they are used to …. so I hope the following may help a few of you out if you are going to France for the first time.

.

The first thing that you should do is to make a list. I know that this may seem a bit anal retentive, but make that list! It could be the difference between a great week and a cxxp week! I have friends who have arrived at their chosen lake to discover they had forgotten rods, reels, pods, bait, food and alarms (Steve) and this can totally ruin the trip, putting you in a negative mood from the start … and that is not going to help your fishing!

This may look like a huge list, but on a self-drive trip these are essential items and it is best to check them off the list so that nothing is forgotten.

Tackle

I tend to fish smaller lakes in France so my tackle requirements may differ from yours. If you are fishing one of the larger lakes remember it’s like England, use the tackle most suited the water that you are fishing.

Rods Give yourself every chance of landing a big fish, after all that is why you are in France. It is advisable to take 2.75tc rods and stronger, but of course the choice is yours.

Reels If everything goes right the week you are there, you may be lucky enough having multiple catches of big fish, so strong reliable reels are the order of the day. You don’t want to hand line a whacker in because your reels break.

Alarms Check that they work before you leave and I usually put a new set of batteries in them … that way I know that they will last the trip.

End tackle Take as much as you can because you may have trouble finding a tackle shop , and if you do they probably will not have the items you require. Things such as leads, PVA, hooks, mainline and hooklink materials are hard to come by, so take as much spare tackle as you can. You don’t want to find that miracle method that catches stacks of fish and then run out of the main components!

Bivvies I normally fish 24-hour sessions in Blighty, so an umbrella with storm sides is about all I use , but after trying that in France for a week I decided that I needed the room for all of the extra tackle that I had, so I changed to a two man bivvy. This made my weeks stay a lot more comfortable and because I was only using it a couple of times a year, it should last quite a long time (fingers crossed) so I should get my monies worth out of it.

And the rest… Take all of the other pieces that you require, to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Quite a few anglers find a week a very long time to fish, so anything that you take to make your stay more enjoyable can only help you to fish better. One of the pieces of kit that you may pray you had taken is mosquito repellent …. I don’t know if it is just in France, but their mosquito’s are twice the size of the ones in England and boy do they bite! There are a few companies who supply devices that repel these little monsters … you have been warned!

Bait

The general advice is to take what you can afford and can fit in … I can only tell you what I normally take.

Is there a freezer on-site? Find out if there are any facilities to keep your bollies frozen, because if there isn’t you may have to consider taking ready mades or air drying your fresh bait before you travel. Many a good holiday has been spoilt because bait has gone off – you lose confidence in it and you end up fishing half-heartedly (not good!)

How much should I take? I like to have at least 10 kilo’s of bollies in at least two sizes (10/12 mm) and (18/24 mm) – the mix is up to you.

What should I use? Use the boilies you are confident in, like you do in England. Where I can, I take matching pop-ups, bottom baits and bait glug. I ‘m a bit of a bait fiend, so I have an assortment of pop-ups from various companies that I take just in case! I would take as much particle bait i.e. pellets, groundbait, method mix, seeds, pulses and nuts as you can fit in your car. Alternatively, many lakes, for example Nautica, stock ranges of bait and pellet at the lake, just ask.

You don’t have to use it all but if the fish are ‘having it’ it is better to have spare than run out half way through the week. Look at feedback, find out what has been working but also what’s most popular. Something different to all the other anglers may be the answer, who knows?

Essentials

Clothing The weather in France is unpredictable just like in England. Plenty of spare clothes are required in case of downpours. You never know you may have to get in the water for that trophy shot … you know because it is too heavy to lift out of the water (Oh please God!!!!). Temperatures can change dramatically, so be prepared.

Washing kit A week is a long time without a wash and you don’t want to be turned away by British customs on your return because you may be a health hazard …. so don’t forget the kit and a towel or two.

Cooking equipment Take what you normally would in the UK but remember you are there for a week, so you may need more cutlery. Find out if there is somewhere to wash dirty dishes – if not take a bowl and washing up equipment. I have experienced food poisoning in France, probably due to unhygienic pots and pans, and it was not a pretty sight or smell.

Food

Buy it in France I tend to purchase all of my food in France , mainly because there is not enough room for a bar of chocolate in my car after everything else is in, but also because it is cheaper than in England.

Push the boat out I like to get the essential items for survival whilst fishing – things like wine, beer, crisps and of course more wine. Seriously, ‘a well fed man is a happy man’ & ‘happy men fish better’ so don’t just settle for snacks, try to have some proper food, even if is only to soak up the beer!

Travelling Requirements

On the right It may the first time that you have driven abroad so remember to drive on the right hand side of the road. This can be quite daunting but you soon get used to it.

Headlight converter Whilst driving on the right your headlights will be shining directly at oncoming cars, so a stick -on kit bought from most car accessory shops will stop you from being a target of abuse from dazzled French drivers.

Warning triangle You are required to carry a warning triangle in case of breakdown.

GB sticker This must be displayed at all times.

Insurance Your car insurance may not be valid in France, so call well beforehand to find out, and if it isn’t covered, a small fee may be charged to amend the policy accordingly.

Car breakdown cover This may seem like a luxury but I assure you it is an essential item. I have had friends breakdown in France without cover and they have been charged hundreds of pounds to fix their car, when a small outlay for insurance would have saved not only a lot of money but also time. If you intend to travel to Europe more than once a year, you may benefit from annual cover.

Personal Health Insurance Lastly in this section is travel insurance. Again I would advise this, and companies such as Angling Lines will be able to help. Also a quick visit to your local Post Office allows you to get an E111 medical cover leaflet (free of charge) and this will entitle you to some limited medical cover in France.

Extras

Lastly just a couple of items that you will have thought of … but here is a quick reminder;

Camera Don’t forget camera and spare films (I forgot mine on a recent trip and had to put a PB Koi and Mirror back in the water without recording it for prosperity so check it off that list). Take spare batteries for the camera, alarms and lighting. Some of the smaller French villages only have a small general store and do not have a large selection of batteries.

First aid kit This last item I feel is very important. A first aid kit is essential. It does not have to be as well stocked as a doctors bag, but should have plasters, bandages, headache tablets, antiseptic cream and in my case hangover cure!

Well I hope that this has helped … even if only a little. A trip to France may take a lot of planning, but trust me it is worth it. If your trip runs smoothly, and you end up slipping your net under a fish the size of a small dog, you will want to do it every year. So take some time to organise everything properly.

Tight lines!

If you’re currently planning a French carp fishing trip, have a look at the Q&A below for choosing the right venue…

There are only 2 of us… Can we book a lake exclusive?

Yes, you certainly can. Exclusive lakes come in all sizes but most exclusively available lakes are around 3 to 5 acres, and take 4/5 anglers with a price to match. But it’s important to note that some small exclusive lakes actually have tiered pricing available when there are fewer anglers in the booking. So an exclusive venue may not necessarily be out of price reach if there are only 2 or 3 persons fishing. Lakes like Jonchery 7 and Jonchery 8 are very reasonably priced for just two or three anglers.

How much of an advantage is having a lake to yourself?

There are in fact pro’s and cons.

Let’s start with the seemingly obvious pro’s… Exclusivity gives your group complete control to decide how it’s fished and enables an immense amount of flexibility. This is really beneficial so you can maximise your options without worrying about other anglers who are not in your group. You can for instance, trickle feed or rest swims to move onto later or at night or follow the carp around if they are on the move. It enables you to stalk around a lake without treading on other anglers toes. For these reasons too it can be more relaxing and less like a competition.

The cons… Some lakes (Blue Lake and Laroussi among them) can benefit from having an even distribution of anglers all around the lake. Remember carp will often move away from pressure and if you are the only anglers on a normally busy water, you may have to work harder or move to get your results.

Do I have the right gear for a French carp fishing trip?

Fishing in most French lakes is no different to fishing over here in Blighty. Except the carp are usually much bigger, the weather is generally better and you tend to catch more prolifically. You don’t suddenly need big pit reels etc to fish any of the lakes unless they are huge and you are fishing at 300 meters!

However, the lakes do take fish safety very seriously and usually demand that you use at least a 42” landing net and a large & high standard of unhooking mat. 15lb min breaking strain line also appears to be the norm. So always check out the lake rules to make sure you’re okay and if you are any item of tackle missing, look to see if the lake have them on site or hire them. Don’t forget all the owners will happily discuss tackle with you and answer your specific questions.

If you need to pick up some bits and pieces before you travel then check out Dangler, the anglers’ marketplace – carp fishing tackle. It’s the Ebay of the fishing industry, perfect for finding new or used fishing equipment.

Mas Bas also offers full tackle hire on site

How do I choose a venue?

There are so many options available so if you want to get a quick start then follow these simple steps.

Key aspects to look at when choosing a venue

Size of carp Ask yourself realistically what size would you be happy to catch? Emeraude and Old Oaks are lakes with seriously BIG carp in them, but in turn they are trickier to catch.

No of Runs you can reasonably expect – Some waters can be hard and a blank could happen but some are genuinely classed by us as runs waters. There are many in between. So find the right balance. The feedback will tell you very clearly how well lakes fish, it’s accurate and honest! Lakes like Vincons and Cailleaux make it very difficult to blank.

Look at your own experience and what your objectives are from the holiday. It’s no good being a novice and choosing a hard water if you really want plenty of action. If you are a relatively in experienced angler, choose a lake where there is a good bailiff who can offer advice or a water which shows very good catch rates. Travelling with friends who can give you some support is also a great idea. You invest a lot in a holiday so make sure you give yourself the best chance of a successful trip. Lakes such as Lillypool and Molyneux have well recommended and respected bailiffs who are happy to give you advice.

Wally, bailiff at Molyneux carp lake

Non Anglers If you are taking non anglers or need accommodation – ensure that the accommodation/facilities detailed on the website are an adequate standard for the fussiest of the people going. Your holiday can be ruined if you ‘over sell’ the accommodation and your non angler is unhappy all week because they were expecting 4* accommodation in a 2* mobile home! We have some absolutely cracking venues with great accommodation, such as Mas Bas, Golden Oak and Mystique. All of our venues show local tourist attractions and points of interests on the map – so check them out!

Travelling Distance One of the most subjective decisions you can make. We advise on the mileage and drive time to each of our venues. However for me, it’s more important to get the lake right than worry about travelling an extra hour or so. You will be there all week so enjoying your lake is paramount. If that lake happens to be further away you need to look at the added costs of the fuel and tolls. Many of our lakes that are further away tend to be a little cheaper anyway to balance this out, but you do need to consider the driver. There are very cheap options though that can counter distance too. B&B’s and hotels in France are very cheap and leaving on a Friday and staying halfway over night can actually improve your holiday, and take all the stress out of the journey. (We will happily recommend places to stay depending how far your journey is … so just ask) Lakes like Seigneurie and Beaurepaire are under three hours to Calais.

Additional Help

Whilst we try to give you all the information you’ll ever need to make your decision on the website, you can always ring for advice, we visit the lakes & we know what they are like and often a quick chat will help you pinpoint your best option. We won’t sit on the fence and our advice is honest.

Search for your perfect venue here – Carp Fishing in France

The post Planning A Carp Fishing Trip – Important Questions Answered first appeared on Angling Lines Blog.

We get it. Here are ten of our small exclusive carp lakes in France that are perfect for just 2 or 3 anglers to share exclusively;

Jonchery 7

This 5 acre lake is incredibly peaceful, set close to the dam wall of the Lac d’Orient. This is one of the best exclusive carp lakes in France for runs and lots of them! The large stock of carp goes to over 60lb.

You have one large grassy swim which has good vehicle access. You’ll have complete use of the lake to yourselves but you share the facilities – kitchen, dining area, shower & toilets – with the other lake on the complex, Jonchery. There’s also a great optional food package available. This venue is ideal for 2 anglers but can fit 3 at a push.

What’s more, because the owners are fish farmers, the carp have been hand-picked and some of the scale patterns on the mirrors together with some beautiful linears, makes for memorable fishing.

“We had 53 carp in total. Brilliant fishery, brilliant bailiff and family, they cant do enough for you, will always put you on the spots, give you the best advice on rigs and baits. Brilliant venue for runs, some very big lumps to be had if your lucky enough, very peaceful, tranquil and relaxing until your buzzers rip off.” – Ritchie Bywaters

For more information on Jonchery #7 follow the link – Carp Fishing Lakes in France

Jonchery 7

Jonchery 8

Following the success of Jonchery #7 featured above, the Bachelier family set out to create a similar small lake exclusive venue again on the same complex. This time however, they would aim to stock a higher average weight and slightly less carp – the end result being slightly less of a runs water but a big fish water.

This 3 acre lake holds carp to over 60lb and is ideal for up to 3 anglers, all fishing from one very gravelled large swim. On site you will find good facilities, food packages and bait available.

Find out more about Jonchery 8 here – Carp fishing in France

Linstant

Linstant is ideal for up to 2 anglers, offering a picturesque, mature lake full of features. The main double swim includes two pods, providing a comfortable bivvy alternative with power points and lighting.

The fishing is relatively easy, with carp reaching just over 44lb. This venue promises a relaxing week of fishing in tranquil and comfortable surroundings.

“The hosts were amazing! We will definitely be returning. It’s just so peaceful and beautiful. The fish are so well looked after, you can see they actually care about their business which is nice.” – Liam Couper

Eau De Vie South

A spring fed 2-acre lake, with mature surroundings and a good stock of carp to over 50lb, Eau De Vie South will suit up to 3 anglers wanting a small lake exclusive with excellent lakeside facilities.

The lakeside railway carriage accommodation is included in the hire of the lake.
Heart Lake

Heart Lake is the perfect place for groups of 2/3 anglers that want to enjoy quality fishing with very good facilities, or alternatively those looking to combine carp fishing with a family holiday.

The lake and charming cottage (sleeping up to 6) is private to you for the week. You’ll find enough big carp to keep serious anglers happy, with a lake record currently sitting at 53lb and a very healthy population at over 30lb.

2hr45 from port of St Malo, 3hr25 from Caen & 5hr45 from Calais.

“We absolutely loved it at Heart Lake. I’ve fished all over the world and it’s actually quite hard to find somewhere that has a true sense of privacy, but Heart Lake has it. Hosts Lionel and Veronique are really superb and offer the perfect balance between being there if you need them, or leaving you alone and private, if that’s what you want too. Lionel is also a very experienced carp angler and well worth listening to. We are already trying to make arrangements to go back, and you can’t say more than that.” – Pete Castle

Slightly different to the lakes featured above, 8 acre Deux Iles is designed for 4 anglers BUT the layout is quite unique and so offers pairs of anglers a quality fishing experience. There are just two islands on this lake, both with a cabin and enough room to comfortably accommodate 2 anglers. Each island is hired out individually and has fishing rights over half the lake.

The venue is very rural, with no sounds of traffic or disturbance. It is situated just a 2hr 45 drive from Calais and 1hr 30 from Le Havre. The total number of carp in the lake is around one hundred and fifty, with the lake record into the mid 50´s now. There are also around 15 koi carp in the lake, a sturgeon, a few zander, pike and perch too.

“An excellent weeks fishing at a truly beautiful venue. 32 runs in total with 25 fish landed. Bruno is a top bloke. There when you need him but left alone when you don’t, so a perfect host. The lodge was a real luxury and with 3 nights of heavy rain much appreciated. Loads of room and a fridge.

Our website features an outstanding collection of carp lakes in France, and each one is a credit to the dedicated people who run them. With this in mind, we spoke with Lionel and Véronique at Heart Lake, asking them a few questions to learn more about their journey.

1. When did you discover carp fishing and how did you come to be here at the lake?

Lionel – I discovered carp fishing with my grandfather. We spent a lot of time outdoors together and that is where my love for fishing began. Later a friend introduced me to this lake and everything started from there.

2. What’s the best and worst part of being the owner?

The best part is the relationship with our guests and the friendships that develop over time.
The hardest part is the constant worry that everything runs perfectly during each angler’s stay.

Meet Lionel & Véronique

3. What would you say is the best feature of your lake?

The lake is ideal for families. It sits in a peaceful area away from noise with only the sound of singing frogs in the evenings. Of course the fish must be mentioned as well because the stock is strong and healthy!

4. When people arrive is there anything they are surprised by?

Most visitors are pleasantly surprised by how clean and well maintained the venue is along with the level of service and the welcome they receive from the moment they arrive.

Carp lakes in France – Heart Lake

5. What is the most common mistake you see anglers make at your lake?

The most common mistake anglers make is thinking that if they don’t have a bait boat they will catch fewer fish.

6. Finally, what is the one most important piece of advice you’d give to anglers visiting your lake soon?

Do not hesitate to contact us before your trip. We are happy to help with tactics and tackle and we can also supply boilies and seeds directly at the lake.

We have set up a simple ordering system so anglers avoid any problems with items being stopped at customs.

Heart Lake combines quality carp fishing with relaxed lakeside comfort, ideal for families or small groups. A cottage 30 metres from the water sleeps six and behind the main swim sits a spacious decked area with a dining area and BBQ.

There is something special about having a carp lake all to yourself. Private fishing lakes in France with accommodation offer peace, privacy and the chance to truly switch off. Below are some of our favourite exclusive accommodation venues for your next memorable trip.

1. Maniere

Maniere is a beautiful 5 acre spring fed lake set in the heart of the Charente countryside. This venue is suitable for up to four anglers and comes with modern accommodation. The lake holds an impressive stock of carp, with many over 40lb and a top weight reaching beyond 62lb.

The accommodation is comfortable, well equipped and set around 30 metres from the water’s edge. This provides a peaceful place to unwind between sessions. Inside are two twin bedrooms, a practical kitchen and a cosy living area.

Maniere is also fantastic for families thanks to its charming location. The venue sits in a large garden, with the added bonus of the natural swimming pond complete with kayaks. A perfect all-round retreat set within 10 acres of well maintained land.

2. Ragon

Ragon is a well established carp venue set within quiet open countryside. The 10 acre lake is well stocked and lends itself perfectly to relaxed group fishing trips. Particularly when the social side is just as important as the fishing.

The venue comfortably caters for up to five anglers with a centrally positioned lakeside cabin that becomes the natural hub of the week. Its large veranda is ideal for shared meals and evening BBQs. The simple but well placed cabin allows you to stay warm, dry and close to the water with the ability to fish through the night with ease.

The lake contains a hand selected mix of mirrors, commons and koi with a good head of 40lb and 50lb+ carp. Under the ownership of experienced fishery manager Chris Lafaille, the lake has been developed with quality carp fishing firmly at its core.

6. Heart Lake

Heart Lake is an exclusive carp fishing venue set in a quiet rural location, with a newly renovated lakeside lodge positioned just a short distance from the water’s edge. The lake holds a healthy stock of carp with many fish over 30lb and reaching up to 53lb+, offering a good balance of action and size.

The recently renovated lodge sleeps up to six guests and features two bedrooms, an open plan living and dining space and a well equipped kitchen. There’s also a wood-burning stove for the cooler months. A large decking area sits directly behind the main swim, allowing anglers to fish comfortably.

With beaches under an hour away and plenty for children to enjoy on site, Heart Lake is a great option for mixed groups and family holidays. Just read the many 5* reviews to see how popular this venue is with our anglers.
