I’ve had two blogs in the past. The first one I used as promotion for my illustration, mainly posting art-based prompts. The second served more as a news posting vehicle for my art. This year I am starting fresh. This is my second year as a self-employed artist and illustrator and I want to soar.

But let me back up before I go further and take a moment to introduce myself. I'm Cody, an artist and illustrator based in mid-Missouri. I have a passion for creating, crafting and designing artwork, illustration, prints, patterns and hand lettering for products and exhibition. For most of my career I worked as an in-house Graphic Designer and Illustrator and did freelancing on the side. The last four years of my corporate career I worked as an Art Buyer. 2020 Word of the Year

Which brings me back to my want of soaring and my 2020 word for the year: “Soar.” It pretty much sums up everything I want to do with regards to my goals for this year. These goals include building an audience for my work, creating a large body of artwork to send to potential partners, and ultimately making a sustainable income as a surface pattern designer, illustrator and artist. 

My last two blogs were all about my art and I’ve known for quite a while that they lacked connection. I’m often described as quiet and introverted. I shy away from social media. Most of the time I have to force myself to interact and post, but I know that if I want to reach my goals, I need to connect. I want to connect. It’s a very human thing, connection, but for me it’s often scary and uncomfortable. I’m like the perpetual wallflower and I’m tired of being afraid.

What It’s All About

So, I’m going to forge ahead and post 1–2 times a month on my most passionate interests: art and design, plants and gardening, health, environmental sustainability, productivity and organization, know-how for the creative and lastly inspiration. My hope is by the end of the year I have an active community of inquisitive readers. 

I want you to come away from my posts in at least one of these ways:

• inspired because what you read spoke to you in some way 

• learning or thinking of something differently

• how to create or the knowledge to implement or organize a process

• a sense of advocacy to make changes for the better in your life and the lives of others

• curious with a thirst for knowing more about a topic
