I just went to tour an amazing lighting center in Chicago (EESCO which is a division of WESCO the company I work for) and they talked about they had a very large focus on green lighting by using LEDs and other light fixtures. Data center managers and facilities don’t really talk a whole lot about lighting and I think it’s because it’s not considered critical to their environment (correct me if i’m wrong here)  however there have been some big technical advances that might be worth looking into. A couple of situations that I have come across recently is trying to fix a light fixture in a gordon grid, it’s a special size and it can be challenging to find a fixture that is LED so it saves you money. Anyway, anytime I learn something new it usually inspires new comics….so…as usual Kip and Gary take this “green lighting” thing to a new level…Click here to see the captions already submitted and a chance to submit your own! 

I was growing up in a unique time where I grew up with a cell phone in my college years but not in junior high…meaning I still remember what it’s like to have an address book of numbers stored in your head.  And over the years my brain just decided to give up memorizing all those numbers and rely heavily on my cell phone to remember them for me. Which would be okay….until your phone dies and you have to call someone in an emergency. Or in my case someone asks me for my emergency contact or my husband’s phone number and I have to stop for a second and check my phone which is a little embarrassing. I know he is speed dial 1 but that doesn’t really help me in this situation. So what to do….? It seems like such a waste of precious memory to remember all those numbers when your phone can easily do it for you….but on the other hand are we relying too much on technology to assist us in simple everyday tasks???

Since last week was April showers, I thought it was only natural to have May Flowers…a little off topic but I attended Afcom last week and to my surprise I was actually recognized as “the data center cartoonist” it was probably the coolest thing ever!!! Well, actually the real story would go something like this…I was introducing myself and then I would mention my little comics and people would be like, “no way! That’s you!!!” either way it was still a very cool experience and I just wanted to take a minute to thank everyone out there following my blog and the caption contest on data center knowledge, and please don’t be shy when submitting your caption. People always tell me how they don’t think they’re funny, and honestly those are usually the best captions that are submitted. So enjoy this weeks comic and I will see you next week for the voting!

So the newest craze on youtube is called the “Harlem Shake” and I just love it! If you haven’t seen it yet, you soon will, it’s becoming as popular as the “plank”. Anyway, the Harlem shake is basically when a single person starts dancing all by themselves with a mask or helmet over there head and then as soon as the base drops the entire room starts going crazy. Well, I had to have Kip and Gary par take in the fun and what better place than the tape storage room! So have you ever noticed how incredibly quite the elevator always is??? Why doesn’t anybody talk? You could be mid conversation and then as soon as you enter the elevator…SILENCE…it’s just one of those things I guess I will never understand…Check out my video explaining one of the more unforgettable moments in an elevator….
