Science is not superior that Arts

Bismillah.

- CGPA >3.5
- Fluent to speak and write in English
- Know how to manage data using SPSS
- Have experience with animal handling
- Able to do a literature review and write a scientific paper

- Salary maximum RM1500 including EPF.

Sometimes I encountered with job advertisement as above.
It is disappointing to know that, with that kind of quality and skills they required, they only willing to pay a peanut.

That was my conversation with a friend.
We won't say much if the one they seek is a fresh graduate with a minimal skill that they willing to polish later on.
But with the skill and quality like above, please at least put a salary that people can survive properly in the heart of KL.

My friend then told, she encountered with kakak cleaner, asking her job in what field, when she replied she's in science field,
The kakak cleaner replied, 'mesti byk kan gaji adik'.

My friend said, 'hmm, ntah2 sama je gaji kita kak'.hehe.

Me and my colleagues in Breast Team are just soooo lucky to get a boss who are very understanding, and willing to spend the grant money and pay us according to our experience and qualification.
(...and that's actually her strategy to make us stay longer :D)
Indeed, it's true that people said,
'A good boss is like a good spouse'.

Till now, when we are still in doubt with the job prospect and future of scientist (outside academic) in Malaysia,
Yet, there is a news titled 'Malaysia need more science graduate'.

Sometimes I think, science stream is overrated in Msia.

I remember last month I met my colleague's daughter who currently preparing to enter her undergraduate study.
When I mentioned that I studied Genetics, she replied me with a familiar question,
'Mesti susah kan amek science?'

'No', I answered.
'Orang kata susah sebab dia tak belajar apa yang akak belajar. Macam akak tak amek Arts, akak pun akan kata susahnya accounting, susahnya architecture'.
She's nodded, agreed with me.

In my heart, 'please dik, science is not superior than arts.

Those who embark in science stream doesn't indicate that they are more intelligent than you'.

But well, after all, all field have its own challenges.

In spite of all these challenges,
We are still loyal to stay in this field.

Because we aware in the first place that being a scientist won't make us become a billionaire.

We stay here because of our passions in science.

We stay here because this is where we found ourselves can benefit the ummah.

The irritating people

I said to myself.
'Ya Allah, I can't handle this person.
Soooooo IRRITATING! Seriously'

At one time, somehow you may encounter with people you can't 'handle'.

You feel sooooo irritating, to the level you cannot keep for yourself.
You feel like you must let out the fire within you.
You want to backbiting her/him with all your heart.

I am someone who usually emotionally stable (because I am a phlegmatic dominant).
Things cannot easily excite me or make me anger.
When this is happening, now I understand, it's TRULY not easy to control the emotion.

'Ahhh, so, this is how it feels when you face someone with the character you can't handle'

What should I do?

First Monday 2016.
Early in the morning,

many people share their child's photo on first day at school.

It was just then, Berita Harian reported about this kid's first day.
His parent obviously not there on his first day at school.

I got teary eyes.
Remembering times when the day I came back to school on the first day just after my mom passed away.
I was 10 years old.
My teacher came to me, hold my shoulder and asked,
'Your mother just passed away?'
I nodded.

When watching about this news on TV,
My housemate said,
'Ish..kesian, dia tak tahu apa-apa lagi ni...'

No, you are wrong.

He is old enough to know what is happening.
I told you, he will remember everything.
The event was traumatic enough to be in his memories, perhaps for the rest of his life.

Dear boy,
Being patients and to be strong are the only options for you to move on this challenging life.
Allah will love you more than a mother can love,
believe me.

May Allah always protect you.

Being a housewife or stay-at-home mom, I think, is an expensive choice.

As a woman, rather than asking herself whether she could sacrifice her job and put aside her degrees, the first question to ask is whether she and her husband can afford for her to be a housewife.

I know people might say, what important is the children.

InsyaAllah, our sustenance is from Allah.
But we should be realistic too.
Yes, realistic.

But the meaning of realistic can be subjective too. Isn't?

One may think than woman go to work just simply because she want to has her own financially freedom.

The fact is, every woman want to raise their children with their own hands.

They don't want to missed their children's first steps

and devoted her life for their family.

But indeed,

to be a housewife is an expensive choice.

I completed reading all these books for a long long times ago.
Not sure if I do justice to review all this book.
So I think, this time I don't give any stars to be fair.

Lets see what are the things I remember from all 5.

Terima kasih Si Babi Hutan
By Lepat

This is a bestselling book by Lepat.
But to be honest, it simply doesn't work with me.
Maybe because am not so artistic.

I simply cannot stand the lengthy metaphoric description of the emotions and the events from all chapters.
I skip many pages, and trying to figure out the plot of the story.
Till now, I didn't get the idea of the main message from this book.

I'm sorry, but this will be my first and last book that I buy from this author.

Hadiah Buat Anak
By MKI

Prof Kamil wrote about his undergraduate journey until he got his PhD.
Surprisingly, although He is now a Professor, his journey in seeking knowledge
was non-linear.
There is one time when he scored very bad in his study, till the point He was expelled from the university.
That was the starting point when He bring back himself up, focus, and until finally where he is now.

Rekindle Your Life compiling many inspiring stories.
Some were the experience from the authors, some were stories from solafus soleh.
For me, the English is a bit difficult, hinder the message to really reach the heart.
You may find the English usage of this book is just fine, so why not grab this one?
You can get this book from MyBooqs from instagram, or Dakwah Corner Bookstores located at Bangi or PJ.

UK, Aku Mai

This is a travelogue by Shahkang.
As always, my favorite genre.
But I do have my own expectation when reading a travelogue.
I prefer the story focusing on the interaction of the writers with the local community where he/she travel to.
Just like what I read from Diari Seorang Diplomat, the book make the readers understand the culture of local people there. Ust Hasrizal is also one of my favorite travelogue book author.
Overall, this book is suitable for light reading especially for young readers at early 20's.

UYDL2

The author is obviously, a family man :).

I prefer this version than the previous one.
But still, the story about the local community at Liverpool was very few.
I also interested to read about his experience and challenges to work at Foreign University.
But that was not a focus of this book.
Maybe UYDL3?

Early this year, I signed up for Goodreads accounts.
I'm not a bookworm. But I really love bookstores. It's one of the places to distressed. Agree?
I read books because of several reasons.
One of it is because of the guiltiness from the book buying addict behavior.
I love books with beautiful covers..hehe. But dislike the one with authors' face on its covers.
Second, I think in future, I may be proud of my younger version, who read :).

So, having Goodreads account is like kind of encouragement to read more.
We can share what we learned from that books by writing a review.

Happy Saturday dear all!

Alhamdulillah.
Just noticed my international transfer is successful.
....and calculating how much I lost from that transfer.

Was started figuring out on how to do international money transfer since I coming back for good two years ago.
Wow, how time flies, two years has passed.

At the very beginning, I intended to use WorldRemit, because someone share on FB that the transfer was successful, quick, with low charge.
When I did further research, I found there was also those who lost their money from the transfer. Then I feel insecure to use WorldRemit.

Then I found this blog post sharing her experience on international money transfer from Lloyds to Maybank.
You can see i asked many questions there, and the blogger is very helpful.

Tuesday with Morrie

'Tuesday with Morrie' is one of my favorite books.
At the beginning, I thought it was a real story, but it is actually a fiction book.
However, my sincerity to write a (brief) book review was challenged when I found the highlighted parts from the books were disappeared.
*sigh
I used to highlight my favorite sentences from the book while I read, then, it will be easier to share my favorite sentences later on, and also for my own future references.
Somehow the color disappeared due to the material of the paper.

Because there are words that I really want to remember, I managed to find it back and re-highlight (nasib baik bukunya nipis).

Here we go.

The earlier parts of the book's content was a bit 'slow' (boring).
It started with the story that Morrie work as a Professor in the University where Mitch undertaking his degree.
However, they lost contact for many many years after graduation. At that time, Mitch already knew his Professor suffered a terminal illness, a kind of nerve-deteriorating disease.

Mitch was trying to find back his professor after he saw a popular TV programme where Prof Morrie was invited as a guest.

After that, they agreed to meet every Tuesday (so they called themselves a 'Tuesday people'), a day for them to talk about life. Mitch also audio-record the conversation.

The lessons are all would be very useful in our daily life.

Morrie's death project
It was interesting to read about Morrie's death final project.
In reality, whether we realize it or not, we all are currently working on our death project, isn't?
He even carry out his living funeral ceremony.
The idea came across when he attended his friend funeral ceremony.
He said, it would be better if his deceased friend can listen to every beautiful funeral speech.
Then, he decided to have his own 'living' funeral ceremony to be able to listen to all beautiful speech specially dedicated to him.

Living with death shadow: the acceptance
Living with death shadow is indeed terribly difficult.
But Morrie put a daily-limit on self-pity.
He choose to stay on the bright sides.
It is totally OKAY to give ourselves a good cry when we need it, but then, we concentrate on all the good things still in our life.

Accept the thing we are able and not able to do, and learn to forgive ourselves.

It's October..a pink month.
Eh, I don't plan to talk anything about pink month.
Being a part of breast research team, somehow a bit excited when pink month is here
:).

So again, it is October.
I think I'm not actively writing in blog since Aidil Fitri, several months has passed already.
*sigh.
Well, of course I have my own reason and not simply being lazy.

Blogging has been part of my life since 2010.
Because a part of it is my small effort of 'giving' and I take it quite seriously.
Since I'm not letting the noise out from my mind, sometimes I feel soooo lonely.
kesiaaann patik...kurang kasih sayang agaknya. ehehe.

You know what, when I'm not actively writing blog,
I become lazy to read books.
I got writing block.
I'm not highly motivated to face this challenging life.

Reading back the old blog entries, I was like,
'Am I and this writer is really the same person?'
'Where did I get this positive spirit from?'

I think I should continue writing for myself and my next generation!

At the beginning of the course, I remembered one thing you told us

''If you have any problem, come, talk to us. Yes your family is far away, but we are here, we are your family now"

We are soooooo lucky of having you when we did the course!

So, this is a picture of me (under the sun!) in front of Malaysia iconic building-KL twin tower, taken on the last day I attended Human Genome Meeting Conference in March 2015, and the picture of me and Prof Thong, Malaysia well-known clinical geneticist (he ever been in Duncan Guthrie Institute of Medical Genetics before!) with our HGM poster. Guess what, whenever I need to do a presentation, what I had in my mind is something like, Betty said don't put my hand in my pocket, Betty told me to not talk too fast'. Those are the words that haunted me as we did a lot of mock presentation previously lol. :D

Yes, I'm doing well, and at the same time am always missing my great times in Glasgow :')

Thanks for everything Betty.

Congratulations on your retirement. I wish you tons of happiness in the years ahead.

You will be missed, as always!

Cerita-cerita pengalaman yang menarik yang belum pernah kita dengar dari traveler lain. Percubaan yang baik sebagai buku pertama yang mungkin boleh diperbaiki untuk buku2 akan datang (jika ada).

For several months journey that had crossed many countries,
to be honest, I EXPECTED MORE than what has been presented here.

Several unanswered questions I had in my mind.
'What is the main driving force for him to start this 'crazy' journey?'.
The main motivation is simply not clear.
I don't think he just intended to break The World Guinness Book of Record.
I heard he did fundraising, but it was not mentioned in the book.
Also, am a bit confused, why sometimes he travel alone, sometimes the friends is there but sometimes not?

There are many quotes to keep at heart.

Random: Thursday with Prof A

Bismillah.

So...yes, it was Thursday; last day of our conference.
After the conference ended around 5pm, we planned to have our dinner together. It was me, my friend R and Prof A. The other two from our team were already left and flying back earlier, even before the conference was ended.

And so..we were trying to find halal food nearby.
Cari nasi.
I'm sure you know that Malays can survive well in Manchester as so many halal restaurants are offering nasi/biryani.
If people like Al-Jazeera, I prefer biryani at Kabul Kebab House.
(Or..maybe this bias was derived from our hungry tummy after landed on the first day).

It was pretty awkward.
Although she is very kind and nice. For us, boss is still a boss.
Prof's flight was tomorrow evening and ours was on Saturday.
Supposedly, we got meeting on Friday noon, but cancelled. So we got a free whole day for sight seeing!

While we walked, my friend ask,
'Prof, kitorang nak pergi Old Trafford esok. Jomlah'.
'Oh bestnya'
'Tak minat pun MU, tapi dah alang-alang ada kat sini'.
'haah, betul2. Uolls pergilah. uoll muda-muda lagi. Macam I ni, I prefer just sit down quietly in my room doing my work. So no need to face them again once I'm going back. You wasep I gambar je nanti I boleh tunjuk kat anak I'

'Pheww, nasib baik', kata hati kecilku, hihihi.

We entered Kukoos Street Food that located along the Oxford Road as we found halal sign pasted on the door and asking for nasi. But they only got kebab.
But the owner said, "Go to the street at the back, you can find The Zouk. It is halal restaurant and they got rice".
Wow, so nice, they even suggest the other restaurant for us to eat.

Yes, we found that restaurant. Very close, but it seems very exclusive.
'Alamak, tempat mahal ke nih', kata hati kecilku lagi.

Buku Saiful Nang: Kisah Orang Menang ini sungguh berbeza sekali.
Bila baca tu rasa macam membara je jantung.lol
Truly an eye-opening.

Sungguh berbisa.Ternyata impak orang yang berkata-kata dari pengalaman lebih berkesan pada jiwa kita.
Cerita-cerita beliau sangat dekat dgn apa yang kita lalui sehari-hari.

Cara berfikir yang berbeza.

Observe things at different angles.
Sinis, tetapi straight-forward.

Setiap kali baca mesti rasa macam 'fuhhh'. Gitu you.

Contohnya, sisi berbeza dari cerita arnab dan kura-kura ni:

"..kita tak boleh mengharapkan nasib sahaja untuk menang"

"...walaupun kita PERLAHAN, kita boleh menang dengan mereka yang HEBAT tapi MALAS"

Betul jugak eh?

Antara kasih atau kasihan dalam mendidik anak

Reminded me about my 'traditional' abah

Reading the childhood story from this book made me recall about my childhood times.
Because my parents are also traditional.
I was like, "oooh, patut pun dulu masa kecik-kecik abah macam ni..macam tu.."
