Jamie & Thomas originally planned to have their wedding in Hawaii in 2020 but unfortunately, Covid-19 had other plans. They decided to postpone their wedding until the summer of 2021 with the hopes that the pandemic would be over and they could once again gather in large numbers with their friends and family. Unfortunately, when the time came to finalize their venue and pay their final deposits, Alberta was still under health restrictions so rather than postpone again – they decided to pivot one last time and moved the wedding to Jamie’s parent’s backyard.

Despite all the setbacks, their day turned out to be a wonderful affair and the tented setting of Jamie’s parents provided a great backdrop for their closest friends and family members to gather to celebrate with them. Mother Nature also delivered with beautiful weather and thankfully some of the smoke from the forest fires in BC had cleared.

Being big Harry Potter fans, their decor featured several elements inspired by the books and movies and there was also a special appearance by Jamie & Thomas’s cat Dobby, who served as ring bearer. Guests enjoyed a custom Blue Hawaiian cocktail after the ceremony along with an amazing pickle bar that Jamie and her family put together.

Special thanks to Haley Erdegard for driving down to Calgary to second-shoot with me and a big shout out to all the great vendors who pulled together to make Jamie & Thomas’s day a special one including Cheryl from Something Borrowed Beauty Hair & Makeup and the team from Simply Elegant Corp who looked after all of the decor, outdoor tent, florals, and catering.

They chose to have their ceremony & reception at a friend’s house in West Edmonton. Bella got ready upstairs while Alex waited patiently downstairs and greeted their guests as they arrived. Starrly Brown provided the hair and makeup services and Bella looked exquisite in her wedding dress from Novelle Bridal.

Their friend’s backyard provided a beautiful setting for their ceremony and a nearby trail and park provided a beautiful backdrop for photos of the lovely couple. After photos were done, everyone moved indoors for toasts and a privately catered dinner prepared by Chef Sheridan.

That was the case for Alissa & Andrew who had originally planned to get married back in June but ended up postponing their wedding until the end of September and reduced the number of guests that they were able to invite to their reception. Despite the challenges and setbacks, they couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day for their fall wedding in Edmonton to tie the knot. Their ceremony was held in Sherwood Park at Bethel Lutheran Church and afterward, we headed to a nearby park for family photos. The timing for outdoor photos could not have been better as the leaves had fully changed and were thankfully still attached to the trees.

After family photos, we headed down into Mill Creek Ravine for photos with the wedding party. Alissa & Andrew really wanted to get a few photos near some of the upgraded footbridges that have been installed throughout the ravine in the past couple of years so we found a great spot that was also not too far of a drive from their reception location in Beaumont. After a few hours of bridal formals, we made our way out to Beaumont for their wedding reception at the Coloniale Golf Club.

We first met Jessica & Aaron a few years ago when we photographed Clarence & Eisen’s wedding. They really loved our photography and enjoyed the experience of working with us so as soon as Aaron proposed to Jessica, we were one of the first vendors they called to book.

Fast forward to 2020 and the Covid-19 pandemic threw a few wrenches into their plans but it didn’t stop them from celebrating with their closest friends and family in a socially distanced and safe way. While the day felt a bit different with masks, social distancing and plenty of hand sanitizer, they made sure everyone enjoyed themselves and their day went off without a hitch.

Their ceremony was held at St. Vital Parish in downtown Beaumont. After the ceremony, we swung by their favourite McDonald’s where they had their very first date to enjoy a quick lunch a take a few candid photos. A light rainstorm in the afternoon disrupted our plans to shoot outdoors so we headed downtown to our new studio on 104th Street for photos with the bridal party and some of their furry friends. Afterward, we headed back over to the southside for their intimate reception and tea ceremony. Special thanks to my friend Eileen Patel from Retrospekt Photography for being my amazing second shooter!

With most of the world under a lockdown, all of our photography sessions & events have been forced to cancel or postpone but that doesn’t mean there isn’t any work for us photographers to catch up on over the next few weeks. We have plenty of blogging & social media posts to plan, portfolios & websites to update, gear cupboards to organize, and we’re also using this time to do a bit of digital housekeeping in terms of emails, documents, and internal systems so that once things are back to normal, we’re ready to hit the ground running.

While most of the news these days is dedicated to talking about Covid-19 and planning a wedding is likely on the back-burner for many couples right now, eventually, things should return to normal and we can start to think about these things again. While we wait for that day to come, we thought we’d give you a break from the all the Covid-19 talk by sharing an audio clip from a couple of years ago when Edmonton wedding photographer Bruce Clarke was a guest on the Ryan Jespersen Show on 630 Ched with guest host Kelsey Campbell, Maggie Barton Baird from MB&Company, & Greg Goa from Market Sound Entertainment to chat about weddings. Specifically, we talked about the pros and cons of having your wedding on a long weekend, wedding timelines, the guest experience, gifts and more. Alex & Shane’s ceremony was held at Dayspring Presbyterian Church in Edmonton. To nobody’s surprise, the rain forced us to stay indoors for family photos before we headed over the University of Alberta for photos with the wedding party and the newlyweds. Fortunately, the rain let up for a few minutes which allowed us to get a few photos outdoors before we had to seek shelter again. Once bridal party photos were completed, we made our way out to Beaumont for their wedding reception at the Coloniale Golf Club.

Alex & Shane, thank you for trusting us to capture your wedding day. And thank you to the entire England family for including us in some of your family’s most important moments. We are forever grateful to have had the opportunity to work with you. Now we’ll just have to see if we’re still photographing weddings when it’s Grace’s turn to get married…lol.

Their ceremony was held in the front yard of Kirsten’s parents’ beautiful acreage just outside of the town of Whitecourt. As anyone living in Alberta this summer knows, we’ve had a lot of rain and the forecast was calling for more on their wedding day. Thankfully, Mother Nature cooperated and the rain held off long enough for the ceremony and photos afterward. Since the wedding was taking place out of town, everyone got ready at Kirsten’s parents. The guys hung out downstairs while all of the ladies finished getting ready upstairs once they got back from the salon. The outdoor ceremony was officiated by Terry Slemko.

Once the ceremony & family photos were finished, we headed back into Whitecourt for a few photos near the Athabasca River before heading to a family friend’s farm near Mayerthorpe for a few more photos with Kirsten & Ryan and their wedding party. From there we headed into the town of Mayerthorpe for their reception at the Mayerthorpe Diamond Centre.

Normally when we photograph a wedding or event, we don’t often get to see the decor and floral arrangements being created so it was fun to watch these creative artists produce their creations under intense pressure and tight timeframes all while being watched and judged. Bruce has been an active member of the Edmonton Chapter of ILEA for the past 5 years and has held several volunteer positions on their board. In addition, Moments in Digital has been the official photography sponsor for their events for the past four years. The opportunity to work and collaborate with some of the best event professionals in the industry has provided us with many great opportunities. When invert720 Productions and Foundry Conferences & Events approached us to do some behind-the-scenes photography and videography of the YESS Gala last year, we jumped at the opportunity to collaborate with them.

The YESS Gala is held annually and is the largest fundraising event of the year for Youth Empowerment & Support Services. Based in Edmonton, YESS provides immediate and low-barrier shelter, temporary housing, and individualized wraparound support for youth ages 15-24. The 2018 Gala was held at the Edmonton Convention Centre and the theme was Alice in Wonderland. Check out the photos below to see some of the amazing work that went into producing this unique event in Edmonton.

It was the perfect day for a wedding with temperatures in the mid 20’s,  barely a cloud in the sky and just enough of a breeze to make things a bit more comfortable for a bunch of pasty Canadians who hadn’t seen the sun in a few months. The day started out with the girls enjoying a few mimosas while Roland’s sister Cassie worked on their hair and makeup. Meanwhile, the boys were able to soak up a few rays poolside while enjoying a few cold beverages before they had to get start getting into their suits. Tami & Roland’s ceremony was held at one of the hotel’s private wedding gazebos as they had a few guests with some mobility issues that would have made it a challenge getting down the beach. They also didn’t want to take the chance of having other hotel guests hanging out in their banana hammocks in the background while their ceremony was taking place.

After the ceremony was complete and family photos were taken in a nice shady spot, we explored the beach and resort with the wedding party for more photos before dinner. Dinner was held at one of the hotel’s a la carte restaurants and then after dinner, they had a private section near the pool reserved for their low-key reception.

It was close to -20 on the day not including wind chill but fortunately Sarah had taken our advice on booking a backup indoor location & everyone was able to keep warm inside the train station at the park as we ducked outside for a few minutes at a time to photograph the bride & groom with their families. After family photos were complete, we had about a 1/2 hour to spend with Sarah & Dale to create some formal wedding photos with them. They braved the elements and made the short trek to the grain elevators for a few photos of just the two of them before we retreated back to the warmth of the train station to finish up their session.

After their ceremony, Charlene & Kane’s limo whisked them off to a couple of locations in the city for photos with a final stop at Hawrelak Park. Charlene & Kane enjoy the outdoors and staying active so they really wanted to have a few photos taken at a location that reflected their enjoyment of the outdoors, surrounded by nature and people enjoying their favourite winter activities like skating & cross country skiing.

Fatima & Colten are two of the kindest and thoughtful souls we’ve had the chance to meet and we were delighted to photograph their Nikah ceremony and reception in Edmonton. For those not familiar with Islam, Nikah is translated as marriage. According to Wikipedia:

In Islam, marriage is a legal contract between a man and a woman. Both the groom and the bride are to consent to the marriage of their own free wills. A formal, binding contract – verbal or on paper^[1] – is considered integral to a religiously valid Islamic marriage, and outlines the rights and responsibilities of the groom and bride. There must be two Muslim witnesses of the marriage contract.

Fatima & Colten’s Nikah was held at the Rahma Mosque in the west-end of Edmonton. The ceremony itself is very similar to a Jewish ketubah signing and consisted of a religious ceremony and a formal contract signing. After the ceremony, we took a few family photos and then everyone headed out for dinner and to prepare for their wedding reception the following day.

The day after the Nikah, we met up with Fatima & Colten for a few getting ready photos before heading to the Muttart Conservatory for a first look and formal photos inside the pyramids. Even though it was chilly outside, Fatima & Colten were real troopers and agreed to sneak outside for a few photos in the snow.

Afterwards we headed to the Persia Palace on the south side for their wedding reception which featured an energetic introduction and performance by Afrah Al Majd. Enjoy this sneak peek from Fatima & Colten’s wedding in Edmonton.

Caroline & Ryan originally met about 10 years ago on Whyte Ave outside of Fat Franks as the bars on the popular street were closing down. Caroline’s friends had left her by herself and Ryan being the gentleman that he is, approached her to see if she needed a ride or if he could help. Since they had just met, Caroline graciously turned down his offer of a ride but Ryan made sure that she got into a taxi and got home safe that evening however she left before he could get her contact information. Fast forward several years later, Caroline and Ryan decided to dip their toes into the online dating world and ended up meeting for a date. It was at that date that they realized they had met before and figured this must be a sign that they were meant to be together.

Fast forward a couple more years to their wedding day. Their ceremony was held at St. Thomas D’Aquin where they also did a quick first look before the ceremony to get the nerves out of the way before seeing all of their friends and family. After the ceremony & family photos at the church, we briefly headed outside for some photos with the bridal party and happy couple in the fresh snow. It was pretty chilly and windy that day so after Ryan rescued his bride from the clutches of a giant snowman, we made our way to the Highlands Golf Club so they could warm up before their reception.

We had a great time getting to know Kirsten & Ryan a bit more during their session and we also enjoyed meeting Maverick who was a very good boy during the session, even when there were squirrels around to tempt him. Being dog lovers ourselves, we know it’s always going to be a fun photo session when our couples involve their dogs somehow. While it can be a logistic challenge to try and include them in the wedding day, the engagement session is the perfect opportunity to include your fur baby in your love story.

The day started with Brandy & Step getting ready at her aunt Bev’s acreage just a few kilometres out of town. Aunt Bev was a fabulous host and made us feel right at home while we photographed the guys and girls getting ready for the wedding. Once everyone was ready, we made our way over to MacArthur Place for their ceremony which was held on the back deck overlooking Lac La Biche. It was a pretty windy day which made for a bit of a chilly ceremony for the girls but thankfully there were several chivalrous gentlemen willing to give up their coats to keep the girls warm during the ceremony.

After the ceremony, we headed back to Aunt Bev’s for photos with the family and wedding party before heading back to MacArthur Place for their ceremony & wedding reception. We really enjoyed the laid back day that Brandy & Steph planned and it was nice that everyone had an opportunity in between the wedding and the reception to relax and spend time with their friends and family. The day started out with the girls getting ready at Blush Artistry’s salon in Sherwood Park while the guys were getting dressed at Katie & Dylan’s new house. After hair and makeup were done, we headed over to Katie’s moms where they finished getting ready before making our way out to Fort Saskatchewan for their ceremony at  Our Lady of the Angels Parish. Since we were already out in Fort Saskatchewan, we took advantage of being close to Jarvis Park and took the wedding party there to do wedding photos. During the summer months, the city employs a herd of sheep to keep the grass around the historic fort neatly trimmed but we discovered that sheep must get a little tired of eating grass all day and get excited by the prospect of eating fresh flowers! After one of the bridesmaids got stepped on and another one was bitten trying to rescue the flower girls’ bouquet from one of the hungry sheep, thankfully the shepherd looking after the sheep herded them up so our group didn’t suffer any additional unprovoked sheep attacks.

After photos were finished in Fort Saskatchewan, we made our way to the Quarry Golf Club in Edmonton for family photos and Katie & Dylan’s wedding reception which included some great patio games like giant Jenga, beer pong and the cornhole game. Partway through the evening, we took a bug-filled golf cart ride out onto the course to catch the sunset and get a few romantic sunset wedding photos before the evening ended.

The day started with the guys and girls getting ready in the two pavilions located inside the Kurimoto Japanese Gardens. Although the weather in the morning looked a bit suspect, by the time the ceremony rolled around, the rain clouds disappeared and we just had to deal with a bit of wind. Their ceremony was held on the wedding patio and afterward, we stopped by the brand new Aga Khan Garden to do a few photos with the wedding party. Since it just opened a few weeks ago, it’s still a very popular part of the garden so it was challenging trying to do photos with large crowds around but we did manage to find a couple of openings to capture some photos of Kim & Tyler and their wedding party.

From there we headed to the University of Alberta where Kim & Tyler spent many years earning their degrees and then it was off to the Edmonton Riverboat (formerly The Edmonton Queen) for their reception. It was our first time on the boat and the first wedding on the Edmonton Riverboat since it was recently renovated. It made for a really unique reception location and after dinner and speeches, Kim & Tyler surprised their guests with their first dance on the upper deck of the boat and a sunset sail down to the new Walterdale Bridge.

We had such a great day woking with Elyse & the team from Jennifer Bergman Weddings. It was also a chance for us to catch up with one of our past couples David & Alyssa who recently had a little girl named Grace who also happened to be the flower girl for Kim & Tyler. Special thanks to all of the other great vendors who helped bring their wedding to life.

Haley & Brendan’s relationship goes all the way back to when they met in high school and has continued to grow stronger as the years have gone by. They do everything together including working together and you can really tell that they make an amazing team together. They currently live and work in Whitecourt but decided to have their wedding and reception in Edmonton. To keep things simple for everyone, they chose to have their ceremony and reception at the Delta Edmonton South which is where the day started with both sides of the wedding party getting ready.

Once everyone was ready, we headed upstairs to the Top of the Inn for their ceremony which was officiated by Marilyn from MDK Ceremonies. We loved that they incorporated their own personal vows into their ceremony which were written inside of two custom inscribed notebooks. After the ceremony, we took some family photos at the hotel before hoping in the limo bus to head downtown to Mercer Tavern for a few drinks and some snacks to keep everyone’s energy levels up.

Mother nature was having a bit of a tough time making up her mind this day delivering some rain and hail in the morning followed by some gusty wind and sunshine but thankfully by the time we headed down to Riverdale Park, the rain and hail had passed on. We took a few more photos in the park before heading back to hotel for their reception.

For many couples with fur babies, it’s hard to find a way to include them on the wedding day so the engagement session is a great opportunity to get some photos with them and since we’re dog people, we love it when couples include their pets in their photos. It’s also a great way to make the session even more personal. After a few hours in the car, Kia was pretty excited to go for a walk in Whitemud Park and had a blast running through the snow and finding her favourite thing in the world – sticks.

For those unfamiliar with the Ice Castles, they are temporary outdoor installations made entirely from hand-crafted ice. The Ice Castles began in Utah and eventually spread to other cities throughout North America and they’ve now been in Edmonton for the past three years and continue to be a popular attraction for those looking to get out of the house during the cold winter months.

Sarah and Trevor made the trip up from Calgary and we lucked out with some reasonably mild temperatures for their session. If you decide to do photos at the Ice Castles, be prepared to work around the crowds and be sure to dress warmly as it will be about -5 degrees colder inside the castle than the temp on your phone’s weather app. We chose a weekday to visit and arrived as soon as they opened so that we could be one of the first groups inside the castles which allowed us a few minutes to take photos before it started to get busy. Buy your tickets in advance to save a few dollars but keep in mind that you won’t have exclusive access to the space. There is an option to book the Ice Castles for a private session but the cost is fairly high for something like an engagement session and they do limit the number of private sessions so that they can do maintenance and work on the installation while it is closed to the public.

Once it started to get crowded, we headed down to the skating rink at Hawrelak Park for a few more photos out on the frozen pond to finish off their session. Enjoy this sneak peek and stay tuned to the blog for more engagement sessions and for photos from their wedding later this year.

Olde Back Roads was a new location for us and Kim actually discovered it on Facebook. The owner Gloria decided a few years ago to open up her beautiful property in Stony Plain to photographers for sessions and over the past few years, she’s expanded the property to include a bunch of really nice sets complete with props like chalkboards, vintage vehicles, blankets, etc.

Yasmeen & Rob chose to get married at the home of Yasmeen’s grandparents and it was a full house filled with lots of love and plenty of delicious food courtesy of Stir Catering. Yasmeen got ready there while Rob got dressed over at their house. Just a few weeks prior to the wedding, Rob broke his foot in a judo incident so it made getting around on the day a bit more challenging but Rob was able to wear a peg leg brace which made him a bit more mobile than he would have been with just crutches.

Once Rob was ready, he headed over with his family to greet Yasmeen and her family. They then proceeded to have their ceremony in the family room which was followed by a tradition where close family members give jewelry to the bride and groom. Meanwhile the other guests gathered in the family room to enjoy some dancing and more great food along with some delicious and very strong Lebanese coffee.

After the ceremony and family photos were done, we headed down to MacTaggart Sanctuary to catch the last bit of daylight to do photos with the entire bridal party before making our way over to the Fantasyland Hotel for their reception. Yasmeen and Rob made a grand entrance led in by traditional Lebanese Zaffe dancers from the dance troupe Afrah Al Majd. The rest of the evening featured lots of dancing, more delicious food, and a cake cutting with a traditional Lebanese sword.

For this wedding, they wanted to go with something much more casual and intimate and Zinc was the perfect venue for their ceremony and reception. Before all of the wedding festivities took place, we met up with Sapna & Scott in the River Valley to photograph them among the remaining fall leaves on a very blustery afternoon. While most of the leaves had already hit the ground, we managed to find a few spots that still had some leaves left on the trees and Sapna & Scott had no problems cuddling up with each other to keep warm. After shooting in the River Valley for a little while, we headed over to the Muttart for a few photos on top of the pyramids before heading back to the Art Gallery of Alberta for a few more wedding photos prior to the ceremony & reception.

Scott and Sapna chose not to have a formal wedding party but opted instead to have their parents stand up with them during their ceremony. After the ceremony and cake cutting, both families sat down to a delicious meal from Zinc that featured a variety of western and Indian dishes. The evening was capped off by a few speeches, the shoe game and a few rounds of shots before everyone called it a night.

Scott loves to watch the NFL and since we did their session on a Sunday, we started out with a few casual photos in their home where Scott was able to enjoy a bit of the game while snuggling with Sapna on the couch. Afterwards, we went for a stroll through their new neighbourhood and discovered some beautiful walking trails with views of the river valley and the North Saskatchewan River that were just steps away from their new house. As avid nature lovers, Sapna & Scott are looking forward to spending more time in their new neighbourhood and being able to step outside their door and go for walks feeling like they’ve left the hustle and bustle of the city without having to drive anywhere.

The day started out at the Matrix Hotel where both sides of the wedding party got themselves ready prior to heading to the church for their ceremony. We love it when couples incorporate meaningful traditions into their ceremony and it’s always fun for us to capture those meaningful details. Eisen & Clarence’s ceremony included many filipino wedding traditions including a coin bearer, a veil ceremony, and the cording ceremony.

The coin bearer is someone picked by the bride and groom who carries 13 coins representing Jesus and the 12 apostles down the aisle. The coins are more commonly known as wedding arrhae and represent the groom’s promise to provide for his family. After the unity candle is lit, a veil is pinned on the couple by a set of sponsors (similar to godparents), signifying the two individuals becoming one. After the veiling, another set of sponsors will drape a cord over the couple’s shoulders in a figure eight pattern to symbolize everlasting fidelity.

After their ceremony, we headed over to Borden Park and down into Edmonton’s river valley for photos with the happy couple and their wedding party before making a quick pit stop downtown at Craft for a quick bite and some refreshments.

After a quick pit stop, everyone headed back to the Santa Maria Goretti Centre for the reception which included some amazing musical performances, an impromptu serenade by the groomsmen, and several heartfelt speeches which brought out more than a few tissues in the crowd.

One of those couples looking to take advantage of the fall colours was Kim & Tyler who’s wedding we are really looking forward to photographing next July. With Kim having a busy schedule at the hospital and Tyler heading off to Cambridge for school for a few months, our dates to shoot were limited but we managed to find a beautiful fall evening when they were both free to get together to do their engagement session. These two totally knocked it out of the park and had such a great time at their session that there was never a moment without smiles and laughter.

The day started out with the girls getting ready at Cara’s sisters’ house while the guys did their thing at a nearby hotel. When all were ready, it was off to Rainer Gardens for their outdoor garden ceremony. Cara was glowing as her dad walked her up the aisle and Sean couldn’t take his eyes off of her for the entire ceremony. After the ceremony, we spent some time creating photos on the lovely grounds of the property which included a few shots with Sean’s classic Corvette which had picked Cara up in for their very first date.

Their reception was held at the Faculty Club at the University of Alberta so we took advantage of being on campus to do a few more urban inspired photos in and around some of the great architecture at the University. From there we headed back to the Faculty Club so they could mix and mingle at cocktail hour prior to their low-key reception.

Getting to spend the day with Amanda & Jed to capture their wedding was a real delight. They were such a great couple to work with and trusted us to capture the most important parts of their day which means a lot, particularly since Jed is an amazing photographer himself. The day started out with the girls getting ready in St. Albert while the boys got dressed at one of the groomsmen’s condo in downtown Edmonton. Once the boys were ready, they swung by Baiju to enjoy a few shots of Japanese whiskey before meeting up with the girls at Grant MacEwan for Amanda & Jed’s first look.

After the first look, we headed down into the River Valley for more photos before heading out to the Enjoy Centre for their wedding ceremony and reception in the Moonflower Room. As luck would have it, speeches wrapped up just in time to sneak Amanda & Jed out for a few beautiful sunset photos which is something that we don’t always get the opportunity to do. We highly encourage all couples to have a look at when sunset is happening and try to leave some space in the program to sneak out for some sunset photos if it works to do them at your venue. You’ll be glad you did and your photographers will love you even more!

Nicole & Glenn are exactly the type of couple who we love to work with. Laid back, down-to-earth, intelligent, and a little bit sarcastic. Our friend and amazing planner Rebecca from High Culture introduced us to Nicole & Glenn last year and we knew that we’d have a great day with them after hearing about their plans for a laid back, intimate wedding at the Yellowhead Brewery in Edmonton.

The day started out with a first look and photos with the bridal party at the University of Alberta. We loved Nicole’s choice to embrace colour in her gorgeous bouquet from Fabloomosity and the choice of mismatched dresses suits on the bridal party looked fantastic in photos.

From there we headed to the Yellowhead Brewery for their ceremony which was officiated by Bob Wyatt and featured the cutest flower girls ever! After the ceremony and family photos, guest enjoyed their casual reception which featured another amazing dessert table and cake from Gloria at The Art of Cake and entertainment by Premiere DJs.

Back in 2007-2008, Twitter was just beginning to explode on the social media scene and back then you could almost count on one hand the number of people using and engaging on Twitter. Periodically, a group of early adopters of the service would meet up at outings called Tweetups to network and put a face to our online personas. That was where Bruce first met Chris and several of his fellow partners and co-workers from Yardstick Software. Over the years, Bruce had the pleasure of working with Chris and his team to do some commercial photographer for his company and some campaign photos when Chris ran in the provincial election. Fast forward almost 10 years and we were thrilled when Chris told us he had met this beautiful Irish lass while working out in Toronto and was getting married and wanted us to document their day.

And what a great day it was. Lisa, her maid of honour and Chris’s two daughters all got ready at the Westin Hotel with the help of the team from Blush Artistry. Meanwhile, all of the boys (also known as the Association) gathered at one of the groomsmen’s to get into their wedding finery.

From there it was off to the Art Gallery of Alberta for their ceremony and reception. In addition to having a JP preside over the ceremony to make it all official, Edmonton storyteller Todd Babiak conducted his first ever wedding ceremony and did and amazing job telling Lisa & Chris’s story.

After the ceremony, we explored downtown Edmonton with the wedding party and then sent them back to the AGA for cocktails while we photographed Lisa and Chris around the new Royal Alberta Museum which is scheduled to open in 2018.

Their reception was a blast which featured delicious food from the culinary team at Zinc, dessert from The Art of Cake, and some great Irish dancing courtesy of some of Lisa’s family members. Enjoy this sneak peek from their big day!

Although she was against doing a first look when they started their wedding planning, Jesse eventually managed to sell Melissa on the merits of doing one since their ceremony was taking place later in the day and it wouldn’t leave much time for photos or for visiting with their guests during cocktail hour. After getting ready at Rock, Paper, Shears, the girls headed over to the Art Gallery of Alberta where we planned to do their first look. The guys meanwhile were getting ready nearby at the Westin and then headed over for the first look.

After Melissa and Jesse did their first look, we made our way over to Craft Beer Market on Rice Howard Way so the entire wedding party could relax and get some lunch while we did a few photos in and around the bar. The manager was a friend of Jesse’s and granted us access to the keg room to do photos which I think was Jesse’s favourite part of the day (apart from marrying Melissa of course).

It rained for a good portion of their wedding day so it was great that we had some amazing indoor locations to work with but we also wanted to shoot outside a bit for some variety. Armed with a few umbrellas, we headed outdoors for a few fun shots downtown including a stop at the site of one of the art installations that was part of Rust Magic – a mural festival that had been held a few weeks earlier. We had seen this particular building being painted a few weeks earlier and were excited to take Melissa, Jesse and their wedding party there for a few quick photos. Special credit to Kris Kanaly (aka Pyramid Guy) who was the artist behind this particular mural.

Once we were done there it was time to head back to the Art Gallery for Melissa & Jesse’s wedding ceremony and reception. Thankfully the rain let up which allowed everyone to mingle and enjoy cocktails on the 3rd floor patio after the ceremony. Melissa & Jesse had a great reception which featured a unique way of getting the couple to kiss – giant Jenga!

Today we’re excited to share a sneak peek from Eisen & Clarence’s summer engagement photos in Edmonton. When we first meet with our couples at the studio, one of the common things we hear from them is that they are nervous to get in front of the camera and are not sure what to expect. Most couples also comment that they don’t think that they look good in photos so a big part of our job is making our clients feel comfortable and relaxed so that they can be themselves.

This is one of the main reasons why we love to do engagement sessions with our couples. Not only do they get some great professional images of themselves, it’s also a great opportunity to build their confidence in front of the camera so that when the wedding day rolls around they are relaxed, confident, and excited to get in front of our cameras.

This was definitely the case with Eisen and Clarence who had expressed their nervousness about photos to us when we met. Despite their concerns, it only took a few minutes to get them joking and laughing with each other during their session in Whitemud Creek and when the hour was up, we came away with some amazing images for them. In just over a month, Cara & Sean will say their I Do’s in front of their friends and family. We can’t wait to photograph their wedding day. We met up with them a couple of weeks ago on a beautiful summer night to photograph their engagement session.

I don’t think a moment went by when they weren’t looking at each other or giggling. These are always great signs that a couple is crazy about each other and can’t wait to tie the knot.

Both Cassie and Ryan got ready in the city at separate locations and then headed out to the gardens for their ceremony on an absolutely beautiful summer day. Cassie was glowing and looked stunning in her dress from Novelle Bridal while Ryan looked pretty handsome in his tux from Moores. It was a pretty emotional day for both families but particularly for Cassie’s family as she was the first of the sisters to get married.

After the ceremony and photos, everyone headed back to the Holiday Inn for their reception which featured amazing home-made cupcakes from Cassie’s bridesmaids. Since Cassie works for Crest, they also had the most useful wedding favour kit ever which included a few tubes of toothpaste, floss, brushes, and a few other goodies. We were also witness to some awesome speeches from friend’s and family and one of the best video slideshows we’ve seen recently which contained lots of great marriage advice for Cassie and Ryan from their friends and family.

We love first looks and for couples looking to have their ceremony later in the day, it’s the perfect way to fit photos into the timeline. We also love the moment when they get to see each other for first time and after capturing that moment we normally put our cameras down and give the couple a few minutes to just be with each other as that will likely be the only time during the day that they’ll be completely alone until after it’s all done. Most of our couples who opt for a first look often comment that those few minutes alone with just each other, was one of their favourite moments from the wedding day. Bridal formals followed the first look and then it was off to the Wedding Patio for their ceremony and family photos.

Once photos were complete, we made a quick pit stop at Prospector Point in Devon and then it was off to the Fantasyland Hotel for their reception where it just so happens that Jennifer’s mom Liz is the manager of banquets and catering. Everyone had a good chuckle during speeches when Jennifer joked and thanked the staff for doing such an amazing job out of fear of losing their jobs.

Carolyn & Abasi both wanted a relaxing day and didn’t want to spend too much time driving all around the city so they planned everything to take place within a few square blocks in downtown Edmonton. The guys all got ready at the Holiday Inn Express while the ladies got prepared at the Matrix Hotel which also happened to be the site of the reception. Once both sides were ready, we headed just a few short blocks away to the First Presbyterian Church for the ceremony. This was the first time we’d had the pleasure of photographing a wedding inside this beautiful church and it offered some great vantage points to create photos.

After the ceremony, we headed down to the new Federal Building for photos with the bridal party and the happy couple before returning to the Matrix Hotel for their reception.

We’ve known Haley for many years and Bruce often second shoots with Haley so when she told us that her mom was getting married and that we were one of the photographers on her mom’s shortlist, we were very honoured. We immediately clicked with Linda & Alaa when we met them and we shared in their vision for their day. They didn’t want anything too complicated and just wanted to look good in a few photos and have plenty of time to relax and enjoy the day with their friends and family.

The day started out at the Hotel MacDonald where everyone got ready. Emily from Blushed Beaute was there to get the ladies ready while the gentlemen nervously got dressed a few floors below. Once ready, Linda & Alaa shared a lovely first look at the Hotel before heading out to take a few photos in front of Holy Trinity Church which was where her mom and dad had been married on the exact same day back in 1950.

Afterwards, we headed over to Linda’s mother’s house in Mill Creek Ravine for family and bridal photos. Linda’s mother is a spry 94 years old but due to some mobility issues, she wasn’t able to attend the wedding so we made sure to stop by the house to capture some nice family photos with her and her daughter along with the rest of the family. We then headed down into Mill Creek Ravine for a few photos with the happy couple

After photos were done, we made our way to the Art Gallery of Alberta where Linda & Alaa were married in the beautiful Borealis Room on the 4th floor of the gallery and then everyone headed downstairs to Zinc Restaurant for their reception which featured gorgeous florals by FaBLOOMosity, an incredible meal, an amazing cake courtesy of Gloria at The Art of Cake, and entertainment provided by Fazman Patel from St84ward Entertainment.

The moment we met Linda & Alaa we knew that photographing them was going to be a treat. They are both such warm-hearted and beautiful people and the way they make each other smile is infectious. Both Linda & Alaa weren’t expecting to find love again after losing both of their spouses but the universe works in mysterious ways and brought them together. They both chose to do their engagement session at the University of Alberta as both Linda & Alaa have spent many years at the UofA as both students and in their professional careers.

Everything took place at the Hotel MacDonald which always makes for a nice relaxed day for everyone when you don’t have to worry about driving to multiple locations. We got to work alongside the great team from SEN Studios who helped all the girls get ready with hair and makeup. Denver surprised Courtney with not just one gift but to including a beautiful necklace, a dozen long stemmed roses, and a teddy bear. To ensure that he arrived on time for the ceremony, Courtney presented Denver with a beautiful watch from fossil.

Their ceremony was held in the beautiful Wedgewood Room and then we used the grounds of the hotel to create photos with Courtney, Denver, and their wedding party while the hotel flipped the room for their reception.

The day started out with the guys getting ready at the River Cree while the girls prepared for the big day at Mariah & Shaun’s house. Shaun is such a thoughtful guy and definitely won some extra points with Mariah & the bridesmaids when gifts showed up at the house everyone. A few tears were also shed when Mariah’s parents presented her with an amazing photo album and a beautiful piece of jewellery that originally belonged to Mariah’s grandmother and had been worn by Mariah’s mom on her wedding day.

The ceremony was held downtown at All Saints Anglican Cathedral and was officiated by Reverend Neil Gordon. After the ceremony we made our way over to Rutherford House at the University of Alberta for photos with the bride & groom and their wedding party before heading back to the River Cree for their reception.

Engagement sessions are a great opportunity for us to build a connection with our clients prior to photographing them on their wedding day. Couples often comment prior to the shoot that they are nervous or shy around cameras so the engagement session is a great opportunity to break the ice and find out what poses and interactions work best for them. Usually, within about 15 minutes we have our couples completely relaxed and enjoying a good laugh together and they forget that the cameras are even there which is when the magic starts to happen. So if you are planning a wedding and thinking about cutting out the engagement session to save some money, we would highly recommend trying to find some room in your budget to make it work. You’ll find that if you do, not only will you have awesome casual photos for things like your save the date cards and wedding slideshows, you’ll also be that much more comfortable on your wedding day and it will show in your wedding photos.

Now no shoot would be complete without an amazing team to work with. We partnered with a couple of great local Edmonton artists for hair and makeup. Raven Dee from Raven Dee Makeup Artistry provided the makeup for this shoot. This was my first time working with Raven and she is an amazing makeup artist who recently relocated back to Edmonton after spending some time in Las Vegas. My friend Jill Keech is a talented hairstylist and photographer and she did a fantastic job styling Ashley’s hair in a couple of different dry/wet looks for this shoot.

Recently we’ve also been experimenting with adding video to our services so this was another great opportunity to work on a behind-the-scenes video showing off the production work that goes into a photoshoot like this. Despite the frigid temperatures and the wind, they were both troopers braving the cold and trudging through the deep snow to the get the and results were magical. We can’t wait for their wedding at the end of May when hopefully the weather will be a bit warmer and we won’t have to trudge through any snow to get the shot.

The day started out with the girls getting ready at the Matrix Hotel while the guys enjoyed some board games at Amanda & Andy’s house in Sherwood Park before they got dressed. Since their wedding ceremony was taking place later in the afternoon, the plan was to do a first look at the hotel and then take the majority of their wedding photos prior to the ceremony since it would be too dark outside for photos afterward.

Heather & Stephanie from Blush Artistry were awesome to work with and they did such a great job on the hair and makeup for Amanda and her bridesmaids. I loved that when I first arrived I found Amanda calmly sitting in a chair enjoying a hot beverage out of her Justine Ma “Calm The Fuck Down Mug”. Once hair and makeup was done, it was time for Amanda to get into her gorgeous Hayley Paige wedding dress from Delica Bridal. Meanwhile, the guys donned their tuxes from Derks and made their way to the Matrix Hotel to meet up with the girls. Amanda & Andrew wanted to do a private first-look so we decided to keep it simple and did the first look in their suite at the hotel. Once their first look was done, we headed downtown for some urban photos at an abandoned warehouse and then into the River Valley for some outdoor photos in the snow.

Once photos were done, we headed back to the Matrix Hotel for their ceremony and reception which included a fun photo booth and an amazing dessert bar. We had so much fun ringing in the New Year with the newlyweds and their friends and family and for the first time in awhile, we stayed long enough to shut down the party.

Their wedding weekend kicked off on the Friday with Riya’s Mehndi ceremony at the Fantasyland Hotel and Sumeer’s Vatna ceremony at his mom’s house. Sumeer wasn’t too thrilled to have the tumeric paste applied to his face but he was a great sport throughout the night. Lindsay from Edmonton Henna Tattoos did an incredible job on Riya’s mehndi and the evening was a fun, laid back night with just Riya and a small gathering of her friends and family in attendance.

On Saturday, they held a joint Sangeet at the Fantasyland Hotel so their guests could meet each other. Many of the guests were from out of town so this was a great chance to get everyone together before the big day. Chelsea and her team from River City Events did a great job of planning and coordinating the event which included mini-donuts, a popcorn bar, traditional Indian dancing, and speeches and performances by family members and close friends.

Sunday was the big day which started early with the girls getting ready at the hotel prior to the ceremony. Anita & Susan from Sen Studios did an amazing job on hair and makeup as always and the Fantasyland ballroom was beautifully transformed for their ceremony thanks to River City Events & Fleurs Flowers. Once everyone was ready, Sumeer & his family gathered in the lobby of the hotel to begin the Baraat which is a wedding processional that happens prior to the ceremony.

Once the ceremony was complete, we headed to the University of Alberta for formal photos with the bridal party. Fortunately the weather gods were with us and we were able to do photos outdoors as it had been -40 just the day prior. Once photos were done, everyone returned to the hotel for an outfit change followed by Riya & Sumeer’s reception which featured a delicious spread, cupcakes by Flirt Cupcakes, and entertainment by Firefly Theatre & Circus.

Melissa & Jesse met online and one of their first dates was at the Fort Edmonton Footbridge so that was where they wanted to do their engagement photos. They brought along their adorable fur-baby Radar who also got in on some of the photo action. We love it when our couples choose to incorporate various props in their session that tell a story and have significant meaning to their relationship. In the case of Melissa & Jesse, their shoot included a beautiful quilt that Melissa’s mom had made along with jersey’s from their favourite baseball team – the Dodgers who unfortunately came close but lost to the Chicago Cubs in the World Series.

After enjoying a few pints and some appetizers, the weather had cleared up so we headed over to the University of Alberta for a few photos with Nicole & Zach and their wedding party which included a few photos with a vintage Corvette belonging to Zach’s father.

Once the formal photos were done, we headed back to Characters Restaurant on 105th Street to capture candid photos during their laid back reception. But the party didn’t end there. A few weeks after the wedding, Nicole & Zach held a second larger reception at the Polish Hall to celebrate their union with extended family and friends.

Their day started out in Sherwood Park where they both got ready before doing a first look at a nearby park.

Afterwards, we headed out to Hastings Lake Gardens for their outdoor ceremony and bridal formals before heading up to Ardrossan for their wedding reception. If you’re searching for the perfect outdoor wedding ceremony location, Hastings Lake Gardens is an excellent choice. The grounds are beautifully maintained and the wedding gazebo offers an intimate location to say your vows.

Their sprawling grounds also offer a great rustic option for formal photos after the ceremony which cuts down on having to allot time to travel to another location for photos. The grounds feature some gorgeous open fields, a rustic church, various pieces of antique farm equipment and a very popular rope swing.

The summers in Edmonton are already pretty short but as September rolled in we kept asking ourselves where did the summer in Edmonton go this year? It seemed like just yesterday we were out enjoying drinks on patios and having backyard BBQs so it’s hard to believe that we are already half-way through September and the leaves have already started to change and fall from the trees.

Fall is one of our favourite times of the year and also our busiest season for photography as everyone wants to take advantage of the milder weather and changing colours for portraits and weddings. The leaves hadn’t quite started to change yet but the cooler weather definitely arrived for Danielle & David’s outdoor wedding ceremony at the Edmonton Garrison Officers’ Mess at CFB Namao.

The day started out with both bridal parties getting ready at separate locations before heading to the base for the ceremony. Although it was a bit windy and quite cool, thankfully the rain held off for the ceremony and formal photos. Once formal photos were done and the bridal party had the chance to enjoy a few cocktails, it was time for the reception which was also held at the Edmonton Garrison Officer’s Mess.

Terri-Lynn started her day out at the Chateau Lacombe Hotel while the guys met up at Mike’s parents in St. Albert. Both Terri-Lynn and Mike left themselves plenty of time to get ready so both enjoyed a relaxed morning before heading down to the Royal Glenora Club where they held their ceremony outdoors on the patio. It was a beautiful day for the wedding and our favourite moment was seeing the look on Mike’s face when he read the inscription inside his ring which Terri-Lynn had inscribed. It read “You drank my Kool-aid”. So awesome!

After the ceremony, we headed to the River Valley and Mercer Tavern for formal photos before returning back to the Royal Glenora for their wedding reception. Enjoy some of our favourite moments from their wedding day.

After the ceremony at the church, we headed down into Edmonton’s River Valley for photographs with the bridal party and happy couple and then headed over to the University of Alberta for a few more photos with Amanda & Bryan before their reception. Thankfully the storm clouds held off just long enough to finish up photos at the University before retreating to West Edmonton Mall for their reception.

Now usually the focus on a wedding day is on the couple but another couple attending the wedding were also celebrating a significant milestone. Not only were Amanda & Bryan celebrating their wedding on this day, but they also took time at their reception to acknowledge Amanda’s grandparents who were celebrating their 60th Wedding Anniversary. They even arranged for a special cake and cake cutting ceremony to recognize this important milestone and her grandparents enjoyed a cute moment punctuated with a sweet kiss!

Needless to say, we were pretty excited when we met Michelle & Curtis and found out they were having their wedding and reception at Maligne Lake Chalet in Jasper National Park. It was our first time photographing a wedding at Maligne Lake Chalet and we couldn’t imagine a more romantic location for a wedding. Their intimate ceremony was held outdoors in the courtyard next to the chalet and their reception was held inside the lovely log chalet.

The day started with the guys getting ready in town while the girls got ready in the guest house next to the chalet. The weather gods managed to co-operate right up until the ceremony and the rain managed to hold off long enough for Michelle and Curtis to say their I do’s and get a few photos with their bridal party. Fortunately, they had scheduled a boat cruise to Spirit Island for all of their guests so just as the rain rolled in, it was time to board the boat and enjoy a lovely cruise out to Spirit Island complete with wine and cheese.

When we arrived at Spirit Island, the rain was still coming down but that didn’t dampen Michelle & Curtis’s spirit for doing photos (c’mon how could we pass up such a good pun..lol). So we popped out with umbrellas in hand to create some memorable images for them. After cruising out to Spirit Island, the wedding party and their guests headed back to the chalet for their reception. The rain finally let up as the sun was setting so we managed to sneak out to create a few more photos around Maligne Lake before the evening ended. Shaun loves to ride his motorbike and they both really wanted to incorporate his bike into an urban-inspired session. We decided to start their session behind the Art Gallery of Alberta to capture a few photographs with his bike before an outfit change and more photos in and around downtown Edmonton. We had a great time exploring some of the back alleys of downtown Edmonton and enjoyed getting to know Mariah and Shaun a bit better. Towards the end of their session, the skies began to get a bit darker and the weather forecast predicted rain would fall within the hour.

Since Shaun had ridden his motorcycle to the shoot, we made sure to finish up their photography session before the storm clouds rolled in so that he could get home safe and dry!

Both Mike and Daryll love sports and both of them have won major championships in volleyball so it was no surprise that their wedding party featured several tall individuals which made photography interesting considering we are both under 5’9.

The day started out with the girls getting ready at the Westin. Daryll looked absolutely radiant in her dress from Novelle Bridal. Once the girls were ready, we headed over to the University of Alberta for a first look in front of the Old Arts building. The weather was beautiful but the mosquitoes were out in full force so we did our best to stick to areas that didn’t have a lot of grass so we could avoid passing out from blood loss.

Once Daryll & Mike had some time to soak in the fact that they were getting married, we spent some time wandering around the University for photos with them and their awesome bridal party before heading Craft for a few pre-wedding cocktails and then it was on to the Shaw Conference Centre for their ceremony and reception.

We met up with Danielle & David a couple of weeks ago on a warm summer evening at the McTaggart Sanctuary in south Edmonton to photograph their engagement session. If you’ve never explored this part of the city, it’s a wonderful location to go for a light hike and feel like you’ve completely left the city. If you are adventurous enough to get off the beaten path a bit, you’ll find tons of secluded spots that make you feel like you’ve left Edmonton and wound up in the mountains.

Fortunately, Danielle & David were up for a short hike (even in cute flats) and we found ourselves at a lovely little pond, surrounded by soaring pine trees so that made for a cute first spot to stop for our first set of photos. From there we continued to explore the trails and chased the light until we found ourselves back at the cute little blue bridge that connects the sanctuary to the parking lot.

It was another beautiful spring night and after a week of rain in the city, everything in the park was really looking lush and green. We loved how Amanda & Bryan coordinated their outfits for their session. We are often asked by our couples about what they should wear for their session and our advice is to choose something you’ll both be comfortable in. You should also try to dress at the same level of formality. That doesn’t mean you have to wear a fancy ball gown & tuxedo but you should both decide whether you’re going to go for casual or slightly dressy. It doesn’t look coordinated in photos if one person goes totally casual in shorts & a t-shirt while the other person goes a little more dressy. When choosing your outfits, also try to work from the same palette like Amanda & Bryan did for their session. They chose blue as their base colour and then put together the rest of their outfits from there. The days of those family sessions where everyone is in jeans and black t-shirts are well behind us so you don’t have to match exactly but try to pull from the same palette as much as possible as it really ties things together in the photo and makes you like more unified.

Couples often ask us where we should go to do their engagement photos and there is no one right answer. Some couples like to choose a location that has some sentimental meaning to them like the place where they first met or went on on their first date.  Perhaps it’s their favourite neighbourhood where they like to go for walks or a location that reflects something they like to do together as a couple. Another thing to consider when choosing a location for your engagement photos is where you plan to do your wedding photos. If you’re planning a rustic barn wedding and photos in a natural setting like a park, perhaps you want something more urban-inspired for your engagement photos like Chantal & Rhys wanted.

In terms of when to do your engagement session, we recommend doing the session at least six months prior to the wedding, particularly if you want to use your engagement photos for things like your invitations or save the date cards. Most couples will also try to schedule their sessions during a different season from their wedding so that they have a variety of photos of themselves at different times of the year. For summer weddings, many couples like to do their engagement photos either in the spring or fall but don’t be afraid of scheduling something during the winter months as well.

Fort Edmonton Park is one of our favourite locations for photography sessions. The large park offers a wide variety of photographic opportunities without having to travel a far distance. We could probably shoot here at least once per week for an entire year and not run out of ideas and places to create amazing photographs. If you happen to be having your wedding at the park, having access to a variety of indoor and outdoor locations without having to arrange transportation to another location can definitely be a great timesaver. Even if you’re not having your event here, you can still make a private booking to use the park for your photography session and do your engagement photos at Fort Edmonton Park.

Riya loves anything Kate Spade so her entire outfit including her dress, shoes, and purse were all from Kate Spade and it looked amazing on her. We loved the sunflower theme and Sarah was tempted to sneak off with her purse but we’re pretty sure Riya would have noticed it was missing.

After we were done taking photos at the Art Gallery, we popped across the street to take a few more photos inside Edmonton’s City Hall which also features some stunning architecture.

We can’t wait to photograph Riya & Sumeer’s engagement party on our wedding anniversary this July and we’re looking forward to their wedding which is taking place later in December.

After capturing some family love on their front porch, we left the cats behind and headed out to a beautiful nature reserve in Sherwood Park where Amanda & Andrew like to go for walks with Henry. Along the way Amanda & Andrew told us that we’d likely encounter an eagle’s nest. Not only did we come across the nest, we were fortunate enough to catch both the male and female eagle in the nest which they’ve never seen while on their walks.

It’s been operating for a couple of years but just last year they built a brand-new rustic barn which can be used for wedding ceremonies and receptions. The forecast for the weekend looks good so we’ll likely be photographing the wedding ceremony outdoors but it’s nice to know that there is a beautiful indoor space that they can use just in case.

The day started with Chris & Jeremiah getting ready at the Matrix Hotel in downtown Edmonton. Both guys looked awesome in their suits and accessories from Derks Menswear. Chris & Jeremiah also opted for some really nice his & his gold bands from Ben Moss Jewellers. Once the guys were ready, we headed out to the University of Alberta to do some of their formal photographs before meeting up with family for a pre-wedding dinner at Mercer Tavern.

After dinner it was time for the main event at the Muttart. Tammy Banting from Meaningful Ceremonies officiated their ceremony which concluded with Chris & Jeremiah sealing a wine time capsule which contained love letters to each other. The time capsule is meant to be opened on their 10th Anniversary but if at anytime during their marriage they run into a rough patch, the capsule can be opened and they can read their love letters while they enjoy a nice bottle of wine.

After the ceremony it was time for Chris & Jeremiah to celebrate the night away with their close friends and family. Entertainment was provided by Baseline and A Capella Catering provided appetizers and refreshments for the guests. Here is a look back at some of the hilites from their wedding day. Thanks to Lauren Hucal and Jill Coursen for being my second shooters while Sarah was away dealing with a family issue.

After their ceremony, our guide from the JPL drove us around the property on a golf cart and we found some great spots to photograph the happy couple and their wedding party. We even managed to get a few photos with an unexpected wedding crasher in the form of a female Elk who proved to be more than a little curious about what we were doing.

After we were done photographs, we headed back to the Jasper Park Lodge to capture some nice candids of their family and friends during their dinner and reception at Orso Trattoria. It was a great way to cap off their day.

The day started out with the girls getting ready at a hotel in the West End while they guys all got ready at one of the groomsmen’s houses. It was a little hectic as some last minute details with a liquor license had to get sorted out but once that was taken care of, it was time to head to BBQ Acres for the intimate outdoor ceremony. Despite the cold weather, the love emanating from Anna & Ryan kept everyone warm while Anna’s father officiated the ceremony.

BBQ Acres was an amazing location for photographs so we didn’t have to worry about travelling anywhere after the ceremony for photos. We had a blast with their wedding party and they kindly introduced us to our new favourite winter drink – Winter Jack.

When planning their wedding day, one of the most important elements for them was that everyone enjoyed themselves, enjoyed some laughs, and most importantly enjoyed a fantastic meal. Mike is a chef and Erin is also a foodie so a lot of care and attention went into preparing the dinner which Mike planned and executed with the help of friends and family. The day before the wedding, Erin shopped the local farmers market for fresh ingredients and everyone enjoyed an amazing spread at their reception which was held at the Lakedale Hall in Westerose.

The day started out at Kaitlin’s parents farm in Radway where all the girls were getting ready. The house was filled with laughter, excitement, and anticipation for the day ahead. Meanwhile, the guys were getting ready over at Kaitlin & Stephen’s house a few miles away and featured one of the groomsmen wearing a lovely lime green Borat singlet. Very nice!

Their Ukrainian Orthodox ceremony was held in a tiny church in Waskatenau and was briefly interrupted by a severe thunderstorm which thankfully passed just as the ceremony was wrapping up which allowed us to do family photos and bridal formals at a couple of family farms in the area before heading back to Radway for their fun reception.

Thanks again Kaitlin & Stephen for inviting us to capture your day. We really enjoyed getting to know you and your families and we enjoyed spending time with them and all of your friends. The day started out in Sherwood Park where Judith and her bridesmaids were all getting ready. While Bruce photographed the girls, Sarah headed over to Robert’s mom’s house to catch a few photos of the guys getting ready before they headed downtown for the ceremony. It was pouring rain while they were getting ready but thankfully the rain stopped by the time they had their ceremony so nobody got drenched making their way from the limos inside the Winspear Centre.

After their ceremony, we headed out to the amazing Renaissance Hotel next to the Edmonton International Airport for a few more photographs with Judith & Robert and their wedding party before making our way to Red Tail Landing where they held their reception. The day started out in St. Albert with the girls getting pampered at Bliss Hair by Design while the guys got ready at Thomas’s parents house. Afterwards, we headed back to Heather’s parents house where the girls finished getting ready and where we got to meet 10 week old Wallace the Westie. He was so adorable and he may have stolen a little bit of the show that day.

 Once everyone was ready, we headed downtown for their ceremony at Robertson Wesley United Church which we’ve had the pleasure of photographing in several times. It’s a beautiful old church with amazing stained glass windows so we were so happy that we had a few minutes after family photos to duck back inside and create a few photographs of the bride and groom inside the church. Afterwards we headed to a local park in Edmonton’s River Valley for photographs with the bridal party.

After surviving the mosquitoes and the heat for their formals session, we headed to the Matrix Hotel for their reception and dance.

Faith is important to both Megan and to Erik. Erik is on his way to becoming a pastor and that faith was reflected in their beautiful ceremony which included a fun reading from the Emperor’s New Clothes. Before the ceremony, everyone predicted that Erik would be the first one to cry but in fact it was Megan who teared up first. When we asked Erik about it after, he told us that the reason he didn’t cry was because he was caught off-guard by Megan crying and didn’t know what to do. So cute!

After the ceremony, we did some family photos in St. Albert and then headed to the University of Alberta for some photographs with the bridal party at St. Joseph’s College. Unfortunately Mother Nature decided to deliver some long overdue rain so we had to seek shelter indoors for part of the session but Megan and Erik were troopers, armed themselves with a couple of umbrellas and braved the elements for a few more photographs outside.

Their day ended with a fun reception at the Polish Hall which has been recently renovated and offers a nice contemporary location for a reception in Edmonton. Both of us are cupcake connoisseurs so we have to give high praise to everyone involved in making the cupcakes that Megan and Erik served for dessert. The icing on the Oreo cookie cupcakes was divine!

Thanks again Megan and Erik for choosing us to capture your wedding day. Enjoy your Hawaiian honeymoon. We can’t wait to share the rest of the photographs with you when you get back.

Since their wedding is taking place in the city and they both spend a fair amount of time out in the country and on the farm, they wanted to do their engagement session in more of a rural setting. Friends of their family were kind enough to allow us to use their farm and fields for a country-inspired engagement session in the wheat and canola fields. The crops we are few weeks behind due to the unusually dry summer we’ve been having in Edmonton but fortunately there was enough there to work with.

The day started out at the Best Western in St. Albert where both the guys and girls were getting ready and this was our first peek at some of the fun details they had incorporated into making their day special and unique.

Their ceremony was held at the St. Albert Grain Elevator Park and this was the first time we’ve photographed a wedding there. It offers many great locations for photography and we could have shot there all day but unfortunately another wedding party had the park booked after their ceremony so we only had enough time to photograph the ceremony and family photographs in the park. It was a beautiful ceremony officiated by their friend Tyler. Cassie & James literally had the cutest ring bearers and flower girl we’ve ever seen and they really enjoyed the superhero theme which allowed them to wear superhero capes.

After their ceremony we headed to the St. Albert Botanical Gardens for photographs with the bridal party. We had to make sure to avoid going into the actual botanical gardens because Cassie has a severe allergic reaction to many different types of flowers and even the smell can cause her to have problems breathing. Definitely not something we want to have happen to one of our brides on her wedding day so we stuck to the outsides of the park and found some nice shady areas to escape the heat.

After formals, we headed out the Morinville Community Centre for their reception where the superhero theme continued with an awesome seating chart, candy table, comic book paper flowers, and a wedding cake that featured one half traditional and the other half Batman themed. The bridesmaids were even confronted by several villains when they made their entrance but thankfully their groomsmen superheroes showed up to help save the day!

The day started out with getting ready photographs at Michelle & Gabe’s home where the boys were all getting ready. Sarah stayed with the boys while Bruce headed over to Michelle’s parent’s house where Michelle and her bridesmaids were getting ready.

Their ceremony was held at Our Lady of Fatima Portuguese Church in Edmonton’s Newton district. We’re not convinced that the flower girl was excited about her role but perhaps it was just heat.

After the ceremony we headed to the University of Alberta for family photos and photographs with the bridal party & happy couple. En route we made a quick stop at Newton School where everyone met and grew up together and took a few photographs with Gabe’s father’s sweet 57 Chev.

Gabe & Michelle held their reception at the Capilano Conference Centre. During the speeches, a really sweet moment happened when Michelle & Gabe’s son Eusebio grabbed the microphone and reminded everyone to not drink and dive. Pretty insightful for a little guy who still won’t be able to get his driver’s license for at least another 14-16 years.

The day started out at the hotel with both Larry & Sue getting ready. The girls looked radiant as they got their hair and makeup done by the talented Lauriane Rutberg. Meanwhile the guys were getting ready in the room next door so we had to be careful that the bride and groom didn’t run into each other beforehand as they wanted to save their first look for when Sue came down the aisle.

Once everyone was ready we headed to Santa Maria Goretti for their ceremony. I loved seeing Sue and her mom take a selfie in the limo on the way to church. So cute!

After the ceremony, we headed to the University of Alberta for some photographs with the family and wedding party before we headed back to the Hotel MacDonald for a few more photos and their amazing reception. The Wedgwood Room at the Hotel MacDonald always looks so beautiful and Rebecca and her team from High Culture did an amazing job taking it to that next level with beautiful florals from Fabloomosity. Each centrepiece was unique and featured a place where Sue & Larry had travelled or plan to travel in the future. The evening was capped off with a beautiful performance by Sue’s daughters who paid tribute to the new couple with a beautiful song.

The day started off with the girls getting ready at the Matrix Hotel and the guys getting ready over at Devin’s dad’s house. It was a fun relaxed morning as everyone was getting ready and the anticipation for the big event began to build.

The ceremony was held on the back patio of the Royal Glenora Club in Edmonton’s River Valley. It was a very hot day with temperatures in the +30s but thankfully the large umbrellas and trees provided some relief from the direct sun for the ceremony. After their ceremony, we headed over to Mercer Tavern to escape the heat and enjoy a few refreshing beverages with the bridal party. It also made a fun location to photograph the wedding party and get some nice candids of them relaxing and enjoying the day together.

After enjoying some downtime at Mercer Tavern, we headed back to the Royal Glenora Club for Crystal & Devin’s reception and a few more photographs in the River Valley in the cooler temps. We were invited to photograph a styled wedding at the lodge in the middle of April and we couldn’t think of a better couple to invite on the shoot than our good friends Jacqueline and Bob who’s wedding we photographed last year at the Calgary Zoo. Bob was secretly excited as he really wanted a winter wedding and boy did Mother Nature deliver. Alpine Helicopters delivered us from dry and sunny Golden into a winter wonderland which saw almost 5 feet of snow fall in the 48 hours were at the lodge.

The reception was a beautiful event designed by Jennifer Bergman Weddings with florals by faBLOOMosity, entertainment by Urban Metropolis, cake by The Art of Cake and decor rental from Look Events & Special Event Rentals. Justine Ma designed the stationery and did all of the hand letterings while Stefanie Carlson and Janna Huget from Behind the Blush did Nicole’s hair and makeup.

It’s also a great opportunity to shoot some creative sessions so I joined up with several other photographers from across Canada, the US, and Europe to photograph a styled wedding session at Red Rock Canyon. Now you would think that coming from Canada, shooting out the in the desert would be a welcomed break from a Canadian winter but on this particular day, Mother Nature decided to show up with some wind, rain, fog, sleet, and even some snow so it actually felt colder than back at home.

Kasandra and Roger were our brave couple and they were so awesome braving the frigid temperatures and gusty winds in just a suit and wedding dress. I felt guilty about wearing a jacket. Here are a few of the images I captured during the session.

After everyone was ready, we headed over to the Francis Winspear for their ceremony. The lobby of the Winspear is a beautiful location for a wedding ceremony and the nice overcast day gave us some nice light to work with. Michelle looked radiant as she came down the aisle with her parents and Marcus’s face lit up when he saw her for the first time in her wedding dress. The ceremony was officiated by Joan Tkaczyk from Thakx on Time.

After the ceremony we headed outside for a quick photo session downtown before heading back to the warm confines of the Hotel MacDonald for their reception. We loved Michelle and Marcus’s creative decor which included a periodic table of the elements seating chart and each table represented a different element on the chart.

Our day started out at the Matrix Hotel where everyone was getting ready. Once everyone was ready we headed down into the River Valley for their first look followed by some photographs of the wedding party and the happy couple who were real troopers for hanging out in the snow and cold to make some amazing images.

Before their ceremony, we made a quick stop at Mercer Tavern so everyone could warm up and enjoy a few cocktails before the rest of the festivities began. From there we headed over to Latitude 53 for their intimate ceremony surrounded by family and friends.

Kelsa & Shane’s reception was held at St. John’s Cultural Centre and featured a live Ukrainian band and an amazing performance by a Ukrainian Dance Group.

We were so excited to photograph their wedding which featured so many great personal touches that were uniquely Sharon & Mack. Our day started out with a quick first look at Beaver Hills Park before heading up to Sharon & Mack’s condo for a traditional Chinese tea ceremony with their parents. Sharon & Mack live on 104th Street and spend a lot of time at the market so after the ceremony they wanted some fun casual shots of them walking through the market.

Afterwards we headed over to McKay Avenue School for their wedding ceremony and family photographs. It was a small intimate ceremony surrounded by their family and close friends. After the ceremony, guests were invited to mingle and enjoy a delicious waffle from Eva Sweet’s Waffle Truck which was parked outside waiting to feed their guests while we did family photos.

Thank goodness photography is physically demanding or I may have gained 30 lbs photographing this wedding as our next stop was one of Sharon & Mack’s favourite spots to grab a quick bit – Route 99 diner. Of course we couldn’t make a pit step there without enjoying a tasty plate of poutine. It also made a fun location for some candid photos while they enjoyed a quick bite with their wedding party.

After grabbing some lunch we headed to nearby Mill Creek Ravine for photographs with the bridal party and with Sharon & Mack. It was a bit chilly but the fall colours in the ravine made for a beautiful setting.

After we were done photographing bridal formals in Mill Creek Ravine we made a quick stop at Alexander Circle before heading to Rge Rd for their reception. If you haven’t visited Rge Rd before you’ll want to make a reservation ASAP. Blair and his team over there create some amazing food and it made for a great intimate location for Sharon & Mack’s reception. Their reception was probably one of the top 2 meals I’ve ever had and the Pana Cotta dessert was amazing.

Once again I’d like to thank Sharon & Mack for choosing us to photograph their wedding. Special thanks to Haley Erdegard for 2nd shooting this one with me while Sarah was recovering from a medical issue.

Nadine & Jordan both got ready at separate hotels so we split up to document the preparations.

Nadine and Jordan decided that they wanted to do a first look before their ceremony and are we ever glad they did as it produced probably one of the best groom reactions we’ve had the joy of witnessing. Jordan was so blown away by seeing Nadine for the first time in her wedding dress. Every groom should look at his bride the way Jordan looked at Nadine. Once we finished the first look, it was time to get ready for the ceremony at St. Albert Botanic Park. It was a beautiful day for an outdoor ceremony and the gardens make a lovely spot to exchange your vows.

After the ceremony, we spent some time in St. Albert with the wedding party and the happy couple to document their love and friendship before heading to the Highland Golf & Country Club for their reception.

Shannon & David started the day getting ready at separate hotels on Whyte Avenue before heading to the Faculty Club at the University of Alberta for their ceremony and reception.

After their ceremony we headed to the High Level Bridge which was where Shannon & David had their first date. They really wanted to include some shots on the bridge in their day so made sure to make time in the photography schedule to visit the bridge for a few fun shots. Afterward, we headed down into Edmonton’s majestic River Valley for a few more photographs of the happy couple before we headed back to the Faculty Club for their reception.

The day started with both Leslie and Kevin getting ready at the Oasis Centre so they could do a first look before we headed to the U of A for photographs with them and their wedding party. Leslie surprised Kevin with a beautiful bear carving that Kevin had admired during a recent trip to the mountains. He nicknamed him Bruin.

We managed to photograph their formals at the U of A before the rain started and make it back in time for the ceremony without getting soaked.  Here are a few of our favourites from their session.

Leslie & Kevin’s ceremony was simple and elegant and was followed by cocktails and a wonderful reception at the Oasis Centre with plenty of dancing, fabulous food, and a gift to Leslie & Kevin’s guests – only 2 speeches!

Faith is important to both Andrea and Jonathan. They didn’t want to see each other before the ceremony but they wanted to have a few minutes together beforehand to pray so we did our very first “No Look First Look”. Once they were both ready, we took them down to the lobby of the hotel and found a spot with two pillars where they could hold hands and be together without ruing the surprise of seeing each other for the first time. It was a really sweet moment and I’m sure they were both tempted to sneak a peek of the other but neither did.

Once they were both ready, we headed to the beautiful Devonian Botanical Gardens for their outdoor ceremony. In lieu of a sand ceremony, Andrea and Jonathan included another unique element in their day in the form of a unity cross that they assembled and will display in their home.

Once the ceremony was complete, we gathered up the family and wedding party and headed to the Japanese gardens for portraits. Here are a few of our favourites with their wedding party.

Once we were finished with family formals and the bridal party, we spent the rest of the afternoon with Andrea and Jonathan before heading to  the Devon Community Hall for their reception. Here are just  a few of our favourites from our time together.

For their engagement session, Sharon & Mack wanted to do something that reflects two of the things they are passionate about. Edmonton’s vibrant downtown and the local food scene. We started their session on the footbridge that connects Louise McKinney Park and Henrietta Louise Edwards Park which provided a great backdrop with the city skyline. Afterward, we headed to one of their favourite spots in the city for some wine and tapas – Tzin Wine Bar on 104th Street.

Our day started out by photographing everyone getting ready at the hotel which is always one of our favourite parts of the wedding day to photograph. There are usually a lot of emotions before the ceremony and plenty of laughs as stories are exchanged between good friends and family members.

Terri & Nathan are very active in their church and they held their ceremony at Bethel Community Church in north Edmonton.

Afterward we headed to nearby Rundle Park to do photos with the family and wedding party.

From there we headed back to the south side of the city to photograph their reception at the Celtic Hall. We had a great time with Terri & Nathan and we look forward to sharing the rest of their images with them.

Kim & Conrad were introduced to us by fellow photographer Tom Lim and we were thrilled to photograph their special day which started out at Crystal Orchid Hair Design with the girls getting ready. Afterward, Sarah headed over to get a few shots of the guys getting dressed. While all of this was happening, Kim & Conrad’s amazing wedding planner Lori from Crystal Orchid Weddings, was busy transforming one of the conference rooms at the Black Knight Inn into a beautiful room for their ceremony. Originally they had planned to have their ceremony in a park in downtown Red Deer but a nasty summer storm hit overnight. Brides – this is exactly the reason you should always have a Plan B if you’re planning to have an outdoor wedding in Alberta at any time of year.

After their ceremony, the weather was still pretty bad so we made our way over to Dentoom’s Greenhouse for photographs with the bridal party. Special thanks to Rebecca & her mom for allowing us to take shelter from the storm in your beautiful greenhouse. Once we were done photographing the happy couple and their bridal party, we headed back to the Black Knight Inn for their reception. Lori did an amazing job with the decor and the room looked amazing. We particularly loved the table markers that Kim & Conrad chose which featured photographs of them at different ages based upon the table number. Such a cute idea!

We drive past it all the time but this was our first time photographing a wedding at St. Josaphat’s and it’s a beautiful church inside with very ornate decorations and paintings.

After the ceremony, we headed down to the Muttart Conservatory for photographs with Larysa & Dylan’s family and the bridal party. We were also joined by the bride & groom’s beautiful German Shepard. The weather held out for the most part and we only had to duck under trees for cover a couple of times.

After photos at the Muttart, the bridal party headed to MKT to enjoy a few refreshments and we took the opportunity to do a few more photographs with the wedding party and happy couple.

From there we headed to the northside for their wedding reception at the Chateau Louis Hotel. Larysa & Dylan love to read and incorporated some personalized decor including a library-themed seating chart complete with old school sign out cards that you’d find in the back of your library books.

We started the day photographing Amanda and her two sisters getting ready at the Hotel MacDonald where their ceremony was going to be held. The Hotel MacDonald is one of Edmonton’s most popular wedding venues and Amanda and Ryan chose to have their ceremony on the back patio so thankfully it was a gorgeous day for them but rain or shine, it’s always a treat when we get to photograph a wedding there.

Amanda’s brother officiated their intimate ceremony which included a sand ceremony to signify two lives coming together as one. Amanda & Ryan’s son was their ring bearer and they also had the cutest flower girl who I think just wanted to have a cup of juice on a hot summer day than walk down the aisle.

After the ceremony we took advantage of the beautiful grounds around the hotel to create photographs with the bride and groom, their families, and their wedding party. In case you couldn’t guess, Amanda’s favourite color is pink as evident from the details and bridesmaid’s dresses. We loved Amanda’s peony bouquet designed by Janine at faBLOOMosity – one of our favourite florists.

Once we finished photographing the happy couple and their wedding party, we headed into the Wedgwood room for their reception which was a nice laid back affair featuring a delicious meal and a fabulous candy bar complete with chocolate fountain.

Once Alyssa was ready, we headed over to Mount Olivet Lutheran Church for their ceremony. Pastor Bruce conducted a lighthearted ceremony that included some entertaining gifts & marriage advice for the lucky couple. After their ceremony, we headed to nearby Smeltzer House for family photographs before heading over the University of Alberta for formal photographs with the bridal party.

After photographing some of the formals, we stopped off at Henrietta Louise Edwards Park to grab a few more photographs of the happy couple before heading over to the Shaw Conference Centre for their reception and we were treated to some gorgeous mid-afternoon Alberta sunshine.

Once we were finished at the park, we made our way across the river to the Shaw Conference Centre for Alyssa & David’s reception in the Riverfront Room to round out the day.

After the ceremony, we headed down to the Shaw Conference Centre to photograph the bridal party and the happy couple. It was a gorgeous afternoon and due to the late spring, we even managed to catch the choke cherry trees in bloom.

Once we finished photographing the bridal party, we headed back to the Santa Maria Goretti Community Centre for Angela & Clint’s reception. Sofia from Awespiring Events did an amazing job planning their day and the details at their reception from Dress My Day, Special Event Rentals, and Elegant Touches, transformed the centre into a beautiful reception site. Janine and her team from faBloomosity worked their usual magic with the floral arrangements and centrepieces and one of the features of the room was the beautiful 4 tier cake from Simply Elegant Cakes.

Angela and Clint had a fabulous dinner and plenty of laughs were shared during speeches, including learning more about Clint and his propensity to relieve himself where he shouldn’t. We also learned a bit more about Angela & Clint as they endured the popular shoe game where they each took turns deciding who was the better cook, who spent more money, and who would be the first to go to sleep on their wedding night.

Both Bob & Jack are huge animal lovers. They own two Chihuahuas named Charlie and Bella and Bob grew up on a farm in Thorsby surrounded by animals. Jacqueline also sat on the board for the Edmonton Valley Zoo so it was appropriate that they decided to hold their wedding at the Calgary Zoo.

The day started out with the girls getting ready at a downtown condo while the boys enjoyed a few refreshments poolside at the Hotel Arts after getting into their awesome suits from Derk’s. Even though they didn’t come to the wedding, both Bella & Charlie were still part of the day and we loved their wedding attire.

Bob gave Jacqueline a beautiful string of pearls and Jack surprised Bob with flying lessons. We loved capturing both of their reactions to each other’s gifts.

Jacqueline would not let her bridesmaids see her dress before the wedding day despite their best efforts to find out what it looked like. She really wanted to surprise them on the wedding day with a ‘first look’. Their reactions were awesome.

Naturally Bella and Charlie had to get some cuddles and love from mom before she headed off to the ceremony.

The ceremony was held outdoors near the Enmax Conservatory at the Calgary Zoo and was officiated by Matt Jeneroux, MLA for Edmonton South-west.

After their ceremony, Bob & Jack had a special date with the penguins at the zoo! We were allowed to head into the penguin enclosure where Bob, Jack and their best man and maid of honour were allowed to feed the penguins. One cheeky penguin even tried nesting in Jack’s dress! It was a pretty amazing experience being able to get up close and personal with these amazing birds.

After our date with the penguins, we met up with the rest of the bridal party to do a few photographs around the grounds of the Calgary Zoo. Bob & Jack’s wedding party was so much fun and we had a great time getting to know all of them.
Anyone who knows Jack knows that giraffes are her favourite animal. Originally we were going to be allowed into the giraffe enclosure to do photographs but unfortunately at the last minute, the trainers at the zoo decided that we wouldn’t be allowed into the enclosure so we had to settle for a few photographs outside but thankfully the giraffes were cooperative and curious enough to pose for a couple of quick photographs.

Once formal photographs were finished, we headed back to the Enmax Conservatory to do family photos and then headed into their reception. Jack’s co-host of the CISN Morning show, Chris Sheetz, was the MC for the evening and throughout dinner, friends, family and loved ones had nothing but beautiful things to say about the happy couple.

Bob & Jack, we can’t thank you enough for honouring us by choosing us to photograph your wedding day. You made us feel so welcomed and your friends and family were amazing. We loved every minute of your day and can’t wait to share the rest of your images with you soon. A special thanks to Angela Moberg who assisted us and provided some great candid coverage. Lynn & Lance win the award for the couple we’ve photographed who travelled the furthest distance to get married in Edmonton. Lynn & Lance live in Shanghai but Lance is originally from Edmonton and his mother still lives in the city so they decided to have a traditional western wedding in Edmonton. This also gave Lynn the perfect opportunity to travel to Lance’s hometown and meet some of Lance’s friends and family who live in North America.

Their ceremony was held at Robertson-Wesley United Church followed by a reception at the beautiful Fairmont Hotel MacDonald. Since they live in China, this was one of the few times we weren’t able to meet our couple until their wedding day, however, Sarah had known Lance back when he went to school with Sarah’s brother and her friend Brenda.

The day started out at the Hotel Mac where Lynn & her sister were getting ready. I woke up battling a stomach bug and didn’t think I was going to make it so I called in our good friend & fellow photographer Michel Austin as a backup, just in case I couldn’t make it through the day. Thanks again Michel for being there to back me up! Fortunately, I managed to suck it up and battled through whatever it was that I had been battling for the past week or so but it was great knowing someone else was there to back me up in case I went down.

The ceremony at the church began with an emotional candle lighting ceremony in honour of Lance’s father who had recently passed away. Lynn was walked down the aisle by Lance’s brother Todd and needless to say Lance looked very pleased to see his stunning bride in her wedding dress.

After the ceremony, we headed back to the Hotel MacDonald to take formal photographs with the bridal and a few family photographs before dinner. While we were taking photographs, guests enjoyed a cocktail reception in the beautiful Wedgwood room before dinner was served in the Empire Ballroom.

While weddings are generally about celebrating the present and looking towards the future, it’s also a great opportunity to reflect on the past and remember those who helped the lucky couple get to where they are. We loved the vintage details and the nods to their parents & grandparents that Victoria & Tim included on their wedding day. Victoria looked stunning wearing her mother’s wedding dress from the 1950s. It was accessorized beautifully with her grandmother’s pearls and earrings. Victoria & Tim also exchanged rings that previously belonged to their parents. faBLOOMosity provided Victoria’s gorgeous bouquet which featured a hand-made wrap that Victoria’s mother stitched.

Before the snow fell, we managed to squeeze in a few engagement sessions with couples who had booked us for 2014. Here are a few of our favourites from our shoot with Nadine & Jordan and their lovely fur baby – Bella. We met Nadine a couple of years ago when Sarah’s brother was at the Cross Cancer Institute where Nadine was working as a nurse so it was great to connect with her again and meet her adoring fiancé Jordan for a fun session in Mill Creek Ravine.

Looking ahead to 2014 we have some awesome things in store and we can’t wait for the 2014 wedding season to start. That being said we are excited to start sharing some recent engagement sessions that we photographed just before heading out to Australia in November.

First up is Jacqueline and Bob. Bruce first met Jacqueline back in 2011 when she was the Delux Burger Celebrity Chef. Shortly thereafter, he had the pleasure of photographing Jacqueline again for Edmontonians Top 20 Under 30 when she worked at Shaw TV. Since that time, Jacqueline has moved on to be the morning co-host on CISN Country FM. We were so excited when Jack announced she was engaged to Bob and that they wanted us to be their wedding photographers.

Animals are a big part of Jacqueline and Bob’s life. So much so that their wedding next year is taking place at the Calgary Zoo! Jacqueline has been very involved with the Edmonton Valley Zoo and Bob comes from a farming family. They are proud parents to two loveable Chihuahuas so of course we had to make sure there were plenty of animals involved in their engagement session.

Sarah started the day hanging out with the guys and I love these shots of Jeff opening Patricia’s gift to him – a gorgeous gold pocket watch.

Patricia and Jeff are both designers so there were several design elements incorporated into their details including Jeff’s cool cufflinks.

Bruce spent the morning with the girls while they got ready at Patricia & Jeff’s condo downtown. As evidenced by the photo below, the girls were having a great time and there was plenty of laughter throughout the morning.

Patricia and Jeff were married at the Assumption Parish on the southside.

After their ceremony we headed down to Louise McKinney Park for some photographs with the bridal party before heading over to the Sutton Place Hotel for their wedding reception.

The fall colours were just starting to make their appearance in Edmonton’s River Valley.

Loved all of the typographic inspired details that Patricia and Jeff had at their reception.

After their first look, we wandered around the hotel to do some portraits with their fun wedding party and then they stopped off at the Confederation Lounge to relax and enjoy a few beverages prior to their ceremony.

After we finished doing photographs at the Hotel Mac, we headed down the street to the old Paramount Theatre which is now home to the City Centre Church.

After the ceremony we made our way over to the Shaw Conference Centre where Lorelei and Vik were having their reception. The room looked beautiful with a gorgeous fall colour scheme designed by Katherine from Elegant Touches

Their reception also featured a great performance from traditional Indian dancers and DJ Kwake and Harman B from Urban Metropolis kept the party going all night long.

Thanks again for inviting us to share in your special day. Special mention to our two assistants Angela and Lauren for dragging around our gear in the pouring rain. We couldn’t have done it without you guys!

We started the day photographing the girls getting ready at Jolene’s parents beautiful acreage in Sherwood Park. The girls were real troopers braving the mosquitoes so we could photograph Jolene getting into her dress in their beautiful backyard.

Jolene & Morgan held their ceremony outdoors behind the lodge at the Sunridge Ski Area. The weather in the morning looked great but just as the ceremony was about to start we could see a big storm making it’s way across the river to the ceremony site. Despite the threat of rain, the ceremony moved forward and Jolene & Morgan just managed to say their ‘I do’s’ just before the rain really picked up and everyone had to run for shelter in the lodge. 5 mins later the skies opened up and it rained as hard as we’ve seen it rain in quite sometime with a bit of hail mixed in just for good measure.

After the ceremony we all piled into the limo and headed down to Whyte Ave where the wedding party swapped stories and had some good laughs over a few beverages at MKT and Blues on Whyte before heading back to the Sunridge Ski Area for the reception.

After hitting up a couple hot spots on Whyte Ave, we headed back to the Sunridge Ski Area for their reception. Jolene & Morgan really enjoy wine and they had one of the most amazing cakes we’ve ever seen. At first glance we thought the glasses were real but we found out that they were made from spun sugar. Jolene & Morgan also had a giant bottle of wine that they used as their guest book and will be something they can enjoy on one of their anniversaries down the road.

We started the day out in St. Albert with Stephanie and her girls getting ready at Tangled Hair Salon.

From there we headed back to Stephanie’s mom’s house where everyone finished getting ready before heading back into Edmonton for the wedding ceremony at Edmonton Free Methodist Church. We loved Stephanie’s dress and found a great location in her mom’s house to show it off.

Steph & Buddy exchanged their vows in front of a packed house at the church and ended their ceremony by tying three ropes in a ceremonial knot representing the joining of their two lives with god.

After their ceremony, we headed down to one of our favourite locations for photographs – Fort Edmonton Park.

I LOVED Stephanie’s goofy face. If you aren’t having some fun on your wedding day you’re doing it all wrong.

Loved this shot of the guys that Sarah captured.

We could have stayed at Fort Edmonton Park all afternoon and shot but we did have a wedding reception at the Ramada Inn on Kingsway to get to eventually.

Loved this moment between Kelly & her mom.

Kahlua didn’t want to be left out of the getting ready prep either and I don’t think she wanted her mom to leave.

I think everyone in the room had a few tears in their eyes when Kelly’s dad saw her for the first time in her wedding dress.

Gideon’s reaction when he first saw Kelly was priceless.

Some of Gideon’s family travelled all the way from Australia to celebrate with him.

We had some great laughs with the wedding party as we did their formals after the ceremony out at Hastings Lake Gardens. It was our first time shooting there and there are so many great spots out there photography so it was great to be able to jump right into formals after the ceremony without having to travel anywhere. Special shout out to Dot and her husband who look after things out there. At some point during the day, Sarah lost a leather bracelet that her brother had given to her right before he passed away last year from cancer. Thankfully Dot’s husband found it in the parking lot later in the day and Sarah was able to get it back.

Kelly and Gideon were such a treat to photograph. Don’t they just look stunning?

While I was photographing the wedding party, Sarah headed over the Scottish Hall to photograph their details and it was one of the prettiest rooms we’ve seen. K&G did such an amazing job with the details and we loved all the special touches they included.

I started the day at Allison’s parent’s house while Sarah and Angela headed downtown to photograph the guys getting ready before heading over to the church.

In this digital world that we live in, it’s so nice to go into someone’s home and see actual photographs on the wall. As a photographer it warms our heart to see family photographs proudly displayed instead of just hiding out on a computer.

Sarah and Angela headed over to the guy’s place to catch them getting ready before they headed to the church for the wedding ceremony. Thomas was sporting some really nice custom cufflinks.

Allison & Thomas’s Ukrainian Orthodox ceremony was held at St. Anthony’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church in West Edmonton. We’ve photographed a few Orthodox weddings before but each one always has it’s own special touches and unique aspects that make photographing weddings always interesting and exciting.

After their ceremony, we had planned to go to the University of Alberta for formal photographs of the family and of the wedding party but Mother Nature had different plans. Fortunately we had planned on using the studio for backup so we headed back downtown to the studio to photograph the family and create a few images of the bridal party – including the bride and groom of course.

After doing some photographs in the studio, the rain finally let up and we were able to stick with our plan of finish up the bridal party formals on Edmonton’s High Level Streetcar. This was the first time I’ve ridden on it so it was a fun experience to go over North Saskatchewan River on top of the High Level Bridge. When he worked at the Ukrainian Cultural Village, Thomas drove the train so it was only fitting that we captured some photographs of him wearing the conductors hat.

After we were done riding the street car, we walked over to the Matrix hotel for their reception where Allison & Thomas celebrated surrounded by close friends and family.

After their first look was done we took some time to create some photographs in and around the Muttart before a massive thunderstorm hit and we headed indoors to create a few more images in the pyramids before their ceremony.

After their ceremony, Kathryn & Amanda had a laid back reception inside the Muttart which included some beautiful and touching tributes from their friends and family. 

Eventually the rain stopped and we were able to sneak outside for a quick night shot on top of the pyramids with downtown Edmonton in the background. Really happy with how this one turned out.

The night ended at Mercer Tavern where the party continued late into the night with dancing and cake. Thanks again to Angela for assisting us and to Kathryn & Amanda for allowing us to share in their special day.
