As we step into the new year, schools across Delhi have begun sending out messages to parents, summoning them for the crucial 'draw of lots.' This marks the initiation of a rapid-paced admission process, with schools aiming to wrap up the entire procedure within the opening week of January. The urgency in these messages reflects the heightened competition for coveted spots, pushing both parents and students into high gear as they prepare for the upcoming draw. In this fast-paced scenario, understanding the nuances of the draw of lots becomes paramount for parents seeking admission for their children in Delhi schools.

NEW DELHI: City private schools are apparently in a hurry to fill up their nursery seats for the academic session 2024-25 even when the first list of selected students is yet to be declared, scheduled on January 12 as per the Delhi government notification.

However, some schools have already started sending messages to parents inviting them for the ‘draw of lots’ to share the list of students, thereby planning to finish the admission process within the first week of January.

“I have got messages from four schools inviting me for the draw on January 4, 5 and 6 respectively. This kind of process will create a lot of confusion because the schools will ask us to deposit money in order to book a seat and we as parents will be a in a fix to decide if we should wait for the list as scheduled by the government or we should actually go ahead and book the seat so we don’t regret it later,” a parent shared.

choing a similar opinion, another parent said, “It is very surprising the government is least interested in keeping a check on these schools making up their own rules. As per the government notification, the schools are required to upload points the students received under the point system on January 5. But a couple of schools are calling us to convey the points our ward has got.

Salwan Public School officials told us that my child is getting 85 points, right at the time of the verification process on December 20. Their sole purpose is to get the seats booked. This competition among schools to fill seats is a problem for us.” There was no response from the Delhi education department on the matter.

Parents take note:

January 5: Points received by candidates to be uploaded

January 12: Display of first list of selected candidates

Subsequent lists (if any)

March 8: Closure of admission process

source : https://www.newindianexpress.com/cities/delhi/2024/jan/02/delhi-schools-in-a-hurry-holding-draw-of-lots-in-early-january-2646932.html

Delhi Nursery Admission 2024-25 Registration Closing Today on Edudel.Nic.In: Essential Tips for Parents

Today is the last day for Delhi Nursery Admission 2024-25.
This schedule is for admissions at entry-level classes to private schools in Delhi—nursery, KG or class I as the case may be for different schools.

The application process for admissions at entry-level classes in Delhi’s private schools will begin on December 15.

Owing to the pandemic, the extremely competitive ‘nursery admission’ process had been considerably delayed for the 2021-2022 session and had begun only in February. This year, the admission process is largely in line with previous years’ schedules.

According to the schedule released by the Delhi government’s Directorate of Education, all private schools will have to upload their admission criteria by December 14 and the application process will begin on December 15. The last date for submitting applications is on January 7. The first list of selected candidates and the waiting list will be issued by schools on February 4. Following this, the second list, if any, will be issued on February 21, and any subsequent list on March 15. The admission process will close on March 31.

This schedule is for admissions at entry-level classes to private schools in Delhi—nursery, KG or class I as the case may be for different schools.

There are no significant changes in the admission guidelines from previous years.

The criteria based on which admission will take place is for the schools to formulate but there are certain directions given by the Directorate of Education against “discriminatory” criteria that they are not allowed to adopt. These include considering parents’ education qualifications, their food and drinking habits (vegetarianism and alcohol non-consumers), their professional fields or any kind of expertise, oral tests or interviews, or a first-come-first-serve system. Most schools usually allot points to applicants based on their distance from the school, on having siblings in the school and if a parent is an alumnus.

The upper age limit for admissions is three, four and five years respectively as of March 31, 2022.

All schools are required to reserve 22 per cent of their seats in entry-level classes for EWS/DG students and 3 per cent for children with special needs (CWSN). Admissions to these are conducted through a centralized process of draw of lots by the DoE. A separate schedule for this will be released by the DoE later.

Source: https://indianexpress.com/article/cities/delhi/application-process-for-nursery-admissions-in-private-schools-to-begin-on-dec-15-7649526/

Nursery Admission Schedule 2022-23 Delhi

The schedule regarding the admission in Nursery, KG and other classes in private schools of Delhi will be released soon by the Directorate of Education (DoE).

Delhi Nursery Admission 2022: Schedule release date

As per reports doing rounds, the schedule of Delhi Nursery Admission 2022 is likely to be released in the first week of December 2021. Earlier, owing to the lockdown after the second wave of COVID-19, the admission process was started in February 2021.

Delhi Nursery Admission 2021: Process

As per the officials, there will be no change in the admission process. Those parents who are waiting for the admission process to begin must note that for admission in Nursery, the child should be aged 4 years, for KG, 5 years and for Class I, 6 years. Also, 30 days of relaxation has been given by the official with this age limit.

Usually, Nursery admission in around 1,700 schools in Delhi begins in the last week of November. DoE releases guidelines and schools are asked to release required information, followed by the application process being rolled out in December. However, this year things got delayed due to the outbreak of COVID-19.

Meanwhile, schools in Delhi have reopened amid the "severe" air quality levels. However, attendance is not mandatory and students who have consent letters signed by parents can only attend the schools. The schools have been asked to continue with online classes as it will not just protect them from severe air conditions but also from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Source: https://english.jagran.com/education/delhi-nursery-admission-202223-doe-to-release-full-schedule-by-first-week-of-dec-all-you-need-to-know-10035683

Nursery Admissions Begin Pune

Pune: Lack of documents, confusion over age criteria keep parents on their toes as nursery admissions begin

With pandemic putting a stop on international travel, several parents said they haven't applied for passports for their children – a requirement in some schools. Nursery admissions in Delhi to begin on November 29

Guidelines for this year’s admission to open seats in private schools remain the same as last year. Last year, a new upper age limit was introduced — three, four and five years respectively as of March 31, 2020 — and that continues to be applicable this year.

The application process for entry-level seats in the capital’s private schools will begin on November 29, over two weeks earlier than it had begun last year. Director of Education Binay Bhushan said this has been done to ensure EWS/DG students and children with special needs (CWSN) can start school on time with other students.

The schedule for admissions to Nursery, KG and Class I — whichever might be the entry-level class in a particular school — was released by the Directorate of Education (DoE) Wednesday. While it began on December 15 last year, it had begun on December 27 in 2018-2019.

While the last date for submitting forms is December 27, the first list of selected candidates shall be published by respective schools on January 24.
All schools are required to reserve 22% seats in entry-level classes for EWS/DG students and 3% for CWSN. Admission to these are conducted through a centralised draw of lots. A separate schedule for this will be released by the DoE later.
The admission forms of various schools will be available online as well as offline after the schedule is rolled out.
A common admission schedule for nursery, lower kindergarten and upper kindergarten classes in city schools will be rolled out for the academic session of 2020-2021 after the UT education department meet on Thursday.
The education department issues an admission schedule every year which is followed by all city schools, including 114 government schools, 77 private recognised schools and eight aided schools.
The common admission schedule directs the schools to put up the admission notices, including dates for issue and receipt of admission forms, submission date, date to put up the list of eligible candidates, selection of students and fee submission dates on their websites as well as notice boards.
The admission forms of various schools will be available online as well as offline after the schedule is rolled out. Last year the administration held that the admission forms will be free of cost, however, ₹100 will be charged as registration fee at the time of submission of the admission form.Sulabh Kapoor, parent of 5-year-old Kashish Kapoor, said, “We have shortlisted three city schools and we are waiting for the school to release the forms.”
The common age norm for pre-nursery is that the student should have completed three years as on March 31, 2019. For nursery class, the student should have completed four years. For government schools, children from neighbourhood areas will be admitted only if their parents are residents of that area. In case the number of applications received is more than the number of seats, children will be admitted based on draw of lots.
A representative from the education department will be there to monitor the draw.

This year the Delhi government is not bringing any changes in the admission criteria and schools get to decide their own criteria and allot points to various criterions such as distance, first child, girl child and alumnus.

The application forms for nursery admissions to around 1,500 private schools will begin from December 27 with the first list of selected candidates to be announced by schools on February 15 next year.

The directorate of education (DoE) on Tuesday announced the admission schedule for nursery admissions for the class of 2018 in unaided recognised private schools in the city.

This year the government is not bringing any changes in the admission criteria and schools get to decide their own criteria and allot points to various criterions such as distance, first child, girl child and alumnus.

“…all private unaided recognised schools shall develop and adopt criteria for admission which shall be fair, reasonable, well defined, equitable, non-discriminatory, unambiguous and transparent,” the DoE said in a circular.

The DoE also said that all schools will have to abide by the government’s order that had abolished 62 criteria considered “unfair, unreasonable and non-transparent”. These include oral tests, interviews, achievement of parents, non-smoking parents, and vegetarian parents.

The last date to submit application forms in schools is January 17 next year. A DoE official said that on February 2, 2018, schools will have to upload a list detailing marks given to each applicant based on the point system adopted by the school.

“On February 15, 2018, schools will display the first list of selected students with points allocated to each student,” the official said.

Schools have to keep 25% of their total seats reserved for the candidates from economically weaker section and admissions for this category are conducted by the department through computerised draw of lots.

The second list of selected candidates will be announced on February 28, 2018 and the subsequent admission lists, if any, will be announced on March 15, 2018.

The nursery admission process will close on March 31, 2018, the DOE circular said.
The Chandigarh Education department has set December 12 as the deadline for submitting application forms in these schools.

The process of issuing application forms for admission to nursery and kindergarten classes at private and convent schools has begun. Parents are now rushing for admitting their child to the best schools.

The Chandigarh Education department has set December 12 as the deadline for submission of forms in these schools.
Here's what some parents said about the admission:

"To seek admission in private and convent schools in Chandigarh is a very tough task. We have to do all the homework for admission weeks before. We can't rely on single applications as seats are limited in all schools. So, I will apply to several schools so that I have the chance to select one," Amar Gupta from Manimajra told Indian Express while trying admission for his niece.

"Today, I applied to five schools online. I was waiting for forms to be issued for the last two weeks. I have prepared all the documents necessary for admission. I wish good luck to my little girl to get admission in the best school," Rajesh Saini from Baltana told Indian Express, who is looking the best school for his daughter.
Out of 80 seats, 60 are in general category while 20 are reserved for economically weaker sections under the Right to Education Act.

Admission is the main challenge in Tricity (Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula, three cities combined). The limited seats are set by the guidelines of the education department so as to give the best education to the students with available resources

At present, schools in these areas are facing inquiries for admission and admission procedures. The website of these schools are having huge visits and traffic.

As application forms are issued for the upcoming session, it will be notified through websites. All information regarding admission will be available online so that parents are able to apply from home.

For more queries related to nursery admission 2018-2019, you can check the following forum regularly.

Nursery Admissions Delhi NCR 2018-2019

Nursery Admissions Delhi NCR is the biggest forum on nursery admission helping more than 1.25 lakhs families. For Class nursery, the upper age limit has been fixed at 4 years. But, for differently abled children with physical challenges, the upper age limit will be 5 years as on March 31 of the admission year. The admission process is likely to be same as last year.

Parents of differently abled children will get a breather in nursery admissions in private schools this year as the Delhi government is planning to relax the norms for applicants with physical and mental challenges.

This year, the upper age limit for differently abled applicants for entry level classes may get revised. Kids of age between 3-4 years will be eligible for Nursery, between 4-5 years for KG, and 5-6 years for Class 1,” the official said.

The official added that same age relaxations will be applicable for differently abled students applying to KG and Class 1.

The DOE is yet to make an official announcement about the relaxation. Nursery admission in over 1,700 private unaided recognised schools is expected to begin from January 1, 2018. The government is likely to bring out the admission notification by December 15.

Admission for Class nursery usually starts in the first week of January and the last date for submission of application forms is by January end.

The DOE had in December 2015 imposed an upper age limit for entry level admissions but it was stayed by the high court after which admissions last year happened without an upper age limit.“But the court in October upheld our decision to implement the age limit,” the official said.

The government is not likely to make any changes to the criteria for nursery admissions, allowing private unaided schools to decide the guidelines on their own.

For admission, the applicant scores out of 100 points, divided in the various criteria. In most schools, the distance criterion carries the maximum points. The radius of the distance differs from school to school. The AAP government has informed the Delhi High Court on Wednesday that over-age students of the economically backward section (EWS) and disadvantaged group (DG) have been applying for admissions in the primary classes causing problems to the school administration.

The Delhi government has requested the court to modify an earlier order passed by the High Court which put a stay on the government's circular to set upper age limit for admissions to the EWS/DG category.

Staking its claim, the government said that the Federation of Public Schools, Delhi has written to them that there is "drastic age difference amongst the list of students of pre-school, ranging from three years to seven years" which would create disparity among the students of the same class.

"The admission of the over-age students would create disparity among the students of same class and will disturb the dynamics of classroom teaching thereby leading to isolation as students with varied age groups have different learning oriented abilities," said the representation by the Federation of Public Schools.

According to the figures submitted by the Delhi government, as many as 1,13,991 students of various age groups had applied for admissions in primary classes which include students of age eight, nine and 10 who have applied for entry to nursery admission.

Admissions to the EWS/DG category are conducted through a lottery and even students with age more than four years get through as there is no upper age limit.

The government also submitted that a sub-committee set up by the Delhi School Education Advisory Board under the chairmanship of Additional Director of Education had submitted a report to look into the aspect of fixing the lower and upper age limit for admissions to school.

The report stated that for "better socio-psycho development of a child, he/she should be exposed to the peer group of his/her age so that the whole group represents the same kind of needs and behaviour.

However, according to Advocate Ashok Agarwal, this is a violation of the Right to Education (RTE) to the students of the EWS/DG category.

"In a country like India where there is so much child labour, if the students of these categories are not allowed admissions on the basis of age, then it would be a violation to their right to obtain education," said Agarwal.

New Delhi: As the new academic session is set to start, parents of students admitted under EWS category are being asked by schools to pay for books and uniforms, as against the government guidelines.

According to guidelines by Directorate of Education, schools “shall not charge tuition fee from the students admitted under EWS/DG category. Further, schools have to provide the free books, school uniforms and writing material to each and every student admitted under EWS/DG category, as is mandated for other children.”

However, contrary to this, private schools are “forcing” parents of Economically Weaker Section-Disadvantaged Group students to shell out money for books, uniforms, and transport.

“The school said only tuition fee is not charged and rest we will have to pay otherwise the admission will be cancelled. I told the principal about the guidelines but she insisted on paying Rs 8,500,” said a parent, a daily-wage labourer, who did not wish to be identified. His child has got admission under EWS category in Sachdeva Convent School in Sangam Vihar.

When contacted, school principal, Sangeeta Nagar, accepted charging EWS parents for books and uniforms and said it is being done as the school hasn’t received any money from the government yet.

Another parent, whose child got admission in Kulachi Hansraj Model School in Ashok Vihar under EWS category, said that he has paid Rs 3,000 till now for books and uniforms. Accounts officer of the school, R K Tyagi, said that the school hasn’t received any money for EWS admissions since 2014-15 and it will reimburse parents if it gets money from the government.

“It is wrong on the part of schools to charge money from EWS parents when the government has clearly said that schools have to provide free books and uniforms. The problem is between them and the government. They should not make parents suffer for it,” said Sumit Vohra, founder of admissions-nursery.com, an online forum for parent community.

Meanwhile, parents of general category are also alleging that private schools are overcharging for books and stationery.

A parent, a member of the forum, has started an online petition against it that has been signed by around 8,000 parents till now and will be sent to Education Minister Manish Sisodia by Mr Vohra.

New Delhi: The Delhi high court on Friday refused to set aside an interim order staying the operation of the criterion of neighbourhood or distance for nursery admissions in Delhi

Under a 7 January notification issued by the Delhi government, it had sought to make it mandatory for private, unaided minority schools to admit nursery students, using their neighbourhood and the distance they travel as a criterion.

It gave priority for admission to those living within a radius of one kilometre from the school. In case seats remained vacant, those living within a three-kilometre radius would be given a chance.

The Delhi government had moved the court two days after the single judges’ order quashing the neighbourhood criteria was passed.

The appeal was heard by a division bench headed by chief justice of Delhi high court, G. Rohini who heard the matter at length but did not set aside the stay under the single judges’ order.

“The term ‘neighbourhood’ has been borrowed from the Right to Education rules. We are not touching the 25% reserved category and can exercise some amount of discretion,” Sanjay Jain, additional solicitor general, appearing for the Delhi government told the court.

On 14 February, justice Manmohan had stayed a set of guidelines issued by the Delhi government, which used distance as a norm for nursery admissions in private schools built on government land.

As a result, it allowed discretion to private schools to admit students for nursery without using distance as a criteria. Over 298 private schools in Delhi would be free to regulate their nursery admission process as a result of the order.

“The notification is arbitrary, discriminatory as it benefits certain parents against others.” said justice Manmohan.

Holding that distance cannot be a sole criteria for admitting students for nursery in private schools, the court upheld the fundamental rights of students to be considered into a school of their choice.

The court in January had partially stayed the neighbourhood criteria under the notification for unaided minority schools build on govt land.

As a result of the court’s order, around 15 unaided private minority schools sited on public land were free to decide on admitting students under the unreserved category for nursery admissions.

You cannot prescribe such a criteria as it is ‘contrary to the constitutional mandate’ of India, the order held.

The Delhi government had submitted that a perusal of the allotment letter clearly and explicitly showed that lessee school had willingly accepted the terms of allotment.

The matter will be heard next on 22 February.
