Friends, I have nothing personal against author/blogger melcrossman3, who recently wrote an article that appears elsewhere as a "guest post". But I feel it is my sworn duty to steer you away from blog-nonsense!

mc3's very-clever "guest-post" hyperlinks readers to a veriety of services, perhaps with which she is affiliated and earns commission or other revenue based on referrals?

Nevertheless... let us sift thru the "advice" - but before we do, I would like to quote blogger Lance Haun from his excellent piece entitled "Why I Stopped Taking Guest Posts" ::: "Since Google’s “Penguin” update, they’ve killed low quality writing with an irrelevant link back to your site. There’s no going back, either."

(1) Domain
I will ensure the continued registration of my brand’s domain name, and if I don’t have an exclusive domain name, I’ll secure one within the next week. ~ mc3

WRONG! Unless you are a niche "powerblogger" or famous person, you don't need this! Come to think of it, one woman who has been in the Blogosphere's Top 20 since 2005 is STILL blogging happy and healthy on the blog*spot platform!

(2)Metrics
I will consult with a qualified professional to guide the installation of one or more metric tools for monitoring my blog’s impact by the end of the second week from beginning my plan. ~ mc3

Again, keeping in mind this is really an advert for another site, most bloggers worth thier salt have already been doing this. 'Nuff said about that!

melcrossman3 actually offers meaningful advice for bloggers trying to earn a little part-time income via blogging here:

(3)Purpose
I will identify the specific landing pages or marketing tools to which readers are led by my blog within three weeks from my start date. One of the main goals of having good metrics is to follow your blog’s traffic to subsequent pages and tools. You can have great content on your blog, but if you don’t move your readers from the blog into a sales stream, then you don’t have a useful purpose for having a blog. ~ mc3

I find the next two pieces of melcrossman3's advice most peculiar, because all the blogging guru-types are beating very loud drums about keeping your template "clean"

mc3 goes from a real nugget of advice in "Purpose" to a dangerous clunker in "Multimedia":

(4) Multimedia
I will add videos and graphics to my regular mix of content by no later than the beginning of the fifth week. ~ mc3

There is no quicker way to kill a blog (and get banned from certain affiliate programs and ad services) than to feature or otherwise present videos on the landing page. Videos from youtube, dailymotion, NBC news, etc. are OK in a post, but NOT as a component of a blog template!

(5)Swap Meet
I will identify and add to my blog roll at least ten quality, complementary blogs within two weeks of adding multimedia to my blog. "The previous goals having been accomplished very early on, now is the time to organize information you probably already have. Look through your bookmarked blog pages from related companies, though not direct competitors, and list those sites on your blog’s roll..." ~ mc3

The blog gurus are advising against linking to other blogs, but I am compelled to side WITH melcrossman3 on this one!

I added the next item in "comments" - but my "comment is awaiting moderation" at this time, so who knows if it will see the light of day or not? Here it is:

I will spare my readers the ill-mannered intrusions of popups/popovers (like the black transparent one that appears on this blog, despite any claim that it only does so once) and banish them from my blog once and for all.

And here are a few additional suggestions of my own

(7) Guest Posting
Be careful! Do not allow any guest post on your own blog without thoroughly checking for text and image copyright violations, and for duplicates of the same post on other blogs.

Inform guest-post submitters that

-their guest-post becomes YOUR property
- you reserve the right to edit all content
- you reserve the right to replace any image they send to accompany the post with one of your own choosing

Then, edit the crap out of their post so if it is stolen, it will never be detected. Create an original image by whatever means you are able to accompany / enhance the guest post.

Freedom of the press...

Some folks believe newspapers will cease to exist (along with the post office) in about 10 years. Hmmmm... Seriously, how long will the newspaper industry survive? Your guess is as good as the next guy or gal's. One way they WON'T survive is by restricting and/or charging for online content. I am blessed in that for me The New York Times and The Albany Times Union each are a mouseclick away. Sites that tell me "your free trial" is up, offer "pay per view" or display othersuch drivel, never see me again.

By the way, in a few minutes I'm off to the store to BUY copies of The Sunday New York Times, The Times Union and The NY Post. Weekend is the only time I can really "curl up" with and dive into mountains of newsprint!

There is another battle brewing, and this little litmus test going on in upstate New York could have bigger implications for both newspapers and the cottage newsblogging industry. As this has the potential to unfurl rather quickly, consider all the players and what's at stake. Like one of the old NWA pro-wrestling matches, you never know who might turn on who. So, pop a cool one, enjoy the Memorial Day holiday weekend, thank those soldiers, sailors and airmen who gave their lives so you could be bar-b-q'ing without fearing for your safety, and let's see what happens next.

Bloggers vs. Times Union vs. New York Times ::: a "cage match" pits citizen journalists against mighty metropolitan newspapers. The battle involves newspapermen, government officials, law enforcement authorities and others "in the public eye."

What to watch for: not the content, but the effect. In the end, this match-up will show whether bloggers can make any lasting impression, any impact on public opinion that measures up against the kind of public opinion newspapers were able to set, sway and otherwise preside over during the 20th Century.

In other words, 25 years from now, it won't matter what the story was about. And if this isn't the milemarker that re-sets the course of influence on public opinion, another will surely come along, somewhwere else in time. watch for it.

28-year-old Loreen won with the song "Euphoria" in the annual competition of 42 countries, delighting viewers and the contest's professional judges and dancing barefoot as she sang.

Russia came second and Serbia was third ... Loreen won the title despite recently angering local Azerbaijani authorities by meeting with civil rights activists protesting ahead of the 57th annual awards event.

The Albany Times Union gets "covered" by the New York Times!

(Hmmm... wonder if this is why Albany Mayor Jery Jennings cancelled today's weekly radio show?)

While Albany makes for a good regional story, the national media spotlight is cast upon the New Orleans hometown paper as it joins others in cutting back from publishing daily to just 3 days a week!

I guess we should expect that to happen. The newspapers follow the music industry and the post office as victims of emerging technology.

With the bad press that continues to dog the Roman Catholic Church (some say the "bad news" goes all the way back to the days of Luther...)

Digresses: Martin Luther (10 November 1483 – 18 February 1546) was a German monk, priest, professor of theology and iconic figure of the Protestant Reformation. He kickstarted a revolution against the Roman Catholic Church, who at the time would raise large amounts of cash by allowing people to see relics, often unconfirmed pieces of history, such as Mary’s milk and the bones of disciples. He strongly disputed the claim that freedom from God's punishment for sin could be purchased with money. He confronted indulgence salesman Johann Tetzel with his Ninety-Five Theses, which he posted to the door of Castle Church in Wittenberg in 1517. His refusal to retract all of his writings at the demand of Pope Leo X in 1520 and the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V at the Diet of Worms in 1521 resulted in his excommunication by the pope and condemnation as an outlaw by the Emperor.

It was a landslide victory for Luther, resulting in a complete change in the process of certain church activities that continue to this day. The people who associated with Luther’s ideas became known as Protestants, which is a form of the word “protestor”, as the people protested against the Catholic church’s systems.

Now, back to our post:

Back in 2000, Turkey confiscated a leather-bound text, written on animal hide, during an anti-smuggling initiative. Turkish authorities are of the opinion that the text could be the authentic version of the Gospel of Barnabas, one of Jesus’ apostles.

The Basij Press claims that this particular version of the Barnabas Gospel seems to have been written in the 5th or 6th century. It foretells the coming of the Prophet Mohammad and the religion of Islam. Catholics call it laughable!

It further points out that Christianity denies that such a gospel exists. From Barnabas 41: “God has hidden himself as Archangel Michael ran them (Adam and Eve) out of heaven, when Adam turned, he noticed that at top of the gateway to heaven, it was written ‘La elah ela Allah, Mohamad rasool Allah,’” translation: Allah is the only God, Mohammad is his prophet.

The Turkish army has confiscated the Barnabas Gospel, BP says, because Zionists and Western governments want it kept away from the public eye. The book purports to predict the coming of the last Islamic messiah.

Barnabas says in the Book that Jesus was never crucified and that not only is He not the son of God, but that He himself predicted the coming of the Prophet Mohammad. (That's an interesting take) The Basij paper proclaims that “...discovery of the original Barnabas Bible will now undermine the Christian Church and its authority ... this Bible has predicted the coming of Prophet Mohammad and in itself has verified the religion of Islam, and this alone will unbalance the powers of the world and create instability in the Christian world.”

The report sees the discovery as so immense that it will impact world politics. I wonder. I can see it perhaps making a mark in the Middle East, but, everywhere else?

According to published documents, Turkey will place the Bible on public display. There is a "bigger picture' here:

“The Iranian regime is committed to stamping out Christianity by any means necessary, whether that means executing Christian converts, burning Bibles or raiding underground churches,” according to Erick Stakelbeck, host of CBN’s “Stakelbeck on Terror” program. Stakelbeck keeps an eye on Iran, and muses that this "new Bible" is an attempt to discredit Christianity.

The Vatican supposedly has asked to see the scripture.

Grand Ayatollah Jafar Sobhani, in a recent statement, announced that since the Quran was the last holy book and provides the most complete religion to the world and Mohammad the last prophet as indicated in the Quran, there is no authority to abide by other books.

Also reported recently, a former intelligence officer in the Revolutionary Guards revealed that tens of thousands of Bibles were confiscated and burned in Iran, under the order of Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who said the Bible is not a holy book and its burning is morally acceptable.
