Other appliance are the hotplates, burners and induction hobs that have surfaces that heat up like the eye or burner of a stove but this time on the table. They heat a pan very quickly because of the material it is made of which is ceramic and metal. There are also the soup kettles that are used to warm or cook soup and can be used with wet heat such as hot water or dry heat such as electricity. They help in keeping the soup warm for long periods of time, and can also be used for the same purpose when cooking stew and casseroles.

The revolutionary system works by using the surplus electricity created by the alternator to split water into its 2 main elements of Hydrogen & Oxygen.

The resulting gas which is known as “Hydroxy Gas” or “Browns Gas” is fed into the engine and mixed with the air and fuel, which in turn helps the fuel burn faster and more completely whilst reducing the amount of harmful carbons created by up to 70%, therefore making the engine much more fuel efficient.

Although this system does not eliminate the need for petrol or diesel, it does help to reduce the amount of fuel consumed by around 20%, thus enable-ing the end user to recover the cost of the system reasonably quickly through the resulting fuel savings.

The use of this technology has swept across the USA and Canada in the last few years, spearheaded by an ebook about creating Water from Gas. This was an internet book, claiming that you could build your own device that would allow you to run your car on water for just a few dollars. Many people naturally just thought this was just a scam, but it turns out there was an amazing amount of well thought out research behind the claims.

As people all over the world started to experiment with the ‘run your car on water’ technology, new and more efficient methods of creating Hydrogen from water by electrolysis came to light, which in turn has spawned a whole new breed of business’s.

In a cooking respect, a crock pot is a slow cooker, but not all slow cookers are crock pots.

So what’s the difference?

A crock pot is a small electrical kitchen appliance that uses moist heat over long periods of time to cook foods. Crock pots generally have three parts: a glass lid, a ceramic or porcelain round or oval pot, and a round or oval heating element that the pot fits snugly into. Crock pots come in a variety of sizes ranging from 16 oz. to 9 quarts or more, with the most common sizes being 5-6 quarts. They usually have two heat settings that offer continuous heat: high (approximately 300 degrees Fahrenheit) and low (approximately 200 degrees Fahrenheit) and surround the pot by heating from the sides.

Slow cookers are also small electrical kitchen appliances that use moist heat over a long period of time to cook food. They also have three parts: a glass lid, a pot, and a heating element. So what’s the difference? Slow cookers generally describe a pot that sits on a hot plate and has many different temperature settings, usually notated by numbers one through five. The heat runs in cycles, rotating on and off. Because the heating element does not surround the pot and cook from the sides (and is not continuous), scorching food is more easily achieved with a slow cooker. But who wants to achieve that?

Sometimes crock pots are called slow cookers, but a true slow cooker (with the heating element underneath) is not called a crock pot. The terms crock pot and slow cooker are often interchangeable, but if a recipe states to be cooked on low or high, you can bet it’s meant for a crock pot.

To confuse you even further, what’s the difference between crock pot, crockpot, and Crock-Pot ??

Crock-Pot ? is a registered trademarked name owned by Rival Industries – notice the hyphen, capitalization, and registered symbol. Much like Kleenex ? has replaced facial tissue as a household name; Crock-Pot ? has become a household name as well. However, here’s where it gets grammatically technical. Without the hyphen, capitalization, and registered symbol, crock pot and crockpot are not owned by Rival, yet have the same meaning.

In the end, who really cares? If you’re purchasing one of these small electrical kitchen appliances, I would recommend buying a crock pot, not a slow cooker. In other words, get one with a heating element that surrounds the entire pot and heats continuously, not just heats from the bottom on cycles. The bottom line is they both offer the benefits of a quick and easy dinner preparation, convenience, and low cost healthy meals.

Perhaps we should just change the name to “The Greatest Small Kitchen Appliance Ever”. But then people might confuse it with their coffee pot. Or is it coffee maker?

The use of dish soap is common and very effective for cleaning all types of barbecue grills, so don’t rule out this method. Just place your grill and racks out in your yard and spray it down with water. Gently scrub your grill with a steel pad and rinse again.

All of these cleaning methods are great ideas for taking care of your grill, but to really make sure it looks model-perfect for as long as possible, invest in a cover. You spent a lot of money on your barbecue grill, so buy a cover and protect it from elements like rain, wind and dust.

Now that your gas, electric, smoke or charcoal barbecue is shiny and clean, it’s time to check it out and address any issues you’ve been having with it. But, before you toss it in the garbage or haul it off to the repair man, check to see if you can repair it yourself. Who knows, you just might save yourself some money and you’ll feel good about your handyman skills as well.

The first repair you’ll want to look at is the burner. Make sure the gas is disconnected and your grill is cold before beginning. When these steps have been taken, remove the grill, lava rock and bottom grill until you find the burner. If it’s rusty looking, take it out and replace it with a new one from your local hardware store. A professional would charge you a lot more to replace your burner, so skip that unnecessary step and do it yourself!

There are two predominant ways in which heat or power comes into a modern home. One is through electricity and the other is through gas. These are also the two most common methods of cooking food in many homes and apartments. Electricity is very common and can be said to be the standard way of providing power throughout the world. Electric heaters are also the most common simply because they are easy to incorporate into a new house and most homes use electricity any way. But gas heaters are also very common.

Gas heaters can be found in apartments as well but you can expect them to be in homes more than in apartments. When we go into a modest house, we see a fireplace and in many homes, this fireplace uses coal or wooden logs. These can either be purchased or the homeowner can simply go into the woods and chop a few logs and bring them home. Those who love the outdoors lifestyle find this very appealing and actually prefer this rather than buy ready-made coal. Probably the biggest decision about purchasing a grill is whether you want a charcoal, gas or electric grill. You will need to weigh the benefits of each against the others and decide which one is best for your needs.

Charcoal grills tend to be the least expensive to buy initially because they have the fewest parts. Charcoal cooks food at very high heat to seal-in juices. Many people prefer the smoky taste and flavor that only charcoal grills can provide. However, starting up a charcoal grill can take some time, but more advanced models have incorporated gas ignition systems that reduce this preparation time.

Gas grills, on the other hand, are ready to cook within minutes, and can be fueled with propane or natural gas. Wood chips can be used to add smoky flavors. Gas grill parts are readily available to extend the useful life of your unit. Electric grills only need a regular 110v outlet but do not get as hot as either charcoal or gas.

Size is another important consideration – if you’re planning on the cooking for neighborhood parties, picnics, or family get-togethers on a regular basis, you’re going to want a much bigger grill with a large cooking area than if you’re only preparing food for one or two people. An indoor electric grill may be a better choice for you in that situation. Charcoal and gas grills can never be used indoors because of the danger of carbon monoxide poisoning.

In addition to the size of the cooking area the number of items you can cook at any one time is dependent on the heat output of the grill. Heat is measured in BTUs (British thermal units) and, higher ratings indicate a more intense heat output. For charcoal grills the BTU output is limited only by the size of the firebox and how deep you stack the briquettes. Heat regulation on charcoal grills however is very tricky.

Gas grills provide more precise temperature control for cooking food evenly and consistently. The new infrared gas grill models can heat up to 700 degrees, and even higher with the expensive models, to give you steak house quality results. A family size gas grill should have at least 20,000 BTU rating. A portable gas grill should have at least an 8,000 BTU rating. Weber gas grills are big sellers for full size units and Coleman is the go-to brand for portable gas grills.

This is a good question. So I figured I would do a little research before I come to any conclusions. To say that I received mixed results is putting it mildly.

According to the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission,” Use Your Crock Pot if you’re preparing a roast, use your slow cooker to cook the meat and any vegetables you will be serving with it. This eliminates the need to use both the oven and the stovetop.” I found this on my first search but I also found a lot of people telling me to do the math. What gives?

So I found another page and someone on the other side of the tracks gives me this. I paraphrased this but math is math. Say you’ve got an oven that uses 220 volts by 10 amps equaling 2200 watts per hour. The thermostat switches the heating element on and off leaving us with about 10 or 15 minutes on time. One quarter of 2200 watts equals 550 watts.

The Crock Pot runs with 120 volts with low amperage. If the Crock Pot runs at 120 volts by 1.5 amps it equals 180 watts. So you run the Slow Cooker at 180 watts by 6 hours and you get 1080 watts.

According to these guys you are much better off cooking your meals in the oven. They were not alone and neither was the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission. So I guess it really boils down to who you’re talking to. Or does it?

As I sat hear thinking it occurred to me that not everyone is not in the same position. Some people are using high energy efficient ovens with new insulating and technology giving their oven an advantage over someone with an older model. People are recognizing the efficiency of gas stoves over electric. This list goes on and on…

Crock Pots emit a lot less heat than an oven saving on air conditioning on hot summer days. Anyone who has had one very long will tell you that a slow cooked inexpensive cut of meat will come out melting in your mouth tender. This is another benefit altogether but I feel should be mentioned with the price of meat these days. Ouch!

For the Crock Pot people there is the issue with the age of the Slow Cooker. Some of the newer models are far more energy efficient than their older counterparts. The size of the slow cooker has a lot to do with energy efficiency. Some people like me tend to remove the lid releasing all the heat forcing the cooker to reheat the area over again.

The bottom line to this issue boils down to the variables. Who has the better oven or maybe the better Crock Pot. The real benefit of using a slow cooker is the way the meal comes out. Some of these dishes are dynamite. They can be big time savers if set to cook in the morning and left until dinner time. It’s so nice not to have to cook after work. So after you remove the old Electric Wok from the cabinet, don’t worry so much- pull out the slow cooker and use it for what it was meant for: cooking great tasting meals!?

Keeping up-to-date with technological developments is desirable if you want to make the most of items like computers, phones or even cookers. Some consumers are happy to have a two-year old Mac laptop, whilst others want the wide-screen, high-powered version, out only last month. Some are happy to make do with an old and sturdy electric cooker; others want a modern gas/electric combination model, which they can use for the next dinner party. In simple terms, tastes and expectations differ.

But throwing away still functional stuff can feel wasteful – particularly with all the media coverage of climate change, reminding us to be ‘environmentally friendly’ and make the most of scarce resources. It is tempting to simply store old stuff in cupboards, the garage, or a loft, but why use up valuable space? Simply accept that you won’t ever use your old goods again and sell them online instead. This option means that you can see your old stuff ‘recycled’ and make some money in the process, perhaps to offset the cost of a new computer, phone, dishwasher etc.

There are a huge number of sites that allow you to do this – in recent years, the second-hand market has really opened up and appeals to a wide variety of people. Although it is sometimes difficult to see past the mammoth enterprise that is Ebay, a number of smaller sites offer opportunities for selling, perhaps at a fixed price instead of by auction. The type of goods for sale has also expanded. You can sell electricals, computers, mobile phones, cookers and dishwashers. Larger items can be advertised as ‘for collection only’, which means you don’t need to worry about transport options and buyers can check out the product before making a commitment.

So, instead of letting old stuff clog up the cupboards and the loft, try online selling. Not only will you free up space and make some money, but you’ll also be helping the environment.

The latest trend in kitchen counter tops or worktops, as they are also called, is to cover them in ceramic tiles. The ceramic tiles are the same ones that go on your floor or walls. individuals no longer care for the old MDF plastic coated worktops, pretty as they seemed to be until not so long ago. They are now so old-fashioned, darling! You simply must have a ceramic tile counter top in the kitchen.

There is such a broad assortment of ceramic tiles as well. There are thousands of styles of tiles in dozens of materials. There are stone, slate, ceramic and quarry tiles to name but a few of the materials used to make tiles. However, most individuals go for the ceramic tiles for their counter top, because there is more choice and they are not so expensive.

Some of the designs obtainable for a tiled counter top are plain, riven, patterned, mosaic, floral, rustic, country or artistic, but really, the world is your oyster when it comes to selecting ceramic tiles. They are also available in different sizes, but the most common are: 25 mm (one inch); 150 mm (six inches); 225 mm (nine inches) and 300 mm (one foot).

As you probably already know from your preceding experience with tiling the kitchen and bathroom, ceramic tiles are very versatile. They can be cut or snapped fairly easily, once you get the hang of it and they are easily bedded down although some tilers would rather one method and others another.

In Europe tiles are usually laid on lines of adhesive which have been laid down with an adhesive applicator. This technique uses approximately half the adhesive you would normally use. In Asia they tend to lay tiles on a full bed of cement. It does not matter which technique you use for walls or your counter top as the tiles will not be subject to any weight.

A ceramic tile counter top in the kitchen is an outstanding idea because there is lots of variety, they are simple to lay, hard-wearing and heat-resistant. It is a surprise that they did not catch on a long time ago.

Some individuals count the ceramic tiles above the work surface as part of the counter top although it is not really. It is part of the wall tiling. Anyway, choose your tiles carefully, because you will be seeing them often. A lot of people choose to have an off-white splashback with a number of picture tiles placed at random but with a panel of six or eight tiles making a fresco in the centre. A granite counter top cut neatly around your hob and sink looks great. This style works best if you have a built-in sink and cooker.

Black is too harsh for many, so they might pick a lighter, say, marbled tile. This looks great too. It is all a matter of getting the colours of the splashback and the counter top co-ordinated well, but it is not hard. You could also have a panel in the ceramic tile counter top. If you are stuck for ideas, just walk around a home improvement centre and look at their show kitchens. What they have in MDF, you can do in ceramic tiles.

Range cookers are a great choice and there are many options currently out there. The advantages of a range cooker include the fact that it takes a lot of the inconvenience out of shopping for separate appliances for your cooking area as a range cooker incorporates the oven, the hob and the grill into one kitchen appliance. So you do not have to think about matching your appliances up or installing them so that they all work in harmony with each other or any of the other complications that come along with buying separate hobs and ovens.

Some people might say that that is not an advantage at all. Having a range cooker does limit your ability to customise your cooking space to fit in with your specific requirements. The advantage of buying your appliances separately, of course, is that you can select each component based on their individual qualities rather than choosing a Neff range cooker for its combined qualities.

Another advantage of a range cooker is the look of it. It has a more traditional air about it and is a stand-alone appliance rather than having to have the hob built in to your existing workspace. And there is still some choice with a Neff range cooker. There are three to choose from currently and are described by Neff as ‘Stylish, chunky and practical.’ All of the models come with the ability to easily defrost even the most delicate foods by circulating unheated air through the ovens using the hot air fan. It speeds up defrosting times but does not damage the food. The ovens in these range cookers give you the ability to choose between combined top and bottom heat, just bottom heat or just top heat and the full surface grill can be found in the roof of the oven. It is controlled by a thermostat and cycles on and off in order to maintain whatever temperature is selected.

The F3470 Neff cooker has three cooking compartments besides the hob. These consist of an upper left oven, an upper right oven and a bottom left oven. The two upper ovens have a full service grill in them whereas the bottom oven is designed to be used mainly for defrosting. The fact that there are two conventional ovens both with grills means that you are able to use the grill in one of the ovens whilst baking or roasting in the other, taking the inconvenience out of having to constantly switch between the grill and oven facilities.

The F3460 Neff range cooker has a slightly different set up to the F3470 and only has two oven cavities, which are both multifunction ovens with eight functions. The F3430 takes another step down as it only has one oven cavity. This oven is also an eight function oven like the one that features in the F3460 and the grill is incorporated into the oven.

All of the Neff range cookers come in easy to clean stainless steel and have a hard wearing enamel interior, which makes it easy to maintain.

Bosch’s four and five-burner gas hobs include features such as electronic ignition, wok-style burners and flame failure devices, which detect when there is no flame and automatically turn the gas off, taking the worry of safety out of cooking with gas. Several of these models are also available with fashionable and stylish tempered hard glass bases.

Bosch gas hobs are flush fitting and are available in the two sizes of 60cm and 70cm. There are six gas hobs to choose from altogether made up of three different styles but a choice of size for each.

The 70cm Bosch gas hobs are five- burner hobs, four generic hobs in each corner and then a wok- style burner in the middle. The power of the gas burners on each of the 70cm hobs are the same with the central burner being a high speed 3.6kW three way burner, one larger high speed 3.0kW burner at the back right of the hob, two standard 1.7kW burners at the back left and front right of the hob and one economy 1kW burner at the front left. All three models have the controls mounted at the front of the hob to make them easy to reach and use. The one hand electronic ignition is also mounted on the front via the control knobs and all three gas hobs have LPG jets included. All three Bosch gas hobs do have a tempered black hard glass base, but the PHL106CEU and PHL106FEU models are frameless. The front trim on the hob that is not frameless- the PHL206MEU is brushed steel, which will fit well into a kitchen that already has a lot of brushed steel incorporated into it or with an oven that also has a brushed steel trim.? The frameless gas hobs will fit in with any style of oven as long as it is the same overall colour. Another small design difference is the pan supports. The PHL206MEU and the PHL106FEU models both have cat iron pan supports whereas the other has standard black enameled pan supports. Cast iron tends to be better and it is often used in professional kitchens because of how durable it is. All three hobs come with a cradle with convex bases for pans included.
