DETROIT, March 10, 2010—Paxahau Event Productions announces discounted super early bird weekend passes for the Movement Electronic Music Festival Powered by Ford Fiesta on sale now; and unveils a partial list of the artists scheduled to perform during the festival May 29-31, 2010 at Hart Plaza in downtown Detroit.

Weekend Passes for Movement Electronic Music Festival
Discounted 3-day weekend passes for the Movement Electronic Music Festival in Detroit are on sale now until 12:01 a.m. Saturday, April 3 for only $40. The price for weekend passes increases to $50 after the discounted super early bird promotion ends. Weekend passes can be purchased exclusively at www.paxahau.com/movement.

Purchasing a weekend pass provides fans of Techno and electronic dance music access to a premier outdoor urban venue in the heart of Detroit Saturday, May 29 through Monday May 31, 2010 to experience 36 hours of music being performed by some of the most recognizable names in electronic music. Gates will open at 12 noon each day and close at 12 midnight each night.

Movement Electronic Music Festival is Powered By Ford Fiesta for 2010
Paxahau has teamed up this year with Ford Motor Company to present the Movement Electronic Music Festival Powered by Ford Fiesta Saturday, May 29 through Monday May 31.

“We are pleased to be partnering with Ford Motor Company for the 10th anniversary of the festival,” said Jason Huvaere, Executive Director of Movement Electronic Music Festival Powered by Ford Fiesta. “It is important to our team to find brands to support the festival that really understand and respect the audience that attends Movement; and we think Ford is that type of sponsor.”

Ford Motor Company is very familiar with the terrain of the annual music festival that for the last decade has drawn tens-of-thousands of Techno and electronic dance music fans to downtown Detroit each year from across the globe every Memorial Day Weekend.

In 2001 Ford Motor Company participated in the electronic music festival in Detroit as part of the launch of the Ford Focus.

Ferry Corsten Unveils New Album Once Upon A Night

Dutch dance music pioneer Ferry Corsten unveils Once Upon A Night, his latest compilation and concept tour. It is built as a double disc set featuring 25 unreleased tracks, all of which have been produced by Ferry himself or his frequent collaborators exclusively for the compilation. The album out March 30th on Ultra Music is an amalgam of the best in house and trance. Drawing influence from Corsten’s travels to the world’s most exotic destinations, listeners are transported on a journey through unchartered territories of sound.

After raising the bar to unprecedented heights in 2009 with Joris Voorn and Will Saul’s stunning additions to the series, EQ Recordings’ Balance series returns for the new decade with yet another standard-setting mix from one of the most sophisticated and inspiring names in techno, frenchman – Agoria.

The man otherwise known as Sebastien Devaud wasn’t bitten by the dance music bug until he was out of his teens, but once he began hunting imported 12”s from the US and Germany in his native France, there was no turning back. His production career began in 1999, with his debut album Blossom and first compilation following in 2003 – and it was clear even in those early days that a serious new talent was emerging. Blending the throb and groove of deeper, stripped-back techno with a keen sense of musicality, emotion and atmosphere, his is a sound that transcends beyond mere dancefloor disposability.

Agoria explains his intention for this intricate compilation: “The concept of both CDs is all about balance. Literally. In my mind a balance is not a middle position; it’s a perfect equilibrium. I’m trying to be as close as possible to this idea. I have tried to find this fine line where the balance is just right.” To accomplish this perfectly-weighted contrast, he’s cherry-picked from a myriad of genres and subgenres in his “beat open-minded” fashion, combining a wealth of material from newcomers across the spectrum (including no less than 12 exclusives!) with more established producers, classics and unknown gems from his broad musical past, and put it all together in an unconventional, challenging manner. “In the end, more than a DJ compilation, this is a manifesto of my passion for music and for mixing” he explains.

Disc 1 casts Agoria not simply as a functional dancefloor engineer, but as a musical craftsman, an arranger, a conductor. It’s the sound DJing evolved – the art of composition, contrast and texture, toying with your emotion and patience and pushing and pulling your attention in different directions. We begin all beatless and atmospheric, moving through the Viennese downtempo beauty of Tosca and the haunting acoustic pop of Emiliana Torrini and onwards into Agoria’s own blend of operatics and deep electronica on “Altre Voci”. Glimpse’s “Train In Austria Pt.2″ catches us off guard with its intense emotion, before the helmsman ushers us unexpectedly towards organic instrumentation and disco grooves, all warm and familiar after the heady electronics that went before. A delicate, blessed-out climax lays the mix down to rest.

Disc 2 sees Agoria go for the 4/4 jugular, with more of the trademark sound that he is recognised for. But it’s not quite as simple as that. Even more so than on the first mix, he combines and sequences tracks in every different way, splicing several together, reintroducing the same track twice or four times, comparing and contrasting different flavours. “I thought that to find the right balance, I needed to use all the ways of mixing. Editing tracks but also letting entire tracks play. Playing 3 or 4 times the same tracks, or spinning some for just a few seconds. Loopy or not. Exclusive, classic or covers, bizarre or easy listening, happy or trippy. 4 tracks together or just one. Loosing the listener for a minute to re-catch him the minute after. Spinning a classical music work of Jonny Greenwood at the peak time. Going up and then down. Starting and finishing with the same tracks.” Familiar names like Marc Antona, Chris Carrier and Mark Broom supply a steady throb of techno and tech house rhythms – melody percolating the mix at the right moments – leading up to a dreamy, euphoric climax, laden with the joyous pianos of Serge Santiago’s re-rub of Shit Robot and Martyn’s heavenly reworking of Efdemin. Two sumptuous vocal tracks round off this incredible oeuvre, the perfect finale to bring the mix back down to earth after some epic peaks.

This superb compilation is as deep and rewarding as a well-woven novel, the dénouement of the story unfolding as the mix evolves through Agoria’s musical DNA. Yet another essential addition to the compilation series that is fast becoming the new benchmark for ambitious DJs and demanding listeners alike.

“Back To Basics” is released through Satoshi Tomiie’s own label, Saw Recordings. Established in 2001, Tomiie views the label as a forum for experimentation and creativity regardless of style; just great music. To date, Saw has released nearly 80 singles, four artist albums and was among the first to release tracks from the likes of Chab, Guy Gerber, Jim Rivers, Nick Chacona, Nathan Fake and Lexicon Avenue.

In addition to the releases on Saw (including his own mix compilations ES and ES-B), Tomiie is responsible for the all-time dance music classic “Tears” (w/ Frankie Knuckles) and the critically acclaimed debut artist album Full Lick (2000) featuring the outstanding anthem “Love In Traffic” (with ex-Sneaker Pimps singer Kelli Ali.) Intricate Beauty pulls together the different sounds that have helped shape King’s dance DJ mind over the years. This is the story of what he loves to spin and how it all relates. In a sense, this is all the greatness of King Britt wrapped up under one disc. Like a physical incarnation of the intricate mind, the process of how this album was constructed is quite advanced. King based the album on tiny microsounds he procured from various random recordings and CDs. He then took all these tiny pieces and dumped them into Ableton Live where he sewed the puzzle pieces together. Once there were approximately 50 workable combinations of tracks he then constructed the songs musically. “In a few months I intend to release all the bits and pieces from Intricate Beauty as a “Live Pack.” These will be sounds that people can use for inspiration and production,” King says

Beyond the album, this is a period of great change for King Britt. Not only is he working in a new studio but he’s also cleansed spiritually; something that has also enabled him to enter into a new creative space with his newest venture Saturn Never Sleeps with multimedia artist Rucyl (www.saturnneversleeps.com/about) “When you find your path and stick with it, you’re bound to hit a pentacle period of productivity. I feel that in the next three years you’ll really see and hear many sides of me musically. Mentally, physically and spiritually I have grown multitudes and have a very clear understanding of who I am and what I’m here for. Many of the lyrics on the album express some of these ideas.”

It’s been 20 years on the music scene for King Britt and his projects, collaborations and affiliations are always truly mind-blowing. From his time as Silkworm in the groundbreaking, Grammy winning Digable Planets, to starting Ovum Recordings with Josh Wink, producing platinum remixes for Macy Gray, Solange, Donna Lewis and hundreds of others, winning the highest grant in the country as the first dj/producer, The Pew Fellowship or starting his empire, FiveSixMedia, King Britt still tries to live in the NOW and not the then.

Movin’ It Mix by M-Erson

Burlington Project – We Love Space Ibiza

As part of Casio G-Shock’s ongoing support of electronic music in Ibiza they sponsored Burlington Project in a series of events with We Love… Space on Sundays taking place in Space’s Red Box every other Sunday.

The first of these parties took place on the 21st of June with The Mole. Ryan O’Gorman and Jem Haynes were the residents throughout the season playing alongside guests such as The Mole – live (Wagon Repair), Simon Baker & Robert Dietz (Air London), Appleblim (Skull Disco / Applepips), Agnes, Mark Henning, Jug (Vitalik Recordings), Martin Buttrich – live, Pier Bucci – live, Einzelkind & Kia (La Peña), Jamie Jones and Clive Henry (Crosstown Rebels).

The line-ups were programmed to represent artists who are making the most interesting music on the European scene – many of whom get overlooked in the Ibiza scene because they are not “big room” DJs. The intimate nature of the Red Box is the perfect space to house a warm intimate party. Attention to detail made the Red Box and intense audio-visual experience with 360 degree video projections from some of Europe’s leading visual artists.

In his previous life Shem McCauley (AKA Slacker) was considered one of the most prolific progressive house producers in the business. His tracks and remixes were played by the genre’s most popular DJs and they landed on the finest mix compilations. However, with the business changing and tastes shifting Shem grew increasingly frustrated with the type of music “the business” was looking for. So he did the unthinkable – he disappeared. This UK native moved to Bangkok, Thailand, cut off communication with the industry, started a new job …and a new life. So, it’s been two years in Thailand and Slacker is back with an album that could have only been created in total isolation from the industry. It’s not progressive house, but this is progressive electronic down tempo music.

We hate to make comparisons but Start A New Life really does remind us of those classic UK downtempo albums from the 90’s and early 2000’s. It makes sense because Shem was a huge fan of this genre but never had the correct forum to release his own music of this type. The influences are apparent and when listening to Start A New Life you’ll pick of pieces of The Sabres Of Paradise “Smokebelch II (Beatless Mix)”, Cocteau Twins “Cherry-Coloured Funk”, Moby “Go (Jam & Spoon Remix)”, Coldcut “Autumn Leaves”, Boards Of Canada Music Has The Right To Children, Future Sound Of London Accelerator, Dusted When We Were Young, and of course, The KLF Chill Out album.

“In the 90’s I was doing progressive house and endless club remixes but I originally came from Hip-Hop and rare groove. So my influence was definitely based around funky beats and slow stuff,” Shem says. “I always wanted to do an album like “Start A New Life” but never had the balls or circumstance to get it together. Towards the last four or five years of my life in the UK I was completely disillusioned, didn’t enjoy making music and eventually stopped. I made the choice to come out to Bangkok and found instant happiness with my new chilled existence. I pulled out the old demos and wrote more and more. [The KLF’s] “Chill Out” and Future Sound Of London’s “Tales Of Ephidrina” are some of my favorite albums, so I started to create an album based on my love of these works. Stylistically, it might sound like a big change, but for me, it’s like expressing the stuff I was never previously able to.”

While Shem is now back doing music, the intention to leave his previous career behind was real. In fact, he originally arrived in Bangkok with two suitcases and no equipment. He started teaching yoga and spent time getting his health back together. When it came time to revisit music there wasn’t a fancy studio or even a traditional space to create in. Rather, Shem wrote the entire album on his laptop in the food court of a Bangkok shopping mall. Yes, it’s a bit unconventional for what we’ve come to expect from today’s glitzy studios and production techniques, but Start A New Life is more honest than anything you’re bound to hear from the genre. After all, it’s a living documentation of Shem McCauley’s new life.
