This post is so late!! There has been so much going on in my life. I won't even get into my car getting broken into (1st time) & my laptop getting stolen. On, August 11th (the day after my birthday!) I hosted HairGurl's 3rd Annual Summer Affair at Harvest Organic Grille right here in Houston! It was EVERYTHING I hoped for & more. Lovely attendees, non-stop hair talk (we must have talked about every product, lol), great food, product swapping & of course giveaways. :-) Thank you ladies so much for sharing this special day with me & making it so wonderful!

Khloa killed that pita bread. Not surprising at all because she seems to love bread just as much as I do. lol

My Circus Hair

I set my hair for about 3-4 hours with nothing but water. I notice when I do this the definition of my hair doesn't last that long, but sometimes I don't feel like doing my hair before bed. So I'll just do it the day of. I take what I can get on those days.

And this is at the end of the night. In it's true shrunken state. LOL hey, that's the way natural goes.

Oh, and this dress is another Ross find. It was around $10....

As you can see, it was once a dress, but somehow got ripped in the washer (or dryer). I didn't want to throw it away so I made it my new skirt. ;-)

Weekend in Dallas: Twist Out Updo & Maxi Dress!

The VB Bar in downtown Dallas...the food was SO good!! I can't wait to go back there.

My brother's girlfriend, Tanisha and I. (the hubs said my eye looked funny in this pic, but when I uploaded the pic it was fine. #hater lol)

A twist out I did that I let set for about 2 hours....

....and the only product I used on my hair that weekend was this! I'm in love with this hair lotion! :D #Cantudoesitagain

I wore another dress, but unfortunately didn't get any pics of it. It was the dress I wore to 'Fro Fashion Week's Bloggers Brunch. I ended up cutting the belt loop in Dallas. I didn't like it because I felt like I had to wear the belt. This way I'm not obligated to. ;-)

Next up: San Antonio! We took a day trip there yesterday so I'll be posting that shortly!

Natural Hair Twists Updo (1st Attempt)

The only products in my hair are the EDEN BodyWorks Jojoba Monoi Hair Milk & the Jojoba Monoi Hair Oil. Taking a hair tip from the Houston #BrunchWithEDEN last month, I used them both together & was very pleased with the moisture they added to my hair. Not too heavy either.

Steps Done on Freshly Washed Hair

1. Applied the Hair Milk in sections.

2. Sealed with the Hair Oil.

3. Put in my twists.

4. Used bobby pins to secure them into an updo the next morning. They were still a little damp....

That's it! This was a quick, functional updo for running errands. Def will be doing it again! :D

I'll also keep you guys up to date on how the EDEN BodyWorks products work on dry hair, different styles, etc!

Trim Day! (New Hair Shears/Length Check)

I've been needing a good trim for months now. I started trimming awhile back when I noticed a bunch of single strand knots, but I didn't get far. My hair shears were not cutting as well as they used to. Definitely time to invest in some new ones before I continued my trim. This past weekend, I went to Sally's & 2 local beauty supply stores. One of the bss's I went into led me to the nail polish when I inquired about hair shears. -_O I ended up going back to Sally's for these Jilbere de Paris Ergo-Grip Shears. I really liked how sharp they were. Price: around $22

After I got home, I couldn't wait to get started! (However, I took a nap with Khloa) I just don't feel right about my hair when the ends are not right. It seemed like ssk's had taken over my ends. I was SO tired of feeling the little balls on the ends. Ladies be ware! Stretch the hair frequently to avoid knots. I think I may write a post on how to avoid the knots....stretching is a key aspect.

Quick length check beforehand. (almost 17 months of growth) Tension stretched blown out hair.

About 2 inches off. Instant feel good moment. :D

End result.

My ends feel so much better. While trimming, I noticed that I really didn't have any split ends. Almost none. It was those dang knots that were everywhere!! Mostly in the front of my hair where the color is. If you're a recent natural, please stay on top of your ends. I should've started stretching my hair a lot sooner than I did. I still rock my 'fro, but just not as much as I used to.

One Tip to Keep Your Hair Happy!

You know those days when you want to try out a really cute hairstyle. You go in the bathroom all excited & proceed to style your hair into your latest idea. And then it happens! Your hair will NOT cooperate. At all. Sighs, frustration, grumbling, and repeated attempts usually follow to no avail. Every woman knows how this feels. This same thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago before venturing out to the Houston Greek Fest. Over the years, I've learned to handle these situations a lot better & really accept the fact that my hair has a mind of it's own.

.....and this is what my hair wanted to do!! lol

Maya Water Facial Mist: My life saver for this Houston heat! Khloa loves when I spray this on her! The mist instantly cools me down.

The solution? Let your hair do what it wants to do. Give your hair what it wants & needs. There's no point/use in battling with your hair. Your hair will always win. Realizing that is half the battle. Example: If your hair is dry & you don't moisturize it, your hair will break. See? lol, Give your hair what it wants & you'll live a happier life! ;-) (via my Facebook page)

#BrunchWithEDEN Recap! (PIC Heavy!)

Hey guys!! :-)

So you guys already know that I attended the #BrunchWithEDEN on Sunday, May 20th right here in Houston. :-) Along with being apart of the hosting committee, I was also shipped the entire EDEN BodyWorks Jojoba Monoi line to try out. I received them a few days before the brunch...and my hair needed a good wash so it was the perfect time to try the products! Here's the style I rocked...

A bantu knot out on tension stretched hair moisturized with the EDEN BodyWorks Jojoba Monoi Hair Milk & Cantu Shea Butter Leave In Conditioner. My hair was SUPER moisturized. Next time, I'll just do the hair milk w/o the Cantu. Ya'll know I haven't done a bantu knot out since last summer!

I did the knots a new way this time to make the knot out last long. I did 2 strand twists in each section, then re-twisted that same section, & then let the hair wind around into a circle. I hope that's a good explanation. I think I'm gonna do a video on what I did because it kind of sounds weird when I explain it. lol. I was going to stay at home after that, but the hubs convinced me that she was okay. She was back to her old self almost immediately after the crying fest that followed when she fell. So I went...

Ylorie really knew the products, ingredients, & how the hair benefits from them. EDEN was started by then 13 year-old Jasmine Lawrence after she had a bad experience with a relaxer. The products contain no alcohol, no petroleum, no mineral oils and no sodium sulfates. Now EDEN is being sold at major retail stores like Sally Beauty & Walmart. If that isn't motivation I don't know what is! This came at the right time for me.

The outfit. A few things. I tweeted about finding a hi-lo dress at one of my fave stores, Ross, for $12. I LOVED this dress. It was just what I was looking for. Very ethnic with unique neck detailing. Also, this nail color may be my favorite of the year that's how much I adore it. I'm in love with this color! Seriously. Ya'll will see it more this summer. It was hit at the brunch! I got it for $2 at Kroger. Brand: Sally Hansen "Pacific Blue".

My 1st time wearing those earrings I made. :D

It even had a little suprise for the back of the dress. ;-)

It was blazing hot in Houston that day, but I'm so glad I got to spend a few hours learning more about EDEN, chatting about hair, & hanging out w/ my blog buddies & some new folks too! RECAP: Kim Cole Celebrates YOU! Event

Last Thursday, the hubs & I + Bopee had the pleasure of attending the Kim Coles Celebrates YOU! event at Natural Resources Salon. I think this is the 1st time the hubs has ever accompanied me to a natural hair event. I usually go with other girls or by myself. His real motive? He wanted to meet Kim Coles! Unfortunately, he didn't get to meet her, but we still had a fabulous time talking with some off of my blog buddies, meeting new people, & eating of course!

Tamara of Natural Hair Rules & Ashley of Medley, Inc. Both of these ladies are awesome!!

Hair: This is the best pic I could get of it. It's a last minute twistout turned into an updo! I set the twistout a few hours before we left....took all of 10 minutes. I tend to do quick twistouts when I'm in a rush, lol. But hey they work for me.

Kim Coles also did a blogger roundtable with the bloggers after the event. I'm gonna upload some of the footage from that as well. :-)

Georgia, One-Woman Play, Coming to Houston & Austin!

Georgia focuses on the relationship of a young couple, using four characters to analyze and open the door on one of the most taboo interactions between a man and a woman in a relationship: RAPE. The play is suitable for all pg-13+ audiences and has already found success with sold-out shows at New York City's famous Nuyorican Poets Café, a Mother's Day Dinner & a Play presentation, a presentation at New Jersey City University & Fordham University, and a one-night performance at Washington D.C.'s Busboys and Poets. The play was also performed as part of the United Solo Theater Festival & The One Theater Festival in NYC.

The play is written by Houston native, Fariso Jordan, who also handles the acting duties for the 75-minute performance.

Georgia debuts in Houston, TX for a three-day run beginning on Friday, May 25th with follow-up shows on the 26th & 27th.

Mother's Day Hair & Style

I spent the day with the hubs & Khlo Face at Bayou Bend Collection & Gardens in Houston where we toured the former historic home of philantropist Ima Hogg. Boasting 19 rooms filled with beautiful art & furnishings, this home was beyond immaculate! The hubs & I were joking about what we would do if this were our home. Dreaming is free. ;-) Chile, I would have dinner parties all the time! I wish I could show you photos of the inside, but we weren't allowed to take photos inside the home...However, you can view pics on their site here.We took our time traveling throughout the house & the 14 acres that surrounded it. Yes. 14 ACRES. All that land. Shout out to the people who keep that land looking gorgeous! Definitely a beautiful & relaxing Mother's Day. (It's been over a year & I still can't believe I'm somebody's mama, lol)

I'm demolished this cake & it was so good!! Hubs got it from HEB for $6. Believe it or not, this was all I wanted. :D #extremecakelover

Natural Hair Puff + Thrift Store Dress

I was scared standing on that plank next to that water ya'll...Not a fan of large bodies of water.

I have been dying to wear this dress! I purchased it from the Family Thrift Center here in Houston for $6.47. :-) As you can tell from the pics, this dress was blowing in the wind all day yesterday. This is the perfect dress for a nice spring or summer day. The brand is Derek Heart & I recently realized that a lot of my dresses are in fact DH. They make some cute dresses!

Nail polish: Wet N Wild "Sunny Side Up"
I really like this color!

Hair: I didn't know what to do with my hair so after I moisturized with CARA B Naturally Daily Moisturizer & applied aloe vera gel to my edges, I threw it in a puff. Ohhhhh. Ohhhh. Ohhhh. Just throw it in a puff! lol! Turned out pretty good too...

1st Braid Out on Natural Hair!

Look at Bopee Bo! She looked so pretty in her little dress.

Owwwww. The back. Man, I wanna go back and get the purple & blue colors too!

Dress snagged at Ross for $9. Oh and I experimented white nails! :-) I'm surprised the hubs didn't say anything crazy like, "Why do you have white out on your nails?"

These were taken at Khloa's 1st birthday party & throughout the day. I don't think I have a good pic of the braid out when I first separated the braids at the beginning of the day. Too busy running around! This was done on flat ironed hair...told ya'll I would be doing it for real this time! Throughout the day, my hair did fluff out a little on it's own & you guys already know I loved it! LOL, the bigger, the better. Hopefully, we'll have the pics back from the photographer in the next week so I post the celebration (the cake smash & the party pics)! I've already posted a few on the Facebook page. ;-) Check them out! I have wayyyyy more pics to post!

Twist Out 'Froed Out

My hair at the Houston Children's Festival this past weekend. Initially, I did a speedy twist out that I conjured up at the last minute. These are the results after a few hours in the Houston sun....

Prop I found for Khloa's 1st birthday cake smash. ;-)

They haven't invented an anti-humidity cream/gel/spray/ that will hold the 'fro down. LOL

I LOVE WHEN MY HAIR SWELLS LIKE THIS! :D And it was so soft!

P.S. I don't know what that is in my hair... : \

Khloa's 1st Birthday & Hair Talk

Hey guys!

Sorry for the lack of posts! I've been so busy over the last week getting Khloa's 1st birthday shendig details together! She's having a birthday cake smash photo shoot on her birthday which is April 5th & then a birthday party on the 7th. I'm SO EXCITED!!! :D Ya'll, I'm so engulfed in the details of her celebration...everything has to be just so. I want the shoot & her birthday party to scream, "Khloa!" Ya'll know how I do! If you don't, take a gander at her 1 month shoot (which continues to be one of my popular posts) We also have family coming in town! :D Some may say, "She won't even remember the party/cake smash." This could be true, but she'll have these photos to look back on for the rest of her life. :-) That's extremely important to me.

I've been rocking a curly 'fro for like a week now. I know I said I'd be giving them a break due to the ssk's, but I couldn't help it! This style is just toooo easy & it's a time saver! This is why it will forever be a staple of mine. Flat-ironing my hair (for real this time!) sometime in the next week or so to do a length check & cut out those dang ssk's...I may also do a trim depending on how my ends look.
