Or wishful thinking?

What is the definition of insanity? I would like to answer my life! But I believe the correct answer is doing the same thing over and over and getting the same result. Or something like that. I am going from memory.

Point being, it is time for a change. And what better time of year to start than the holiday season. So I am making my resolutions before the New Year. Why? Because it never works when I do it in January. So lets shake it up!

I have already started. For the Christmas season I have a hit list of things that I like for me and the family to do. It never gets done but to my suprise I am on top of it this year. Santa (Granite Run mall, no line). Check. Tickets for the girls to see the Nutcracker at Nuemann. Which my daughter declares the best performance. Check. Still working on Longwood Gardens. And the list goes on.

I have this one resolution so far. It is to get things done. So I am starting early and working on the check list and hopefully when New Years gets here rather than resolving I will hopefully be relaxing.
It is like there is no one else who exisits. Let's try and snap them out of it!

Did you ever notice in the WaWa (especially during busy times) there is a flow? A polite and courteous dance that moves beautifully. The doors are held open. People make room at the coffee counter. And my personal favorite.......People have their money ready and move after paying. It is a beautiful thing!

Why does that flow not work everywhere? Remember everyone has a day to get thru. When you see a car merging...let it in! When you are in a drive thru know what you want........ or park and go in! And to make someone feel good hold the door and smile. Works everytime.

Have a Happy 4th!!!!!

Here are links to plan a fun filled weekend:
Plants growing from a seed into a sprout and the roots developing and etablishing themselves in one place. Expanding and intertwining. Growing stronger and thriving.

So when the topic comes up (and it does quite frequently) of moving or staying I like to side with the roots. To live in one place (this place). To know your neighbors and the businesses that surround you. It seems so natural.

It is however sometimes hard to take the natural approach. There are may factors to this topic. Schools, taxes, traffic, jobs, loves and the list goes on. It is a tough topic. I have heard many arguments on both sides. I have watched people struggle with making such a decison. I do not envy them.

But I hope in the end it will all come back to the roots.

5 things I love about summer

Community Day
Or should I say week. Every year gets better and better. Between the theme nights, parade, rides and food, how could you not love this fast growing tradition.

Gardening
Yes I actually have some plants growing. Hopefully I will get some fruits and veggies.

Picnics at the river front
Marcus hook has a great park to spend a few hours right on the water.

Walking
Beween my hilly neighborhood and the track at the Sr. high I will be spending some serious time working off all the bbq.

CBL Baseball
There is nothing better than spending a warm evening at the field watching the kids play. The season is ending and I am already starting to miss it.
They work long hard hours. They don't get paid and a lot of times they don't even get a thank you. They are the countless volunteers that want to make our schools, churches and communities great.

Chi offers great sport programs, plenty of things to do and so many special events I have lost count. And volunteers make it happen. The next time you are at the Rec Center or a sports event or one of the many other school or community functions take a moment to truely appreciate what goes into it. But there is nothing cute and clever about this.

The Chichester School District is going to be hit hard if the proposed State Budget is passed. Let's be as informed as possible. Let's read the information that is available and have a voice. I have included several links below which I found helpful including a sample letter to send to Domenic Pileggi and Steve Barrar and an email petition on the PSEA site.
Are we going to pay for day care all summer? Or is there an alternative for my kids? Our schedule requires a full day. Most camps dont offer this. And what camps go all summer? What am I missing? How do working parents make it through the summer? I really like the day care we use but my kids are getting older and they will not be able to go there much longer. Maybe someone will start a full day camp that is reasonably priced and runs all summer. Anyone? Yes, in all aspects of life. But for the purpose of this post let's focus on actual gardening.

What is the secret? Where are all the beautiful veggies that I hope for every Spring? Why can't I get my garden to grow? Every year at this time I make the resolution to succeed and and every year I fail (again lets stick to gardening please).

My husband built me raised beads for a small garden that gets about 6 hours of light during the day. With lot's of rocks that needed to be cleared. Why are there so many rocks!!!!!

We start from seeds and seedlings which have already started to grow. And we plant in early May. We have tomatoes, peppers, strawberries, green beans, cucumber, carrots and corn.....oh and watermelon and pumpkin. Ok maybe we went a little overboard. But this year I am determined to harvest actual veggies and hopefully some fruit. I mean this used to be farm land right? How hard can it be? All advise welcome in the comments. Together we can help my garden survive.

Random stuff

We are off to see the Wizard
Will it be two hours late? Will we be off the entire day? It was all so exciting!

Now there is no waiting or anticipating..... I am overloaded with weather, school and activity information. I guess it is my own fault. In this day and age the infomation is so easily accessible I can't get enough. I have the Chi District alert system setup to call my home with school updates. But what if I am not home? Well I have KYW alerts texting and calling my cell phone. And what about work? They call or text the cell. And what about activities? Emails, texts, calls and website updates. For even more info I log on to FB to find out how the roads are and how everyone else is dealing with the weather.

Talk about too much information!!!! In the middle of one of our latest weather emergencies I spent an hour counting how many messages/calls I made and got. By the end of the hour I had lost count and was more stressed and frazzled than before I had any info. So at this point I think I am officially too informed! Well about the weather anyway. ;)

Yes it is cold and the nights are longer and there is snow storm on top of snow storm. But with the bad comes the good.

Sledding is so much fun. I took the kids to Furey Rd. today and they had a blast. It is a rare treat to get this much snow. I remember a few big snow storms that we truely got to enjoy sledding when I was growing up. But nothing like the last few years. So grab a sled and get out and enjoy it.

Snow Days (even 2 hour delays) can be a good thing! Stay in bed and worry about the shoveling later. Believe me it will still be there. I have also started to embrace being stuck in the house. It forces me to slow down. And you know what? I like it!

Cold means warm tea and comfort food. Wearing big comfy clothes and snuggling on the couch. Ahhhh if I only had a fireplace.

Don't get me wrong I am looking forward to warm weather and getting out of the house just as much as the next person. But for now I am going to enjoy winter for just a little longer.
