Everyone's hugging each other. We've heard stories of crying. What in the season finale is going to get you, as an actor, and you, as Casey to cry?</span><p /><span style="">Adam: Huh. Casey doesn't cry, who told you that? Um, I think Casey goes out with a bang. Or so I've been told. You know, it's emotional. For me I've been through a series before where there have been endings that have been premature. This one- -while we would have loved to have another 9 episodes to get through the whole season - think 91 episodes of a show that was on the bubble is a good long run. I feel satisfied with the course that we've taken. I'm grateful that we were able to get this far. So I don't feel sad. I know have all these people's phone numbers, I have their emails.</span><p /><span style="">Q: You don't feel sad?</span><p /><span style="">Adam: I have their emails.</span><p /><span style="">Yvonne: He's a heartless bastard, that's why. [Laughs]</span><p /><span style="">Q2: See they said you had no tear ducts, is that true? &nbsp;[Laughs]</span><p /><span style="">Adam: Hey if he'd have written me to cry, I could have cried. You know the secret to crying right, on camera?</span><p /><span style="">Yvonne: What's that Adam?</span><p /><span style="">Adam: You just think of something sad. It's easy. It's a cackle.</span><p /><span style="">Q: On the other hand, Yvonne, you've known as one of the worst-one of the people who can't stop crying.</span><p /><span style="">Yvonne: I can't stop crying. I cried every day this whole month. I cried yesterday.</span><p /><span style="">Adam: Why? Are you going to miss us?</span><p /><span style="">Yvonne: I've just been crying. I'm going to cry now. It's horrible. I cried yesterday, I did my last fight scene ever.</span><p /><span style="">Q: Adam you've been through this, do you have advice for Yvonne?</span><p /><span style="">Adam: Oh she's going on to bigger and better things, she's got nothing to cry about. She's got all our phone numbers and emails, she'll see us around. Once in a while.</span><p /><span style="">Yvonne: Once in awhile.</span><p /><span style="">Adam: Down the road.</span><p /><span style="">Yvonne: Hmm.</span><p /><span style="">Adam: That's the funny thing about Hollywood, Yvonne walked off a plane into a new family here and a new working atmosphere. And now she's got her feet dug in Los Angeles and she's established, she's going to be around for a long time. So it's really great to see nice people succeed.</span><p /><span style="">Yvonne: That was very nice, thank you. [Laughs]</span><p /><span style="">Q: He's trying to make you cry.</span><p /><span style="">Yvonne: Yeah, you trying?</span><p /><span style="">Q: Let's talk about how Chuck and Sarah are such an important emotional thru line of the show and [about how in] the finale that's really touched upon. Are you happy to see how they dealt with that relationship one last time?</span><p /><span style="">Yvonne: In the finale episode?</span><p /><span style="">Q: Yeah.</span><p /><span style="">Yvonne: Um, I have to say&hellip;it's um-uh, how do I say this? The last episode, what is happening between Chuck and Sarah is, I think is going to weigh heavy on people's hearts. It's not um-well, I don't know, there's not a lot I can say without giving it away. There's a definite element of sadness and stuff that we have to go through to get to the final moment.</span><p /><span style="">Adam: Comedic side of this commentary that we've been doing.</span><p /><span style="">Yvonne: And there's the final...</span><p /><span style="">Q: But does it end in a happy way that the fans can hopefully not have to go to therapy?</span><p /><span style="">Adam: Come on, it's a comedy.</span><br style="" /><br style="" /><span style="">Yvonne: It's a nice note. It's a nice note. It ends on a&hellip;it's a nice note but what is happening, and you'll see throughout the season is that things will be revealed sooner than just the final episode. I mean you'll see what I mean when it happens.</span><p /><span style="">Q: Someone was asking me how you feel about being the hot nerd on TV.</span><p /><span style="">Yvonne: The hot nerd? Oh I'm a nerd too?</span><p /><span style="">Q: Yeah. You've given all the nerds out there something to look forward to.</span><p /><span style="">Yvonne: Um, hot nerd? I don't know, it's so weird. I didn't like-they put me in a pair of high heels in the pilot and I didn't know how to walk in them, you know? I never, now I do&hellip;look at these things. It's just I've always been a tomboy so being thrown into the "hot nerd" category&hellip;</span></p> <p><span style="">&nbsp;</span>[Editor's Note: They were maybe 6 inch monster heels!]<p /><span style="">Adam: The glam&hellip;</span><p /><span style="">Yvonne: ...the glam thing has been very interesting to me.</span><p /><span style="">Adam: That's one of the most endearing things about Yvonne is, she really is this rugged tomboy type character from Australia. Who...</span><p /><span style="">Yvo</span><span style="">nne: Now let's not give away too much, huh? Who?</span></p> <p><br style="" /><span style="">Adam: ...is able to embody that glam, geeky, nerdy&hellip;</span><p /><span style="">Yvonne: That's very kind of you to put it that way.</span><p /><span style="">Adam: &hellip;hot nerd. But she's got this, behind the scenes bawdiness that reminds me of Carol Burnett in her hey day. Which is just lovely for just a bunch of guys. Because movie sets are just guys with a few ladies sprinkled in to keep us honest. And Yvonne&hellip;</span><p /><span style="">Yvonne: [Laughs] I'm not really a lady, let's just say that one.</span><p /><span style="">Adam: Yes, you are. Yes, you are.</span><p /><span style="">Yvonne: Really?</span><p /><span style="">Adam: Yes, you are.</span><p /><span style="">Yvonne: Oh, okay.</span><p /><span style="">Q: So you're really happy?</span><p /><span style="">Yvonne: &nbsp;I mean overall, I'm really happy with the journey that Sarah Walker has had from the sort of the emotional stunted spy who didn't know how to express herself going into somebody who was more emotional and being able to express that. And then getting more into the comedy stuff of the show. And she fell into a "normal" relationship, as normal as you can get with somebody when you're a spy. It's been a really nice evolution.</span><p /><span style="">Q: We've talked a little bit with Chris about a spinoff, and a Sarah Walker spinoff, would you be game? I'd love to see one, I'm a SWFG so&hellip;Would you be game for a spinoff?</span><p /><span style="">Yvonne: Uh, I don't know.</span><p /><span style="">Adam: If the price was right.</span><p /><span style="">Yvonne: [laughs] ha, you know two million an episode. [Laughs]</span><p /><span style="">Q: You'd have more fun doing movies, though.</span><p /><span style="">Yvonne: I don't know. Look, this has been a long run. I won't lie, the hours are very difficult on a show like this. I think we're all a bit worn out.</span><p /><span style="">Adam: We're satisfied.</span><p /><span style="">Yvonne: We're satisfied beyond belie...with the hours. Right now I think I need to take a deep breath and take a break and do something a little easier on the body. I mean for me, especially the fight scenes and everything, when you get sick, you're sick for a long time. You just have to keep working through it because you just can't rest up. So it's um--I need to give my body a break, a little bit.</span><p /><span style="">Q: How about something a little more fun for the fans? Everybody knows this is one of the most fun casts off camera in the business. Give us the best prank.</span><p /><span style="">Yvonne: Oh that's too filthy.</span><p /><span style="">Q: Have you done any pranks to get them back?</span><p /><span style="">Adam: Oh she&hellip;sure.</span><p /><span style="">Yvonne: Yes. Yes, but they're really gross.</span><p /><span style="">Adam: They're really gross.</span><p /><span style="">Yvonne: It's inappropriate. It's inappropriate.</span><p /><span style="">Q: So what's the first thing you guys are going to do once you have your weekends back. Once you have your time back. The first thing you want to do that you haven't been able to.</span><p /><span style="">Yvonne: Sleep.</span><p /><span style="">Adam: Gun range. That's what everyone wants to hear.</span><p /><span style="">Q: Adam, are we going to see more of the Gertrude relationship? It seems like Casey's really, finally met his match there, will that progress throughout the season?</span><p /><span style="">Adam: There is some closure with that relationship. There's some closure, and I think that relationship is really starting to gel. I loved working with Carrie-Anne Moss, a true professional, a mother of beautiful kids. A very stable, relaxed, confident professional to work with.</span><p /><span style="">Yvonne: And have some sexy time&hellip;</span><p /><span style="">Adam: Damn sexy time. Sexy time two.</span><p /><span style="">Q: Do you guys know there's a hashtag on twitter, "#sexytime"? [Laughs]</span><p /><span style="">Q: Speaking of duos, how do you feel about you and Joshua Gomez teaming up in the last couple of seasons?</span><p /><span style="">Adam: We've been uh-again Gomez is hilarious to work with, he always got, he always brings the pizazz to the scene, and I'm just the quiet, sniper butler that gets to hopefully close it out (if the writers give me a good line at the end) but I just play off of him and roll with it. We were joking earlier about putting together an "Of Mice and Men" production off Hollywood Boulevard. I think that would be great."Tell me about the rabbits, George." I don't know if we're going to get that up and running. Yeah Casey-Morgan spinoff, oh god. Grampa Casey. Can you imagine like season 6 with Alex and Morgan, they have a little pike running around and Casey's got to come in and be Grampa? Nah. Then I would insist they kill me.</span><p /><span style="">Q: So is that a spoiler, that Casey actually gets Alex to take him back?</span><p /><span style="">Adam: What?</span><p /><span style="">Q: I'm asking.</span><p /><span style="">Adam: Did I? Good G-nah. Take me back&hellip;oh gosh it probably could happen, being a comedy, and a lighthearted sort of thing but I'm not sure yet. I mean I don't read the scripts so I wouldn't know.</span><p /><span style="">Q: Yvonne, you're deep in contemplation, what are you going to take away from this?</span><p /><span style="">Yvonne: A world of memories.</span><p /><span style="">Q: You look like you're going through them now. You got a favorite one? A favorite episode?</span><p /><span style="">Yvonne: A favorite episode, man. I loved the Thailand episode. Phase Three. I mean there's so many moments though. I think in particular, this season for me, has been one of my favorite ones. I think we've bonded a lot more knowing that it's the end. Especially the last month, we've been hanging out more as a cast. Just allowing us the time to soak it all in before it all ends.</span><p /><span style="">Q: And who is the best actor you've kissed on Chuck?</span><p /><span style="">Yvonne: Are you--I counted the other day how many people I've kissed and it's not that many. &nbsp;It's Bryce, Chuck, Daniel Shaw&hellip;</span><p /><span style="">Q: Beefcake.</span><p /><span style="">Yvonne: ...Beefcake, and that nerd guy in that one episode and then there's no more.</span><p /><span style="">Adam: It's funny they know how you've kissed more than you do.</span><p /><span style="">Q: I promised that I would ask this because I get a lot of questions for you from Sarah Walker fans and Yvonne fans as a SWFG, and they want to know if they're going to see you--you have a lot of international fans--will they get to see you somewhere international? It was the second to last day of filming and the cast and crew were fatigued, running 2-3 units in a week to film the two-hour finale to air this January 27<span class="s1">^th</span>. Their filming days were starting at dusk, and stopping at dawn, and they were coming back to do it all over again the next day.</p> <p class="p4"><strong>Zachary Levi</strong> talked a little bit about the TV business being more of an assembly line</p> <p class="p4">&ldquo;You're a factory and everyone is a part of doing that&rdquo;.</p> <p class="p4"><strong>Yvonne Strahovski</strong> point blank talks about how worn out everyone is.</p> <p class="p4">&ldquo;I won&rsquo;t lie, the hours are very difficult on a show like this. I think we&rsquo;re all a bit worn out.&rdquo;</p> <p class="p4">Despite the fatigue, the running theme of the day was High Emotion. Everyone seemed incredibly sad that their five-year, fan rallied run was coming to an end. The cast has genuine affection for each other, and the praise each of them has for the others could have filled my recorder&rsquo;s space.</p> <p class="p4">Fedak: <span class="s2">&nbsp;&ldquo;</span>Everybody is losing their business every day. It's really our biggest struggle trying to keep each other together for once&hellip;Yvonne has been the weak link this time. We're on set, shooting what is the final scene of the series and she was crying and she turns to me and she says, "say something funny." I had to tell her, "Josh handles the funny, I handle the action."</p> <p class="p4">Yvonne: &ldquo;I've just been crying. I'm going to cry now. It's horrible. I cried yesterday, I did my last fight scene ever.&rdquo;</p> <p class="p4"><strong>Adam Baldwin</strong>: &ldquo;Oh she's going on to bigger and better things, she's got nothing to cry about. She's got all our phone numbers and emails, she'll see us around. Once in a while.&rdquo;</p> <p class="p3">Yvonne: &ldquo;Once in awhile.&rdquo;<p /> Adam: &ldquo;That's the funny thing about Hollywood, Yvonne walked off a plane into a new family here and a new working atmosphere. And now she's got her feet dug in Los Angeles and she's established, she's going to be around for a long time. So it's really great to see nice people succeed.&rdquo;</p> <p class="p4">After hearing such praise and affection between everyone, it became apparent to me that the chemistry that I&rsquo;ve been seeing on-screen, one of the reasons I&rsquo;ve tuned into each episode of Chuck, is rooted in that sense of family off-screen. It isn&rsquo;t manufactured, it&rsquo;s right there, and it&rsquo;s one of the best thing this show has going for it. It&rsquo;s also one of the things that the finale will tap into.</p> <p class="p4"><span style="font-size: medium;"><strong>ECHOES OF THE PAST</strong></span></p> <p class="p4"><span style="font-size: medium;"><strong><div class='p_embed p_image_embed'> <a href="http://getfile8.posterous.com/getfile/files.posterous.com/temp-2012-01-23/qxnufmHDceJuxIetmurbHxlxxrgajgnHJogaAvuceqDhdqrqnbbHEeeyFtIE/N2E5605r4.jpg.scaled1000.jpg"><img alt="N2e5605r4" height="333" src="http://getfile2.posterous.com/getfile/files.posterous.com/temp-2012-01-23/qxnufmHDceJuxIetmurbHxlxxrgajgnHJogaAvuceqDhdqrqnbbHEeeyFtIE/N2E5605r4.jpg.scaled500.jpg" width="500" /></a> </div> </strong></span></p> <p class="p4">After seeing <em>Chuck vs. The Bullet Train</em>, there is a sense of impending doom in hard-core fans who tweet their emotion. The cast and Fedak don&rsquo;t pull back when they talk about what&rsquo;s about to happen. There is a return of the Will They/Won&rsquo;t They dynamic, that a lot of fans hate. Yvonne admits: &ldquo;I think [this storyline] is going to weigh heavy on people's hearts&hellip;There's a definite element of sadness and stuff that we have to go through to get to the final moment.&rdquo;</p> <p class="p4">But the rough journey is directly proportionate to how sweet the payoff will be. Fedak says that this ending has been a year in the making. They&rsquo;ve known how they wanted the series ending to be (and I get a little teary typing that) since the end of the last season.</p> <p class="p4">Zachary: &ldquo;The finale is really like&hellip;what happens in those last few episodes kind of resets the clock in a lot of ways. And you find our heroes almost like you found them in the beginning of the show&rdquo;</p> <p class="p4">Fedak: &ldquo;It's very callbacky. It's very much an episode haunted by previous seasons. You're going to find a lot of echoes. The first half of the night, episode 12, is very much a contained thriller. Then episode 13, every act will have echoes of past seasons and it will make&hellip;you'll see how we'll fold into the story and the narrative will make a lot of sense.&nbsp; But there is something about it&hellip;as we were working on the episode, breaking it in the writers' room, we wanted something that was a play through the entire show, not just this season.&rdquo;</p> <p class="p4">These &ldquo;echoes&rdquo; that Fedak references was evident on set that day. There are echoes that go all the way back to the Pilot, and I had a grin on my face when I saw it. Chuck isn&rsquo;t particularly good at over-arching season-long arcs. This has been proven season after season of villains falling flat. But when they focus on the things they&rsquo;re good at, such the emotional beats of each moment, or focus on the core group working together towards a goal, they&rsquo;re very, very good.</p> <p class="p4">There is a certain catch to the last statement, and that is the fact that Sarah seems to be the Big Bad this time around, to borrow a beloved <strong>Buffy</strong> catch-phrase. Fans seem to worry about whether that will last into the final moments. In Fedak&rsquo;s own words, this finale is a &ldquo;love letter to the fans&rdquo;, and they know exactly how the fans want the show to end: with everyone riding off into the sunset, preferably arm in arm. It will be a final good-bye, a bitter-sweet moment, and everyone gets to have their stories wrapped up tidily.</p> <p class="p4">Zachary: &ldquo;Obviously Chuck and Morgan are going to be best friends for the rest of their lives, Chuck and Ellie are still brother and sister and therefore Awesome is still my brother in law, and Casey would-we would all still continue to see each other in some way shape or form. But the world that's been created, the world we live and worked in is drastically changed and drastically different and so, you know. But we do say goodbyes, at least for the time being. It's gnarly, it's really, really surreal. [But] I don't feel like we were cut short as difficult as it is to have to kind of close the last chapter on this journey.&rdquo;</p> <p class="p4"><span style="font-size: medium;"><strong>STAY CALM AND WATCH ON, AKA DON'T FREAK OUT</strong></span></p> <p class="p4"><span style="font-size: medium;"><strong><div class='p_embed p_image_embed'> <a href="http://getfile6.posterous.com/getfile/files.posterous.com/temp-2012-01-23/zgqvyoeoetrhGarshCkhtoscaizfnIJeBhhnFhzhcifsqmkqImCumIpEDItJ/N2E5712r4.jpg.scaled1000.jpg"><img alt="N2e5712r4" height="333" src="http://getfile5.posterous.com/getfile/files.posterous.com/temp-2012-01-23/zgqvyoeoetrhGarshCkhtoscaizfnIJeBhhnFhzhcifsqmkqImCumIpEDItJ/N2E5712r4.jpg.scaled500.jpg" width="500" /></a> </div> </strong></span></p> <p class="p4">The question was posed to Fedak on whether the fans would need group therapy after the finale, but I thought Zac&rsquo;s reply answered it better:</p> <p class="p4">&ldquo;I can only assume and hope that the fans as they're watching these episodes, the finale, the two hour special are going to feel the same way. But it's good, it's cathartic, it's therapeutic. It's not necessarily tears of joy but it's tears of love. And I hope that the fans all feel that&rdquo;</p> <p class="p4">It seems like they expect the fans (including me!) to do a lot of crying, but it&rsquo;s not without the fun. The callback part to the Pilot alone is worth tuning in for. And Jeffster, for the numerous fans who adore them, including Fedak who said that given the choice would give them a spinoff, does give one final performance. Let&rsquo;s just say if you like the Norwegian pop band <strong>A-ha</strong>. You will like their choice of song.</p> <p class="p4">At the end of the day I had a really good feeling about the finale that nothing the past episodes have introduced could shake. Not all finales are created equal, but season after season, Chuck finales &ndash;and even fake-out finales &ndash; have usually been spot on when it comes to tapping into the emotional core of the show. The spy stuff is all trappings. It&rsquo;s the empty tub after a really good movie. The kernel of Chuck is in Team Bartowski, and the butter is all the added goodness to it: the family aspect in terms of the Awesomes and Alex, how Team B and that family aspect relate to each other, and the little moments in between.</p> <p class="p4">So one last time I say to Chuck fans: &ldquo;Don&rsquo;t Freak Out.&rdquo;</p> <p class="p4">And to Chuck? You were really emotional then. Has any of that emotion subsided? Do you still hang out with some of the cast and crew?</p> <p><strong>A:</strong> Some of the emotion has subsided, but I still get very teary when I talk about the last week of filming. I haven't seen anyone from the show since we wrapped because I flew to Miami, then Bora Bora and then there were the holidays with lots of family time.</p> <p><strong>Q:</strong> What's been your most favorite part about Sarah Walker in terms of her inner character? What are you going to miss most about her?</p> <p><strong>A:</strong> Oh man - there's a lot I love about Sarah Walker. I love her bad ass-ness. I love that she grew to be more open emotionally. And that a 'normal way of living' became more comfortable for her. I love that she allowed herself to fall in love. I'll miss all of the above about her. I'll definitely miss kicking ass.</p> <p><strong>Q</strong>: A lot of fans praise you in particular for being able to evoke emotions with just a look. How do you prepare for the big emotional scenes in your work?</p> <p><strong>A:</strong> I do a lot thinking about the scene. I figure out exactly how Sarah would feel in the moment. What she would be thinking and what she would be doing, or wanting to do or say, versus what she is unable to do or say in the moment ...</p> <p><strong>Q:</strong> What are your hopes for the future in terms of the direction of your career?</p> <p><strong>A: </strong>I hope to play a variety of different, juicy characters. I hope to touch on a variety of different genres, and do some film now that I've done&nbsp;years of television.
