People that are interested in genealogy and family history research have all become familiar with the fact that now certain scientific evidence for ancestors and certain other relatives may be proven through the use of Genealogy DNA testing. By studying the Y-chomosome of males and the mtDNA chromosomes in both males and females certain evidence becomes incontrovertible.

We as publishers of this blog at www.Old-Newspaper-Articles.com are also genealogists, so it seems only right that we use the resources of our primary sponsor to go and look up information on the early reporting of DNA studies in the archived newspaper database that we promote with pride.

Watson and Crick:

James Watson and Francis Crick are credited as being the co-discoverers of the doubler helix in the 1950′s and so by going to our account and doing a keyword search for Watson, Crick, DNA and helix, we find a great many newspaper articles with those search terms. Then wanting to read some of the earlier newspaper reports about DNA in old newspaper articles we limited the search returns to between the years of 1950 and 1968, and did find several relevant articles to read.

One of the earliest articles that we found was published in the December 7th, 1953, El Paso Herald-Post on the front page, titled: “Proposed Chemical Formula Major Step in Solving the Mystery of Life.”

The article goes on to say, in part, “One of the fundamental problems of living matter is the way life is handed on – that is, how the molecules that carry on heredity are duplicated within the cells.” “This sort of chemical is the essence of life.”

It goes on to tell how James Watson and Francis Crick collaborated in London and Cambridge University to discover the double helix and to start cracking genetic codes that show how we carry certain gene sets from both parents in each and every human and living thing that grows through cell expansion and splitting.

One of the Worlds Most Important Substances:

Continuing, “Many lines of evidence indicate that DNA is the carrier of a part, if not all, of the genetic specificity of the chromosomes. Thus it is the chemical of the genes, the actual transmitting agent of all characteristics of the parents to their off-spring. It is one of the world’s most important substances.”

We would encourage the genealogy bug in you to send for a DNA testing kit and get in on the fun and excitement of locating direct and distant relatives through a combination of good old fashioned genealogy research and link it all together through DNA science.

While you are at it go ahead and click on one of the banner ads here to go and check out the archived newspapers that are available to you online and take advantage of their Free Trial to see if it something that you want to use in your research.

You meet the nicest people through DNA studies.

For some, a newspaper database sounds a little strange. How could you form a database out of a stack of old newspapers? Thanks to the digitization of the newsprint some years back, the formation of a database is now possible.

At first, the databases that were being established were quite small. It was not for a lack of material, just a lack of digitized material. What has helped to propel the movement to scan and post old newspapers on the internet and enter them in databases is the need to preserve them.

Just like back in the 1960s and the introduction of microfiche to save the old papers. The paper itself was deteriorating so photographing the pages and making this database of history open to the public became the norm. In effect, history has been preserved on the 50 year old microfiche, which is simply a process of scanning the images into a new medium.

The libraries and publishers all had their own private databases of material up until the invention of the internet. These collections were open to the public, but to view the material you had to physically visit their location. With the internet, the scanned material is now being posted on the web so access by the masses is simpler.

The posting of all the old newspapers and other documents on the internet has made acquiring knowledge about the past vastly easier. The only complaint from genealogist, historians and other researchers is not that the information is not accessible, but that it is scattered across the web.

This is where the privately assembled database like Newspaper Archive became popular. This site has taken many different sources of material and brought them all together in one place. This way, less time is spent searching for the right site and more time reading the old data.

If you are in search of a newspaper database, try Newspaper Archive. They have collected billions of archived data from around the world and have made them available to all of their members. No longer are researchers scouring the internet for information. They can find most of what they need right here.

Note that this largest collection of old newspapers is a subscription database, however you may

You might want to check out some other newspaper data bases online:

Knowing how to find old Job Ads is an increasing item people are in search of with the internet. Many things can be learned by those in search of them. This includes the state of the economy, what types of business were in demand and how the job market in general was doing.

Old Job Ads from 1930

Currently more and more job seekers are looking towards the internet for employment. What most job seekers are not aware of is that this is the same source that old job ads can be found.

The jobs that were posted by business in the past used two major sources to fill their vacancies. There were window ads and newspaper ads. The window ads were just a description of the vacancy on a piece of cardboard that have long be disposed of.

The ads that were placed in the newspapers are still available as historical documents. They can be found at the place they were printed like the newspapers historical archives departments. Many of the public libraries also saved certain publications that reach back over 100 years. In most cases because of the area needed to store the original papers became so great, the documents were first transfers to microfiche.

Microfiche copies take up less storage space, but a person would still need to travel to the site of their location to review their contents. With the expansion of the internet, most places have decided to transfer the documents in their possession this new media format.

The publication of these documents on the web has allowed more people to research their content with greater ease. If you know of what publication that has the ad you need, more than likely you can find it at their webpage. For more variety the public library sites can be used but this still has a limited selection.

For the greatest selection that can be found is at old newspaper membership sites. There are a few that have downloaded over 1 billion pages of historical documents that can be viewed in the privacy of your own home. This is how to find old Job Ads in the greatest number can be found in one place. What is really nice is that this kind of access can be had for just pennies a day.
