How to Store your Beloved Bike: Tips and Tricks

It is important to know how to store your bicycle. Here are some considerations when thinking about bicycle storage for your needs.
Types of Bicycles
When planning your bicycle storage, consider what type of bicycles you will be storing:

Road bicycles are lightweight bicycles with skinny, low-tread tires. They are designed for fast travel on paved roads. If you commute, you will want a storage option that allows for quick retrieval and parking.
Mountain bicycles are heavy-duty bicycles with wide treaded wheels. They provide plenty of shock absorption suitable for riding unpaved trails. These bikes can get quite muddy, so outdoor storage may be preferable.
Electric bicycles are outfitted with a battery-powered motor, making cycling accessible for all. Whether storing indoors or outside, make sure you protect the motor of this type of bicycle from rain and wind.
Folding bicycles are a compact, commuter-friendly option that’s portable and easy to store. You may be able to get by with a simple rack or even a shelf to store this type of bicycle.
Recumbent bicycles are low to the ground and offer a unique silhouette to consider for your storage solution. They’re a great candidate for an outdoor bicycle shed or tent.

Do you have multiple types of bicycles to store? Will you get a new type of bicycle in the future? Plan ahead to save on installation costs.
Bicycle Storage Consideration
There are a number of important factors to consider when planning your storage solution.
The size of your bicycles determines which storage options will minimize the space they take up. Consider both the frame and the size of your wheels. Depending on the space you have available, you may want to store your bicycle with the side flat against the wall, or vertically with wheels perpendicular to the wall.
The type of bicycle you own can also guide your decision. Do you own a road bike that you use to commute every day? Or do you own a mountain bike that you take out for weekend rides twice a month? Some storage options are more accessible than others.
Check the weight of your bicycles and make sure whatever option you select can provide the support it needs. Lightweight road bikes can be mounted on most hooks and walls. If you own a heavy mountain bike, you might want to consider a floor rack or a hoist with a high weight limit.
Will strangers have access to your bicycle storage area? If so, you will want to research security options to prevent theft. Chains and locks go a long way to protect your bicycle, but make sure you secure your wheels, frame, handlebars, and seat. Keep your bicycle covered for extra security through obscurity.
Wall and floor protection is another factor. This is an important consideration for tenants and homeowners alike. Tires can leave unsightly marks, and it only takes one wrong move to knock a hole in the drywall with a heavy bike. If your bicycle storage will have high traffic, try to install it in an area that can support it.

Will you store your bicycle indoors or outside? Both offer pros and cons:
Indoor storage keeps your bicycle better secured against the elements and from theft.
However, indoor storage can also increase the risk of damaging floors and walls. It is also inconvenient if you live on the second floor or higher of a building.
Outdoor storage ensures more room to keep your bicycle and less worry about the mess when engaging in repair and maintenance.
But outdoor storage also requires that you take steps to cover your bicycle and invest in a security solution.

Whether you live in a home or an apartment will determine what kind of storage you have at your disposal. You might prefer outdoor storage, but you simply may not have the option. This is where creative indoor solutions really shine.
Bicycle storage is something you can do yourself. It can be a fun weekend project that lets you exercise your creativity and craftsmanship. It’s a great way to free up space and help organize your bicycle repair workspace at the same time.
For expediency’s sake, you may want to hire a professional. A professional installer can ensure security and quality in a fraction of the time it takes to install by yourself.
Best Way to Store your Bicycle at Home or your Apartment
There are a multitude of indoor storage solutions at your disposal. The best indoor storage is the one that promotes ease of use while ensuring minimal space usage.
Try a wall-mounted storage hook. This lets you display your bike in the hallway or in a room while minimizing its space profile. You can also use a storage hook in the garage to keep your bicycle out of the way of your car.
A bicycle storage wall provides room to stack multiple bikes in the same area. This is a great solution for households with multiple riders, or for the avid collector.
If you have a room with high ceilings or a garage, you can store your bicycle high on the wall with a hoist and pulley system. This is an intriguing space-saving solution that makes it easy to retrieve your bicycle when you need it.
For the best space-saving option, outdoor storage solutions are the way to go. A parking rack offers a classic organizational system with a chic urban feel. Standing wall racks let you stack multiple bikes vertically.
A covered balcony combines the space-saving convenience of outdoor storage with the protection and security of indoor options. You can even use your balcony as a repair and maintenance area with the addition of shelving and tool racks.
For maximum security outdoors, look into installing a bike storage shed. Not only will this prevent theft, but it will also protect your valuable bikes from rain and wind damage. Wood options are relatively lightweight and durable. Metal options provide superior impact resistance for high-wind situations.
If you’re looking for a minimalist solution, try these low-fuss options:

A simple kickstand attachment keeps your bicycle standing upright.
A gravity rack leans against the wall and uses the force of gravity to secure your bicycle.
A floor rack organizes one or multiple bicycles in a standing position.

Looking to add that extra-special touch to your decor? Get creative by using your bicycle rack as a statement piece.

An upright storage solution can work as a room divider to section a larger space. Use in a large living room to form multiple areas for dining and socializing. It makes an incredible conversational piece for friends and family.

Take advantage of high ceilings and turn your bicycle into a crowd-wowing display item with wall brackets mounted high on the wall. This is an excellent option for collectors with rare rides to show off.
Display your bike above your bed or dresser for a charming addition to your bedroom decor. Enthusiasts will love the opportunity to showcase a vintage bicycle, or to keep a treasured possession close by.

Your bicycle can remain relatively clean indoors, but dust can build up on moving parts and hinder smooth operation. A textile cover is a fantastically simple solution to extend the maintenance of your bike indoors. Outdoor solutions include waterproof tents and sheds sized for your bicycle.
Core Bicycle Repair/Maintenance Items
Some storage solutions provide extra space for repair and maintenance essentials. This maximizes convenience and makes repair accessible. Be sure to include these items in your storage repair kit.

A floor pump with a pressure gauge lets you swiftly inflate your tires with just the right amount of air.
Hex wrenches in different sizes let you remove and adjust bike components in a jiffy.
A selection of brushes and rags work to remove grime and oil that build up with daily use.

Bonus: For the passionate competitor
Want to boost your accomplishments in a unique way? Put your race bibs, medals, and trophies on display for all to see.

A standard hook rack lets you hang medallions with ease.
A specialized bib and medal display option consists of a panel to showcase your race bibs along with a series of staggered hooks for hanging medals.
Make your own medal rack from everyday items. You can use a tie rack, an ornament tree, or construct your own with hooks screwed into a wooden dowel.
A hook rack with a display shelf on top provides a handy home for your treasured award, while medals dangle below from the row of hooks.
A standing shelf gives you plenty of space for all your trophies, while bibs can be displayed in easel-back photo frames as a charming complement.

Bicycle storage doesn’t have to break the bank. There are many options available to suit everyone. Whether you’re a casual rider, a daily commuter, or a weekend warrior, your bicycle will benefit from a dedicated storage solution. Prolong the life of your bicycle and protect your treasured possession with a storage solution customized to your lifestyle.

You can ride your bike for exercise, for sport, or for fun. Bike enthusiasts usually have a preference as to city or out-of-the-city biking. There are differences to consider between the two settings.
The Great Outdoors
One of the best reasons to ride in the great outdoors is that there are many options for you. You can ride on the street or off-road in dirt. The scenery when biking in the great outdoors can show you the four seasons at their most beautiful. You can experience life at a slower pace when out of the city, taking the time to let your surroundings envelop you.
While there is more of a chance of an accident in the city, biking in the great outdoors can leave you without cell reception or nearby help if it is needed. If you are biking with a group, someone may have a tire or medical necessities that you don't have in a minor situation. In the case of a major accident, you might not be able to get immediate help. Try not to bike alone in remote areas. If you do, make sure someone knows where you are.
The City
City biking can be beneficial for people who live in areas with larger populations. If you live and work in a city, biking can be the easiest and most economical way for you to get to and from work as well as around town. You don't even need to own your own bike in the city. Many people choose to rent an electric bike, return it when their day is over, and do it again the next time they need to get around the city.
A helmet is advised whenever riding a bike, but especially in the city. The more cars around, the more of a chance of an accident. Even cities with bike lanes are not always safer. City bike riding is notorious for forcing the bicyclists to inhale car fumes and other pollution of the city. Some people wear masks or scarves over their nose and mouth to cut down on inhaling toxic air.
Biking is a way to see the world like no other mode of travel can provide. Whatever type of biking suits you, whether in the city or the great outdoors, you will be getting exercise either way. Make sure to keep your eyes on the road, but also enjoy the scenery along the way.

Electric bike mountain riding has recently taken off with more people discovering its benefits and thrills each and every day. However, before you go on driving towards your nearest mountain trail, it is vital that you adhere to a few suggestions. These will allow you to ensure a safe and an enjoyable experience.
Get in Shape
Although electric bikes do provide some assistance, that doesn’t mean that electric mountain biking is effortless. Electric bikes, much like traditional bikes, still take some effort to use. This is especially true when riding difficult and often dangerous mountain bike routes. So before heading for a ride, it’s a good idea to take a few weeks to get in shape. A mixture of both weight and cardiovascular training would be needed to complete these very difficult routes.
Plan Your Route
Before heading off to your desired spot, make sure that everything is ready for the rough terrain you're no doubt going to experience. If you bring your bike into the mountains with a vehicle, make sure it's equipped to handle the terrain and weather conditions. After the proper equipment has been installed on your vehicle along with a spare tire, you must then focus on the trial itself. Many mountain trails, especially those meant for mountain biking, contain steep mountainsides and wet soil, to name a few obstacles. Consider researching the area before making the trip up. You may consult tools such as Google Earth to get a wide view of the trail as well as those who've already ridden the path before. After all, the name of the game here is safety.
Come Prepared
As you may know, riding through a mountain can be both a long process as well as a very exhausting one. Thus, you expect to have to stop and take a break every once in a while. Bringing along energy bars and plenty of water can help you to carb up and to hydrate you enough to make it through your journey. Note that it is also essential to pack extra food in the event that you are injured and cannot move for hours. It is also highly recommended that electronic bike riders pack additional equipment such as extra cables, lights, and saddles.
Heading to the mountains to have some thrills with your electric bike can be one of the most exciting things to do. However, you must also understand the dangers of this type of thrill. Therefore, it is highly recommended that you adhere to the tips listed above to make your ride that much more enjoyable.

Can You Take Your Hearing Aids With You on Your Bike Ride?

News
<sr:tags>bigcat, ebike blog, ebike news, electricbike, hearing aid, Lisa Sitwell, news, seniors</sr:tags>
Lisa Sitwell

<sr:image>https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0978/3806/articles/Blue_and_Red.png?v=1573694434</sr:image>
Depending on the cause of your hearing loss, learning to exercise with these useful tools in place can be a challenge. If you like to hit it hard and sweat a lot, your hearing aids may be uncomfortable. However, for your safety and enjoyment, it's a good idea to learn to work out with your hearing aids in place. If you're a senior with a hearing aid who is looking forward to riding an ebike, check out these tips.
Why You Need Them
No matter your sport of choice, being able to hear those around you will be helpful. If you're a walker, jogger, or e-cyclist, being able to pick up traffic sounds and sirens can keep you safe. Finally, if you're new to exercising, you'll find that the chances to socialize are much better if you can hear what's going on around you.
Don't Lose Them
For those who sweat a lot, hearing aids can become loose and start to slide around, putting you at risk of losing them. Consult your physician if your hearing aids are consistently loose to get them properly fitted to save you this worry. You want them to fit comfortably but snugly. Depending on the kind of hearing aid, you might find some more comfortable than others. If you're really worried about losing them, invest in a carrying case you can keep in your gym bag to protect them from loss and moisture.
Keep Them Clean
There are accessories, such as hearing aid sleeves, to help you keep your hearing aids in place during your workout. These are especially important if you engage in a bouncy activity, such as jogging or trampoline workouts, or if you enjoy team sports, like basketball, soccer or rugby. Ebike riders may appreciate having a hearing aid sleeve because it prevents the loss of a hearing aid somewhere out on the road and having to backtrack trying to find it. After your workout, be sure to use a cleaning kit and compressed air to clear your hearing aids of debris and moisture. If moisture is allowed to build up inside your hearing aid, it can impact the electronics inside these critical tools and may lead to mold growth.
Hearing aids can completely change your athletic experience. Your teammates, fellow exercisers, cars and emergency vehicles can all become very present once you can hear effectively. While working out in hearing aids will take some adjustment, the effort is completely worth your time.

Not only are they a great way to get around town, but they're also less expensive than a car and less dangerous than a traditional motorcycle. However, new riders must get to know not only how to ride their electric bikes but also how to do so safely. The list below contains some of the best tips to keeping yourself and the public safe the next time you hit the road with your electric bike.
Wear the Right Gear
Don't let the word "bike" fool you; these things can go up to speeds of 20 to 28 miles per hour. Therefore, any spill you may have can leave you with some serious or even fatal injuries. Electric bike users should wear the right protective gear when cycling around town. Good gear includes the right size helmet, elbow pads, and knee pads, as well as a reflective vest for night riders. Want to go above and beyond? Try adding reflectors to your tires if possible or a heavy-duty flashlight to the front of your bike for when you're riding at night or caught in a sudden fog.
Follow the Rules
Many people debate the category of vehicles that electric bikes should be placed in. Some say that they strictly belong on the streets while others state that they should be treated the same as regular bicycles, which can be ridden both on a street and in a bike lane. Nevertheless, you must always adhere to the rules of your local county, state or government regarding electric bikes. When it comes to etiquette, a few things must be kept in mind. An important rule to follow when riding your e-bike is to use proper hand signals in order to help drivers know the direction you're going.
Brake Earlier
The misconception surrounding electric bikes is that they are like regular bicycles just with a little more punch. While electric bikes do look similar to a traditional bicycle, they are not the same in terms of speed. As stated above, electric bikes can reach speeds of over 28 miles per hour. This speed, alongside a person's unfamiliarity, can conflict with their sense of braking. Thus, it is recommended to begin braking sooner before reaching areas such as crosswalks than you would on a traditional bike.
Electric bikes have become extremely popular over the years and rightfully so. They provide people with a means of transportation at lower costs and are great for the environment. However, before you set off onto town, make sure that you deal with any safety concerns.

First was the overwhelming introduction of the pay-to-ride electric scooter that you can find in most larger cities. This not only cut down on costs, but it helped the environment.
Today's newest invention is not only green, but it is something that everyone can own rather than renting. Lately, e-bikes have become more popular than the standard motorcycle, and here's why.
E-Bikes Encourage Exercise
A common question about e-bikes is, how do they work? An e-bike functions, essentially, just like a regular bike with pedals. This encourages exercise among the public because not only do you have to pedal to get the motor going, but you can always choose to switch to pedaling as well.
An additional benefit of the e-bike is its many settings. Want the bike to do all the work? No problem. You can let the motor do all the work. Want to have some control over it? By dialing up or down the pedaling assistance, you can do just that.
Lower Risk of Injury
One of the benefits of owning an e-bike is that most of the rules and regulations concerning regular bikes are the same. Since e-bikes don't go as fast, they do not pose any risk to other riders in the bike lane and, thus, are allowed by many city and state governments.
In addition, you can also choose to go on the roads if you feel safe enough to do so as the e-bike can easily get up to 15.5 miles per hour at its top speed. Understandably, many choose to purchase an e-bike due to wanting a fast form of transportation without having to risk their safety on the roads. Motorcycle injuries, particularly TBIs, can cause permanent disability.
Lower Maintenance and Repair Cost
One of the best things about an e-bike is that most of its parts are incredibly similar to those that you would find on a regular bike. This means that required upkeep, such as maintenance, servicing, and repairs, can be completed within a short period of time and with very little cost to the owner. Have you found yourself stuck on the road needing a part?
An additional benefit to the e-bike is that you can essentially take it anywhere to get it fixed even if the storekeeper isn't an expert in e-bikes. However, if anything goes wrong with the electric components of your e-bike, you might have to consult with an e-bike professional. However, even with that small issue, it is still vastly cheaper to maintain an e-bike than a traditional motorcycle.
Great innovations in transportation have become more frequent in society as well as a lot more affordable. These advancements have led consumers to seek alternative forms of transportation, such as the e-bike. This unique way to get around gives the rider the option of pedaling on his or her own power, relying on the electric motor or both.

Taking a hike is terrific exercise and exciting activity. You can discover lots of fun things about the world around you. Read on for some tips about how to stay safe while doing so.
Enjoy it with a Friend
Going alone offers solitude and time for reflection, but you must always remain alert and aware of your surroundings when you’re alone. A walk around your neighborhood alone is beautiful. If you’re venturing out, then grab a friend or two who would love the adventure. When you’re outdoors in a group, everyone can enjoy themselves and keep an eye on things to remain safe. You can help each other avoid an injury from a fall or bump on the trail.
Prevent Falls
You can have such a marvelous time outdoors when you take a few precautions to ensure a good trip. If you’re going hiking on a trail, use a walking stick to provide balance and added stability. Walking sticks come in a variety of styles, colors, and textures. Many walking sticks can fold easily and be stored in a backpack or purse. Be sure to wear your glasses if you have a prescription. You want to protect yourself from an injury as much as possible. Broken bones in older individuals can take months or even years to heal. Stop for a moment to appreciate your surroundings and grab a few sips of water. Staying hydrated will keep you from feeling lightheaded. Be aware of dips and bends in the trail and large rocks and stones along the path. You can avoid a bike injury by remaining on smooth surfaces as much as possible.
Be Kind to Your Joints
Prepare your joints for outdoor activities by performing stretches before and after you go. Give your joints a light massage and make sure you wear good fitting high-quality shoes for outdoors. If you’re going to be hiking, wear a good pair of hiking boots that have a strong tread pattern and laces that don’t unravel easily. The same is true for walking shoes. Use an e-bike to make bike riding safer. You can pedal as usual on flat surfaces and use the electrical power when traveling over rougher terrain.Getting older is filled with lots of fun with great friends. That’s the cool thing about it: You can still bike every day, whether you’re at home or on vacation at the beach. While it’s always necessary to take some precautions when you’re biking, biking at the beach with an e-bike comes with some extra challenges. Learning how to navigate these challenges allows you to enjoy your time on your e-bike without succumbing to the pitfalls.
They May Need More Upkeep
Some of the e-bike’s advantages can turn into disadvantages. Riding near the beach and in the salty air counts as one of those times. In general, e-bikes are going to require a bit more upkeep due to the fact that they have a motor. Saltwater can cause corrosion, and sand can get into the gears of your bike. Before you take your e-bike to the beach, do be sure to visit a bike shop and get up to speed on how to take care of it. Learning how to troubleshoot the possible problems you could run into while riding on the beach will keep your tires on the sand and the wind in your hair.
The Sun Can Be Rough
This isn’t only an issue with those who are riding e-bikes. The sun can be brutal on “regular” cyclists and pedestrians, too, for that matter. Just like if you're going to the beach, you need to follow some basic safety practices. First, you need to stay hydrated. That means that you need to bring a water bottle along with you when you take your e-bike out for a spin on the beach. Second, you want to protect your skin by wearing a hat and slathering on sunscreen. Finally, avoid overdoing it. The sun is more powerful at the beach because the water and sand reflect the sun’s rays, which can cause sunburn and heat exhaustion a lot more quickly. If you’re feeling hot and fatigued, then stop riding for a while and cool down.
Theft Prevention
With the costs of an e-bike ranging from $1,200 to $6,500, the last thing you want to do is lose it to theft, and at an open space like the beach, your bike is going to be exposed to at least a few people who might want to take it off your hands. That being the case, make sure you find a place at the beach where you can lock up your bike. It’s even better if you can find a bike locker. If you have to park it outside, then leave it somewhere that is lit up like a Christmas tree. You also want to look for a place that has security cameras. Finally, make sure you invest in a good lock. Your run-of-the-mill bike lock might not be enough to deter the most determined thief.
Riding an e-bike on the beach is a real rush. You can feel the ocean air in your hair and can navigate even the toughest sand dunes with a lot more ease. However, riding near the ocean has its drawbacks. From upkeep to theft, e-bikes come with some special challenges. The way to avoid these challenges is to be prepared for them before they happen.

These 5 things are some but not all things to consider when you use your Big Cat Electric bike for both safeties and to prevent damage and voiding your warranty.
1. Leaving ebike powered ON while walking
It is safe to say that when anyone is moving or walking with their bicycle, whether electric or traditional, most will stand on one side of the bike, and grab the handlebars in front of them. This is about the most common and practical way to do so. However, when taking into consideration an ebike, we must remember about the functions of an ebike, one of them, in this case, is the twist throttle. The twist throttle is located at the handlebar grip, usually on the right-hand side of the handlebar. When powered on, a simple twist of the throttle will propel the rider forward and give assistance in riding uphill or on flats. While walking or moving your bike, either in areas where you're required to walk your bike like high traffic areas in parks or walking your bike into your garage, be cautious and power it off. Many incidents have occurred where riders accidentally twist the throttle while walking it or moving it and have lunged forward into walls, fallen on the pavement, lunged forward into cars, or even hit pedestrians and have been injured or damaged their ebikes.
2. Lifting Your eBike From The Seat
In any event that may require you to lift your bicycle to move it around, do maintenance, or to simply show your friends how strong you are, the most common procedure is to lift your bike from the handlebars and the seat. The main issue with this is that electric bikes are usually heavier than most traditional bikes and lifting from the seat can cause the seat to be ripped off its bolts.
A more practical and safe way to lift your bike would be to grab it from the handlebars and the seat stays or the bridge of the seat stays. This will give you more grip and won't lead to a broken seat.
3. Sitting On Your Ebike While Propped On Kickstand
It's a very common mistake, on both ebikes and traditional bikes. Yes, there are some very strong kickstands that will support your bike and a person sitting on it as well. However, most kickstands are designed to only prop up your bike only. In the event that you need to sit on your bike while it's on the kickstand, be sure to lift the kickstand off the ground before putting your weight on the bike.
This will prevent your kickstand from breaking, bending, breaking the bolts or even damaging the mounting bracket on the frame. Furthermore, it can prevent your bike from falling over or you falling over yourself.
4. Leaving Your Ebike Outside
Not just ebikes but all bikes are better left indoors. That's because of the metal components on the bicycles, they can form rust over time when exposed to different outdoor conditions. In addition, electric bikes have a battery, a motor and other electrical components that are not waterproof. A little bit of rain won't hurt, but being left in the rain for extended periods of time can damage the electrical components.
The other major reason to not leave your ebike outside is theft. If your bike is left outside, it has a higher chance of being stolen, or its components stolen.
5. Cleaning Your Ebike
You're going to have a ton of adventures on your new Big Cat Ebike, and exploring the great outdoors. We are sure of it. With all that exploring, comes alot of dirt, mud, and grime, and it will need to be cleaned. Sure, the most practical thing to do would be to hose it down right? not necessarily, because your ebike is equipped with electrical components, it would be more ideal to use a bike cleaning solution, water and soap mixed in a bottle or a degreaser.
Apply the cleaning solution to your bike and wipe down with a rag. For those tough muddy areas, be sure to spray water away from electrical components, and never directly onto the motor, battery, LCD display or controller.

Vincent Gebbia, the company’s CEO and Founder, wanted to help his mother to get more exercise and overcome a knee injury. Inspired by the e-bikes he’d seen during business trips to Asia, Gebbia went to work creating a pedal assist, electric powered bicycle to help his mother regain her confidence and freedom, and improve her level of physical activity and mobility.
Since then, Big Cat USA has rapidly grown into a premium electric bike company. The company’s e-bikes are ideal for all levels of riders and are available in a wide range of designs, colors, styles, and models. Our goal is to offer a Premium Electric Bike, without the Premium cost!
Big Cat designs its eBikes in Long Island, New York and Manufactures overseas in Asia. With the consumer in mind, Big Cat strives to provide premium components on its electric bicycles that are well known in the cycling industry and can be found on many other well-known brands around the world. With this article, we hope to provide a better look into "What Big Cat Ebikes are made of".

Frame:
Aluminum Alloy 6061 Frame.

Battery:
All-Big Cat Electric Bicycles come standard with 48V Lithium-ion battery pack configurations. Either 10Ah or more commonly a 12Ah configuration. The battery packs found on Big Cat eBikes are removable and can be charged on or off the bike. The removable pack allows riders to remove the battery when the bicycle is not in use, for example after you've reached your destination or during cold and rainy seasons in which you normally don't ride.
Your Battery pack will include a smart charger that stops charging once the battery is fully charged. This ensures that your battery isn't overcharged and would increase the life of the battery pack. To achieve a full charge, the average charge time can be between 3-5 hours depending on charge level prior to charging. For an additional cost, a fast charger can be purchased.
Your battery pack will also come standard with a 1-year manufacturer warranty that protects from any factory defects. Please keep in mind that opening your battery pack or tampering with your pack may void your warranty. Please consult with your local ebike expert or contact us at 631.285.2298 for any questions about your Ebike battery.

Motor:
All-Big Cat Electric Bicycles are equipped with a Bafang BF RMG06 500-Watt geared rear hub motor. This motor is capable of reaching speeds of up to 20mph or more depending on riding conditions. The Bafang 8Fun BF RMG06 is a premium offering that is found on many electric bicycles in the market today.
It is best known for its performance and reliability. Bafang is a well-known company in the electric vehicle market and has its roots in the Electric Bike market since the early 2000s. Producing various products from hub motors, mid-drive motors, LCD displays, batteries, and sensors Bafang is a key player in the ebike world.

Drivetrain:
7 or 6 speed Shimano Derailleurs can be found on all Big Cat Models. The Derailleur, or drivetrain set up allows riders to tackle various terrains with ease, allowing for a more pleasurable riding experience.
Shimano was founded in 1921 in Japan and is a multinational company that specializes in bicycle components, snowboarding equipment, fishing tackle, golf equipment and much more. Shimano is responsible for producing roughly 50% of the worlds bicycle components. Best known for its performance, reliability, and quality.

Brakes:
If you're on an eBike, chances are you're going to be riding a whole lot faster, getting to your destination faster, going up and down hills, exploring a lot more. However, you'll eventually have to "stop!". Big Cat eBikes come standard with 180mm Mechanical disc brakes. A better option over the more traditional V-brake configuration.
V-Brakes are rubber stops that, when engaged apply pressure to the wheel to bring you to a stop. Mechanical disc brakes are mounted to the hub of the wheel and are very similar to the disc brakes on your car. They have brake pads, calipers, disc, brake lines, etc... They provide greater stopping power and increase safety. Tektro, a company that was founded in 1986 is a well-recognized brand that has been producing high-quality braking systems that increase both performance and safety. Standard on all Big Cat Ebikes.

Utility:
The idea of simply riding your bike is wonderful, and we love to do that as well. However, we feel that it is equally important to be able to utilize your bicycle to its full potential. Which is why some Big Cat models are equipped with Removable pannier racks, and mounted front baskets.
Riders will be able to enjoy the great outdoors with their furry little friends riding in the front basket, having extra cargo space to haul beach gear, mount up camping gear for the hunting trip, or strap on a surfboard to catch some waves. Whatever your next adventure may be, be sure to check out our Accessories store to find what you need to enjoy the outdoors more.

Wheels:
Sizes may vary between models. Depending on your riding style, Big Cat has the perfect ebike for you. Sizes vary between 20"-26"s wheels.

Tires:

Tires on Big Cat Ebikes may vary between Kenda or the more popular Chaoyang brand. The Chaoyang brand has its roots in the tire industry in China since 1958. Now owned by the parent company ZC Rubber, Chaoyang entered the global bicycle market in early 2000. Since then Chaoyang has offered a line of premium tires that range from a variety of different applications such as motorcycles, automobiles, light trucks, trucks, ATV, and trailers. In 2017 Chaoyang became one of the top 10 tire manufacturers in the world and is a key player in the Asian market.

5 Reasons you should wear a helmet while riding your ebike or bicycle in 2019

News
<sr:tags></sr:tags>
Carlos G

<sr:image>https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0978/3806/articles/71xKGm3kyGL._SX425.jpg?v=1547703047</sr:image>

The electric vehicle industry is exploding around the world! Across the entire industry consumers are getting greater access to not only electric cars, but electric scooters, skateboards, electric bikes, and many more modes of transportation. And, with that growth and new technology more and more people are using alternate means of transportation which means more people will eventually be by your side during your daily commute on those bike lanes or roads. Take these top reasons for wearing a helmet into consideration the next time you get on your bike and save yourself "a headache". 1. SafetyAlong with the introduction of "Auto-piloted" and "driver-less" cars, the cycling industry has seen growth in the electric bike market. Electric bikes, in comparison to traditional bikes, generally help riders reach and maintain higher speeds. Couple that with the booming electric scooter share programs across major cities around the world and you have a recipe for disaster when taking into account that there will always be at least one reckless rider or driver around you. The best thing any rider can do is put on a helmet when he or she is riding in high traffic areas. A Helmet, although not the most fashionable thing to wear, will protect riders from serious brain, head or face injuries. Possibly even death. The added benefit is, if you can save your head, face or brain from any injuries, then you will most likely not need to be rushed to an emergency room, saving you hundreds, if not thousands of dollars. 2. Become more visible to drivers Because drivers are already distracted by too many things, it is ideal for cyclists to take extra precautionary measures to become more visible to drivers around them. If a driver can see you from further away, it increases the chances for that driver to avoid collision with you and to stay alert when approaching or passing. Wearing a bright color helmet, or adding reflective tape to the front, back, and sides of the helmet is a great way to become more visible. Adding a reflective or strobe light is a great idea too. 3. It's the Law 🤷🏽‍♂️Check with your state and local governments for state and locals laws regarding cycling and helmets. Most states require anyone under the age of 14 to wear a helmet while operating a bicycle. Many cities, parks and other public places will require anyone of any age to wear a helmet. Riders who do not obey the law can face small to very steep fines. 4. Setting an example for the children Not only is it a good idea for your own personal safety to wear a helmet. But, you'll also encourage the children of the world to take their own safety seriously. Together we can all help save lives and avoid injuries. 5. Improve your own visibility Depending on the type of helmet you purchase, your helmet may include a visor. If a visor is not included, one can be added. This can aid in your travels as it will keep the sun out of your eyes, and rain away from your face. Some riders also add lights to their helmets as a supplement to any lights they may already have to see better at night.Bonus If you're worried about the fashion side of things, that's okay. We often worry about how silly we may look with a helmet on. However, that doesn't always have to to be the case. Get creative and customize your helmet with fun bright colors, art, stickers and even a mohawk!

This program is not Uber’s introduction to the electric vehicle market in Atlanta, as it already has rolled out a fleet of electric scooters that compete with companies like Lime, Lyft, and Byrd.
This will add to the already growing electric vehicle market not only in Atlanta, but in major cities around the United States, and the world. As more and more companies enter the Electric vehicle market, state and local governments are creating new infrastructure, laws and regulations to safely govern riders, pedestrians and drivers alike.
Not only will this benefit the commercial electric vehicle market, but this also means that the laws, regulations and better infrastructure directly benefit the electric bicycle market on a consumer level. Meaning you as an electric bike owner, future or present, will eventually have more access to safer bicycle lanes.
Hurry! from now until Jan 27th customers can ride for free for 15min, and regular pricing will be $1 to start and .10$ a minute thereafter. Special pricing packages will be available as well. It's been a couple years. I waited almost a year by the way for my bike to show up but it was worth it! What I wanted to say was some people think it's cheating to have an e-bike and I think it's terrible that people think that.
It's not that I'm not doing anything, I'm still pedaling it's just when it gets a difficult it's like my bike can sense it and it kicks in and gives me assistance and the throttle is really nice too so when I'm ready to go forward from a stop I get that little kick start especially when you're at a stop light and there's traffic you need to hurry up and cross the street.
When it's clear, with the throttle, there's no dilly dally and sometimes if I'm going up a steep incline and my assistance just isn't enough and it's obvious that I'm not going to make it then I'll use the throttle just to get me that little umph to get up the hill but I still pedal!!
It's still a workout for me it just enables me to be able to ride bike with my very athletic mountain biker boyfriend LOL 💕I have multiple sclerosis and a total hip replacement. It truly has given back a part of my life that I thought I had lost so it's not a cushy ride with no effort, it's still a effort, just with a little help😁 I love my bike!!!! ❤ Just wanted you to know and to say thanks again, Jan Smith"

It's something we've heard all across the U.S during big events, small local events, at our Big Cat stores and all over the internet. It's ok though, we understand why so many people would think just that. After all, Bicycles, aside from being a great mode of transportation, offer many health benefits.
Primarily providing an increase in cardiovascular fitness. Furthermore, riders can see a great reduction in stress levels, reduced body fat, increase in strength, joint mobility, and improved posture. The idea of having an electric motor to assist you should be enough to raise red flags and tell you that you will not benefit at all when it comes to your health because "you're not doing anything".
It's true, E-bikes give riders the option to simply twist a throttle and ride for miles without having to pedal at all. But, that's not the case for all of our riders. That is simply an option that you'll have so that you can use it whenever you WANT it, or more importantly whenever you NEED it!
To overcome this misconception of laziness and electric bicycles, it's important to understand why some people would NEED the assistance of an electric motor in the first place. To give a better example we will introduce a rider who has shared his story with us within the last couple of months. This rider was selected at random from a group of over 30 Big Cat owners who submitted their feedback to our team.
Alfredo H. from San Francisco, CA
Alfredo H. is a 52-year-old male from San Francisco, California. He was Diagnosed with Diabetes in early 2015. Since he was diagnosed he made his health his #1 priority and promised his family he would change his lifestyle and build better eating habits as well as becoming more physically active. "I wanted to be able to play with my grandkids, but it become more and more difficult for me".
"As I started my journey to a better lifestyle i struggled alot. I did not have energy, i didn't have motivation at times. I feel like I was never going to get better". Alfredo tried new things such as dance classes, tennis, and even kickboxing. However, he wasn't happy with these new activities because he did not find them interesting after a while.
For Christmas of 2015, Alfredo received a large package at his doorsteps. It was a gift from his daughter and son in law. Alfredo received a Long Beach Cruiser, White in color with black wheels and whitewall tires. He loved it! But he immediately went against it once he found out it was electric. "Whats the point?" Alfredo asked his daughter "i need a regular bike, not this thing". "Just go for a ride on it pop, you'll love it, I promise," said Lidia, Alfredo's daughter.
"The bike sat in my garage for 2 weeks before i even ride it. I told my wife i would rather go to the gym than to ride that thing. I felt bad because my daughter and son in law spend money on it. I lied to them and told them I was using it. I did not see the need for it, not if it wasnt going to give me exercise".
That was until Ricardo, Alfredo's son in law stopped by one day to drop off a few things and noticed the battery was still in its packaging, in the same spot he left it from when he had assembled it. Ricardo unboxed the battery, placed it on the bike and called Alfredo to watch how the bike works. After a few minutes of a quick walkthrough, Alfredo agreed to take it around the block for a spin. "I went to the end of the street and on level 1, it felt nice so I made a turn and went to the next corner but this time i went up to level 9 on the assist. The bike took off! next thing i know im doing 17mph. It was scary, but fun. so as i am going back to my house I did not stop, I passed my son in law and keep going, I wanted to go 2 more blocks".
At one point he reached, what he described as a "very steep hill". He stopped and said to himself that he's too old to make it up that kind of hill and that he would probably have a heart attack if he tried. He remembered his son in law explaining some of the different ways he can benefit from the bike and going uphill was one of them. After a small debate with himself, Alfredo decided to give the hill a try.
"At first the climb was slow because I was on the lowest gear I had to pedal a lot but I was moving, i was climbing and then i made it to the top. That's when i realized how great this bike really was".
Fast forward to 2018 Alfredo has expressed his love for ebikes, claiming that he has joined a small ebike community on Facebook and regularly rides with a few members of the group a few times a month. He has lost over 35lbs since he started riding electric bikes, is more physically active and has maintained healthy eating habits.
"This ebike has helped me by helping me enjoy something that i can do while getting an exercise, I can go uphill with no problem, i can ride my bike for 20 miles with no problem, biking is good for everyone, im glad that ebikes are around because not everyone can ride a regular bike for very long, it makes you tired, its hard sometimes. But my Big Cat bike makes it easier!"
Circling back to the original question, “are electric bicycles for lazy people?” Well we certainly think not, neither does Mr. Alfredo. Ebikes present an opportunity for various types of riders who are seeking assistance because of a medical condition, an injury that impedes their ability to ride a regular bicycle or because they want to get in shape and need that extra push to keep them active for longer periods.
Of course there's also the opportunity for leisure, some people just want to have fun, sit back and relax while cruising at 20mph on a warm summer day. So what do you think?

Summer is finally here and while most of you have already started riding your ebikes, some of you have yet to get started. To make any bike ride a comfortable and safe ride we want to give you a few tips that you can use to ensure your bicycle is ready for this biking season. Because Big Cat ebikes operate just like traditional bikes these tips will come in handy and can be used with regular bikes as well.
1. Adjust your Seat/Seatpost
Make sure your seat is set to a comfortable riding level. Always make sure that your seat post does not pass the safety level that is marked on the seat post. A loose seat or a seat that is set to an unsafe level can snap off, or fall off during your ride, which in turn can knock you off your ebike. If the seat cannot be adjusted to a high enough level for your height, check with your local bike shop to find a long seat post that can be swapped for added safety and comfort.
2. Adjust your handlebars
Like other components on your Big Cat electric bike or regular bike, your handlebars may be adjustable. Once you've properly adjusted your seat to a comfortable and safe level, sit on the ebike and adjust the height and position of the handlebars to your liking. Do not adjust the handlebars in a position where they will be too close to your knees.
3. Check your chain
Apply tension to the top of the chain by using your fingers. Your chain should not move more than 1/2". If it does it will need to be tightened. Because your ebike has a rear hub motor we recommend having your chain tightened by a professional. wash and dry thoroughly, before applying a dry lubricant. Avoid using WD-40!
4. Check Tire Pressure
Tire pressure will vary between different tire sizes and riding styles or conditions. Refer to your tire's sidewall for recommended pressure. Have a properly inflated tire will ensure safety and efficiency of your ebike.
5. Battery
Make sure your battery is fully charged before long rides. Check to make sure the battery is properly locked in place. Avoid riding in the rain for extended periods or taking your bike for a swim! Remember extreme hot and cold weather conditions will affect the performance of your battery and will affect range.
6. Check your brakes
If you're having trouble stopping, you hear loud squeaking sounds, or you have harsh vibration. It may be time to change your brake pads, you may have rust built up on the rotors or one of your rotors may be bent. We recommend having a professional tune your brakes for safety!
These are all tips that can ensure a much safer ride this biking season. However, it is highly recommended that you seek professional help from your favorite or local bike shop for the best results!

Big Cat Electric Bicycles: How it started

News
<sr:tags></sr:tags>
Carlos G

<sr:image>https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0978/3806/articles/Screen_Shot_2018-06-03_at_12.51.35_PM.png?v=1528044744</sr:image>

The bicycle did appear to have several issues, however, upon close inspection, it appeared that the bicycle was used in extreme off-road conditions, which may have been the main cause of all the issues Mr. Ray was having.
Big Cat did its part in honoring the warranty, and going to extra mile to fix the bicycle, ship new components, pay for shipping, pay for labor, and even offer a new bicycle to the plaintiff prior to the suit being made. The plaintiff refused to accept anything and once the suit was made, it made its way to The Peoples Court.
The verdict was in our favor as Mr. Ray failed to provide any sufficient evidence that showed that Big Cat failed to honor its warranty, fix the bicycle, provide replacement parts, and a written warranty. After the show, Vice President of Big Cat USA, David Santos offered a brand new Alley Cat (Hampton folding bike) to Mr. Ray to compensate for his time lost, frustration, travel expenses, and overall experience with our brand. The offer was made to show Mr.Ray that Big Cat did everything it could in its ability to keep Mr. Ray and our customers happy.
We do not wish to shame anyone or give anyone a hard time. We pride ourselves in giving every customer attention to his or her needs and provide excellent customer service anytime!

Video sent in by Robert Robinson in the New England Area. Robert recently submitted a video showing an in depth review of both his and his wife's Big Cat Ebikes. One of them being the 2017 Big Cat Fat Cat XL 500, electric fat bike, and the other being a 2017 Big Cat Long Beach Cruiser XL 500, electric beach cruiser fat bike.
Robert created a new video where he wanted to demonstrate the range of his Big Cat Fat Cat XL 500, on a full charge, and only using the throttle. He was able to get a little over 13 miles given the conditions he was riding in.
To watch the full 47 minute video scroll to the bottom.

Not all riders will experience the same range with their Big Cat Ebikes. There are many factors that can either positively or negatively affect the performance of your battery pack. some of the factors may include but are not limited to:

Weather conditions
Terrain (Uphill, downhill, flat etc...)
Function Use (Pedal Assist, Throttle, Combination of PAS + Throttle)
Rider Settings (Choosing between 1-9 different levels of pedal assist)
Rider Weight

Our top recommendation is the 2017 Big Cat Long Beach Cruiser 350!

In addition, the Long beach Cruiser 350 offers an easy to use LCD display/controller which gives riders the ability to unlock the full potential of this ebike. Choose between 1-9 different levels of pedal assist. Level 1 offering the least amount of assistance from the motor, and level 9 offering the most assistance, ideal for riding uphill without breaking a sweat! However, under federal law, if the electric bike is over 750 watts or goes over 20 mph it will need to be registered with your local department of motor vehicles. Most ebikes these days are kept under 750 watts and are capped at a 20mph speed limit, therefore, they are safe to ride with no need to register with the DMV or require a special license. So you can rest assure that your purchase won't require any extra paperwork or hassle.

Big Cat electric bicycles have electric components such as batteries, wiring, and motors but they also have many components that are identical to those of traditional bikes.
Before getting back on the road make sure you have your tire pressure checked, tires, handle bars, seat post, suspension fork and many more components to ensure safe riding this season. For a list of electric bike shops that sell and service our products be sure to see a list here:

That means more riders will be on the road, including yourself. As a precaution, we highly recommend that you check your brake pads before getting on the road again. All-Big Cat electric bicycles come standard with a Mechanical disc brake system, and like all cars on the road, they require that you change the brake pads.
A mechanical disc brake system is operated by cables, a caliper, a disc brake, and a ceramic brake pad. Very similar to a brake system that is found on cars. There are other braking systems such as the V-brake which uses rubber stops, and a hydraulic system that uses fluid to apply pressure to the caliper and engage the brakes.
The mechanical disc brake system is seen to be more reliable in the fact that it is more serviceable in the event of a breakdown. Whereas hydraulic systems may experience cuts or holes in the tubes that can cause leaks in the system. However, Hydraulic systems are more powerful and provide greater stopping power over mechanical and V-brake setups.
But don't let that discourage you. Mechanical disc brake set ups still provide sufficient stopping power. Also, brake pads do not need to be replaced all the time. It all depends on your usage but considering that ebikes give you the ability to ride longer distances we highly recommend visiting your local bike shop professional to check your brake pads on your electric bike before you get back on the road!

Racks & Pannier Bags

News
<sr:tags></sr:tags>
Carlos G

<sr:image>https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0978/3806/articles/Screen_Shot_2016-10-21_at_5.09.03_PM.png?v=1488252245</sr:image>
What are Pannier racks and bags? How are they beneficial to bike riders? where can I buy one?
Pannier bags are containers, bags, or baskets that mount onto pannier racks. They are extremely beneficial for riders who are seeking to get a bit more utility from their bicycle and have a need for hauling around extra gear, groceries, tools etc... There are a range of different types of pannier racks and bags that are available to fit your needs and budget.
Fortunately, most Big Cat Electric Bicycles come standard with pannier racks bolted on and can be removed when needed. ebikes are a great mode of transportation for riders who need to go the extra mile, are faced with many hills in their regular routes, want to go faster, looking to save money by using a car less, or for leisure. With that in mind many riders find themselves using electric bikes more than a traditional bike. The result is that ebike riders want to get the most out of their electric bikes and cargo is definitely a concern for most.
Most electric bikes for sale do not offer baskets, racks, or large cargo trunks which reduces the ability for riders to haul things around. The good thing is that finding the right pannier bag and rack is reasonably easy. It pretty much all depends on how much cargo space you're going to utilize. For a listing of the aftermarket pannier rack and accessories that Bigcatbikes.com offers that works with Big Cat ebikes click here

The rise in air pollution has pushed the government's initiative to improve the quality of life for its residents by offering a $1200 credit towards the purchase of a new e-bike. This credit came into play on February 1st, 2017.
However, the credit cannot be applied to just any electric bicycle. In particular, Oslo wants its residents to use this credit towards the purchase of an electric cargo bike. That is because a cargo bike will allow people to haul groceries, bags, children, and other personal items that they would normally depend on a car for. The hope is to have a population of 618,000 depend far less on vehicles while not sacrificing utility.
Oslo has temporarily banned diesel vehicles and plans to ban vehicles from the city center by 2019. Other efforts include a pledge to be carbon neutral by 2030. Norway has set aside a budget of $1 Billion dollars for bike related infrastructure which will include the construction of new bike paths, bike lanes, more electric bikes, and to do away with unnecessary equipment like bike elevators.
The average cost of an electric bike in Norway costs between $2,500 - $6,400 giving residents the credit will allow them to save between 25% and 50% of the cost. However, the e bike credit is only available for up to 1,000 persons which won't necessarily make a huge impact on the region's air quality but is a great starting point for the nation to test out the impact within the city itself.

2017 Big Cat Long Beach Cruiser XL 500

News
<sr:tags></sr:tags>
Carlos G

<sr:image>https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0978/3806/articles/IMGP1317.JPG?v=1487655174</sr:image>
Our 2017 Long Beach Cruiser XL 500 electric fat bike is now in stock! We decided to give the ebike to a few people to test out for a few weeks and get their honest opinion on the overall performance, utility, and versatility of this bicycle. Our volunteer for this review was a 43-year-old male that stands at 6'2" in height and weighs in at around 250lbs. The bicycle was sent down to Atlanta where Brian resides and works as an insurance broker. Brian had the bicycle for a total of 3 weeks, which gave him plenty of time to take the bicycle out on the weekends, and during the evening on weekdays. For the sake of this review, we sent the bicycle unassembled and gave little to no instructions about the electric bike. Shortly after receiving the bike back at our New York warehouse we conducted an email interview with brian about his Big Cat Electric Bike experience and get his overall thoughts on paper.
Delivery/Packaging:
Q: Describe the delivery experience and/or the packaging of the bicycle. Was it easy to haul around, or did you experience any difficulties? A: The ebike was dropped off by FedEx sometime around noon. My wife tried to move the box but did not want to damage anything so she did not attempt to move it very far. Personally, for me, it wasn't much of an issue. It was a bit heavier than I expected but its understandable.
Assembly:
Q: How was the assembly process? A: The instruction manual was sent to me via email by your service department. I honestly had no clue what I was getting myself into since I didn't receive any sort of information prior to delivery. I thought it would be more challenging but the bicycle comes about 85% assembled so all I really had to do was mount the front tire, handle bar, Basket, and get some air in the tires. Although I read in the manual that it is highly suggested that the electric bike is assembled by a professional so I called a buddy of mine who is an avid mountain biker to come and take a quick look at it before I take it out for a ride. He adjusted the brakes for me.
Function:
Q: Did you find it easy to navigate and operate the Bafang C961 Display/Controller? Did it enhance your ebike riding experience? A: It was a bit weird at first but the instruction manual cleared that up for me. I was able to set the highest speed and select the highest level of pedal assist which was a great way to get top speed. Its a ton of fun. However, I realized it drains the battery pretty quick if all I'm doing is using the throttle. The read out is pretty clear and gives a good amount of information, and I love that it has the backlit display so it is easy to see at night. I would say in total it took me about 30min to 1 hour to really get the hang out all the functions and how to browse through them.
Performance:
Q: How well did the Long Beach Cruiser XL 500 perform? Did you take it out on different terrains or only on the street? A: The first week I only rode it around my neighborhood, and a little bit in my back yard. I have a small yard but it was only to test out on the grass. It handled pretty well on the grass and I was moving around with little to no effort at all on the grass, and at higher speeds than I normally would on a traditional bike. On the street it rides really well, I was able to get up to 23Mph with pedaling and engaging the throttle. It feels so much faster haha. It's a big rush. The only thing I wasn't too crazy about were the tires. I would love to ride it on the street with a smoother tread tire but it's understandable that this is an all terrain bike. It has plenty of torque that got me up some small hills with no effort, on the larger hills I had to pedal but I was able to make it up the hills regardless. On a regular bike, I would have had to gotten off the bike to climb the hill. During the second week, we took the bike out to some fields that have a lot of hills and dirt trails. It performs really well offroad, and the clay sometimes it slows you down but its still manageable. I would highly recommend getting fenders because we got really dirty. I was happy with the performance and impressed with it, a suspension upgrade might be the cherry on top, and the fenders too.
Range:
Q: Were you able to test out the range on a full battery? A: Yes! I made sure that I charged the battery and took it out for a ride to see how far I can go before I needed to recharge or swap it out for the extra one I had. I was able to get 13 miles riding on all throttle. On the second battery, i switched down to a lower speed limit, level 2 pedal assist and I shut off power to the throttle. I was able to get roughly 22 miles. This was on the Silver comet trail in Smyrna which runs over 60 miles to Alabama. We loved the ride so much that the next day my wife tested the bike out on a full charge and she was able to get 26 miles on a single charge, level 2 pedal assist and no throttle, with a bit of hills. She is much smaller than I am with an 110lb weight difference. I assume that was the main reason she got a better range than I did haha.

Utility:
Q: Did you find any use of the Basket and Pannier rack? A: The pannier rack no, only because I did not have a pannier bag. But I saw a few bags online that would have made it so much better for me to haul things around. The basket I did use a lot, to haul all sorts of things. The pannier bags are on my list of things to buy in the future when I purchase my own Big Cat Bike.

Versatility:
Q: Did you find the Long Beach Cruiser XL 500 to be versatile? A: well, being that it's an all terrain vehicle it did perform really well in almost any terrain that I tested it on. I really can't complain about the performance of it and where I was able to ride it. I think the biggest thing to keep in mind is that it is not a traditional bike. Although you can still operate it like one, there is more that needs to be considered when you're with the LBC XL 500. For example, it is larger than a traditional bike, the frame is larger, the wheels are bigger, and it is a bit heavier too. I had a bit of a tough time getting the bike indoors because the handle bars are a bit larger than normal bikes. Transporting the bicycle requires special ebike racks. Because its heavier I did not want to risk carrying it on my regular bike rack and have it fall off driving on 285. I have a 2015 Honda CRV, with the seats down it has about 70 cubic inches of cargo. I was able to squeeze the bike back there and haul it around that way. The bike can be ridden like a traditional bike when the battery dies, which is cool because if you don't have a charger with you or you're away from home you can still make it to your destination.

Can I Ride My Electric Bike In the Snow?

News
<sr:tags>bicycle, bigcat, bike, ebike, electric fat bike, electricbike, fat bike, news</sr:tags>
Carlos G

<sr:image>https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0978/3806/articles/IMGP1707.JPG?v=1487655401</sr:image>
Although it's not winter just yet, many parts of North America are already experiencing signs of cold weather, freezing rain, and snow! It comes as a surprise to many living in North America because in 2015 it was pretty warm this time of year. I remember spending my Christmas in New York on the balcony of my cousin's house, having a barbecue. I was wearing pants and a t-shirt. Snow did not make its way until after Christmas. It was actually quite scary for me because it was the first time I have ever experienced something like that.
However, the point is that it's technically not winter and there are already signs that this winter could be a bit brutal, or come earlier than we anticipated. If you're like me who rides a bicycle most of the year, you're probably worried about the cold weather. If you just purchased a Big Cat Electric Bike, you're probably worried about its functionality as well. This post is intended to give you a bit of reassurance and to give you some tips for riding in the cold weather.
1. Does My Big Cat E-Bike Work In The Snow?
Yes, It does. However, if you're riding in temperatures below 40 degrees Fahrenheit you will experience a lower performance from your battery. Avoid leaving your bicycle outdoors in extreme weather conditions like rain, freezing rain, snow, hail, temperatures below 30 degrees. If you are going to leave it our doors make sure you take the battery inside with you to store at room temperature and make sure your port is covered on the bicycle (the port connector that connects when the battery slides into place on the bicycle).
2. Protective Gear
When riding in extreme weather conditions always take precautions with safety. Make sure you have bright colors with reflective tape at all times, and warm clothing. During the winter drivers have decreased visibility depending on conditions, you will want to make sure you are visible even during the day time. The warm clothing will make sure you do not get frostbite, or enhance your chances of getting ill. In addition, in the events of an unfortunate breakdown, for example, a flat tire you'll want to make sure you are staying warm if that causes a delay and extends your time outdoors.
Invest in Bar Mitts!
3. Tools
Unfortunately, bad things can happen while you're riding. A flat tire, a broken pedal, or a snapped chain are all problems I am too familiar with. The best thing to do is to make sure you have the right tools with you before you leave your home and that they are with you at all times. Being caught in the rain, or snow on a flat tire with no tube or tools for a quick fix really sucks.
4. Tire Pressure
For the best riding experience use this guide to adjust your pressure to your terrain.
Soft Conditions: 8PSI
Trails, Dirt: 12-15PSI
On road or urban riding: 20-25PSI
BEWARE BLACK ICE!

Electric Bike Don'ts

News
<sr:tags>bicycle, bigcat, bike, ebike, electric fat bike, electricbike</sr:tags>
Carlos G

<sr:image>https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0978/3806/articles/IMGP6879_copy.JPG?v=1487685905</sr:image>
Lately, we have been hearing a lot of stories from customers or friends of customers who have been doing some things on their electric bikes that they shouldn't be doing. We decided to make a small list of things you shouldn't do on your Big Cat Electric bike!

Don't sit on the bike while it's on the kickstand:

The kick stand on your bicycle is designed to hold the bicycle upright and keep it from falling. Chances are, and we know this for a fact that most kickstands (unless you have a heavy duty one) will not withstand the weight of the bicycle as well as yours at the same time. This could lead to a bent kickstand, a broken kickstand, and the kickstand will not be able to hold the bike up any longer and cause your bike to fall over. Thus scratching or denting the e bike.

2. Don't leave your keys on your battery:
If you're out and about in public and you have to lock up your bike don't leave your keys on the bike. Some of our electric bikes come with keys to unlock the battery. Often in times the keys need to be in the battery in order for the electric bike to operate. In Other cases, riders will leave the keys on just for convenience. However, if you leave your keys on the battery and leave the bike unattended, chances are the battery will get stolen. If they can't steal the bike but they could steal the battery you're at a big loss either way because batteries can go upwards of $289.00.
3. Don't store your bike outdoors:
Storing your bike outdoors is never a good thing. There are a lot of metal components that if exposed to extreme weather conditions can begin to oxidate. Batteries can be damaged.
4. Don't overcharge your battery:
Although the chargers we provide and most manufacturers of products that contain lithium ion batteries are smart charges which stop charging after the battery is full. It's never a good idea to leave the battery on the charger for longer than specified in your owners manual. Big Cat ® Electric Bicycles recommend no more than 6 hours
5. Don't do stunts on your electric bike:
Unless you're riding a bicycle that is designed specifically for extreme off-road conditions and stunts, we highly recommend not to perform any major jumps or stunts on your Big Cat ® electric bike. This can cause the wheels to bend, the fork to bend, tires to explode or even cause injuries.

Electric bikes sold at a rate 70 times higher than electric cars in 2015

News
<sr:tags>bigcat, ebike, electric fat bike, fat bike</sr:tags>
Carlos G

<sr:image>https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0978/3806/articles/Business-Growth-Drawing-Chart-Performance-700x450.jpg?v=1487723792</sr:image>
There were an estimated 500,000 electric cars sold in the year of 2015. Within that same period, an estimated 35,000,000 electric bikes were sold. Yes, that is 6 zeros, which makes that 35 Million units. That number represents all the electric bicycles sold on a global scale which also shows that the number of e-bikes sold was 70 times higher than that of electric bikes. This report was conducted by Electric Bike World Report.
The authors of the report state that there are an estimated 200 million electric bikes on the road today. That number can jump to 2 billion by 2050. Interestingly enough the report always states that the off-road segment is that fastest growing segment in the electric bicycle industry. That accounts for bicycles such as electric fat tire bikes like the Big Cat Fat Cat XL.

LSPD: This option controls the top speed of your Fat Cat XL. The default setting is 32kmh (20mph), which is also the legal limit under federal regulations. The unit allows the user to go up to 50kmh (31mph). Although there would not be much of a difference in speed because of additional restrictions from the computer, you may see an increase of 2-5mph. We highly recommend staying within the legal limit. If you do decide to change the settings, proceed with caution. To make this change, simply press "+" or "-" and then hit the power button to save and continue to next option.

BLT: Backlight. This option allows the user to select the intensity of the Backlight on the display unit. If you have sensitive eyes and want to avoid distractions in night time riding we recommend a lower brightness, Otherwise you can set it to the highest setting for optimal views of the display at night or in lower light. To make this change, simply press "+" or "-" and then hit the power button to save and continue to next option.

TIME: This one is pretty self-explanatory. However the clock is on a 24H format, so if you're trying to figure out what time 18:30 is? just subtract "12". Ex. 18:30 - 12 = 6:30. To make this change, simply press "+" or "-" and then hit the power button to save and continue to next option.

ADVANCED SETTINGS:
To enter the advanced settings, hold both the +/- at the same time for a couple of seconds until the menu changes. Once the menu changes WHILE STILL HOLDING the +/- , press the power button 8 (eight) times. Once the menu changes you'll see the following:

WHEEL SIZE: The factory wheel size and default setting on your Fat Cat XL is 26in. If you select a different size, you'll experience readings on your display that are not accurate. Only change this option if you change the wheel size yourself. However keep in mind that changing to another wheel size may void your warranty. To make this change, simply press "+" or "-" and then hit the power button to save and continue to next option.

OFT: This option is very helpful. The user will have an option of choosing between 0-60, which is measured in minutes. What this does is that after reaching the time you have selected, the unit will automatically power off, after inactivity. So if you choose 5 (5min), after 5 minutes of inactivity the unit will power off alone. Simply put, It's a power save mode. To make this change, simply press "+" or "-" and then hit the power button to save and continue to next option.

DH: This is the Pedal Assist option. Default settings will be set at 5 for optimal performance and maximum distance per charge. If you decide to make changes to this option please keep in mind you may experience less range per charge. The user will have options between 2-9. Selecting the maximum of 9 levels will break up the assistance and distribute it evenly in 9 increments or levels. The higher you go, the more assistance you get. When switching to a higher assistance level you'll experience higher speeds as well. To make this change, simply press "+" or "-" and then hit the power button to save and continue to next option.

OPERATING CONDITIONS:
The Bafang C961 is designed to operate best when kept in weather conditions that do not exceed the following: -20c - 60c ( -4F - 140F ) Celsius/Fahrenheit.
WALK ASSIST:
Walk assist? What? yes, it's a thing. The way it works is, Hold down the "-" for a couple of seconds, and the motor will engage and give you an extra push. Be extra careful when using this feature! the bicycle will immediately lunge forward at 6kmh (3.7mph). I find that this feature is more ideal when walking up a hill if you decide that you rather not ride up the hill.
PEDAL ASSIST:
When the pedal assist is on "0" there will be no assistance from either the throttle or the motor.
TRIP/ TRIP RESET:
When you're in the regular display mode, you can toggle through trip distance and total distance by pressing the power button once. If you wish to reset the Trip distance simply hold the power button and the "-" until it resets to 0.

FAT BIKES

Since the arrival of our Big cat ® Fat Cat - Electric Fat Bikes, we have been receiving a great number of emails and photos from our customers about how happy they are about riding these fat bikes around various parts of the united states, from dirt trails, beaches, snow or down the street, we are just as excited as you all are to be a part of this growing trend.
fat Bikes have been gaining so much traction (Pun intended) over the past couple of years and it seems that the trend will not cease anytime soon. So after gathering a few helpful tips from some reliable sources, here are some quick tips to keep in mind when you're out and about in your new Big Cat ® Fat Cat, or any Fat bike for that matter.
THE BASICS:

Helmet, if you do not have one... Buy one. While riding a Fat Bike you'll feel more opt to ride on some rough terrain. Even the most experienced riders have accidents, do yourself a favor and wear a helmet for your safety.

Dress Appropriately, If you're out during the winter time be sure to wear layers, keep a pack of foot and hand warmers just in case. wear gloves and an extra pair of socks. Carry extra items in case you get wet or need to stop and recover if you're taking long trips. WEAR REFLECTIVE GEAR DURING NIGHT TIME RIDING.

Tools, be sure to carry tire tubes, air pump and proper tools needed for quick maintenance on your bike, the last thing you want is to be stranded on some trails, on the beach or in the snow with no tools for a quick fix. Be sure to have flashlights on the bicycle so pedestrians and vehicles can see you

Laws, always obey your state and locals laws when riding on public roads, parks, and trails

Extreme riding, always be sure to consult the manufacturer of your product to make sure your bicycle is designed to handle extreme riding conditions, such as jumps or stunts.

TIPS FOR RIDING ON SAND/ BEACHES:

Normally Fat Bikes have a tire width of 3-5 inches

Try to maintain a tire pressure of about 6-10 psi

Wear goggles, if your Fat Bike does not have fenders, you'll want to avoid getting sand in your eyes.
Never ride in crowded areas

DO NOT TAKE YOUR E-BIKE FOR A SWIM.... stay away from the water, although the Big Cat ® Fat Cat has waterproof components, we highly recommend to avoid getting your electric bike unit wet. This will prevent any electrical issues and avoid oxidation on some of your components

Wear Sunglasses, if you don't have goggles, wear sunglasses, this will also improve your visibility and decrease your chances of causing an accident.

Wear Sunglasses, if you don't have goggles, wear sunglasses, this will also improve your visibility and decrease your chances of causing an accident. Polarized Glasses work best!
Dress Appropriately, If you're out during the winter time be sure to wear layers, keep a pack of foot and hand warmers just in case. wear gloves and extra pair of socks. Carry extra items in case you get wet or need to stop and recover if you're taking long trips. WEAR REFLECTIVE GEAR DURING NIGHT TIME RIDING.
Use tire chains to increase your traction on ice

never make sharp turns, making sharp turns can cause you to lose control on snow and ice, take your time and make slow, steady turns

TIPS FOR RIDING ON DIRT TRAILS:

Extreme riding, always be sure to consult the manufacturer of your product to make sure your bicycle is designed to handle extreme riding conditions, such as jumps or stunts.

Respect the wildlife around you, never do anything that will destroy the natural habitats of the animals that may live near the trails you're riding on

Reduce speed and observe your surroundings, a lot of dirt bike trails are surrounded by trees, if you lose control, the last thing you want is a head-on collision with a tree.
Wear goggles, if your Fat Bike does not have fenders, you'll want to avoid getting dirt in your eyes.

wear reflective gear and use strobe or regular lights on your bike to warn other riders of your presence. At time dirt trails can be darker because of the trees blocking the sun.
