AT&T will begin selling the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 Android 4.1 Jelly Bean tablet for $399.99 with a two-year agreement on June 21. Those of you willing to bundle the mid-sized tablet with a Samsung Galaxy S4, Galaxy S4 Active or Galaxy Note II will receive it at a discounted price of just $199.99. The Galaxy Note 8 features an 8-inch WXGA 1280×800 display, Exynos 1.6GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage expandable through a microSD card, a 5 megapixel rear camera, 1.3MP front-facing camera, WiFi/4G LTE connectivity and a 4600mAh battery. As you can see, it has very similar specs to the Galaxy Note 2 smartphone and Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet, with a display size somewhere in the middle of those devices, of course. The Samsung Premiere 2013 press conference is just two days away, so the Korean handset-maker is keen to remind the public that it will be live streamed for all on YouTube. The event, which will begin at 7PM BST on June 20th, will focus on Samsung’s Galaxy and Ativ brands.

The Android-powered Galaxy S4 Active, Galaxy S4 Zoom and the Galaxy NX are expected to be in attendance. Hopefully, there will be a slew of Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 Ativ devices on hand as well.

Samsung Mobile co-chief J.K. Shin revealed plans to begin selling a version of the flagship Galaxy S4 Android smartphone with LTE-Advanced 4G in South Korea as early as next month. The handset-maker is in negotiations to bring the device to several global carriers as well. The upgraded GS4 will be able to transmit data twice as fast as its predecessor. “We’ll be the first with the commercial launch of the advanced 4G version of the smartphone,” said Shin. Samsung confirmed that the newer device will also run on a Qualcomm chip, though it wasn’t immediately disclosed if it would be powered by Snapdragon 600 or 800. Expect the Galaxy S4 LTE-Advanced to be priced higher than the standard model.

Today, Skype introduced a new way to keep in touch with friends and family even when your schedules conflict. Skype Video Messaging has emerged out of preview status and is now available to all Skype users on Android, iOS, BlackBerry, PC and Mac. It enables users to record and share personal video messages (up to 3 minutes in length) for later viewing by friends and loved ones. The Moto X, an upcoming cross-carrier Android smartphone from Motorola, will be available some time this summer. Evleaks, the go-to source for details concerning unannounced handsets, claims to have the preliminary specifications for the X phone. It’s said to be designed with a Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon S4 Pro 1.7GHz dual-core processor, 720p HD display, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, a 10 megapixel rear shooter, 2MP front-facing camera and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. Those specs do not sound incredibly impressive by any stretch of the imagination, especially with the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4 already out, but Motorola insists there will be a couple features that will be quite unique to the Moto X. We know the device will boast battery-friendly features and it will be manufactured domestically in the United States. We’ll have to wait for future rumors/leaks or official word to find out more.

Gameloft continues to remind gamers that Asphalt 8: Airborne is coming to Android and iOS this summer. We’ve already seen the first screenshots and gameplay video (below), but now the publisher is just toying with us by posting official artwork (above). Of course, this could be a sign that Gameloft is gearing up to bring the game to Google Play and iTunes sooner rather than later.

For those who were caught up in all the PlayStation 4 / Xbox One excitement during E3 2013 and missed it, Gameloft revealed some details about the upcoming racer. Asphalt 8: Airborne runs on a brand new physics engine and it will cost just 99 cents. It features eight new maps, including the Nevada desert, London city streets, Tokyo, Iceland, and a revamped Monaco track from Asphalt 7: Heat. Expect all the usual weather elements, like rain, snow and dust, to be present. There will also be stunts, destructible objects, and lots of jumps. Multiplayer will consist of three very different modes: Takedown, Gate Drift and Infected. Check out the trailer below for a preview.

It’s said to combine the best features from Sportacular with more content, a faster experience and a complete redesign. Users can also login now to sync favorite teams across all devices. Sony will be hosting a special mobile event in France on July 4th. Upon inspecting the invitation for the presser, it seems Sony could be preparing to unveil the super-sized version of the Xperia Z, called the Xperia Z Ultra. The translated text on the invite reads, “Sony Mobile has a big surprise for you” and “don’t forget to mark your calendars!” The word “big” clearly referencing the large device that’s pictured on the invite. Also, a stylus is teased, so it’s possible this Android-powered phablet will sport something similar to Samsung’s S Pen for the Galaxy Note II. The Xperia ZU purportedly features an enormous 6.4-inch 1080p Full HD display, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 2.2GHz quad-core processor with Adreno 330 GPU, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage with microSD card expansion, an 8 megapixel rear camera and a 2.2MP front-facing camera. The screen supposedly recognizes a multitude of input methods, including fingers, styli and gloves. The battle for the king of phablets just got more competitive.

Ready, set, Angry Birds Go!

Rovio has started teasing the next evolution of the Angry Birds franchise. Details are scarce about Angry Birds Go! at the moment, but a short teaser animation (above) and image (below) hint that it’s racing related – maybe a downhill racer? Rovio claims the birds and piggies are getting ready for their “most thrilling and action-packed game yet.” The familiar characters from the Angry Birds series will be present in the game and, as players, we will be as close to Piggy Island than ever before. Following Samsung’s reveal of the Galaxy S4 Active earlier this month, it looks like AT&T is nearly ready to make the dust and waterproof Android smartphone official for the second largest network in the nation. AT&T released a teaser video on YouTube, posted above, which shows the Galaxy S4 Active being submerged underwater with no ill effects. The fully-sealed Galaxy S4 Active features a 5-inch 1080p Full HD LCD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 1.9GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage + microSD slot, a 2MP front-facing camera, 2600mAh battery, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, support for 4G LTE, and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with TouchWiz UX. The carrier promises to announce more details tomorrow, June 13, so we’ll be sure to followup with all the relevant information, including press shots, video and hopefully a release date.

Samsung unveiled the Android-powered Galaxy S4 Zoom smartphone-camera hybrid today. It’s almost like a Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Camera combined into one device. The Galaxy S4 Zoom sports a 4.3-inch qHD Super AMOLED display, 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1.5GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage + microSD slot, a 16 megapixel OIS camera with 10x optical zoom and enhanced smart modes, 1.9MP front-facing camera, NFC, 4G LTE connectivity, a 2330mAh battery, and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with Touchwiz Nature UX.

The Galaxy S4 Zoom has a unique Zoom Ring, which allows quick access to the handset’s camera features. For example, if you’re in the midst of a call and you want to take a photo and share it, a quick twist of the Zoom Ring will activate the In-Call Photo Share feature, which lets you capture and send a a photo directly through MMS to the person on the other end of the call. The Zoom Ring can also be used to initiate the Quick Launch and Shortcut features.

Today, Sprint announced that the ZTE Vital Android smartphone will be available for $100 with a new two-year agreement beginning on June 14th. The Vital comes with a 5-inch 1280×720 HD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage expandable via microSD slot, a 13 megapixel rear camera, 1MP front-facing camera, NFC, 2500mAh battery, 3G/4G LTE support, and Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. It’s basically a mid-range option for those who prefer larger screened handsets.

Samsung’s June 20th Premiere event may be ten days away, but one headlining product likely to be announced there has already been spotted. The leaked press shot above and the in-the-wild photos below allegedly show off what’s currently being called the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom (SM-C101). The camera-centric smartphone reportedly features a 4.3-inch qHD Super AMOLED display, 1.6GHz dual-core processor, 8GB of internal storage + microSD card slot, a 16 megapixel camera with optical zoom, and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with TouchWiz Nature UX. The Galaxy S4 Zoom joins the 2013 Galaxy series lineup, which also consists of the original Galaxy S4, Galaxy S4 Active and Galaxy S4 mini.

The official Man of Steel game based on the new Superman movie of the same name is coming to Android and iOS-powered smartphones and tablets on June 14th. Warner Bros. Games revealed the upcoming title through a short trailer on YouTube which teases bone-crushing combos, alternate costumes, special moves like heat vision, plenty of flying and in-flight combat.
