Where have I been!?! Good question...Well, I have been taking a break from FBT, and spending more time on my pursuit of a new career. I feel bad that my updates have been few and FAR between of late, but I assure you that FBT is still alive and kicking! I have several new reviews prime for posting, and additional stuff up my sleeve sure to please. Meanwhile, I thought it would be cool to post the first trailer for the upcoming Green Hornet film starring Seth Rogen. Take a look and tell me what you think....

REALLUSION HOSTS THE 2ND ANNUAL ICLONE FILMMAKING COMPETITION

Real-time movie making and next generation machinima have never been so easy for movie enthusiasts with iClone4 – now users have the opportunity to show off their talents and participate in a worldwide event!

San Jose, CA (April 14, 2010) — Reallusion, the award-winning leader of 3D Cinematic tools for consumers, students and professionals, announces today that it is hosting the 2nd Annual iClone Filmmaking Competition. For a second year in a row, Reallusion brings another movie making competition where users from all skill levels join to compete for over $10,000 in prizes.

Last year Reallusion held the first iClone Filmmaking Competition, which was themed on War & Peace and attracted hundreds of users along with receiving almost 100 movie submissions. The 2010 competition shall be themed on Science Fiction and is scheduled to run from April 14th to July the 4th.

Would-be contestants will have the opportunity to showcase their movie making talents by competing for 10 award winning categories, including; Best Picture, Best Movie Tribute, Best Screenplay, Best Visual FX, Best Sound FX and others. A variety of award and prizes have been provided, by several branded sponsors, that will undoubtedly bring high interest to the competition. Movie submissions will be judged on several criteria such as; quality, creativity and exceptional effort.

To compete, contestants just need to fill-out the submission form with their movie title, movie description, credits, contact information and uploaded YouTube movie URL. Sci-Fi Movies must be created with Reallusion's iClone 3D movie machine software and need to be no longer than 10 minutes. Anyone is eligible to compete as iClone has a very user friendly interface and is available in a free EX trial version at Reallusion's website. Reallusion has also released a free Sci-Fi Content Pack for users to benefit during the competition. Movie ideas may range from movie tributes, to machinima/media mashups, or original drama and adventure stories.

I Came across this article on Horrorseek.com. If you're not familiar with Mr. Glut's groundbreaking work in the hallowed halls of Fan Film history, this is a great article to introduce you to the incredible creativity, ingenuity, and heart, that make Don's films so enjoyable to this very day!

This particular article focuses on Don's superhero Fan Film's. Years before Batman fought The Predator, or Dan Poole swung around Maryland on a rope, Don was making his own superhero films in his backyard featuring the likes of, Captain America, The Phantom, Captain Marvel, Spy Smasher, Spider-Man, and more!

Is anyone familiar with the Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon? The game is based under the assumption that any actor can be linked through his or her film roles to actor Kevin Bacon within six steps. I was having a bizarre thought while editing this week’s Podcast and took it a step farther. Do the fan film makers Fanboy Will and I talk with fit into the game? In some cases – very, very easily. Sometimes I think people get so enamored with “celebrity” we don’t realize how attainable or how we regular folk connect to these so called “stars”. So I took this week’s guest Chris Bouchard and put him to my hypothesis. Actually, Chris was pretty easy. But let’s play and maybe next time it will be a little more challenging.

OH WAIT! You may actually be asking yourself who Chris Bouchard is. I’m sure if you listen to this Podcast or know anything about fan films ‘The Hunt for Gollum’ has crossed your path. In my opinion the film in question along with another Lord of the Rings fan film called ‘Born of Hope’ both have legitimized the genre even further. And to borrow from an old, tired both films have raised the bar to what fan films can and will become.

So onto the game. Onto Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon.

1) Chris Bouchard directed Max Bracey is The Hunt for Gollum.
2) Max Bracey portrayed Baby Superman in Superman IV: The Quest for Peace.
3) Superman IV: The Quest for Peace starred Gene Hackman.
4) Gene Hackman was in Get Shorty with John Travolta.
5) John Travolta was in Broken Arrow with Christian Slater.
6) And Christian Slater was in Murder in the First with Mr. Kevin Bacon.

So I give you Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon. A game even the fan film lovers can play.

“COMIC BOOK LITERACY” PREMIERES AT CHICAGO’S C2E2

This Documentary feature film showcases the utilization of comic books to promote literacy and education

CHICAGO, IL - The independent documentary feature film “Comic Book Literacy” will make its world premiere at C2E2 - The Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo. The film will screen on Sunday April 18th at 1:45. After the screening there will be a Q&A with the film’s director Todd Kent.

“Comic Book Literacy” emphasizes the positive attributes of a misunderstood medium. The film features appearances by comic book writers and artists such as Paul Dini, Scott McCloud, Terry Moore, Joe Quesada, Jim Salicrup, Gail Simone and Art Spigeleman as well as historians and scholars who discuss the role comics play in education in both an historical and contemporary context.

“Many, many people we spoke with attributed their love of reading to comic books,” Kent said, “And we are thrilled to be able to share that excitement and spread the good word about comics.”

Kent added, “C2E2 is a great fit for the film and we’re honored to be a part of it.” Topics in the film include visual literacy, vocabulary and even science and history, the learning of which can be enhanced with the help of comics.

There are plans to screen the film at film festivals and comic book conventions throughout the year with the goal of obtaining a wide release distribution.

“We also hope to spread the word about what a great educational resource comics are,” said Kent, “All teachers should have some comics in their utility belt.”

YO JOE! I mean YO SCOTT! I’m talking Scott Grass from Forsaken Filmz who has brought us the G.I. Joe fan film "End Of Peace". G.I. Joe is not a property you normally see in the world of fan films due the extensive cast of characters, intricate costuming, and potential for costly special effects. But if there’s one thing fan film makers can do is stretch the imagination to make the inconceivable conceivable. Scott and his crew have juggled what could potentially be a disastrous production into a cool film that holds the heart and integrity to what the die hard G.I. Joe fans would expect from such a project.

As all members of the fan film making community can imagine it’s not always easy making a final production, to actually get it out there for all to see. Scott talks candidly about the trials and disappointments in took to get "End of Peace" to eventually see the light of day. And Forsaken Filmz is not a one trick pony. Oh no! As the normal genesis of the people that make these fan films they progress into their own original projects in this case Forsaken’s "Thou Shall Kill".

So Fanboy Will tells me of this fan film called X-23 Terrell Culbert. What the hell is an X-23? More importantly what the hell is a Terrell Culbert? Using my keen research skills I turn to the inter oracle known as THE GOOGLE.

A top-secret program is tasked to replicate the original Weapon X experiment that produced the feral mutant Wolverine. The Y chromosome from the only genetic sample from Weapon X is unable to be salvaged. So a female clone is proposed in the form of X-23. X-23 was created for the X-Men: Evolution animated television series and later brought into the comics pretty much how Harley Quinn from the Batman mythos did a decade or more ago.

OK! That answers that. Now who is this Culbert guy? The oracle tells us Terrell is a prolific talent who writes, draws, and makes fan films. I mean, if he didn’t make fan films I wouldn’t even be writing this, but I digress. Terrell runs his own imprint and productions under the label Breathe Again Entertainment. Along with his "X" related fan film his original character sEVE is being produced in comic book form and soon to the visual realm of film.

Also in this Fan Film Podcast, Fanboy Will sums up our feelings and thoughts beautifully on the passing of Andrew Koenig who took his own life this past week. Most of you may know Andrew from his portrayal of the Joker in Sandy Collora’s Batman: Dead End. Although, certainly not an embodiment of his entire life of work, this is a performance that will have a special place here in the confines of the Fan Film Podcast. R.I.P. Andrew.

“THE DISAGREEMENT” FAN FILM RELEASES FEBRUARY 26TH

Stormfront’s first short film focuses on DC Comics’ Female characters

Baton Rouge, LA- February 25th, 2010- Central Louisiana enters the world of fan film
creativity with the introduction of Stormfront Entertainment’s (SFE) short film
“The Disagreement”. The movie has a scheduled release of 8pm on February 26th, 2010
from the official SFE website at http://www.stormfrontentertainment.com/Videos.html.

Based on two of the most popular female characters in the DC Universe, this little project
follows a polite conversation between Selina Kyle and Diana Prince that quickly turns sour
when the two characters discover their boyfriends have too much in common. It does not
help matters that these lovely ladies are also Catwoman and Wonder Woman in disguise!

The project, which took approximately four months to complete with a budget of $600 dollars,
is the inaugural production by upstart independent film company SFE. Actress Kristin Ann
(Selina Kyle), whose experience includes stints on Monk and The West Wing, takes the lead
role opposite Zabrina Lusker (Diana Prince), a newcomer to the acting scene. Rounding out
the cast is actor Joshua Stelly. All three actors are natives of the New Orleans and Baton
Rouge areas in south Louisiana.

Stormfront Entertainment plans to use “The Disagreement” as a launching platform to
enter the world of international fan film productions. Other fan films projects currently
under development include “Hidden Friend” (Transformers), “Poker Night” (The Flash),
and “Donna Parker” (Green Lantern). SFE also plans to integrate original projects into
the above list of developing fan films. Original projects include “Zydeco” (horror),
“The Undelivered” (thriller), and “Proximate Violence” (suspense).

R.I.P ANDREW KOENIG

Our fears in the Fan Film community, and the world of entertainment, have tragically become the horrible truth. Andrew Koenig, best known for his role in the sitcom Growing Pains, and as the son of Star Trek legend Walter Koenig, has taken his life at the age of 41. Koenig, who was staying with friends in Vancouver, went missing on Valentines day and was never seen again. Koenigs body was discovered in Vancouver's, Stanley Park on Thursday. No cause of death has been determined. Koenig was best known in the Fan Film community for his outstanding portrayl of The Joker in Sandy Collora's legendary fan film, Batman-Dead End. Andrew will be sorely missed, My heart goes out to Mr. Koenig, friends, and family. R.I.P

Starting today FBT will become a force to be reckoned with in the rough and tumble world of comic book reviews! Calm down, I know it's a lot to take in all at once...You okay? Good! For our first comic review here at FBT, I have the pleasure of bringing you the low down on the brilliant, black comedy fueled page turner, Bad Kids Go To Hell!

Like your comics seriously F'ed up? Well my good friend, you have come to the right place!

Brought to you by writers Matt Spradlin, Barry Wernick, and featuring solid pencil and ink work by Anthony Vargas, the premier issue of BKGTH does what every comic worth a damn should do, It features an awesome story that sinks it's hooks into you, and takes you for one Hell of a ride!

Issue one introduces us to our colorful cast of characters, six unlucky Prep School students (a jock, a priss, a nerd, a weirdo, a brain), and one mysterious outsider, spending a perfectly good Saturday afternoon in detention. No big whoop right? Wrong! It just so happens that the newly constructed library they are doing hard time in harbors a sinister secret that will pit student against student, when a seemingly harmless seance, by a bunch of bored teens, unleashes an ancient evil that will leave them fighting for their lives, one at a time..

If I were to use corny metaphors to describe this book, I guess I would liken it to a cross between Heathers, Poltergeist, and The Breakfast Club, which is funny, since creator Matt Spradlin admits to being influenced by the work of John Hughes while writing the script for this book. I use the word "script" instead of "story", since the book has a very cinematic feel to it. Also amusing, considering a movie based on the series is currently in development.

What more can I say kiddies, this baby is a great read well worth the cover price of admission (another movie reference, Yeesh!) so visit your local comic shop today and ask for it by name, or you can always order the book directly from the official website. Either way, give these people your money! Awesome job guys, looking forward to reviewing issue #2!

The Metropolis Chamber of Commerce and Inked Monkey Productions are proud to announce the Third Annual Superman Celebration Fan Film Competition.

We're looking for the best superhero-themed short fan films of 15 minutes or less, and the winner will walk away with $300! Films can feature existing or original superheroes, and are not limited to any single comic publisher's universe.

Hey Folks, Welcome to the first installment of Fanboy Fodder. Fanboy Fodder is a random entry that is Fanboy friendly, but not related to Fan Films. Today's entry is all about my recent trip to The Dollar Tree! Normally a trip to the dollar store is a guilty pleasure that is nothing to write home about, but on this particular day I discovered some buried treasure in the form of comic books, and trading cards! The comics were in mystery packs, containing 2-3 older comics, and a random non-sports trading card. Here's a list of the comics I scored in 5 packs...Fantastic Four #247, The Iron Manual #1 (An Iron Man Tech guide), The Micronauts #57, Terminator 2-Judgement Day:Cybernetic Dawn #1, The New Mutants #32, Air Raiders #1, Teen Titans Spotlight #18, Xena Warrior Princess & Joxer Warrior Prince #1, And Secret Wars II #9. The cards included in the packs included were two Wolverine cards, one Batman movie card (Tim Burton film), a Valiant Comics card, and a Marvel Comics foil card. Check out the pics of the actual items below...And now, Here are the sealed non-sports trading card packs I acquired from the mystery card packs....The Mask-Movie Cards, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II-The Secret Of The Ooze-Movie Cards, Muppets Take The Ice cards, and Garfield Collection cards from Pacific
Cards.

Not too shabby... Just goes to show you that you never know what you'll find at your local dollar store.
