Welcome to the Jer & Min Photography website!

On October 10, 2009, Jeremy was hit and killed by a drunk driver while participating in the Ragnar Relay in Las Vegas. Running was one of Jer’s great passions, and he died doing something he loved.

Photography was another interest about which he was very passionate. In the year before his death, he showed great dedication to developing his considerable talent and abilities. This website demonstrates what an amazing photographer Jer had become. His posts serve as a reminder to take joy in life and the beauty of the world, and to share that joy with the people around us, the way that Jer always did. But most importantly, the subject matter of so many of his photos reveals that Jer’s greatest passion was always his family.

Please feel free to browse the website, which (except for this post) is exactly how he left it. You are also invited to visit the memorial website. There you will be able to share stories, memories and thoughts about Jer, and express your condolences and support to his family. You can get to the memorial website by clicking here, or on the “Jeremy Kunz Memorial Website” link at the top of any page on this site.

I misread this challenge as Arm instead of Arms, so you getting an arm instead of both of them.

We’ve had some great storms move in lately and this morning was no different. I wish I had time to setup a better shot, but the sun was coming nicely through a break in the clouds so we shot as fast as we could. The wind was whipping my daughter’s hair around and the light on the clouds approaching made them turn an amazing blue which I thought contrasted nicely with the warm tone of the sun on my daughter’s arm.

I saw this old sign while I was out for a run this afternoon. I can vaguely make out the word warning near the top of the sign. The rest of the message has faded away. I shot this as a storm was heading in using my flash to bring out the sign.

I converted to Black and White thinking that it adds a bit of drama to the shot, but will also post the color version in a comment below.

Strobist: single flash fired into a gold reflector.

Lately, I’ve been really enjoying photos processed B&W and out of focus, sometimes the focus is on an object in the foreground, other times the out of focus nature of the photograph comes from movement. In most cases, there is a strong black point in the photo and an overall darker appearance. To me, these photos feel like memories and invoke quite a bit of emotion to me. With no commitments as to how often I will contribute to this series, I will continue to publish photos that fit this feel for me.

The first photo is of my daughter reading. My wife and I were speaking the other day that my daughter’s entire life consists of gymnastics, reading, playing the piano, and sleeping. That is what she spends her time doing.

This photo is a typical scene in our life, Min spends a great deal of time making sure we eat home-cooked meals. She is a terrific cook and it is a pleasure to me that she places such importance in our life of eating together.

I had a pretty fun idea for this challenge which would have required a pretty bright morning. Unfortunately, we have just the opposite as a very nice storm has moved into our little part of the world. So instead of taking the shot I had planned, I thought I’d share a shot of my favorite window.

This window is in the bathroom of the place I work. It is a frosted window measuring 41×41 inches. It makes a wonderful natural light softbox. The walls to the left are a neutral gray and are easy to manipulate. As I’ve mentioned before, on more than one occasion people have seen me walk out of the bathroom with my camera.
