Do you have a favorite Dr. Seuss book? Who doesn’t love “Green Eggs and Sam,” “Horton Hears a Who” or “The Cat in the Hat?” Characters from these books and more treasured Dr. Seuss favorites will appear in “Seussical the Musical,” this year’s high school musical.

Featuring students from both Amador Valley and Foothill high schools, “Seussical the Musical” follows the adventures of Horton, an elephant who one day hears voices coming from a speck of dust.

Opening weekend is March 18-20, with a second weekend of performances March 25-27 at the Amador Theater, 1155 Santa Rita Road. Let’s support our teen actors in Pleasanton!

Dublin Schools Continue to Excel!

We heard a presentation recently about Dublin schools and the news was very positive!

All of Dublin’s API scores are over 800, and three schools are at or above 900
96 percent of Dublin’s graduates attend college

No Time Like the Present to Jump into the Pleasanton Housing Market

If you’re in the market for a new home in Pleasanton or the Tri-Valley, here’s one more reason why it makes sense to buy now rather than later: Currently, lenders are using 2007 and 2008 tax returns for qualifying buyers, but after April 15, underwriters will request tax returns for 2009. This is a noteworthy change because for some buyers, it can make the difference between qualifying or not. Here’s why: If you had a slow 2009 – which many people did – underwriters will have the option of declining a loan for “declining income.” They compare your 2007, 2008, and 2009 tax returns and if those earlier years are higher than 2009, it will be more difficult to get a loan approved as a result of this “declining income” scenario.

Lights, Camera, Action! Livermore Valley Going Hollywood!

We love Livermore’s moxie! Local leaders are stepping up their efforts to bring big movie productions to the Livermore Valley. With new tax incentives offered by the state and gorgeous panoramas of the hillsides and vineyards to show off, the Livermore Valley Film Commission is doing what it can to entice moviemakers to set up camp locally.

Take a Hike!

We mean that in the nicest possible way, of course!

It’s our way of encouraging you to support Hope Hospice this spring by participating in a fund-raising hike in the beautiful Sunol wilderness. Sign-ups are already underway for the Hike for Hope, which will be held on May 1, beginning between 8:30-9:30 a.m. There are two treks available, ranging from easy to moderate. Registration is $25 in advance; $35 on site. Children 6 and under are free.

This is a memorial hike, so hikers are encouraged to bring a photograph or another special memory piece of the loved one you are hiking in memory of and Hope Hospice will provide a Hike for Hope lanyard for you to display your memento. Who will you hike for? Think about it and then sign up for this special hike.

Time is Running Out on the Home Buyer Tax Credits

The clock is ticking on the federal tax credit for both first-time buyers and repeat buyers. To qualify, buyers must have a binding written contract in effect April 30 and closed by July 1.

While much has been written about the $8,000 tax credit for first-time buyers, the so-called repeat buyer tax credit doesn’t seem to be as well known. So here are the details:

Current homeowners buying a house between now and April 30 and who have used the house they are selling as their principal residence for five consecutive years within the last eight can qualify for a $6,500 tax credit. This incentive was added when the original $8,000 tax credit for qualified first-time buyers, which expired Nov. 30, was extended.

To qualify for the repeat-buyer credit, the home being purchased must be $800,000 or less. Single buyers with incomes up to $125,000 and married couples up to $225,000 may receive the maximum tax credit for both repeat and first-time purchases. The credit decreases for buyers who earn between $125,000 and $145,000 for single buyers and between $225,000 and $245,000 for home buyers filing jointly. The amount of the tax credit decreases as his/her income approaches the maximum limit. Buyers earning more than the maximum are not eligible for the credit.
