Wordpress JQuery Countdown Widget

Countdown timers are important because it allows your followers and visitors to be aware of something to look forward for in any of your upcoming activities and important events. A lot of timers are available on the web right now especially for wordpress which are already been widgetized to become effortless to developers to use.
One of the problem I encountered last week is when I use JQuery Countdown Timer for my wordpress site, I almost consume more that 2 days figuring out how to display such functionality. I browsed internet and no one seems to answer my problem until I found my very own way to add this functionality. I use JQuery Countdown by Keith Wood. Here’s how

Visit http://keith-wood.name/countdown.html to view example and click here to download the package.
Extract the package to your favorite folder and open the sample “countdownBasics.html” page if working. We need this page so that we could copy some settings that we want to insert later.
Copy “css” and “js” folder to “wp-content\themes\[YourTemplateDirectory]”.
Remember: This is not a widget. This tutorial is step-by-step way of inserting jquery countdown timer into your Wordpress site.
In your template directory, locate “header.php” and open it with your favorite text editor. I prefer to use wordpad in this.
In your “header.php” file, search for “</head>” and paste the following lines at the top portion of “</head>”.

The example above is counting down to 26 January 2012. Please correctly specify the year and date to avoid errors.
Once added please don’t forget to save.
Login to your Wordpress Admin Panel and locate Appearance->Widgets.
Look for a “Text” Widget and drag it to your sidebar tab panel.
Add title to your new widget and in the content box add:

Then hit save.
Test your site and you’re done.

Building a CSS Template for JOOMLA!

This series will help you get familiar with the routine and not so rountine processes of constructiong a CSS template. The series details the contruction of a two-column, fixed-width layout.

Skill Level: Intermediate/Advanced

The Building a CSS Template Series starts with a photoshop layout and ends with converting a CSS template into a JOOMLA readable template. By the completion of this series, you will have learned how to slice and make ready a photoshop layout for the web, construct the basic structure of an XHTML/CSS document, work through common brower bugs in CSS, and optimize the template for JOOMLA.

Two notes:
This series uses Dreamweaver, StyleMaster, and several plugins from various JOOMLA sites. You don't have to have any of these programs to use this tutorial as they give you an understanding on how to build a template in whichever program you would like to use.

This series also used an open source screen-capturing software to create the tutorials. Later on, the commercial software, "Camtasia" was discovered and delievered a much better recording quality. The rest of the tutorial series will be created using Camtasia; so if you are wondering why this series is a bit different than the others, that is why.

Many plug-ins that are available to download on the internet but if you want to create your own drop-down menus for your website’s drop-down navigation, using CSS can achieve equal effect of what plug-ins can do.

We all know that todays captchas generate string that most of times are hard to read from eye of human and this requires that the page must reload (refresh) to generate new captcha string, and after refreshing page you may lost some of information you’ve already wrote in the input fields, meanwhile this creates frustration to you as user.
