It was very recently that FeedMyApp reviewed the offline map-reader MapsWithMe and, lo and behold, here is another GPS travel application to compare it to. Galileo Offline Maps (great name, eh?) let's you create your online maps on your home computer, do all your research on interesting places and routes and then import your maps into your iOS iDevice so you can use it when you are offline with only WiFi to help you out. Galileo Offline Maps claims to be the fastest offline map application for travelers ever in the App Store. It makes life easier when driving without the aid of an in-car GPS or an internet connection by allowing you to create offline maps of your desired location on computer, mark it with waypoints and routes before importing them into your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. Use the free version equipped with essential features or complete the configuration with enriched functionality through in-app purchases. It now supports a large number of different offline maps but make sure you have purchased the "Import Maps from PC" feature and iOS 4 installed. It's simple to use. Just download the "Mobile Atlas Creator" desktop application to your computer from the site. Create an offline map you want to browse offline and upload it to "Galileo Offline Maps" through iTunes and you'll never get lost again. While you are browsing a map online, all recently viewed map images are saved in the cache. Thanks to this you can browse this map again without an Internet connection even while your iPhone is in the flight mode. Use it offline and enjoy your trip. You could just rent or buy a GPS system to guide you on that epic road trip up Highway One to San Francisco but I'm yet to find one that doesn't feature an annoying voice or send me up the one-way system the wrong way. Besides, why spend a fair amount of money on GPS or expensive roaming charges on your mobile when apps like Galileo or MapsWithMe provide an excellent service for a fraction of the price...and with no condescending voice tutting at you when you miss a turn off. This version of Galileo has added heaps of new features from previous versions. So next time you are planning that big trip it would be wise to add this travel app to your arsenal. It's worth it.

MapsWithMe is what could be described as an almost masterpiece as a travel app for iDevices and iOS. Don't get me wrong - I love the idea of having a map app that you don't need an Internet connection to access and, believe me, there are times in my road tripping life that it would come in really useful to have a detailed map in front of me whilst negotiating the one way streets of San Francisco with only a wifi iDevice to navigate by. How this travel guide and GPS works is by downloading the relevant map and detailed city guides to your device before you leave. So lets look at the ample positives of MapsWithMe Pro. It has two main features - maps of every city and country in the world and a detailed guide that lists interesting articles, places of interest, airport info and various travel routes relevant to the area. Very useful during travels to find those great "off the beaten tracks" places as well as essential services. It certainly offers you the quickest offline maps wherever you are in the world leaving you the peace of mind to travel with full confidence and know where you are wherever you may be. Maps are downloaded on an 'as needed' basis. It features maps for all countries and all cities of the world in the one app but it's main claim to fame is definitely it's offline search capability which means no more high roaming charges on your phone anymore. And, what's more, you can search by categories whether it be ATM's, restaurants or just plain old parking stations. I love travel guides and MapsWithMe Pro provides a unique service which allows you to plan your trip by downloading relevant city or area maps to your iDevice before you leave - which is a brilliant innovation. Where it leaves one a little frustrated is with something that surely would be simple to address. With larger countries one has to download the whole country's map rather than a specific area or state within it which takes up a lot of space and time. Just a small thing but hopefully it is addressed with the next version. Having said that, I can see me using this excellent GPS based map and travel guide rather a lot in the future - I just want it to be even better.

It was developed by the people that provided the high quality apps PDF Connoisseur, PDF Reader and Animation Desk. It is easy to use, great looking and filled with detailed and useful features. But what makes NoteLedge really stand out is its cutting-edge patented feature called Navigator - a gadget that provides you with the ability to crop pictures and text in a personalized way and paste them anywhere on the screen. The bottom line with NoteLedge is its ridiculously good usability. There are heaps of other things available here that I haven't even told you about - I figured it might be a nice surprise when you download it to discover all the other features. iPad users in particular will love NoteLedge as it fills a gap especially if you use your tablet as much as many of us do these days.
