I went on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. My aim is to get a laptop of decent performance something that can be used for light gaming too. Eventually decided on the Asus F83VF, which is priced at S$1,498. It is not exactly a light laptop, but it came with a GT 220 video card, meaning i can play many games including COD Modern Warefare!

When i finally decided on getting it, was told that the stock ran out, infact most of Asus laptops were already out of stock. I was then told by the lady that i had to wait for around three weeks before the shipment come. To say the truth, i am not really suprised as Asus is well known for its excellent reliability and good performance/price ratio. But they are also well known for making boring looking and ugly laptops too. Damn, should have bought it on the first day but i wasn't in a hurry for it. Anyway was pretty much dissapointed with the promoters. There are a alot of promoters there, but i guess most of them know nuts about the products itself. I understand that they are only part timers and they do have limited knowledge, so dint really blame them for it.

Anyway my Sister bought her new 13" Mac Book Pro. It looks real cool, i am so jealous. And the Photo Booth program is so cute.

My first impression of the place was pretty good. The waitress were dressed in “hanboks” and greeted us warmly with "Welcome" in Korean. Looking at the menu, there are a lots of dishes to choose from makes me ponder which dishes to order because i am not really into Korean food. Eventually decided on having the set dinner for two person.

First came the appetiser consisting of a few cold vegetables mini dishes including the Kimchi. The rice dish is one of the best rice dishes i have ever tried, although i have forgotten the name of it. I am guessing it to be Kimchi fried rice, because its abit reddish and there are bits of kimchi inside. The rice is sticky and it is abit similar to claypot rice with crispy charred bits inside. So tasty!

Next we had their "Samgyetang", the Korean Ginseng Chicken Soup which is the specialty of the place. Afterall this place named itself after this dish, but was left abit dissapointed. It is'nt bad, nor was it very good. The Samgyetang taste the best when it is hot, however we were too busy with the other dishes. When we tried it, it was already cold and it wasnt really that nice. The soup has an entire chicken inside and it seems that they stewed it for quite sometime because the meat is so tender.

Dining here is not really cheap, cost us around $40 per person. We had a difficult time trying to finish the food, because the portion for the two person dinner was too big for us.

The six small side dishes including Kimchi!

The Tasty Rice

Ginseng chicken soup

Tasty grilled mackerel

It is an opportunity to reflect on the millions of people who have been victims of this disease and the millions more who are being infected each and every day, across the planet.

What is HIV?

HIV is a virus that attacks the body’s immune system – the body’s defence against diseases.

Are HIV and AIDS the same?

No. When someone is described as living with HIV, they have the HIV virus in their body. A person is considered to have developed AIDS when the immune system is so weak it can no longer fight off a range of diseases with which it would normally cope.

How is HIV passed on?

HIV can be passed on through infected blood, semen, vaginal fluids or breast milk.

The most common ways HIV is passed on are:

* Sex without a condom with someone living with HIV

* Sharing infected needles, syringes or other injecting drug equipment

* From an HIV-positive mother (to her child) during pregnancy, childbirth or breastfeeding (but with effective treatment and care the risk of transmission can be greatly reduced)

Is there a cure for HIV?
No, but treatment can keep the virus under control and the immune system healthy. People on HIV treatment can live a healthy, active life, although they may experience side effects from the treatment. If HIV is diagnosed late, treatment may be less effective.

I like the ambience here alot, however it tend to sound like a fish market at time due to the large amount of diner. The price over here at Carousel is very reasonable compared to buffet in other hotels.

Sadly, the quality of some of the food here isn't really up to standard. First, the Sushi bar is dissapointing, with pathetic variety and poorly cut sashimi. Then going on to the cakes section, most of the cakes were quite dry like they weren't fresh. The Otah from the Nasi Lemak is so salty, wonder if it is made from salted fish.

But not all is bad here. The Popiah here is very good, so do the Kueh Pie Tee. I love eating Kueh Pie Tee. It is a Nonya delicacy where you fill a crisp shell with turnip, egg, peanut and parsley. It is just the perfect combination.

Lastly, the service here is good. They have enough waiter around, thus unwanted plates are cleared quickly.

I made these Kuey Pie Tees myself!

The warm Durian Pulp oozing out from the waffles. Must try.

The Cakes are a huge turn off!

Apparently the writer of the blog is a Taxi driver in Singapore. From what i read in his blog, he is a Chinese National and "Probably the only taxi driver in this world with a PhD from Stanford and a proven track record of scientific accomplishments".

"When IMCB of ASTAR terminated my employment, they never explained to me why. They only bothered themselves to the point of telling me that they will no longer support my lab in the institute because they think I am no good to them. I was never given any specific explanation, oral or written, what made them think I was no good after 16 years of hard work in IMCB. Even today, it is still a mystery to me."
I remember this story, because it's one of redemption. It also shows that people can be compassionate, even someone that is as seemingly heartless as Mr Scrooge. Jim Carrey hogs the majority of the voice work, providing the voice of Scrooge from childhood to old-age, along with the three Ghosts of Christmas. I must say he did a pretty good job, i can't even recognise his voice. The film's animation effect is spectacular. Animation nowadays have improved so much.

*** Spoiler ***

Mr Scrouge is a grumpy old man who has stopped believing in Christmas because of his bitterness to the world. He is entirely unsympathetic to the poor and needy. Scrooge is also neglectful to his own family, such as his nephew Fred. Then one Christmas Eve, Scrooge returns home and is met by the ghost of his former business partner Marley who was in chains. Marley warned that three spirits will soon come to him and that very evening they do. First came the Ghost of Christmas Past, the second the Ghost of Christmas Present and the third the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come. Each ghost serves to show Scrooge where his life went wrong and what will come if he does not change his ways.

But parents who are planning on bringing their children to this movie, be warned! Some parts of the movie were pretty scary with the ghost popping out suddenly, Scrouge being chased by demonic horses and more.

I especially love the Ghost of Christmas Present scene. So heart warming.

Top Gear Series 13

I just got my hands onto Top Gear Series 13. So excited! This is my favourite Automobile TV program, featuring Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, James May and The Stig.

Wasted no time in watching the First episode. Started with the Top Gear Race to the North which is a three way race between a Jaguar XK120 car, a Vincent Black Shadow motorbike, and No. 60163 Tornado train. The three presenters were put onto three different machines to see who can reach their destination first.

Then it was also unveiled later in the episode that the Stig is Michael Schumacher later on in the episode. This is just so cool, Michael Schumacher is possibly the best driver in F1 ever. Before he was unveiled, he was driving the Ferrari FXX around the track and it. He clock the best timing in the Top Gear Test Track and wiping 7 seconds off the next car, Gumpert Apollo Sport. The black unstriped Ferrari FXX on the show was owned by Michael Schumacher.
"A spokesman for Top Gear confirmed Schumacher had been The Stig during the Ferrari circuit, where he completed a lap of the Top gear track in 1 minute 10.7 seconds in a £1 million Ferrari FXX – seven seconds faster than ever before."

The Ferrari FXX. Cooler than a batmobile. It is based on the legendary Ferrari Enzo. Customers pay $2.5 million, but are only allowed to drive the car on special track days which are approved by Ferrari.

Dean & Joey Wedding

Went for my colleague wedding last night over at Grand Shanghai in King's Centre. Co-incidentally i had another wedding dinner (distant relative) over at Traders Hotel, but decided on going to this one, because the other wedding was attended by the rest of my family. Stepping into Grand Shanghai is indeed like stepping into old Shanghai, Shanghai Tan. The ambience is really great over here with red decorations and dim lightings enhancing the experience. Coupled with the Cheongsam singer who was singing at the Grandstage with an old school retro band. Perfect.

Going on to the food. It was generally the typical wedding dinner dishes, starting with coldplate, sharkfin to the desserts. The dishes was divided into portions first before being served to the guests. We were lucky that our table is half filled, with everyone ending up with two portions for every dishes served.

I must say the standard of the dinner was not really good. I am not a sharkfin person, but you could only find bits of sharkfin and the soup itself is basically made up of starch. Then came the scallop in yam, the Yam smells so funny, it smells like hair dye. The smell is so strong that most of all did not ate it. Bleah.

The only dish that was good was the Cold plate with their specialty crispy eels. Sadly, their other specialty, the Sauteed river shrimp with salted egg yoke is pretty average.

But anyway,
Congratulations on getting Hitched, Dean!

Video: A Moving Story

But suprised to see so many cars outside the prawn farm and much more people compared to the last time. The prawning hide-out is at Pasir Ris Farmway 2/3, with small signboard with neon lights outside.

Rates:
15 - 1 hour
25 - 2 hours
30 - 3 hours
35 - 4 hours

Initially the catch rate was pretty good, with the prawns keep coming to our hook. But after sometime, they don't seem to be any of them anymore. Guess the prawns like human are sleeping at this hour. Most of the prawns we caught were abit small compared to the last time.

In the end, we caught close to around 20 prawns. 70$ for 20 prawns, haha, i can buy close to more than 200 prawns i guess with that amount. Hey its the about the number of prawns caught, but the excitment of catching the prawn. Eventhough i fell asleep halfway through.
Everyone's trying to schedule their time to meet friends, packing their social calendar to the brim,
I had a wild thought that I don't want to be like everyone.

I want to succeed.

Not many people succeed, the ones who do, are not like everyone else.

The ones who succeed are different from everyone else,
they subscribe to a different lifestyle, they work extra hard.

Being successful is just a place not many people get to -
it filters the hard worker from the insanely hard working ones."
Well with a director of his credentials, this movie shouldn't be that bad right. Anyway 10,000 BC is a rubbish movie imho.

You are half right. Yes it isn't that bad, the CG effects are indeed over the top and the movie has a great cast. But something just doesn't feel right.

*** Spoiler ***

Neutrinos from the sun heats up the Earth's core, making the centre of the earth boil. This causes the crust that holds our tectonic plates to melt. Earthquakes and Tsunamis start occuring at all around the world. Super-countries began a project where they built few of this gigantic ships in China. The project was funded by the rich millionares all around the world, in exchange they were given a ticket or boarding pass for the ship.

It seems that the main characters are having their luckiest year of their lifetime. Plane taking off just before runway collapses, gliding through the sky avoiding all the lava that were spewed out from the volcano, driving just fast enough to avoid being hit by an explosion. It just seems to happen all the time throughout the entire movie.

I can't help but feel that some part of the show were pretty drag-ass with cheesy dialogue even in crunch situations. This explains why the movie is two and half hour long. Well at least we get to enjoy free aircon and a comfortable seat, except that i was seated in the FIRST row... at least i learn never to book movie tickets with a phone again.

Came across this, some of which were pretty hilarious.

100 things we've learned from 2012:
1. If you want to survive in 2012, take a couple of flight lessons.
42. Buy a Submarine before 12-21-2012.
60. If you make a call, hurry up and talk before the line goes dead!
117. When the world ends... the last thing ever made will read... "MADE IN CHINA"

Video: The Blackhole

Sharing it with you all!

The Line!

Yay, been along time since i went for a family dinner. This time it was with my Granny, Father, Mother, Sister, Uncle, Auntie, Cousin, Cousin-in-law. Off we go to The Line at Shangri La.

When i first stepped in, was greeted by the Orange and White chic decor. Either i am too hungry but the color of the decoration really whets my appetite.

Heard there is 16 stations and it is one of the biggest buffet in town. Indeed, with stations range from Mediterranean food to Indian and Italian, there is even a station with local hawker foodfare like Laksa.

Started off with the Salad and Tapas section.
-Parma ham and rockmelon. (recommended)
Pretty nice combination, the contrast of the two different type of food.
-Apricot Salmon.
Salmon baked nicely, not overcooked, but my tounge doesn't seem to be able to pick up the apricot taste.

I must say the Japanese section is pretty small. Tried their sushis and sashimi (tuna), pretty average, nothing much to shout about.

Then came the Crustacean section. This is pretty much the highlight of the buffet, many people raves about the fresh crustacean serves here. But was left disappointed again, no Lobsters!
-Oysters. So fresh and sweet. Slurp! So Succulent (recommended)
-Mussels. Fresh, not pungent.
(No photos? Because when the plate of Crustaceans landed on the table, it is gone within a few seconds!)

Indian Section. Come across another gem here.
-Tandooris (Chicken: recommended)
The chicken tandoori It is really good, flavorful and juicy. Definitely one of the better one i've tried. However the lamb falls short of expectation, pretty dry and dont really like the taste of it, maybe its just me.
-Naan
The naan serve here are unlike those you find from Indian resturant. it is very thin and quite dry, dont really like them too.
-Satays
Satays are a tad too dry, had to chew on them real hard to get them off the stick.

Chinese section. They serve alot of things, from char siew, wanton mee to laksa and mee siam.
-Roasted duck (recommended)
Its not fat, yet it is juicy and goes so well with the plum sauce. The skin is very nice too!
-Laksa (recommended)
Requested for half the portion. The soup/gravy is really rich and savoury.
-Black peper stir fry beef
Beef is tender. Thats all.

Skipped the Dim Sum section. Because they doesnt look appetizing at all. haha.

Deserts
-Crepes (recommended)
Freshly prepared. Served hot with lots of Nutella, there are other toppings too. Ohh great, maybe too much nutella though :(
-Creme brulee
Pretty average. Nothing much to shout about
-Tiramisu
Sweet. Simple. Nothing much to shout about.
-Bread Pudding (recommended)
Great texture and it is not too sweet.
-Icecream
Din't try, mostly sorbet. bleah.

Conclusion
The Line isn't really that bad. Hmm but paying $84 for it? not really worth the money, unless you spend the entire session at the Crustacean section. Then again, maybe my expectations might be too high.

Wish that i have two stomachs, i skipped many dishes. But hey, buffet is not about rushing to gobble down all the food you see, but more about the company. Taking your time slowly eat, chat with each other and enjoy the company. Its really a nice enviroment to dine in. Nothing sophisticated with the decoration with friendly customer service.

Next buffet session? Probably The Dining Room at Sheraton towers. I've heard the food there is pretty good and most of all the ambience and scenary is really nice.

Some truths are so painful that only shame can help you live with them.
1)You are on your own and feeling OK with yourself, but not really seeing anyone.
2)You meet someone you would like to get to know better.
3)The two of you decide to go out together.
4)You both have a really good time on your first date. You can't believe how much you have in common.
5)You go out again, and again it is great.
6)After going out together several times you both realize you have found someone special.
7)You fall in love and continue dating steadily.
8)You decide to get engaged.
9)You plan the wedding together and await the day.
10)You get married.
11)You live happily ever after.

But life is rarely easy or understandable. So things never seem to work out according to this list.

Trust
Relationships cannot grow or have a chance of becoming happy if there's no trust. Trust is something that grows when people see that they will not be let down or hurt by another. As i always like to say "With Trust, come Freedom".

Greener Grass Syndrome
The grass is always greener on the other side? No matter who you go out with, someone prettier/handsomer/smarter/stronger/more caring/etc. is going to come along. Your job in life, in conjunction with your partner, is to learn to deal with these normal human flaws that make all of us unique.

Out of Love
There are situations where you can look at your boyfriend or girlfriend, you can "feel" that "something" is seriously amiss and you can say to him or her, "Is something wrong? If something is wrong please tell me and I will fix it." And the person will look you right in the eye and say, "Nothing is wrong. I'm fine." And then a week later he or she dumps you and you find out there has been "someone else" for a month. Most people experience something like this at least once in their lives, and it is bewildering.

Why does that kind of stuff happen? It happens because relationships are random. There is no explaining why someone falls in love with you in the first place, and there is no explaining why someone falls out of love with you, either. It just happens. When it happens, the only thing you can do is accept it, be thankful for the good times and walk away. That can be incredibly hard to do, especially the first few times you get dumped; but it is the only thing you can do.

Rejecting a Crush
Always be honest. Never lie to someone who is crushing on you or lead them on. Don’t lie just to “spare his feelings,” because if he finds out, he will be more hurt that you lied. Respect his feelings and respect him as a person.

A Relationship is similar to an investment. Money, Time, Effort and Youth. Of course like any other investment, there are risks involved.

Wishing for a Washboard Abs

Alright, i know they aint washboard abs, but pretty close right.
You does not need to be a rocket scientist to figure out that its about losing fat and gaining muscles. You will first have to get rid of the belly and we shall start with diet.

Diet
-Drink more water
-Eat more vegetables and fruits
-No fast food
-No sugared drink
-Reduce portion size/increase meal amount

Water flushes the waste and toxins from your body. It also helps to keep you full so that you do not go around chomping on nasty foods. Same as water, fruits and vegetables helps to keep your stomach full and they are packed with nutrients, low in calories and fat.

Excercises
-Increase cardiovascular workouts (eg. Running)
-Abs Training (eg. Crunches, Flutter Kicks)

Even so you have to start building your abs, even if they are still under your belly fat.

McMonopoly

The only reason i had the mcdonald is just because of Macdonald's Monopoly game.

I must say the fries are the most horrible food on earth. they are so tough and takes long chewing. After swallowing them down, it feels like they are stuck in my stomach, totally disgusting. i dont think i can have any macdonald for the next few months.
Once again we have to thanks Shell for their sales gimmick.

I laughed when i read the below statement:
"Shell today announced that it would run its biggest fuel promotion in a decade as part of its ongoing efforts to teach Singapore motorists how to save fuel for life." -Oneshift.com

Shells claims that Fuelsave conserves fuel and reduce CO2 emission, but looking at the jam, end of the day drivers are wasting more fuel and creating more pollution with all the vehicles engine running while queuing. And not forgetting precious time, not only for those who queues but the inconvinience it cause to the other road users/commuters/buses/residents. The long queues causes massive jam around the island especially where roads are narrow. The poor Cisco have to be there to direct the flow of traffic under this hot weather. Come on if you want cheap petrol why not head over to our dear neighbour at North.

I must agree Singaporeans are just Kiasu!

As expected the MRT stations and trains were filled with people in the red Nike Run attire. Met Mike at popeye before proceeding for the run.

We waited all the way at the back of the startpoint. I was so disapointed was hoping to catch a glimpse of Rui En. The turnout for the run is exceptional, i guess now Singaporeans now are putting more emphasis on personnal fitness.

Flag off at 7.20am and we were stuck right at the back. We were chatting all the way non stop throughout the run, catching up with each other. I must say the last time i ran was a month back due to bad cough and flu, did not want to further aggravate the situtation. Route wise was pretty clear cut, not much turns and the barricades are set up properly.

I felt the adrenaline rush and my pace was pretty good. But a lot of energy was wasted on needless overtaking, energy wasted is energy wasted. I definitely struggled to sustain the pace at the last 3km, due to lack of running mileage and sleep perharps (another good excuse). My legs could substain but the lung was just giving up, having to slow down to prevent myself from burning out. I was so glad to see the Singapore Flyer getting closer and closer to me. Eventually, still manage to complete with a sub hour timing. Time for some trainings!

Met up with several of my campmates after the run and had a good chat after the run.

Finisher Band

Aim for the next few run:
Learn to do a Cartwheel over the finish line.
Get a washing board abs and wear compression tights with stylo milo Oakley, even though there isnt any sun.
