<p>No research has established with surety that a certain food type can affect the condition of those suffering from fibromyalgia either positively or negatively. Yet, it has been observed that a favorable change in the diet can prove to be beneficial for those who suffer from the condition of fibromyalgia. This is probably so because eating a healthy and balanced meal is anyways good for the body.</p>
<p><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-84" title="fruits-veggies.jpg" src="http://fibro-myalgia.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/fruits-veggies.jpg" alt="fruits-veggies.jpg" hspace="8" width="302" height="201" />Eating food that is low on fat and high on antioxidants that strengthen the immune system can prove to be highly beneficial. Certain therapists and researchers think that complete elimination of carbonated beverages, alcohol, chocolates and coffee can help one get prevent the onset of fibromyalgia if not cure it.</p>
<p>A diet must always be accompanied by appropriate exercises. There are some foods, which a dietician advices the patients of fibromyalgia and those who wish to prevent it, to avoid. These items include fried food items, alcoholic beverages, coffee and other drinks that contain caffeine, tobacco in all its forms, saccharine soda and other carbonated drinks, liquids along with meals, white flour and sugar, red meat especially those that are salt cured or smoked, junk food, salt and preservatives. Prolonged exposure to sunlight must also be avoided at all costs.</p>
<p>A number of people have benefited by being loyal to the diet and practicing the exercise accompanying it. The diet primary aims at reducing hyperactivity in people so that they do not complain of stress and fatigue after a short time. The energy levels are restored to normal, rather than the constant highs and lows that were creating an imbalance. Carbonated drinks are especially harmful as they leak phosphorus into the bones, reducing bone density and certain soda drinks are speculated to possibly cause memory loss.</p>
<p>A diet therefore, primarily aids by maintaining a healthy balance within the body thus eliminating the chances of becoming a victim of fibromyalgia easily.</p>

<p>Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition affecting mainly females yet men and children can also be affected by this illness. Fibromyalgia symptoms are characterized by widespread pain affecting all four quadrants of the body.</p>
<p><img class="alignright size-full wp-image-344" title="lady6" src="http://fibro-myalgia.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/lady6.jpg" alt="lady6" width="240" height="306" />Fibromyalgia pain has been described as sharp shooting pain, burning, stabbing and even a deep dull ache. Patients with fibro feel like their joints are being affected by the disease but it is the muscles not the joints that are affected.</p>
<p>Other fibromyalgia symptoms are extreme fatigue, irritable bowel syndrome, Reynaud&#039;s Syndrome, Restless Leg syndrome, memory problems stemming from &#039;fibro fog,&#039; eye prescription changes and many more.</p>
<p>Each fibro sufferer has differing symptoms and different levels of pain. What helps one fibro patient may not help another; also, the pain and fatigue changes on a day to day basis so it is difficult to prescribe a &#039;one cure fits all&#039; approach.</p>
<p>Here are 7 tips to reducing fibromyalgia symptoms;</p>
<p>1. Exercise &#8211; this is the dreaded word for fibromyalgia sufferers as it takes all the energy they have just to get through each day! But, it has been proven that easy gentle exercises do help with the pain and stiffness associated with fibromyalgia pain.</p>
<p>It is important to start off slowly and build up to a good routine. Start off walking and increase the time until you can do 30 minutes a day. Swimming is excellent as it takes all the weight off your joints and makes it a good all round work out, but again, start off slowly.</p>
<p>2. A good fibromyalgia diet is a low carbohydrate, high protein diet. Many people with fibromyalgia say they have a lessening of symptoms when they eat a healthier low carbohydrate diet. Eliminating sugar from their diet also helps.</p>
<p>3. Heating pads. Nothing feels better than a warm pad on aching joints. Many types are available today, some you just pop in the microwave for instant warmth that soothes away fibromyalgia pain.</p>
<p>4. Topical medications. There are dozens of runs available that help give instant relief for fibro pain. Some are now specially geared to fibromyalgia.</p>
<p>5. Meditation really helps lower stress levels that often trigger fibromyalgia pain. It may not be a cure-all but with soothing relaxing music, and the ability to totally relax, reduced stress does have a beneficial impact on fibro symptoms.</p>
<p>6. Massage stimulates blood flow in aching joints and muscles and the increased blood flow helps reduce fibromyalgia symptoms. This works similar to heating pads but with a deeper relief.</p>
<p>7. Acupuncture. Chinese or Korean acupuncture treats the body as a whole and helps greatly with blood flow. It restores balance to the body as a whole and reduces fibromyalgia symptoms.</p>
<p>Fibromyalgia patients really need to keep a diary or log of their symptoms and to seek out a medical practitioner that is helpful and compassionate.</p>

		<title>Fibromyalgia and You – Manage Your Relationships</title>

<p>What do you say to others when &#034;Fibromyalgia&#034; enters your vocabulary?  Do you share with others that you now have a name for your chronic health issues?  Or, do you keep the label to yourself?  This article is not about defining fibromyalgia as so many articles available do.  Nor, is it a list of answers so you can better manage the pain.  Rather, the question is, what do you do to manage your relationships?  Fibromyalgia, like many other chronic health conditions, stresses the relationships in your life.</p>
<p><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-340" title="lady8" src="http://fibro-myalgia.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/lady8.jpg" alt="lady8" hspace="7" width="243" height="282" />You have three different kinds of relationships.  You have relationships with otherpeople.  You have a relationship with yourself.  You have a relationship with a higher power; the name you have for this higher power depends on the spiritual belief system you choose.  Fibromyalgia exists in all of these relationships.  The relationship you have with yourself is the one in which you have the greatest control.  Depending on your spiritual belief system, varying degrees of control exist in the relationship you have with a higher power.  The relationships you have with others you have what I call influence &#8211; in a healthy relationship you do not control some one else&#039;s behavior. Rather, you have opportunities to shape the kind of relationship and interaction you want.</p>
<p>Interacting with all the people in your life takes energy.  Some people require more of your energy than others.  Some people give you energy.  Managing your energy level is a primary concern when learning how to manage fibromyalgia.  Different entities will recommend various products to help you have more energy.  These products may or may not help and they can be a financial burden.  So, consider the relationships you have with family, friends, and groups of people (such as those you may work with).  Here are some suggestions:</p>
<ul>
<li>List all the different people you interact with in your day.  To keep this idea from being overwhelming, keep a list journal.  At the end of the day, write down the names that you can remember with whom you interacted.</li>
<li>Highlight the people you experienced a positive energy when interacting with them.</li>
<li>Consider ways in which you can detach yourself from those who are more draining.</li>
</ul>
<p>The suggestions above are only the beginning of learning how to manage your relationships with others.  Try this for a minimum of three days.  Consider if this activity helps you think about your interactions with others.  How much time do you spend with others? Who do you seek out to spend time with? Do relationships exist that you may be able to let go of?  Who do you want to share the word &#034;fibromyalgia&#034; with?  After several days, look closely at how you are feeling about these relationships.</p>
<p>So, how do you manage your relationship with your higher power?  Do you become angry?  Do you blame?  Do you run away?  Do you spend more time focused on this particular relationship?  Consider your behaviors.  Here are four things I suggest doing when managing this relationship:</p>
<ul>
<li>Clarify what you really believe.  Go back to the basics or foundations of your spiritual belief system.</li>
<li>Make a decision, really you do have a choice, to use these core ideas to strengthen you or to weaken you.</li>
<li>Seek supporting resources for your spiritual life.  Maybe you know of a spiritual guide or written material that you need to focus your energy upon.</li>
<li>Ask for help when you need it.</li>
</ul>
<p>Some people may say, &#034;I don&#039;t have a relationship with a higher power.&#034;  I disagree.  We are created beings.  Many different beliefs exist as to how we came into being.  This writing is not a debate about which belief system is the correct one.  What is important is that every individual at least acknowledges that a higher power exists.  And, you have some kind of relationship with this higher power, even if it is minimal in your life.</p>
<p>The relationship which affects the outcome of fibromyalgia the greatest is the relationship you have with yourself.  You have the greatest control as to how you respond to the conditions of fibromyalgia.  The medical profession provides options for managing the physical elements of this condition.  As a human being, you have the option of how to interact with fibromyalgia.  Changing the past or pretending that fibromyalgia does not exist are not options.  &#034;IT&#034; has happened.  A name has been given to the symptoms.  Fibromyalgia is now in your vocabulary.  So, what do you do?  Here are my thoughts:</p>
<ul>
<li>Forgive yourself.  Get rid of the statements, &#034;If I only&#8230;&#034;</li>
<li>Listen to your body.  Fibromyalgia is a unique condition.  The medical profession can assist you in managing your health and medical specialists also rely on you to pay attention to the signals and messages your body gives.</li>
<li>Be proactive, not reactive.  In other words, learn all you can about your specific needs so you can make good decisions.</li>
<li>Live.  I don&#039;t know how else to say it.  Live!  Know yourself and live each day, enjoying the moment.</li>
</ul>
<p>I am not a medical specialist.  I am not a psychologist. I am a woman who received the word &#034;fibromyalgia&#034; into her daily vocabulary.  Fibromyalgia never goes away.  It is always with me and that which I have shared are the actions I have consciously taken to manage my relationships.  I am a learner and a certified life coach.  I have learned that working harder to manage life issues is not the answer.  Working smarter is a better way to live.</p>

<p><strong>Pain Relievers for Fibromyalgia</strong></p>
<p>Most doctors will start your fibromyalgia pain relief regimen by recommending that you take an over the counter pain medication.</p>
<p><img class="alignright size-full wp-image-341" title="medicine" src="http://fibro-myalgia.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/medicine.jpg" alt="medicine" width="261" height="355" />The most commonly used over the counter pain medications for fibromyalgia include Tylenol, Ibuprofen, and Aspirin. However, many people find that these over the counter pain relievers are not very effective methods of pain relief for this condition. If this is the case with you, your doctor will probably prescribe you something stronger. They may try a stronger pain reliever like Tramadol or an opioid drug like Morphine or Hydrocodone.</p>
<p><strong>Antidepressants for Fibromyalgia</strong></p>
<p>If you are prescribed an antidepressant for fibromyalgia it may be for your depression, but it may also be used to reduce your painful symptoms. One of the newer drugs that&#039;s showing a lot of promise for treating people with fibromyalgia is called Cymbalta. Fibromyalgia doctors use a number of different antidepressants including Amitriptyline, Pamelor, Doxepin, Prozac, Zoloft, and Effexor, which is similar to Cymbalta. Fibromyalgia is used to reduce pain because the neurotransmitters that are responsible for relaying pain signals also relay mood signals. Naturally, this makes antidepressants useful for depression relief and fibromyalgia pain relief.</p>
<p><strong>Anticonvulsants for Fibromyalgia</strong></p>
<p>It would not be uncommon for your doctor to prescribe you an anticonvulsant rather than an antidepressant like Cymbalta. Fibromyalgia can be treated rather effectively with anticonvulsants like Lyrica. In fact, Lyrica is the only drug that is approved by the Food and Drug administration to treat people living with fibromyalgia. Anticonvulsants work the same way that the depression medications do, by blocking pain signals in the brain. Many people who have taken Lyrica have reported a significant decrease in pain and a notable increase in daily function.</p>
<p><strong>Other Medications and Fibromyalgia</strong></p>
<p>When it comes to treating your condition fibromyalgia pain relief is just part of the process. Most likely your doctor will have to treat other symptoms like sleeping problems and muscle pain or spasms. To treat temporary sleeping problems your doctor will prescribe you a sleep aid like Ambien. To treat your muscle spasms they will prescribe a muscle relaxant like Flexeril to take before bed. Other symptoms will be treated with corresponding medications as necessary. Most likely you will try one of the popular fibromyalgia drugs like Lyrica or Cymbalta. Fibromyalgia doctors often try a combination of different medications and therapies to provide their patients with fibromyalgia pain relief.</p>
<p>Some of the additional therapies that your doctor may recommend would include physical therapy, massage therapy, chiropractic manipulation, acupuncture, counseling, and biofeedback. In most cases your best chance for relief involves you settling on a combination of medicines and non-medicinal therapies. Once you find what works for you and you are routine with it you will find living with fibromyalgia isn&#039;t as difficult as you once thought.</p>

The tendons, soft fibres, ligaments and cartilages are massively affected by fibromyalgia. Pain medicines and antidepressants are often used in treatment. Pain severity, numbers of positive tender points, and pain intensity of tender points and control points did not differentiate the depressed and nondepressed patients. Discriminant analysis revealed that living status, the perception of functional limitations, maladaptive thoughts, and physical therapy treatment together identified diagnoses of depressive disorders for 78% of the patients.</p>
<p>Patients with FM have been found to have decreased concentrations of 5-HT and tryptophan (5-HT precursor) in serum and cerebrospinal fluid. This neurotransmitter is implicated in psychiatric disorders such as depression, anxiety, and obsessive compulsive disorder. Patients with chronic pain are more likely to be depressed, to have thoughts of suicide and to attempt suicide than those without pain. As you might expect, rates of depression are significantly higher among patients with Fibromyalgia Syndrome (FS). Patients with fibromyalgia were 2.14 to 7.05 times more likely to have one or more of the following comorbid conditions: depression, anxiety, headache, irritable bowel syndrome, chronic fatigue syndrome, systemic lupus erythematosus, and rheumatoid arthritis.</p>
<p>Women will be studied during both follicular and luteal phases of the menstrual cycle to test the hypothesis that there will be menstrual cycle-phase related fluctuations in symptoms and HPA axis function. These multidisciplinary studies will provide an understanding of the pathophysiological basis of the relationship of MMD to seemingly disparate conditions such as fibromyalgia and depressive disorders, as well as the higher prevalence in women, leading to a more rational basis for diagnosis and treatment of MMD. Women constituted nearly 75% of the people in the IBS cohort, while about half of the people in the non-IBS cohort were women. The distribution of people in the two cohorts according to age category was nearly identical. Women who are pregnant or nursing should not take Cymbalta and should make their physician aware of any conditions before accepting any type of prescription.</p>
<p>Treating both disorders simultaneously can greatly increase the quality of life and make the symptoms of fibromyalgia more manageable. Treatments that greatly reduce the pain in one patient often have absolutely no effect on another. And the only real way to diagnose it is by process of elimination.</p>
<p>Stress isn?t the only problem that people with fibromyalgia often face. Depression and anxiety are also very common, and they may be problems that you face. Stress or lack of sleep can make the symptoms of fibromyalgia worse. More women than men have fibromyalgia, but the disorder is common&#8211;it is seen in about 5% of the population.</p>
<p>Fibromyalgia is a rheumatic disorder characterized by musculoskeletal pain and tender points. Patients report substantial fatigue. Fibromyalgia is a new name given to an old condition and involving chronic inflammation of the muscles and the fibrous connective tissues that cushion the joints. Fibromyalgia (FM or FMS) is a debilitating chronic syndrome (constellation of signs and symptoms) characterized by diffuse or specific muscle, joint, or bone pain, fatigue, and a wide range of other symptoms. It is not contagious, and recent studies suggest that people with fibromyalgia may be gene .</p>
