Full Blue Lunar Eclipse This New Year’s Eve

Karin says the full blue lunar eclipse riding tonight’s sky means “let go” and Elise
Takes up the chant, so we’ll tumble over hand-in-hand, trying to travel light in spirit,
Into this new year that threatens such great grief but holds such great promise.

Because I would definitely be rocking a few of these science tricks at Janice’s NYE party. Janice, on the other hand, probably feels like she escaped a bullet. [Source: BoingBoing]

Okay last year at this time I told you that evey year had been better than the last since meeting CH and I predicted that 2009 would be even better, the best year of my life.

Man, did I call that one. A publishing deal and an awesome baby? Who could ask for anything more?

Me! That’s who. Much like a corporation, I like to look at record profits and say, “Yeah, we can top that.” Proud to be an American, yo.

Only 4 of the goals on my 10 item resolution list were achieved in 2009, but I love that they were the best four with surprises to boot. The unexpected thrill of the year was CH getting an Emmy nom after the agent, the sci-fi rough draft, the book deal, and the baby all came through.

Also, I really do think I can acheive all of the items on my resolution list this time, so in my yearly tradition of balls-to-the-wall reaching for the stars, here are my 2010 resolutions:

1. Sell enough copies of 32 Candles to make my advance worth it.

2. Write in full my second women’s fiction novel, “The Awesome Girl’s Guide to Dating Extraordinary Men”

3. Write that novel so well, that HarperCollins wouldn’t even think of passing on their first-look deal

4. Finish my sci-fi novel in full, send it out and sell it under a kick-ass pseudonym.

5. Lose 40 pounds.

6. Get pregnant again. IVF gods, please be kind!

7. Go to the Maui Writing Conference

8. Promote the everliving hell out of 32 CANDLES.

9. Stop cursing.

10. Go to Scotland (more on why in a future post)

11. Floss (yes, I know I’ve been attempting to do this for 3 years now, but 2010 will be different … I hope)

Now ya’ll know how I love me some Joan Jett, so m/b no movie would have been good enough for my favorite rock chyck of all time. But this looks really been-there, seen-that. We’ll see…

It’s interesting to hear so many TV pundits calling this the worst decade ever. I feel pretty much the opposite and even my worst memories from the decade are pretty dang awesome from a lesson learned standpoint.

But after reading Honeysmoke’s Decade Breakdown, I decided to do one of my own:

2000: Traveled around the Eastern Hemisphere and decided to come back to the States as opposed to taking another ESL job in Taiwan thanks to an epiphany while walking down the side of a dead volcano in New Zealand. Have refused to hike volcanoes ever since.

2001: Got my first and last freelance newspaper gig for the Pittsburgh City Paper and worked a 9 to 5. Started grad school. Found a really cheap ticket to London for the holidays due to not being afraid to fly after 9-11.

2002: Got a screenplay optioned and dropped. Bought my first mac with the money from that deal.

2003: Moved to LA with my mac and commenced to starve in a dead-end 9 to 5 sort of way. Moved in with first super-serious boyfriend.

2004: Got dumped by live-in BF over the phone. Only got paid (very little) for the restaurant reviews I wrote for AOL Citysearch. Started dating again.

2005: Started last 9 to 5. Bought my first big-girl car. Wrote a moderately successful play called GROWN-UPS ON THE PLAYGROUND about God, sex, broken dreams, and the BF who broke up with me over the phone. Was paid zero money for writing for the entire year. Decided to stop dating for 3 months. Then after that decided to move to Chicago to pursue playwriting and a decent job that didn’t make me want to slit my wrists. Was asked out by CH on the very same day. Started novel as a National Novel Writing Month initiative. Man, did I not make that deadline.

2006: Moved in with CH, but saved up enough money to move out if things went south. Quit my last 9 to 5. CH asked me to marry him two weeks later, landed my first full time writing gig two weeks later.

2007: Used my “moving out” fund to pay off all of my bad debt. Got married and promoted. Got serious about finishing my novel.

2008: Fertility issues became evident. Quit my stressful job, found out that we’d need IVF a few weeks later. Started Fierce and Nerdy anyway. IVF worked, but savings seriously depleted with me only working part time. Finally finished my novel.

2009: Come back tomorrow for that tale. Meanwhile I would love to see your decade breakdowns in the comments.

….But I’m just feeling sorta meh about this new Robin Hood trailer. I can’t really understand what’s going on, and I could have sworn that Russell Crowe was supposed to be the Sheriff of Nottingham. Is this a remix w/ the Notty as the hero? Anyways, click on the pic to watch the trailer.

For years I defended the superiority of Twizzlers to Red Vines, due to fond memories of eating Twizzlers aplenty during my Midwestern upbringing. But I settled for Red Vines when I went to the movies in LA, b/c for whatever reason, movies out here only stock Red Vines.

However, the last few times I’ve had a choice of either/or I’ve chosen Red Vines. Some time in the last 4 years, Twizzlers started tasting like plastic to me. They’ve lost their magic. I don’t know why.

But how about you guys? Twizzlers or Red Vines?
