A couple of days ago, I reported that roid-fiend Jose Canseco called out Herschel Walker. Earlier today on BobandDan.com, Herschel had this to say:

“Canseco wanted to fight me, and what’s strange about it is that what I do is not a circus, not going in there playing trying to make money. My money went to Pastor Evans at Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship. All my proceeds went there. I didn’t get into this to make money, I got into it for the competition. Jose is doing this for the money and my thing is, if he wants to fight me and thinks it’s going to be a circus, I will hurt him. This is not a joke, I will hurt him. I don’t do things as a joke [or] as entertainment. When we go out there and play a flag football game, that’s entertainment, that’s having fun. But this MMA fighting is real, you can get hurt and he doesn’t understand this. I’m doing this as a fighter, not as a joke.”

Do you think that Herschel would beat Jose Canseco?

I assume that Jose is calling out Herschel after he TKO’d Greg Nagy in his MMA debut. Yes, Herschel is 47. Yes, Herschel proved us all wrong. But he still has time to prove us right. But it would be a spark interest from the mainstream media. And that is what it comes down to. SHOW ME THE MONEY!!

I personally think Jose would get beat worse than he did with Hong Man Choi. And I hope Strikeforce doesn’t call.

It’s been a while since I’ve written anything, but I thought I would start back things by talking about the New York Jets’ coach Rex Ryan appearing at the Strikeforce Miami event this past weekend.

A reader emailed The Miami Herald a picture of Rex Ryan flipping off some fans. According to the email, the recipients of Rex’s middle finger identified themselves as Miami Dolphins fans. Let me think, a few bottles of beer and then you see your football team’s rival head coach.. yeah, those fans probably deserved the finger.

Either way, Rex officially apologized and so did the general manager for the Jets.

“I wouldn’t accept that type of behavior from one of the coaches or players, and it’s unacceptable from me,” Ryan said of the incident, which reportedly occurred Saturday night at a mixed martial-arts event in Miami. “I apologize to the Jets organization, the National Football League and NFL fans everywhere.” – Rex Ryan

“Rex showed extremely poor judgment and his conduct was inappropriate. He knows he was wrong, has apologized, and we have accepted his apology. Any other actions regarding this incident will be addressed internally by the organization.” – Mike Tannenbaum

You can mark this down as just another reason why I love Rex Ryan.

Chuck Liddell is back in the gym after his reality television stint on Dancing With The Stars. According to his chat with Sherdog Radio Network’s “Savage Dog Show”, “The Iceman” still wants to fight in the UFC even after getting knocked out in his last two fights.

“We’re still talking, so we’ll see. I still love fighting. I don’t know what we’re going to come up with. I’m going to start spending a lot of time training guys or get back in there –- one of the two”

After being knocked out by “Shogun” Rua, UFC president Dana White, who is also Liddell’s former manager, came into the Octagon and announced Liddell’s retirement. We haven’t seen or heard anything about him except for his Dancing competition.

Chuck Liddell

While Liddell, 39, has expressed disinterest in fighting Internet sensation Kimbo Slice, he has gone on the record to say he’ll fight Slice if that is what it takes for him to step back into the Octagon.

“Why would anyone even want to see me fight Kimbo?” asked Liddell. “I have no interest in that fight. Whatever. It is what it is. I guess I’d do it, if that’s who I had to fight to come back.”

There still is no certanty even if “The Iceman” will return to the UFC. He has stated that it will depend on how he feels in the gym before he, Joe Silva, or Dana White make a decision.

“Who would have thought the WWE champion would be the UFC champion? You never know what can happen in the fight game. I’d love to see it happen, it’s a long shot but I’d love to see it.”

The above quote is from UFC Lightweight Champion BJ Penn when the champion was speaking with the The Sun (based out of the UK). Essentially, it’ll happen. Why would it not? It’s pretty well understood that Dana White likes to create fights that will make him, his organization, and his parenting company a lot of money.

While, I’m not a Brock Lesnar fan, I do respect and understand Dana White’s reasons for creating Lesnar into a household name. Lesnar brings in the money and, as much as I hate to say it, he is actually gaining some skill — besides his size — to defend his title.

Lesnar inspires hope. As does Kimbo. Kimbo inspires us because he would be another “rags-to-riches” type of story. I could root for Kimbo as the UFC Heavyweight Champion. In fact, I endorse Kimbo Slice for a shot at the belt. Not that anything I say has any effect on what is going to happen as I am not even considered a piss-ant in the MMA world, but you get my idea.

If Kimbo garners the skill developed on his appearance with The Ultimate Fighter: Heavywieghts and his training with Florida’s American Top Team, Kimbo could be deadly. We have already seen his deadly striking through YouTube videos and even during his stint with EliteXC.

And besides, I can root for Kimbo just because I don’t like Lesnar as champ.

Sports, Dana White had this to say after being asked if WEC fighters would lose their edge if moved to a bigger cage like the UFC’s.

“Actually, we’ve been talking about making the Octagon smaller. We’re considering making it smaller. [UFC matchmaker] Joe Silva wants it. I think he wants to turn the thing into a [expletive] bathtub. Have them fight in a little tollbooth,” said Dana White.

What do you, the reader, think of this idea? Would it be a good move or a bad move? Personally, from a fighter’s view-point, I think it would mix it up and make more things interesting and a lot more entertaining in the UFC.

A smaller Octagon would create a lot more ground-game in fights. The smaller the Octagon means less room to distance yourself from your opponent. Less room to move around and get away when your gassed. Less room and less viewpoints to notice weaknesses and advantages.

What do you think?

Former UFC vet and The Ultimate Fighter season 4 winner Travis Lutter achieves his first win against Jason MacDonald unanimously decided by the Maximum Fighting Championship judges. This marks his first professional win since being cut by the UFC after losing to both Rich Franklin and Anderson Silva.

Most remember Travis Lutter for one of two reasons, if not both: winning TUF season 4 by defeating Patrick Cote by submission and/or not making weight in what should have been his Middleweight championship fight against Silva.

Not making weight for a title fight? Probably one of the biggest sins that you can make in the UFC or in MMA, period. The fans will hate you, and what is even worse is that Dana White will probably not be a happy camper.

Do you see Dana's face?

Now Lutter fights in small promotions. It’s been 18 months since Lutter has fought and he scored, what I think, is a big win against MacDonald. Lutter is 36 years old, and really doesn’t have that much long left to make something out of his MMA career if this is what he wants to do. If not, no big deal. He has his successful Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gym in Fort Worth, Texas.

This is kind of a long blog for me. Mainly because I like the guy. He’s from around my area, and I know people who have nothing bad to say about the guy personally. So I root for him.

Joe Silva told Jason MacDonald, who is also a UFC vet, that if he scored a couple wins on his record then the UFC would open their doors back to him. I don’t see why they cannot do the same for Lutter. I mean, he is the only TUF winner to be let go from his UFC contract. But he’s also the only one that failed to make weight for a championship fight.

What is next for Lutter? Does he keep competing in the MFC? I think he has the ability to make it in a larger organization. Strikeforce or WEC, anyone? And maybe if he wants back in the UFC, this is his best option. Strikeforce is now on Showtime and CBS. That is huge publicity for him. Especially for new fans or broke-ass fans who can’t afford UFC PPVs.

I could probably interview Roy Nelson if I really wanted to, but I know I would criticize him for his actions on and off the mat when it comes down to his fight with Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson on last week’s episode of TUF: Heavyweights.

Since beating Kimbo in the second round due to a TKO of strikes and basically smothering Kimbo (could we legally claim this as attempted murder?), Nelson has been all talk. Even Dana White has commented on the fact that Nelson thinks he did something greater than what actually took place.

“I was watching the video, and I kind of ‘Babe Ruthed’ it. I just called my shot and did it. I did what I wanted,” said Roy Nelson during his interview with MMAjunkie.com Radio.

I’m pretty sure Nelson is referencing the Babe when he became a fat alcoholic slob. Not in his prime. Right? RIGHT? Ugh.

“But then, the second round was more of a point like, ‘Herb, I can do this all day long.’ Herb, I think was afraid to lose his job the way he kept looking at me in the first round,” Nelson also said.

No, I’m pretty sure he was asking himself “what the fuck am I doing?” Now, Roy, don’t hate me because I think you’re a great fighter. But you showed major weakness in your Brazilian JJ. I honestly don’t see why Herb Dean didn’t stand you guys up. I’m sure Herb doesn’t even know why he didn’t.

At the end of the day, Nelson won because he positioned his gut on Kimbo’s face and gave him 44 shots to the head (which weren’t devestating to say the least). Herb stopped the fight for two reasons. One, you did that at the end of round one and Kimbo couldn’t get you off of him. (Roll your hips, Kimbo!) And two, you went for the same gameplan in round two. And Kimbo obviously wasn’t going to get an advantage on your position and you were in no way thinking about transitioning to a better position.

And Kimbo, work on your ground game!
