This news officially broke on Friday, but I think it’s still worth a mention: Seal has a last name and Heidi Klum has legally filed to take it.

OK, maybe I shouldn’t deliver the news in the order that it registers in my brain. Let’s try again: Heidi Klum, who has been hitched to the singer known only as “Seal” for over four years has never officially taken his last name. Now, I would assume that the delay in taking her hubby’s name was due to the fact that she didn’t even realize he has one (he does. It’s Samuel.), but Heidi claimed on her paperwork that there was only one reason she was changing her name: “Marriage.”

Perhaps she didn’t want to get all personal on her public court documents, but I’m thinking that her legally taking on his last name has to do with a few things: a renewed commitment to their marriage, a celebration of their newest child, and hell, maybe there’s even something having to do with a joint checking account involved.

Heidi’s rep did not comment on whether or not the model would be taking on “Samuel” as her professional name as well, but I’m guessing she’s going to stick with Klum when it comes down to the Project Runway credits.

Well, that New Moon crap opened up this weekend and everyone’s seeing it/talking about it/talking about seeing it. I sat with a group of 20-somethings over a business brunch just an hour or so ago and all we talked about is mother freaking vampires and I’m just sitting there like “Did anyone have sex this weekend? Where’s my bacon? Are there any movies out without fantastical creatures in them, because I’m about to kill myself if I have to hear one more word about werewolves and vampires. Seriously. You see this butter knife? I am a woman on the edge. I could cause some serious damage, you guys.”

There’s an US Weekly headline up right now that says the following: “New Moon Has Third-Biggest Opening Weekend in Film History”. That’s supposed to be impressive and show all of us what a hugely popular franchise it is, I suppose. Maybe it really is just that popular. But here’s a fun tip: That movie played in every theater in America this weekend, and the number of screens a movie plays on is a huge factor in how much it brings in at the box office. Any time a movie “like this” comes out it sets records because if you live in Bumbleboo, Indiana, that’s the only movie that’s out in your theater right now.

Perhaps it’s just my complete and utter hatred for all things fantasy that’s making me want to blow away the smoke and smash the mirrors, but I’m hearing this movie sucks. I can’t believe that I’m going to have to hear about Twilight and Twilight-related things for the next year or two of my life. Harry Potter? He was fine. I’ll take Harry. Delightful boy.

I will tell you this, though: I, much like Sasha, would kidnap that 17 year old Taylor Lautner and keep him in my apartment until he is of legal age for me to do terrible things to him.

Last night CNN hosted their Heroes 2009 gala and just about everyone you could think of was in attendance. In fact, it’s easier to think of who wasn’t there than who was there. Britney, Paris, Lindsay… I guess they must be totally over because they were no shows. What about our tampon-tease Tila? Where was she? Surely she is a hero of sorts. Who did make it? The Rock, Carrie Underwood, AnnaLynne McCord who seems to be absolutely everywhere these days. Debi Mazar was there, looking fierce as hell per usual.

Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz kept their baby Bronx alive for an entire year and yesterday they celebrated their glorious achievement by throwing their little boy a Sponge Bob themed birthday party.

You’d think that they’d do something Jungle Book related because the two are so obsessed with the Kipling book-turned Disney Classic that they got their son’s middle name from the main character (Mowgli– ew.), but they went with the Square Pants thing per the babies (kind of) request. “[Bronx] likes Bob and he likes guitar – which he calls ‘itar,’ so we’re going to have a SpongeBob party for him,” Pete told People. I would think that’d mean a Bob Marley themed birthday party, but I guess “special cake” would be lost on a one year old. Or kill him. I’m not suggesting people give their kids cake laced with marijuana, I’m just sayin’.

Perhaps my favorite part of this story is the nearly illiterate Tweets by the Simpson sisters made to commemorate the special day:

From Ashlee: “BX’s 1st bday tomorrow! My angel is going to be a year!! The greatest year of my life :)”

And Jessica: “Happy Birthday to my precious angel on earth!!! Bronx is 1 today!! I LOVE HIM SO MUCH!!! I can’t believe it has been a year already.”

I’m going to be really sad when I have to write up a post next summer about how that poor baby got napped from Joe and Tina Simpson’s backyard by a coyote.

Three of my faves, Beck, Devendra Banhart and MGMT have gotten together on this track “Video Master”, which is about as perfect as a song gets for me. The video is cool too, but if you like any one of these bands sounds, imagine it melded together and blown up with two other amazing bands. I know, I know, that sentence was unintelligible, but you have to understand that I can barely even wrap my head around how rad this song is. I mean, this is why I can forgive Beck for being a Scientologist. It’s because of stuff like this.

Excuse me, I have to go have a dance party.

Jon and Kate Gosselin finally got together today… for an arbitration meeting. Yeah. They’ll definitely never be getting back together. Jon Gosselin, I am pretty sure, is on something. He showed up, smoked a cig, flashed off the copy of GQ he was reading for the paps and took an interview with Entertainment Tonight. Kate, who seems to have done something about “the hair”, kept to herself, looked professional and ready to get this whole ordeal settled. If there was anyone left on Team Jon, check out these pictures. (Oh, and some really good news? The divorce could be finalized by the end of the year. What a present for those eight kids.)

My favorite lesbians, Tegan and Sara have just launched their own web show called “Reflections” and this first episode picks up when the band has just arrived in Sweden. Even if you’re not a fan of the band, take a gander. Backstage life of a touring rock band is always interesting, but in when you factor in that these ladies are bilingual, gorgeous and spunky, well then you might just have found yourself a favorite new band and/or time killer.

Toddler and fashion plate Suri Cruise was skipping around NYC yesterday in a pair of heels like Carrie Goddamn Bradshaw, which is only more evidence that this little girl is secretly a 20-something woman. The clothes, the heels, the way she works a camera. I’m telling you, Suri Cruise has more game than most of the women I know. That heel may only be an inch, but I don’t think I rocked anything like that until I was at least fourteen, and even then I wobbled my way up on stage to accept my diploma at my eighth grade graduation. She even looks like she’s got her Naomi Campbell walk down in that photo above.

Readers, I present to you a challenge: find me a photo in which Suri Cruise looks closer to a toddler than a fierce fashionista and I will give you a gold star and a thumbs up.

While it would be lovely to sip a glass of champagne on your wedding night with your new husband, shouldn’t the rehabbed daughter of Ozzy be less worried about being able to get legally trashed with her husband at their wedding and more worried about settling in to a life-long relationship with someone who’s still a teenager?

Joseph Gordon-Levitt was on Jimmy Fallon last night to promote his hosting gig on SNL tonight and ohhhhhh boy do I have a crush on this man. He spends the first minute of his interview praising the house band, The Roots and goes on to tell them that they are the whole reason why he listens to hip hop music. I don’t know what it is about this kid, maybe just the fact that he’s so handsome and seems so entirely psyched on life, but I probably kind of sort of think I need to marry him. Also, as he says in the interview, his SNL monologue tonight sounds like one not to be missed, so gear up your DVRs or get ready to tune in on Hulu Sunday because I think he may just top Drew Barrymoore and Taylor Swifts already exceptional opening bits on the show.

Courteney Cox has been doing a bang-up job on her show Cougar Town from what I’ve heard, but today the news was released that the former Friends star needs to take a break from filming to tend to some private business.

A rep from ABC said today, “We can confirm production on Cougar Town has been temporarily shut down in order for Courteney to deal with a private family matter.”

While I do hope everything is alright with the Cox-Arquette clan, I will be really pissed if this “private family matter” turns out to be that David’s run out of plaid pants to embarrass himself in. Here’s hoping that the family, especially their daughter CoCo, are alright.
