Çağdaş efsaneler yazarı ve edebiyat ustası Cormac McCarthy, "No Country For Old Men" adlı kitabını 2003 yılında yayımlayınca kadar hızla değişen derin Amerika öyküleriyle tanınıyordu. Daha önceki kitaplarıyla aynı çizgide çok katmanlı çağdaş öykülerinden birisi olan "No Country For Old Men" yayınlandığı anda büyük başarı kazandı. McCarthy'den daha önce yönetmen Billy Bob Thornton "All The Pretty Horses" adındaki roman uyarlamasını gerçekleştirmiş ve filmde Matt Damon, Penelope Cruz, Henry Thomas ve Sam Shepard başrolleri paylaşmışlardı. McCarthy'nin soluk soluğa okunan heyecan ve gerilim yüklü kitabında, Teksas sınırında 2.4 milyon dolar nakit para bulunca acımasız ve ölümcül bir takibin hedefi haline gelen dürüst bir adamın öyküsü anlatılır. Bu kitap aynı zamanda eski zamanlardaki mistik öncülerin yaşadıklarına kıyasla artık çok daha şiddet yüklü ve kanunsuz bir yer haline gelen çağdaş Batı'daki iyi ve kötü kavramları üzerine kışkırtıcı bir meditasyon işlevi görür. Anlatılan öykünün odak noktasında McCarthy'nin bugüne kadar yazdığı 10 romanında keşfe çıktığı ve birer McCarthy klasiği haline gelen en davetkar temalarından bir kısmı vardır: Batı tarzı yaşamın hızla yaklaşan sonu; paramparça olmuş bir dünyaya karşı mücadele veren onur ve adalet gibi kavramların son çırpınışları; insanoğlunun kötülüğe karşı vermeye çalıştığı mücadele; günümüzün kara mizahı ve şiddet dolu ortamı; şeytana uyma, baştan çıkma, hayatta kalma, gözden çıkartma, feda etme gibi kavramların karşılıklı etkileşimi… Bunların üstüne de bir tutam kalıcı sevgi ve karanlıkta bir umut ışığı karışımı… McCarthy'nin yarattığı kompleks / karmaşık karakterler ve sembolik temalar, "No Country For Old Men"de öylesine geniş kapsamlıydı ki, kitap sayfalarının gücünü çarpıcı görüntülere ve ilginç diyaloglara dönüştürecek yönetmenin de en az McCarthy kadar zengin bir hayal gücüne ve dehaya sahip olması gerekiyordu. McCarthy'nin kaleme aldığı karakterlerin gizemli zekasını ve hümanizmini beyazperdeye aktarmak için Amerikan sinemasının iki gözde yönetmeni Joel ve Ethan Coen kardeşlerden daha iyisi hayal edilemezdi. No Country For Old Men - Trailer Yönetmenliğe kara mizah klasiği "Blood Simple" ile başlayan, ardından "Raising Arizona", "Miller's Crossing", "Barton Fink", Oscar ödüllü "Fargo", "The Man Who Wasn't There" ve "O Brother Where Art Thou?" gibi en yaratıcı sinema ürünlerini hayata geçiren Joel ve Ethan Coen, "No Country For Old Men"de kendilerine özgü karmaşık, nüanslara dayalı, çok katmanlı ve kimi zaman mizah yüklü vizyonlarını McCarthy'nin vizyonuyla birleştirdiler. He grudgingly accepts, under the condition that he is promoted to the position of editor. When the government investigates, the two are forced to spend the weekend with his parents in Alaska in order to sell the lie. The family suggest they could marry the same weekend, and they reluctantly accept. They start to fall genuinely in love as they spend more and more time together. Because of this, during the wedding ceremony, Margaret decides she cannot do this to Andrew and confesses the business arrangement in front of everyone--including the immigration officer handling their case. She is then told that she has 24 hours to get back to Canada, and thus goes back to New York to pack her things.
