<p>Last year, Super Monkey Ball for the iPhone and iPod Touch was a major launch title for the App Store.  Millions of copies were sold! Now, the new and improved Super Monkey Ball 2 has finally arrived.  Like what we’ve <a href="http://www.theappsmachine.com/cool-iphone-games/super-monkey-ball-2-soon-to-hit-the-app-store-in-time-for-the-holidays/" >told you</a> before, Super Monkey Ball 2 will feature new levels, greatly enhanced and tweaked control for accuracy, local Wi-Fi multi-player, and new mini-games!</p>
<p>Super Monkey Ball 2 should bring back fond memories of our favorite tilt-based, accelerator-controlled  monkey rolling action.  As expected, it is priced at $9.99.  So what are you waiting for?  <a href="http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/stat?id=EKCeWUq*Klg&#038;offerid=146261&#038;type=3&#038;subid=0&#038;tmpid=1826&#038;RD_PARM1=http%253A%252F%252Fitunes.apple.com%252Fus%252Fapp%252Fsuper-monkey-ball-2%252Fid340056794%253Fmt%253D8%2526uo%253D6%2526partnerId%253D30" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outbound/article/click.linksynergy.com');">Download</a> it today!</p>

<p>Tweetie 2 <a href="http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/stat?id=EKCeWUq*Klg&amp;offerid=146261&amp;type=3&amp;subid=0&amp;tmpid=1826&amp;RD_PARM1=http%253A%252F%252Fitunes.apple.com%252Fus%252Fapp%252Ftweetie-2%252Fid333903271%253Fmt%253D8%2526uo%253D6%2526partnerId%253D30" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outbound/article/click.linksynergy.com');">(iTunes Link)</a> is one of the most popular Twitter apps on the iPhone.&#160; With new features such as lists and retweets recently introduced by Twitter, it is only natural to expect iPhone Twitter app updates to include these features.&#160; But not this fast!&#160; It seems only 2 weeks ago that Twitter fully launched their new “lists” and “retweet” feature.&#160; Twitter lists allow users to group other twitter users into a list for easy management.&#160; The retweet feature is inspired from current retweeting&#160; habits and conventions such that users will hear valuable information within the Twitter community.&#160;&#160; </p>
<p><a href="http://www.theappsmachine.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/geotag2-tweetie2-iphone.jpg" ><img src="http://www.theappsmachine.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/geotag2-tweetie2-iphone-200x300.jpg" alt="geotag2-tweetie2-iphone" title="geotag2-tweetie2-iphone" width="200" height="300" class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1736" /></a><a href="http://www.theappsmachine.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/list-tweetie2.jpg" ><img src="http://www.theappsmachine.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/list-tweetie2-200x300.jpg" alt="list-tweetie2" title="list-tweetie2" width="200" height="300" class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1737" /></a></p>
<p>Tweetie 2.1 incorporates the “lists” and “retweet” feature.&#160; Geotagging is also enabled.&#160; Now everyone can know where you are tweeting from.&#160; Just tap the geotagging icon when writing a new tweet.&#160; Wait for a while until a red antenna icon appears.&#160; Then, send your tweet and your tweeting location will be unveiled.&#160; </p>
<p><a href="http://www.theappsmachine.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/retweet-tweetie2.jpg" ><img src="http://www.theappsmachine.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/retweet-tweetie2-200x300.jpg" alt="retweet-tweetie2" title="retweet-tweetie2" width="200" height="300" class="alignright size-medium wp-image-1738" /></a></p>
<p>At the bottom navigation bar, Twitter lists can be accessed when tapping the “(…)” icon.&#160; View, manage and add new lists right on your iPhone!&#160; The @ button on the bottom navigation bar will allow users to check their mentions.&#160; See who have retweeted your post!&#160; The new twitter styled re-tweets will get a small pink corner icon on the top right of the dialog box.&#160; When looking at another person’s tweets, users can also chose to retweet, quote retweet (old-styled retweets), post link to tweet, email your tweet, or translate the tweet.&#160;&#160; </p>
<p>There are also other new features included in this update.&#160; Users can report spam, make a torn gap in their timeline with the tweet-stream “gap” detection feature,&#160; disabling pin-stripes, and other user interface enhancements.&#160; </p>
<p>It is nice to see Tweetie 2 is bringing these new Tweeter features to their iPhone app so quickly.&#160; But with these additions, the current users must be wondering..&#160; Whatever happened to Twitter push notifications?&#160; It is still surprisingly lacking in this update.&#160; I am currently using IM+ Messenger <a href="http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/stat?id=EKCeWUq*Klg&amp;offerid=146261&amp;type=3&amp;subid=0&amp;tmpid=1826&amp;RD_PARM1=http%253A%252F%252Fitunes.apple.com%252Fus%252Fapp%252Fim%252Fid296246130%253Fmt%253D8%2526uo%253D6%2526partnerId%253D30" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outbound/article/click.linksynergy.com');">(iTunes Link)</a> to get tweets as well as instant messages from major IM platforms via push notification.&#160;&#160; Thus if users want to get the best tweeting experience on their iPhone, at least for now, they need to use a combination of the award winning user interface of Tweetie 2 and another push-enabled Twitter client such as IM+.</p>

<p>It appears someone has been testing an unreleased next gen iPhone in San Francisco.  The new iPhone was caught using the <em>iBart</em> app.</p>
<p><em>iBart</em> is a mass transit application for the BART rail system in the San Francisco Bay area.   iBart developers, using analytics software on their app, was able to detect a new iDevice that identifies itself as &#8220;iPhone 3,1.&#8221;</p>
<p>Apple&#8217;s newest generation iPhone, the 3GS, identifies itself as &#8220;iPhone2,1.  Thus it is safe to assume that &#8220;iPhone 3,1&#8243; refers to the 4th generation iPhone.<br />
But don&#8217;t get your hopes up for an early next generation iPhone release though.  Last November in 2008, the 3GS model was also spotted online.  It was launched during the summer of 2009.</p>
<p>For now, we could only envy that person who gets to test the next generation iPhone while we count the days until the 4G iPhone is launched.</p>

South Korea has to be one of the last industrialized Asian country to get the iPhone. But despite its late entry, South Korea greeted the iPhone launch with excitement as pre-orders approach 65,000 units. </p>
<p>65,000 preordered units is huge when considering that S Korea have only sold about 400,000 LG and Samsung smart phones to date. Of course, the iPhone may change that number really quickly as Apple has been known to convert non-smart phone users into iPhone owners. Considering the fact that South Korea has some 47 million cell phone users, Apple has a good chance to greatly change and perhaps even dominate the cell phone market in S Korea.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.theappsmachine.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/iphone-launch-korea.jpg" ><img src="http://www.theappsmachine.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/iphone-launch-korea.jpg" alt="iphone-launch-korea" title="iphone-launch-korea" width="399" height="539" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1681" /></a></p>
<p>It took Korea so long to get the iPhone because of a government policy that protects local handset makers. In April, South Korea lifted a rule that forced mobile phones sold locally to use a home-grown platform, opening the market to more foreign models. Prior to the change, major cell phone makers such as Motorola, Nokia, and Sony Ericsson, as well as Apple, has largely avoided the Korean market due to this rule. </p>
<p>Apple’s entry price to South Korea isn’t too bad. A 32 GB iPhone 3GS sold by KT corp, selling for $317 on a $38 per month two-year contract and free with a $112/month contract is a relative bargain. As a response to Apple’s entrenchment into its homeland, Samsung has been reported to lowered prices on some models in what looks like the start of a smartphone price war. </p>
<p>South Korea is looking to be a major money maker for Apple. But South Korean consumers will be the real winners as they enjoy the superior user interface and web applications the iPhone has to offer. </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p align="center"><a href="http://www.theappsmachine.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/microsoft-silverlight1.jpg" ><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1662" title="microsoft-silverlight1" src="http://www.theappsmachine.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/microsoft-silverlight1.jpg" alt="microsoft-silverlight1" width="432" height="324" /></a></p>
<p>A Microsoft manager revealed and demonstrated Silverlight video streaming on the iPhone this week.  He admitted that Microsoft “worked with Apple” to bring Silverlight’s media experience to the iPhone.  This is a stark contrast to Apple’s stance over Adobe’s Flash, in which Apple is the only major smart phone company that refuses to integrate Flash content into its mobile browser.</p>
<p>Silverlight, though capable of running full web applications, is often used to run video streams.  It is the main engine that powers Netflix’s on-demand movie platform.  To bring Silverlight to the iPhone, Silverlight communicates a QuickTime request to the IIS server when encountering HTML 5’s&lt;video&gt; tag  , which then decodes the MPEG-2 v8 file dynamically and starts streaming video to the iPhone.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.theappsmachine.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/silverlightiphone.jpg" ><img class="size-full wp-image-1665 aligncenter" title="silverlightiphone" src="http://www.theappsmachine.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/silverlightiphone.jpg" alt="silverlightiphone" width="400" height="300" /></a></p>
<p>This concept is similar to how YouTube currently works on the iPhone.  Silverlight on the iPhone could probably be another app that is installed on the iPhone.  When a user clicks on a Silverlight video link, it would be directed to the Silverlight app.  That would also be the reason Silverlight video streaming technology could be allowed on the iPhone.  As a separate media player, Silverlight would not interfere with the business on the App Store. Thus, for those who wish to run web apps on Silverlight technology, do not expect that Apple will allow such a feature to exist on the iPhone.</p>
<p>Silverlight technology on the iPhone could open a new chapter of streaming content delivery on the iPhone.  After all, Silverlight is known for delivering quality streaming videos, partially attributed to its GPU acceleration capabilities.  With Silverlight, Netflix, or other quality movie streaming services on the iPhone may just be moments away.</p>

<p>The original <a href="http://www.theappsmachine.com/iphone-news-and-rumors/first-iphone-worm-appears-infects-jailbroken-iphones/" target="_blank">Rickrolls worm</a> author, Australian Ashley Towns, after receiving death threats and hate mails for the chaos he’s caused in the iPhone jailbreaking community, has announced on his <a href="http://twitter.com/ikeeex" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outbound/article/twitter.com');" target="_blank">twitter post</a> (currently protected) that he has gotten a job at <a href="http://mogeneration.com/" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outbound/article/mogeneration.com');" target="_blank">Mogeneration</a>.&#160; Mogeneration is&#160; a company that develops iPhone apps for clients.&#160; </p>
<p>Apparently, Towns’ venture into iPhone hacking has garnered him some fame.&#160; However, many people, including security experts at Sophos do not believe his work to exploit iPhone security should be awarded.&#160; From <a href="http://www.sophos.com/blogs/gc/g/2009/11/26/ikee-worm-author-job-iphone-app-firm" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outbound/article/www.sophos.com');" target="_blank">Sopho’s blog</a>:</p>
<blockquote><p>“Don’t get me wrong – I don’t think virus writers shouldn’t be allowed to rehabilitate and do something worthwhile with their lives. But it jars with me that Towns has shown no regret for what he did, and that now his utterly irresponsible behaviour appears to have been rewarded. Will Towns be offering a token $5 compensation to all those he infected for the inconvenience he caused? I doubt it.”&#160; </p>
</blockquote>
<p>Towns has set a bad example for would-be iPhone hackers.&#160; His actions should not have been rewarded.&#160; Instead his decision to release a worm to the entire world may cause others to follow suit. He should have held a demonstration to prove that he can exploit the vulnerability of a jailbroken iPhone, instead of releasing it into the wild.&#160; Now, innocent (or should we say careless) jailbroken iPhone users may get their identity stolen by the really bad guys that want to steal your money.&#160; The malicious <a href="http://www.theappsmachine.com/iphone-news-and-rumors/new-malicious-worm-steal-bank-information-on-jailbroken-iphones-apple-we-told-you-not-to-jailbreak/" target="_blank">bank-account-stealing worm</a> modified from the original Rickrolls worm is just the most recent example.</p>
<p>Hiring an infamous iPhone hacker may be good for the development team.&#160; But I wonder how Mogeneration’s public image will be affected.&#160; Will Mogeneration get more business or less business as a result of hiring Towns?&#160; Who knows?&#160; But one thing is for sure, Mogeneration will have to deal with the public’s contempt for rewarding a hacker that has made jailbreaking much dangerous than before.&#160; </p>

<p>Why have another person judge your looks when an iPhone program can do this difficult job with some complicated mathematical formula?  Nashy’s “<em><a href="http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/fit-or-fugly/id334463754?mt=8" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outbound/article/itunes.apple.com');">Fit or Fugly</a></em>” app uses the Fibonacci Golden Ratio principle to determine if someone is attractive or not.  This scientific calculation is based on symmetries via key anchor points on a human face.</p>
<p>To use this app, simply use a picture on your iPhone’s photo album.  Pick a gender.  Adjust the picture to fit the face template.  You can zoom in, out, rotate left or right to try to make the face template match with the face of the person in the picture.  Next, you need to move the anchor points of eyes, ears, nose, mouth, and chin to the exact spot.  These anchor points will determine how well the face matchs the Fibonacci’s Golden Ratio.  Thus it is important to get them right.  After the anchor points are set, the iPhone app will tell you if it thinks you are “Fit” or “Fugly.”</p>
<p align="center"><a href="http://www.theappsmachine.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/fitorfugly.jpg" ><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1639" title="fitorfugly" src="http://www.theappsmachine.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/fitorfugly.jpg" alt="fitorfugly" width="391" height="195" /></a></p>
<p>Your result may surprise you.  But if you get a “Fugly” result, don’t panic, make sure that your face is symmetrical in the picture.  And make sure the anchor points are set exactly where they are supposed to be.</p>
<p><em>Fit or Fugly</em> needs some improvements in facial recognition.  Most of the time the app does not automatically set the anchor points of facial features correctly.   It requires the users to set them right correctly.  When manipulating those anchor points, these points are difficult to set with the current control scheme.  Perhaps the developer should make the anchor points higher so that users can set them at exactly where they are supposed to be.</p>
<p>Despite some difficulties with anchor point controls, the <em>Fit or Fugly</em> app is really fun to try on your friends.  It is a great way to tell your friend that they are ugly… or not.</p>

<p>Earlier this month, the wallpaper changing<a href="http://www.theappsmachine.com/iphone-news-and-rumors/first-iphone-worm-appears-infects-jailbroken-iphones/" > ikee worm</a> sparked a concern that bad guys will inevitably use the SSH vulnerability to do something bad with your stolen personal information.  This week the inevitable has occurred.  Jailbroken iPhone users in the Netherlands may have their bank information stolen as they login from their infected iPhones.  The worm throws up a purported ING login page.  Once the hackers get the bank details they can theoretically steal the money in the bank account.</p>
<p>Currently this situation is isolated in the Netherlands.  Paul Ducklin, head of technology in Sophos Asia Pacific, reported that this malicious worm can even change the default password to &#8220;ohshit&#8221; on the SSH, and thus creating a problem for infected iPhone users as they attempt to remove the worm.  The worm can also infect other vulnerable jailbroken iPhones on the same Wi-Fi network.  It is also reported this latest malicious worm connects to a web based command and control center in Lithuania.</p>
<p>Apple spokesperson Natalie Harrison <a href="http://www.loopinsight.com/2009/11/23/apple-responds-to-reports-of-new-iphone-worm/" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outbound/article/www.loopinsight.com');" target="_blank">responds</a> on The Loop,</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;The worm affects only a very specific set of iPhone users who have jail broken their iPhones and hacked it with unauthorized software. As we’ve said before, the vast majority of customers do not jailbreak their iPhones, and for good reason. These hacks not only violate the warranty, they will also cause the iPhone to become unstable and not work reliably.”</p></blockquote>
<p>So there you have it.  Apple basically says “We told you so,” as they consider this is a case isolated just to jailbroken iPhone.  Malicious worms like this one may actually refrain people from jailbreaking their iPhones and further Apple&#8217;s no-jailbreaking agenda.</p>
<p>Only Jailbroken iPhones with default SSH passwords are affected by the worm. Thus it is important to change your SSH password right now if you don&#8217;t want to be the next victim.</p>
<p>For those with jailbroken iPhones make sure you know exactly what’s going on before jailbraking your iPhone.  Take precautions to protect your iPhone&#8217;s security. If you have an iPhone jailbroken for you by someone else, make sure your default SSH password has been changed.  If you don’t know how to change it.  <a href="http://cydia.saurik.com/password.html" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outbound/article/cydia.saurik.com');" target="_blank">Here’s how</a>.</p>

<p>Verizon declared war on AT&amp;T and Apple back in October with its &#8220;<a href="http://www.theappsmachine.com/iphone-news-and-rumors/atthere-is-a-map-for-that-commercial/" >There&#8217;s a Map for That</a>&#8221; ad.  Since then, it has also released the <a href="http://www.theappsmachine.com/iphone-news-and-rumors/att-sets-the-record-straight-on-verizon-ads-amends-its-lawsuit/" >Island of Misfit Toys</a> to further ridicule AT&amp;T and the iPhone.</p>
<p>But it looks like Apple had enough with Verizon&#8217;s recent unprovoked attacks.  It has launched two new commercials that touts the iPhone’s ability to surf the web and talk on the phone at the same time. In the new commercials Apple mentions AT&amp;T’s network for the first time.  After showing off the benefits of surfing and talking at the same time, Apple asked, “Can your phone <em>and your network</em> do that?”</p>
<p>Although Apple did not specifically mention Verizon.  Verizon is the nation’s largest CDMA network. And these ads seems to be Apple’s direct response to recent Verizon ads.  After all, Apple do not have to tout this function on its ads if it weren&#8217;t for Verizon recent attacks on AT&amp;T &#8217;s 3G network.</p>
<p>So it seems Apple is teaming up with AT&amp;T to fight a common enemy.  How will Verizon respond?  The drama continues.</p>

<p>Rarely have I played a 2D shooter as refreshing as MiniSquadron <a href="<a href="http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/stat?id=EKCeWUq*Klg&#038;offerid=146261&#038;type=3&#038;subid=0&#038;tmpid=1826&#038;RD_PARM1=http%253A%252F%252Fitunes.apple.com%252Fus%252Fapp%252Fminisquadron%252Fid339514220%253Fmt%253D8%2526uo%253D6%2526partnerId%253D30" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outbound/article/click.linksynergy.com');">&#8220;>(iTunes Link)</a>.  MiniSquadron isn’t just like any other 2D shooter.  This unique game is actually a dog fighting aerial combat game that pits player’s aircraft against computer controlled jets in a limited 2D air space.  Players will have to fight against waves of enemy planes.  Some waves have only a few enemy planes, but other waves can bring tens of highly advanced aircrafts that will be difficult to defeat.</p>
<p>MiniSquadron has arcade-like game play.  Flip 360 degrees, twist, dive, and shoot your way to victory, collecting 1ups and special stars to gain advantage over the enemies.  There are also some physics based elements in MiniSquadron as well. Your plane can stall and fall if the plane is flown too high or hit by the enemy.  But if you keep your plane’s head down and dive as you fall, you can still regain control and fly upwards to prevent a crash.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.theappsmachine.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/MS_planes-300x200.jpg" ><img class="alignright size-full wp-image-1587" title="MS_planes-300x200" src="http://www.theappsmachine.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/MS_planes-300x200.jpg" alt="MS_planes-300x200" width="300" height="200" /></a></p>
<p>There are 8 stages  for the single player game.  Each stage has 12 waves of enemy aircrafts to defeat.  Enemies can range from propeller planes, bombers, jet fighters, to UFO’s.  They can equip cannons, homing missiles, spray bombs, and even lasers.  As players progress through the various stages, up to 56 aircrafts can be unlocked.  These unlockable aircrafts give players more powerful weapons and faster aircrafts.  Each unlockable aircraft has to meet certain requirements to be accessible by the player.  They can be unlocked when they have achieved a certain score during a wave at a certain stage.  Tapping a locked aircraft will display its unlocking requirements.</p>
<p>Mini Squadron’s graphics and music are well done.  Although nothing amazing, it brings the classic cartoon-styled 2D shooter to life.  The aircrafts have an unique look to them and their animations are fluid.  The symphony classical music in the background also seem to fit perfectly to the aerial action in an odd way.</p>
<p>Mini Squadron uses a virtual control pad.  The controls are fairly simple and responsive.  By default, the plane will fly straight.  But by drawing a circle on the virtual control pad, the plane will flip 360 degrees, making it easier to maneuver to the tail of enemy aircrafts.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.theappsmachine.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/minisquadaction.jpg" ><img class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-1589" title="minisquadaction" src="http://www.theappsmachine.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/minisquadaction-300x200.jpg" alt="minisquadaction" width="300" height="200" /></a></p>
<p>The aerial combat action can be intense, especially when going against more than 10 enemy aircrafts during a wave.  Dodging bullets and missiles and maneuvering to finish those pesky enemy jets can be really fun.  And since the game rewards you extra score for defeating enemies without taking a hit, achieving the highest score should be the goal of any seasoned MiniSquadron player.</p>
<p>One of the weakness of MiniSquadron is lack of online high scores and achievements that are present in many other iPhone games.  It would be great to see how your top score rank in the world. There is also a multiplayer mode in  MiniSquadron, but MiniSquadron only supports local network connection. If MiniSquadron allows global online multi-player, that would make this game perfect.  It would be really fun to challenge 10 other players to a fight to the finish.</p>
<p>MiniSquadron is a great 2D shooter.  Its intense gameplay will give players a fun aerial combat experience.  With over 50 aircrafts to unlock and master, the game has a high replay value.  It is a must-own game for any fans of classic 2D shooters.<br />
<strong><br />
Review Score: 4.5/5</strong></p>
<p>Available now in the App Store <a href="<a href="http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/stat?id=EKCeWUq*Klg&#038;offerid=146261&#038;type=3&#038;subid=0&#038;tmpid=1826&#038;RD_PARM1=http%253A%252F%252Fitunes.apple.com%252Fus%252Fapp%252Fminisquadron%252Fid339514220%253Fmt%253D8%2526uo%253D6%2526partnerId%253D30" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outbound/article/click.linksynergy.com');">&#8220;>(iTunes Link)</a>. </p>

<p>For those who were wondering why there isn&#8217;t a classic Monopoly game for the iPhone and iPod Touch, your wait is over.  EA finally brings the classic board game to the App Store.</p>
<p>True to its original game, classic Monopoly brings you the familiar game pieces and streets.  The dog and Broadway Ave is back to challenge players to buy land, build houses, and collect rent to become the only monopoly in town.</p>
<p>Classic Monopoly allows you to play with up to 3 other computer controlled game pieces.  Up to 4 human players can play at the same time via local wi-fi.  Bluetooth multi-player is also enabled.  4 players can also play on the same device, each waiting for their turn to roll the dice.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.theappsmachine.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/monopoly.jpg" ><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1574" title="monopoly" src="http://www.theappsmachine.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/monopoly.jpg" alt="monopoly" width="480" height="320" /></a></p>
<p>Classic Monopoly instantly brings back the memories of  classic board game experience with its great presentation.  The 3D and interactive game board, along with silky smooth animation, will have players feel that they are actually playing a board game instead of a computerized game.   Trading properties with other players, mortgaging your properties to raise cash, are all actions available to make this app as realistic as the real game.</p>
<p>Perhaps the only downside to the app is its limitation to play with other players via local Wi-Fi.  It would be great to play with other players around the world, finding human opponents at anytime.</p>
<p>Until then, Classic Monopoly is a great game true to its roots.  Its presentation brings all elements of the classic board game to the iPhone/iPod Touch. It is a perfect game for friends and families during this holiday season. </p>

<p><strong>Sega has announced that Super Monkey Ball 2 <a href="http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/stat?id=EKCeWUq*Klg&#038;offerid=146261&#038;type=3&#038;subid=0&#038;tmpid=1826&#038;RD_PARM1=http%253A%252F%252Fitunes.apple.com%252Fus%252Fapp%252Fsuper-monkey-ball-2%252Fid340056794%253Fmt%253D8%2526uo%253D6%2526partnerId%253D30" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outbound/article/click.linksynergy.com');">(iTunes Link)</a> will be available for this holiday season.  It is currently in the app submission process and could hit the App Store any day.</strong></p>
<p>Super Monkey Ball for the iPhone was one of the first launch titles for the App Store.  Since the launch, its sales have extremely well, far exceeding Sega’s expectation.  &#8220;It sold really, really well. I wish I could give you the official numbers, but I&#8217;m not at liberty to do that. But it has gone past our wildest expectations,&#8221; says SEGA&#8217;s Ethan Einhorn. &#8220;We know that even though the game has continued to sell really well through the course of its lifespan, there&#8217;s definitely an audience just waiting for the game to get bigger and better, which is what we&#8217;re doing with Super Monkey Ball 2.&#8221;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.theappsmachine.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/SMB22.jpg" ><img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-1564" title="SMB22" src="http://www.theappsmachine.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/SMB22-300x200.jpg" alt="SMB22" width="300" height="200" /></a></p>
<p>Super Monkey Ball 2 will feature 115 stages, local Wi-Fi multi-player, better graphics and tighter controls.  Sega has paid extra attention to improve its accelerator controls.  Poor control system was one of the main complaints of many gamers toward the original Super Monkey Ball.  SEGA’s Einhorn comments on its effort to improve controls.</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;That took precedence over everything else. We looked very, very closely at what was working on the Wii game in terms of motion controls and what we could extrapolate from that. Part of what we were able to pull from that was much better control over the left and right movement of the character.  So we have something now where it is just so much easier to control the character and to make the precision movements that you have to.&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<p><a href="http://www.theappsmachine.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/smb3.jpg" ><img class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-1565" title="smb3" src="http://www.theappsmachine.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/smb3-300x200.jpg" alt="smb3" width="300" height="200" /></a></p>
<p>Super Monkey Ball 2 will feature five worlds from the Wii game Super Monkey Ball:  Banana Blitz.  The 3D world will look and feel better than the original iPhone game.  Local Wi-Fi multi-player will allow 4 players to race in any of the 115 stages.  Super Monkey Ball 2 will also feature mini-games.  Super Monkey Ball 2 will launch with Monkey Bowling.  After that SEGA will periodically release other mini-games.  Monkey Golf and Monkey Target is scheduled to be released via free download next February.  With Monkey Bowling, player simply  flick their finger to get your Monkey Bowling Ball to move towards the pins.  Players can also tilt their devices to control the Monkey Balls during a roll.</p>
<p>There is no price yet for Super Monkey Ball 2.  But $9.99 could be your best bet for the initial launch.</p>

<p><strong>AT&amp;T suffered a legal defeat over its attempt to remove Verizon’s ad featuring maps that compare 3G coverage in the U.S.  However at the same time, AT&amp;T also launched a new ad that tries to send the message that AT&amp;T’s 3G service is faster than Verizon’s 3G service.</strong></p>
<p>A judge ruled on Wednesday that while the ads may be “sneaky,” but they are not misleading.  Thus, the Verizon commercials will be allowed to stay on the air.  The Atlanta federal judge also stated that most TV watchers are “semi-catatonic,” and misinterpreting information in a commercial commonly occurs. AT&amp;T was given a chance to appeal their case on December 16th.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.theappsmachine.com/iphone-news-and-rumors/atthere-is-a-map-for-that-commercial/" >AT&#038;T took Verizon to court</a> over commercials that depict its 3G coverage as minimal when compared to Verizon&#8217;s network. AT&#038;T claims that the Verizon ads are misleading, making some viewers believe that AT&#038;T has little or no wireless coverage in most of the U.S. Verizon had responded very recently that <a href="http://www.theappsmachine.com/iphone-news-and-rumors/the-attverizon-drama-continues-verizon-responds-that-its-ads-are-the-truth/" >their ads are telling the truth</a>, and AT&#038;T is afraid that the truth is out.</p>
<p>Since AT&amp;T lost on the legal front, they are striking back with TV commercials of its own.  The new AT&amp;T’s ad compares the 3G networks of AT&amp;T and Verizon.  AT&amp;T claims a better 3G experience, talk and surf at the same time, and access to popular smart phones along with over 100,000 apps to choose from.  The ad also points viewers to the TruthAbout3G.com.   TruthAbout3G.com basically redirects visitors to AT&amp;T’s website that contains its <a href="http://www.theappsmachine.com/iphone-news-and-rumors/att-sets-the-record-straight-on-verizon-ads-amends-its-lawsuit/" >official response to Verizon Ads</a>.</p>
<p>It looks like AT&amp;T lost a battle today, but the war will continue.  As we approach the holiday season, will we see even more vicious and satirical ads on television from both sides?  Let’s watch and see.</p>

<p>Google Earth version 2.0 for the iPhone (<a href="http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/google-earth/id293622097?mt=8" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outbound/article/itunes.apple.com');">itunes link</a>) has been released in the App Store!  Google Earth for the iPhone is the second most-downloaded free iPhone app overall, just behind Facebook.  With its new update, Google has included new features, including viewing custom maps created on desktop computer, better user interface when viewing photos and Wikipedia articles, and new languages.</p>
<p align="center"><a href="http://www.theappsmachine.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/googlemymapsdesktop.JPG" ><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1541" title="googlemymapsdesktop" src="http://www.theappsmachine.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/googlemymapsdesktop.JPG" alt="googlemymapsdesktop" width="399" height="269" /></a></p>
<p>If you ever need to create a customized map and display them on your iPhone.  Google’s desktop client will enable you to create a path on the map and plot points to designate an action or landmark.  You can get a hold of custom maps made by your friends or established travelers that give you more insight during a trip.  For example, your friend can design a map that tell you the locations of the best bars in Las Vegas.  Your iPhone will be able to display these locations on the Google Earth app.  Bar hopping will be a lot easier with these custom maps and your iPhone’s GPS functionality.</p>
<p align="center"><a href="http://www.theappsmachine.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/earth-iphone-duo.jpg" ><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1540" title="earth iphone - duo" src="http://www.theappsmachine.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/earth-iphone-duo.jpg" alt="earth iphone - duo" width="409" height="294" /></a></p>
<p>With the new user interface, when an icon is tapped, a small glow appears under the finger to let users know which icon has been selected.  If the fingers touch more than one icon, a list of all icons will appear so users can better select their desired content.</p>
<p>Overall there are some slight improvements in this new update.  However, other than the new icon interface, there doesn’t seem to be enough new additional features to warrant this update as Google Earth 2.0 for the iPhone.   Usually with a new app version, there should be numerous additional features and perhaps some big user interface change.  What do our readers think?</p>

<p>There are lots of weird apps in the App Store.  But an app that uses the iPhone to blow out candles and herbs?</p>
<p>Qneo has released an app called <a href="http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/blower-real-air/id335862325?mt=8" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outbound/article/itunes.apple.com');">Blower</a> that claims to blow out candles without any peripheral accessories.  It uses the built-in speaker and play sound at a certain volume to generate a vibration strong enough to blow out candles and other small objects.</p>
<p>There’s no information on whether this app can damage the iPhone.  But putting your iPhone next to candles may not be such a great idea. Besides, why use your iPhone when you can use your lung.  On the other hand, this app may be useful to move small amounts of powder and herbs since the air blowing out of the iPhone is controlled and consistent.  So keep this app in mind if you ever need a small blower.</p>

<p>Wow, iPhone gamers rejoice. This week Konami has dropped the price of all iPhone games.  That means hit titles like Metal Gear Solid Touch, Dance, Dance Revolution, and Silent Hill are yours for just under a buck.<br />
This is the first time a major game publisher drops the prices of their games across the board. What is Konami&#8217;s reason for giving app shoppers the big break? Is it a simple strategy to revive sales for these old but superb titles?  Hopefully, it doesn&#8217;t mean that Konami has thrown in the towel on developing more mobile games for the iPhone and iPod.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.theappsmachine.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/mgstouch.jpg" ><img src="http://www.theappsmachine.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/mgstouch-300x180.jpg" alt="mgstouch" title="mgstouch" width="300" height="180" class="alignright size-medium wp-image-1524" /></a></p>
<p>What will it mean for other major publishers?  Major publishers have been known to drop the price of their games periodically to spark sales.  But none has dropped ALL of their premium title so much to just $0.99 at the same time.  Will any other big publisher follow Konami&#8217;s action today? Or are they criticizing Konami for pricing games that require heavy investments to such a cheap level and endangering the whole industry.</p>
<p>Those who bought at the original price are also angry that they have paid 5 to 10 times the current discounted price.  Such a move may prevent future buyers to buy games at the premium price.</p>
<p>But for those who have always wanted to get Konami iPhone games but didn&#8217;t, now is your chance to get it cheap!</p>

<p>Chillingo has just released their highly anticipated 3D action role playing game, <em>Ravensword:  The Fallen King</em>.  <em>Ravensword </em>is an open world roleplaying game similar to <em>Morrowind</em> and <em>Oblivion</em>.  Although not as detailed as these major console RPG games, <em>Ravensword </em>will have gamers explore its land, take on quests, and fight through dungeons in a three dimensional world of its own.</p>
<p>It is impressive that such a game can fit in your iPhone or iPod Touch.   Based on the Unity engine, <em>Ravensword</em> delivers  great graphics unlike any other role playing games on the iPhone.   Exploring the woods and ruins makes you wonder if you are playing a PC game instead of an iPhone game.</p>
<p>The gameplay itself is not too shabby.  The developers have stated that it will take gamers between 6 to 8 hours to complete the main quest.  There are also lots of side quests to complete while players roam the world of <em>Ravensword. </em>Players can ride horses, hunt animals and monsters with arrows, swords, and magical runes.  There are also NPC to interact and weapons to collect.  <em>Ravensword </em>is a classic RPG.</p>
<p>For those who love role playing games, <em>Ravensword</em> is a surprising addition on the iPhone.  So what are you waiting for? Download it today!</p>
