Materials

Graphite pencils: 3B, HB, 4H (2H, 7B for final details)

Woodless graphite:6B (optional)

Erasers: kneaded and white sharpenable eraser

Blending stumps

Paper: 140 lb/300 g cold press (watercolor paper)

I. Basic Sketch

Step 1
Start off by lightly sketching a basic circle as a starting point using an HB pencil. Sketch in basic guidelines for facial feature placement.

Step 2
Sketch in basic shapes for the eyes and cheeks. Develop the eyes then sketch in the nose and bottom jaw.

Step 3
Sketch in the ears and add guidelines for the neck/body. Erase unnecessary guidelines and develop the outlines some more.

II. Basic Highlights and Shadows

Step 4
Using 6B woodless graphite or any soft, dark pencil, very lightly crosshatch over the drawing.

Step 5
Use a blending stump or paper towel to smooth out the background shading then lightly smooth over the caracal. Avoid over-blending; the outlines should still be visible.

Step 6
Use an eraser to add basic highlights to the caracal and background. Sharpenable eraser work best for this step. Use a soft pencil (6B-3B), to add basic dark shading to the caracal's features.

III. Shading

Step 7
Use a hard pencil (2H-4H) to add light shading to the eyes. Use a softer pencil (3B-B) to build up the dark shading of the eyes. Be sure to keep the reflection over the eyes as white as possible.

Step 8
Use an HB pencil to roughly develop the fur below the eyes as well as the shading of the cheeks. Use a softer pencil (3B-B) to draw in the whiskers and build up the dark shading of the nose, mouth and cheeks.

Step 9
Use a 2H pencil define the outline of the left ear and start developing the fur in and around the ears. Use an HB pencil define the fur before using a softer pencil (3B-B) to define the shadows/darker shading.

Step 10
Use a 2H pencil to define the outline of the right ear at well as the fur on top of the head. Use a soft pencil (3B-B) to build up the dark shading of the ear.

Step 11
Use an HB pencil to begin adding fur shading to the face. Pay attention to the flow of the fur and use very quick, short strokes to emulate hair. Keep adding more layers of fur until more natural and full.

Step 12
Use an HB pencil to roughly shade in the neck and body fur. Start building up the background shading. Spreading graphite powder with a blending stump is the quickest way to develop the shading however lightly crosshatching with a soft (9B-6B) pencil would also work.

Step 13
Add another layer of even darker shading before using a blending stump to smooth out the background shading.

IV. Final Details

Step 14
Start adding final details. Use a 2H pencil for the lightest details, HB for darker details, and a soft pencil (7B-3B) for the darkest shading. Start at the top left ear. Be sure to sharpen the outline around the ears and develop the fur.

Step 15
Develop the shading of the right ear as well as the forehead fur. Try to work from top to bottom. Add more detail to the eyes as needed.

Step 16
Finish up by developing the whiskers and muzzle fur as well as the neck and body fur. Use an eraser to clean up highlight and a blending stump to smooth over any shading that seems too rough.

Step 1
Start off with very basic guidelines. Base the shape of the head around a circle. Either sketch lightly with an HB pencil or use a 4H pencil to make the lines extra light.

Step 2
Lightly sketch in the basic features: the eyes/eyebrows, nose, mouth, ears and neck. Sketch in the fez as well.

Step 3
Erase unneeded guidelines and build up the features a bit more. Add a bit more to the eyes and eyebrows as well as the nose and mouth.

Step 4
Use an HB pencil to darken the main sketch lines. Don't worry about getting perfect outlines, these lines merely serve as a starting point for the rest of the drawing.

Step 5
Use an HB pencil to add some rough shading to the drawing. Use light hatching to shade over the head.

Step 6
Use a blending stump to lightly blend in the shading. Don't worry too much about making the shading perfectly smooth.

Step 7
Use cross-hatching to lightly shade over the darkest areas of the drawing: around the eyes, the ears, the fez and the shadows around the nose and mouth.

Step 8
Use a 6B pencil to start adding rough, dark shading to the drawing. Start around the eyes. Remember that it will take multiple layers to make the shading smooth and dark.

Step 9
Use an HB pencil to lightly smooth out the 6B graphite. Again, don't worry about the shading being too textured. Just worry about defining the outlines of the shadows and adding layers to the shading.

Step 10
Use a 6B pencil to add rough, dark shading to the ears, hair and fez. Add a bit of rough shading to the cheekbones as well.

Step 11
Use an HB pencil to add a layer of shading over the 6B graphite. Shade lightly over the skin to give it a more natural texture.

Step 12
Use a 6B pencil to roughly shade the rest of the face. Keep the wrinkles and form in mind when shading.

Step 13
Use an HB pencil to define the rest of the shading a bit. Clean up the outline as well.

Step 14
Add a rough layer of shading to the background. This can be accomplished by crosshatching with an HB or 6B pencil and then blending in the shading with a blending stump or paper towel. Using powdered graphite will provide the smoothest shading.

Step 15
Start adding the final layers of shading to the drawing. Start with the eyes and forehead. Use 6B and HB pencils to make the shadows as dark as possible. Use an HB pencil on mid-tones. If any of the lines aren\'t crisp enough use a 4H pencil to define them. Use a blending stump with a 4H pencil to smooth out any light areas that are too textured. Use an eraser to add any needed highlights.

Step 16
Add final details to the top of the drawing and ears. Remember to only use a blending stump to smooth out light shading/mid-tones. If the need arises to smooth out dark shading, Just build up layers using 6B and HB pencils.

Step 17
Build up the shading on the rest of the face. Make sure to make the shadows beneath the nose and top lip as dark as the rest of the shadows.

Step 18
Make one final pass over the drawing to add final details, clean up highlights, and define shadows. Go ahead and add another layer of shading and blending to the background if it isn't smooth enough before calling the drawing done.

How to Draw Morpheus

Step 1
Start off by sketching basic shapes and guidelines using an HB pencil. Sketch a circle and a basic jaw shape as well as basic guidelines for the torso. Add rough marks to pinpoint where the eyes, nose, mouth, and ears will be.

Step 2
Build up the features of the head. Sketch in the sunglasses and eyebrows, ears, and mouth. Round out the head and define the jaw-line.

Step 3
Build up the clothing. Do not worry about details just yet. Concentrate on getting a basic layer to build upon.

Step 4
Use a sharpened HB pencil to refine the main lines of the drawing. Start with the head and work downwards. Erase any unneeded lines.

Step 5
Define the lines of the clothing. Again, try to erase any guidelines that will no longer be needed.

Step 6
Using the same HB pencil, Shade over the figure using a hatching pattern. Shade as lightly as possible.

Step 7
Now lightly shade in the darker shading using a cross-hatching pattern. Keep it simple by only worrying about the sun glasses, the dark shading around the head, the shirt, and the coat.

Step 8
Use a soft pencil (6B) to start adding thicker layers of rough shading. Remember to shade as lightly as possible. Instead of adding pencil pressure to make the shading dark, progressively build it up with layers.

Step 9
Use an HB pencil refine the shading. Define the dark shadows and head outline. Try not to completely shade over the texture of the skin.

Step 10
Start roughly shading in his clothing using a 6B pencil. Start with his shirt/tie and vest before moving to his coat.

Step 11
Roughly shade in the iconic leather coat. Work from left to right, top to bottom.

Step 12
Use an HB pencil to refine the shading of his clothing. Again, it is easiest to work from left to right, top to bottom.

Step 13
Start adding final details to the drawing. Start with the head and work downwards. Use a 6B pencil to work on the darkest shading, an HB pencil for intermediate shading and a 2H pencil for details/ light shading. Use an eraser to add highlights. A blending stump and powdered graphite can be used to add some smooth shading to the background.

Step 14
Start adding details to the clothing. Start with the left side and work from top to bottom. Use primarily 6B and HB pencils for the coat and 2H and HB pencils for the shirt, vest and tie.

Step 15
Shade in the rest of his clothing, then go over the drawing as a whole. Redefine outlines and smooth out rough shading before calling the drawing done.

How to Draw a Wyvern

Step 1
Start out with a light and basic sketch of the wyvern's body using an HB pencil. Keep the guidelines as clean and simple as possible.

Step 2
Build basic forms over the guidelines. Keep the lines light and sketchy.

Step 3
Start adding cleaner, more defined features to the wyvern. Work from left to right.

Step 4
Define the wing. Erase unneeded any unneeded guidelines.

Step 5
Build upon the features of the tail as well as the cliff that the wyvern is mounted upon.

Step 6
Start adding the next layer of detailed lines from left to right. Make the lines darker and more defined without adding too much pressure; try to produce darker lines without making them permanent and un-erasable.

Step 7
Add some detailed lines to the wings.

Step 8
Add detailed lines to the rest of the drawing.

Step 9
Add a layer of base shading to the entire drawing. There are many ways to go about adding this base layer, the quickest and most effective involves using powdered graphite. Sprinkle a pinch or two of powdered graphite onto the paper and blend it in with a paper towel or tissue. Lightly cross-hatching over the paper with an HB pencil, then smoothing out the shading will produce a similar but rougher effect.

Step 10
Preemptively erase around the edges of the head before adding rough shading. Lightly shade in in the head using 2B or any soft graphite.

Step 11
Add rough shading to the neck. Try not to get too engrossed with the details. The main goal here is to add a layer of shading that will be built upon later.

Step 12
Switch to a sharpened HB pencil and add detailed shading to the head and neck. Don't worry about adding the most minute details, just concentrate on defining the main outlines, shadows, and forms.

Step 13
Add rough shading to the wing using a 2B pencil. Pattens can be added to the wings to make them more interesting. Let your imagination go wild here.

Step 14
Add rough shading to the cliff. Keep in mind that it will take many layers of shading with a 2B pencil to make the rocks as dark as they are in the finished drawing.

Step 15
Start defining the wing and cliff shading. Use a 2B pencil to define the cliff and an HB pencil to define the wing.

Step 16
Define the rest of the wing and cliff side.

Step 17
Add rough shading to the rest of the back, hind leg, and tail of the wyvern using a 2B.

Step 18
Build up the shading using an HB pencil.

Step 19
Start adding a final layer of extra details using 2B and 4H pencils. Use a sharpened 2B pencil to define the dark shading and outlines on the wyvern as well as the cliff. Use a 4H pencil or any hard pencil, to refine or add any small details to the wyvern itself. Use a blending stump and powdered graphite to smooth out the background.

Step 20
Define the rest of the dragon, cliff and background in the same manner. Add as much detail as you see fit in order to make this wyvern your own!

How to Draw Ultron

Step 1
Start by lightly sketching a basic skeleton. Start with a circle for the skull and branch outwards.

Step 2
Begin adding Ultron's basic features from top to bottom. Continue sketching lightly without getting too caught up with details.

Step 3
Sketch in the basic forms for the rest of the drawing. Don't be afraid to erase and try again if anything seems out of place.

Step 4
Start adding clean, more detailed lines to the drawing. Lightly erase any unneeded guidelines before adding bold lines. Apply as little pressure as possible when applying these lines in order to make modifying them easier later on.

Step 5
Detail the lines of his upper arms. Again, don't dwell too much on details, just try to make the lines bold and confident.

Step 6
Define the lines of the forearms as well as the throne.

Step 7
Finish defining the lines by working on Ultron's torso and the rest of his body. Erase any unneeded lines over the drawing as a whole before advancing from this step.

Step 8
Add a base layer of smooth shading to the drawing. The best method to use here would be to load some graphite onto a piece of paper towel or tissue and then lightly blend the graphite into the paper. Powdered graphite works well for this.

Step 9
Use a 3B pencil to roughly shade Ultron's head and the aura surrounding it. Use an eraser to add highlights.

Step 10
Use an HB pencil to define the shading a bit more. Use a blending stump to smooth out any overly rough shading.

Step 11
Add rough shading and highlights to the upper left arm. Add rough shading to upper left side of the background as well.

Step 12
Lightly define the shading with an HB pencil and smooth it out with a blending stump. Don't get too caught up in detailed shading just yet.

Step 13
Roughly shade in the rest of the left arm and background. Don't forget to shade in the throne and cloak beneath his arm as well.

Step 14
Add details and blending to the previous step's shading.

Step 15
Add rough shading to Ultron's body. Work from top to bottom, piece by piece.

Step 16
Add detailed shading and blending to the previous step's shading.

Step 17
Roughly shade in the rest of the drawing. Remember to work from top to bottom, section by section.

Step 18
Add more detailed shading and blending to the rest of the drawing.

Step 19
Begin refining the shading and lines of the drawing. Use 3B pencil to build up the shading then Use an H pencil to refine it. Sharpen the edges and outlines using the H pencil. Start with the left side of the drawing.

Step 20
Refine the shading in the middle third of the drawing. Work from top to bottom, section by section. Use a blending stump as needed to smooth out the shading.

Step 21
Refine the rest of the drawing shading.

Step 22
Make on final pass over the entire drawing. Erase any needed highlights. This time Use an HB pencil to add any finishing touches to the shading. smooth out the background shading if necessary.

How to Draw a Jaguar

Step 1
Begin by sketching a rough circle. Build rough guidelines for the jaguar's head and spine from and around the circle. Sketch as lightly as possible.

Step 2
Sketch in guidelines for the rest of the drawing. Sketch in a basic tail, basic legs, paws, as well as the log that the jaguar is resting on.

Step 3
Start more detailed features on top of the guidelines. Start by concentrating on the head and the left side of the drawing.

Step 4
Add more detail to the rest of the drawing. Make sure to continue sketching lightly.

Step 5
Begin cleaning up the sketch by redefining the left side. Erase any unneeded guidelines and redefine the outlines without going into too much detail.

Step 6
Redefine the lines on the right side of the drawing. This sketch is the base for the rest of the drawing. Make sure that it is satisfactory before moving on.

Step 7
Using a soft pencil (5B) begin adding rough shading to the drawing. Start with the head. Try to make the jaguar's spots look natural by not making the patterns perfectly symmetrical. Shade lightly by barely pressing the pencil into the paper.

Step 8
Use an HB pencil to build up the shading without going into too much detail. Shade over the spots and define the outlines around the jaguar's head.

Step 9
Use a soft (5B) pencil to add rough shading to the front legs, jaguar's back, and the left side of the log. Build up the basic shading in the background as well.

Step 10
Use an HB pencil to build up and define the shading. Concentrate on the spots and outlines.

Step 11
Use a soft pencil (5B) once more to add rough shading to the rest of the drawing.

Step 12
Use an HB pencil to define the rest of the shading a bit more.

Step 13
Begin adding the final layer of shading. Go over the dark details with HB and 5B pencils. Use a 3H pencil on light/fine details (fur and whiskers). Add another layer of 5B shading to the background; use an HB pencil to smooth out the shading.

Step 14
Add details the the rest of the far left side of the drawing. and make the background as clean as possible for now.

Step 15
Define the rest of the left half of the drawing. Add details to the log with HB and 4H pencils.

Step 16
Define the rest of the body shading and build up the background on the right side. Blend in the background shading with a blending stump if it appears to rough/textured.

Step 17
Define the rest of the log using 4B and HB pencils. Add finishing touches to the drawing as a whole. Lightly smooth out the shading here and there using a blending stump without compromising details and textures.

Start adding final details by adding some definition to the background. Use an eraser/ blending stump to smooth out the background shading and create some basic clouds/smoke.

Start adding final details to Jaina by starting with her face. Use HB and B pencils for dark shading and a 3H pencil for details.

Step 6c
Define Jaina's hood. Be sure to pay extra attention to the outline of the hood. Use a blending stump as needed.

Step 6d
Use a 3H pencil to begin detailing her hair. Try to make the strands follow the natural flow of her hair. Use a blending stump to aid with smoothing out the lines. Use an HB pencil in tandem with the 3H to add any darker shading.

Step 6e
Define the rest of the hair before moving on to her torso. Use B and HB graphite to shade in her clothing and skin before using a 3H pencil and blending stump to smooth out and detail the shading.

Step 6f
Define the left side of the drawing. Build up multiple layers with an HB pencil to shade the cloak. Use a B pencil to make the shading darker. Use a 3H pencil and eraser to define the glowing arcane symbol and an HB pencil and blending stump to add the rest of the shading.

Step 6g
Build up the shading on the right side of the drawing following the same process used for the left side. Add finishing touches to the rest of the drawing by redefining outlines and cleaning up any rough shading.

Step 1
Roughly sketch in basic guidelines for the eye. HB graphite works best for sketching. HB woodless graphite can also be used to expedite the sketching process.

Step 2
Refine the sketch. Erase any unneeded lines. Keep the sketch as simple and light as possible.

Step 3
Add a rough layer of shading to the drawing using 4B graphite. Smooth over the shading using blending stumps and paper towels. Powdered graphite can also be used to add a smoother layer of shading to the outer edges of the drawing.

Step 4
Add a layer of dark shading using 4B graphite. 4B woodless graphite can be used to cover large areas. A blending stump can be used to smooth out shading. Shading very lightly with a 4B pencil will produce natural textures that add more detail to the drawing. Highlight the reflections with an eraser.

Step 5
Devolop the shading using HB graphite. Add more layers over the darkest areas to make them smoother and darker. Add more details to the iris and more texture to the eye lids.

Step 6
Use a 2H pencil to refine the textures and details of the drawing. Add more layers of shading with a 4B pencil to darken the shadows/build up textures. Use HB graphite to work on any details that are too dark for a 2H pencil. Add final highlights and finishing touches to the drawing.

Step 1

Use 2H, HB and 4B pencils to add finishing touches. Use the 2H pencil for light shading/crisp lines, HB for midtones and general shading, and 4B for shadows and textures. Try to work from left to right when adding finishing details (or right to left if you are left handed).
