Hi Eric, you generally meet significant resistance when the numbers are in the zero's (1.5000, 1.6000 etc). When we consider back a while, the euro hadn't broken through the $1.5000 mark, there was significant resistance at this point. Generally speaking, new highs will meet resistance, especially with recent Fed comments that they don't want the dollar to weaken any further. It is in the interests of Europe, the UK and America to maintain a certain amount of strength in the dollar.

It is likely that the $1.6000 region is receiving significant psychological resistance from dollar bears and a certain amount of intervention from some of the big global banks injecting money into the system to bolster the currency.

In the long run though a break through $1.6000 isn't out of the question.

Hi Rob,

I've been trading the EUR/USD for about 3 months now. Do you know why 1.5900 - 1.6000 has so much resistance built up? It doesn't seem to ever go past this point. Who would be buying USD in that area?

@ Freed Lander - I was quite surprised by the EURONCAP rating for the Freelander to be honest. I thought 4x4 vehicles tended to be unsafe, but that's clearly not the case anymore.

@ Orlandy - I didn't realise Land Rover were making a profit, I knew Jaguar were in pretty sore-straights, but I think the new XF may buck the trend. They certainly look the business, I'm not too sure how economical they are though.

Time will tell whether it was a good buy for Tata. At $2.3bn it was quite a large investment for the Indian car manufacturer.

Land Rover was the part of the deal that was turning a profit. Jaguar has been losing Ford money for quite some time. Land Rover's continued development in technology, such as the new 'All Terrain Response System' earned them one of the two coveted Queens Awards they picked up this year. This can do nothing but boost the brand and help ensure a successful financial future.

The Freelander certainly has come a long way forward with improved safety features - back in 2002 the ANCAP test only awarded 3 stars and a meagre 6.434 out of 16 for the offset crash test (possibly the most common crash off roaders experience).

Hi Rick, I think it's very interesting to see the economic troubles that are hitting across Europe, the US and the UK in particular. For the first time (since I can recollect)we are seeing lots of negative factors hitting at once.

Global warming, downturn in economy, rising oil prices (among other commodities). We are also seeing the prolonged strengthening of the euro against the dollar marking a key economic move for the global market.
