TOFU is perhaps the first cuddly robot that most people want to pick up and hug. TOFU, which developed by the ubernerds at the MIT Media Laban, adorably fuzzy little bot with OLED screens for eyes. He dances to music!

He’s a “squash and stretch” robot, one that uses techniques of social expression employed by 2D animators to give himself some personality. If they sold this guy for not-too-much and we could put him on our desk to dance to music and amuse us, it would be difficult to resist buying one.

Most people is now aware of the devastation left behind by the recent earthquake in Sichuan China. One thing that I never became familiar with is the earthquake lights folklore or earthquake lights phenomenon. Apparently for years to come, there have been reports of strange lights in the sky before Earthquakes have occurred. I don?t think these have ever really been associated with earthquakes, but it certainly is an interesting occurance.

There have been videos now showing these types of lights before the China earthquake. This particular video footage was apparently captured 30 minutes to an hour before the powerful quake.

Usually, earthquake lights appear as either red or blue colored lights, sometimes similar to prism colors. Some are dark, some are bright. In over the years, the types of lights reported have varied. Some of these lights have been said to appear as if they have risen from the ground, while others have been seen above the seas. Before an earthquake, the lights will usually appear days, or sometimes weeks. There are all sorts of theories as to why these lights appear, but none of them have been confirmed as the actual cause.

High tech security software developed to help handle Obama’s inauguration.

A centralized transportation grid called the RITIS (Regional Integrated Transportation Information System), which developed by the University of Maryland, will give security officials a clear view in real-time of what’s going on during President-Elect Barack Obama’s inauguration. Its chief use is to process all of the decision-making data sent in from the various security forces helping police the inauguration and translate that into directions and points of interest on an easy to read map. Think of it like a tactical Google Maps.

Originally, RITIS was just software design to coordinate traffic, but the UM students saw a chance to expand it to aid in protecting and guiding convoys, such as Obama’s presidential one. In the future, the team would like to include other data that can affect decision-making, such as changes in weather.

YouTube seem sick of being stuck on the computer. They wants an upgrade to your TV, and they know the best way to get that is through video games. That’s why YouTube is coming shortly to the Sony Playstation 3 and the Nintendo Wii. There’s no love for the Xbox 360, sadly, but it may not be far off.

For PS3 and Wii owners, to get a specially-formatted version of the site for your TV, they merely have to point their console’s browser to www.youtube.com/tv. You’ll then be able to surf through all the user-generated videos you want from the comfort of your couch. Now let’s get this to the Xbox!

Yeah, Obama cellphone is for true superfans only. If you’re really excited about President Barack Obama, then you might find this Obama phone attractive. It’s got a big Obama logo on the back, the Obama “O” on the main button nub, and a classy color scheme. It’s pretty basic beyond this.

If you want this, you’d better be living in Kenya, because that’s where it’s available. Obama is hugely popular there, seeing Barack is half Kenyan. So, capitalizing on that, local carrier miPhone has unleashed this little beauty. I’d say the chances are good that we’ll see this thing on eBay pretty soon.
