Gadget Review - Sony Xperia Z Ultra is the second generation of Quad-core smartphone from Sony Mobile. The design concept its just like its predecessor - Xperia Z - including the water and dust resistance features.

Design

Xperia Z Ultra is meant to be a phone, but with a 6.44-inch screen it's undoubtedly a huge device, but at 6.5mm thick it sits more comfortably in the hand than you might expect.

Sony Xperia Z Ultra design is something that is as much of an acquired taste as the Xperia Z before it. It has the same sharp design, little curve on the corner, makes it look elegant and premium. Just like Xperia Z, On the front and the back side of Z Ultra protected by shatterproof and scratch resistant glass.

Waterproof and dust-proof element is obviously the high point for this device. With IP55/IP58 certification make Xperia Z Ultra has the ability to withstand water and dust. Rubber seal covering the micro USB, slot SIM card and microSD port - to prevent water or dust to penetrate inside this phone.

Display & Interface

Gadget Review - After the success of the Galaxy S3, Samsung didn't stop there. Currently, Samsung has released their new smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S4. Samsung pinning eight-core processor, plus a variety of interesting features. Samsung seems optimistic to remain the king of smartphones in the world.

Design
Physically, Galaxy S4 does look very similar to its predecessor. However, S4 body it is slimmer, thinner and lighter. With the margin between the screen and the metal bezel is so thin that makes it quite comfortable to hold with one hand.

Covered with glossy white color, S4 still using plastic materials. This makes a lot of criticism. Moreover, many competitors already used a more solid materials like aluminum material on the iPhone 5 and HTC One, also scratch resistant glass material almost all parts of the body such as the Sony Xperia Z. With these materials makes S4 looks cheaper than other competitors.

Display
Samsung slightly expand the display screen from the previous versions. if the S3 using 4.8-inch screen, in S4 already using a 5-inch screen. Not only that, Samsung also upgraded the screen resolution to 1080x1820 pixels.

Thanks to the AMOLED technology, Samsung Galaxy S4 has an impressive contrast characteristics, and better color saturation than LCD panels. S4 also has a wide viewing angle, the color does not seem deterioration even at fairly extreme angles though.

S4 Features
The latest feature from S4 is the Air View. Actually, this feature is already been introduced on the Galaxy Note 2. The difference is, you need the S Pen on Galaxy Note 2, while the S4 only need your finger to use this feature.

Air View allows users to perform certain functions simply by putting a finger in front of the screen without touching it (hovering). Available functions include displaying information on the event held at the S Planner, peek at the contents of the album in the gallery menu, video preview by hovering on the line of the video timeline, or enlarge the view of the site pages. Air View can detect your finger when it is at a distance of 1cm in front of the screen.

Another feature is the Air Gesture, this feature also allows users to control the S4 without touching it. This special feature uses sensors located above the screen precisely beside the earpiece.

With this feature the user can scroll when opening a web page or email read simply by moving hands in front of the sensor up or down, or switching between images when displaying the collection in the gallery by waving to the right or the left. There is also a motion feature and palm motion that has existed since the Galaxy S3.

Gadget Review - Xperia Z is the first smartphone from Sony that brings quad-core processor. Although a little late from its competitors, but the Xperia Z has features that not possessed by other smartphones, which is able to "dive underwater" a.k.a Waterproof!!

Design
Sony has taken a different approach to their competitor when it comes to the phone's design. Instead of all-aluminum body, Xperia Z is all about the glass front and rear. But with thin, symmetrical box shape and a slightly curved corner, gives the impression of an elegant and high-class smartphone.

Holding IP55 and IP57 certification , the Xperia Z can convince users that this smartphone can submerged in water with a depth of 1 meter for up to 30 minutes without damage. So of course, this smartphone will survive a rain shower or a drop from a top pocket into the toilet.

Moreover, Sony claims that both sides of the main mobile phone protected with shatterproof glass, plus every slot that connects directly to the inside of the phone (3.5 mm audio port, microSIM slot, the power/lock, volume control and speaker, bottom mic hole and dock connector, a microUSB port and a microSD slot) are protected by a rubber-sealed that prevents water to get into and feel very sturdy when they clip in and out, so you're not too worried about them breaking off.

But unfortunately the combination of quad-core processor and extra wide screen is a potential for wasteful consumption of battery power. The Sony seems to have predicted it, for that Xperia Z has power saving modes (Stamina Mode), so when the Stamina mode is enabled, the phone will automatically stop mobile data connection when the screen is locked.

Connectivity

Gadget Review - BlackBerry Z10 is a big change from the BlackBerry. Jump out from BB7 OS to BB10 OS, Z10 has totally revamp some features to reclaim its popularity.

Design
BlackBerry gives look really fresh on this new device. With its tall and thin, straight edges and rounded corners design, at first glance makes it look similar to the iPhone 5. This shape makes Z10 is easy to operate with one hand.

BlackBerry Hub

BlackBerry Hub is one of the excellent features in blackberry Z10. Much like social feeds on the OS version 7, but with a wider scope of communication. He was able to present any communications made users ranging from email, BBM, SMS, social networking accounts such as Facebook and Twitter, as well as phone calls.

Time Shift mode captures milliseconds before and after your photo, so you can scroll back or forward on the dial to open and adjust the best moment of each specific thing that you've chosen before, before combining it all to create the perfect picture. This mode is best to use when shooting a moving object or a group of people who can sometimes be imperfect because of blinking or making unwanted expression, because you can choose the best moments from each image captured.

Connectivity
To be able to compete with its competitors, BlackBerry Z10 was equipped with all the high-end connectivity options you might need. To connect into the data connection, the BlackBerry has support 4G LTE network, although not all countries support this network.

Z10 also features a micro HDMI slot to connect to a display device such as an HDTV to enjoy a collection of photos or videos stored on the phone. Review: Samsung Galaxy Note II

Gadget Review - When Samsung release Galaxy Note products to the global market, you may wonder, is this a phone? or is it a tablet? Galaxy Note is too big to be called a phone, but it was too small, too, if called a tablet. To be fair, better call it Phablet (Phone-Tablet), a new variant in the gadget world. Perhaps many are predicting that a new variant will not be easy to succeed in the market, but in fact the first generation of Galaxy Note has sold 10 million units since it was introduced in October 2011. Samsung finally launched the second generation, the Galaxy Note II with the code name N7100.

Design
If seen from the shape Note II is even more like Galaxy S III. Compared to its predecessor, Note II is slightly taller but more slim. Like the Galaxy S III, Note II also uses Hyperglaze finishing which gives luxurious glossy display on the back cover of the phone.

The use of plastic materials can be understandable, given the choice of a more luxurious materials will definitely have an impact on it's weight.

Display

The size has gone up slightly from 5.3 to 5.5 inches. And although pixel density is reduced, we didn't notice it at first. Galaxy Note II uses a bright, vivid Samsung Super AMOLED panel covered by Gorilla Glass 2.

Although Note II's pixel density is not as good as its predecessor (267ppi versus 285ppi), but it looks sharper. Perhaps this is because the Super AMOLED panel that no longer use pentile matrix. Which able to make this phone has more subpixels. Subpixel is what produces better sharpness.

Samsung presents a new experience in screen brightness level settings, where the slider to adjust the brightness level can still be used to suit the needs even though the auto brightness option is enabled. So that when the lighting conditions change around the Note II, the display will only make minor adjustments of a predetermined level.

Interface & OS
Note II using Jellybean OS, which is coated with Touchwiz interface . From the homescreen is not much changed from possession than Galaxy S III Ice Cream Sandwich OS, unless the number of shortcuts that increased to 5.

What is different is the setting which can be done in the Settings menu, such as activate Information Ticker that will present the latest news from a particular site feeds, stock market development, or Facebook update.

Samsung double the strength into Quad-core processor, which previously only use a dual-core processor. Not only that clock speed was increased to 1.6GHz from the previous 1.4 GHz. In addition, Note II paired with 2GB RAM memory, that's mean, 100% larger than its predecessor.

To support the performance of the hardware that will require large power intake, Note II is also equipped with a battery power of 3100mAh power, which Samsung reckons will provide standby time of some 890 hours on 3G.

Features & S-Pen
Besides smart stay feature that when activated will prevent the screen dims as long as you look at the screen. Samsung also added a Smart Rotation feature in Note II. This feature will prevent the change of screen orientation even though the position changed Note II. As well as smart stay, smart rotation features utilize the front camera to determine the orientation of your face and eyes and rotate the screen accordingly. This feature will be very fun for users who often use phones while lying down.

There are also Motion, which is a feature that runs just by how the user moves the Note II. The motion settings allow for lots of gestures such as 'tilt to zoom', 'pan to move' or 'Quick glance' to activate the screen by simply reaching for the Note 2.

No Galaxy Note without S-Pen. With a length of 11.3cm and 7mm thick, Note II's S-Pen feels relatively more comfortable than the previous S Pen.

Note II using the S Pen which is able to recognize up to 1024 different levels of pressure, it will be very useful for users who like to drawing, because pressure power will have an impact on the thickness of the resulting line.

When S Pen removed from its slot, a panel will be added to the homescreen. This panel contains a widget which also serves as a shortcut to make notes. User-created notes can be varied, as Note II gives 9 categories option, including diaries, recipes and travel notes.

There are also several features associated with the S Pen, such as Air View, Gesture and Quick Command. Not only that, Chapter Preview feature where the phone will display the currently playing video in several thumbnail that split video into several parts accordingly. This will be very useful when you play long duration

A wider screen with the latest Android version, super fast processor, more functional and better connection than ever. Moreover, the performance is somewhat better than the Galaxy S III. Unfortunately the price is expensive, but if you're looking for a larger smartphone or a small tablet, there really is no better device.

Gadget Review - Who would have thought that the 4th generation of iPad (iPad 4) will be arriving this soon. Even the launch coincided with the iPad Mini. Though usually at the launch of Apple products we have to wait at least about 12 months for the next generation to finally launch. What kind of upgrades that iPad 4 brings?

Design
iPad 4 design and shape are very much the same as the New iPad (or iPad 3rd generation). Both in terms of size, shape, and even the corners that we find on the previous iPad. Made with exclusive materials, unibodi with the metal on the back, and a scratch-resistant screen on the front. Also, iPad 4 still using a 9.7 inches screen and a fairly wide margin area on the frame. From edge to edge screen iPad is active there are about 16-21 mm in the frame.

The main difference lies in the data / power connector that already use lightning as the iPhone 5 and iPad mini. Therefore, you may have trouble finding a third-party accessories that support these connections. But the easiest way is to use a separate converter, from lightning to 30 pins (the iPad / iPhone old pin before lightning).

Screen
iPad 4 also uses retina display screen with a of 2048 x 1536 pixels resolution (264 ppi). The screen is of course on top of HD resolution and is believed to be the maximum resolution that can be interpreted by normal human retina.

In the fourth generation iPad has no longer an issue with overheating. The heat felt is still in the normal range because of hardware performance, not solely from the screen. Apple has redesigned the entire iPhone 5, for example, headphone earpod now in one place. Smaller connector with less pin but offers excellent performance when used to transfer files.

Visually, iPhone 5 are similar to iPhone 4S, it kept the same side-to-side width, but added more heights, so it makes the screen size longer and looks more refined, giving extra space to put a shortcut applications. Performance

The essence of iPhone 5 is the new A6 processor, a chip that the Apple is not too keen to describe in detail other than to call it being "twice as fast" and 22% smaller than A5 processor. Why Apple didn't inform the detail to the public? It's obvious because people in Cupertino don't want consumers trying to make a conclusion based on the number of cores and gigahertz speeds.

The iPhone 5 is now a 4G LTE superphone, meaning that in certain lucky cities, you get wicked-fast Internet connections. You no longer need to use a cable modem (ADSL) that plug into the Wi-Fi box. With the iPhone 5, you can share an Internet connection or a more familiar called tethering. 4G LTE in the test are able to access the Internet with a speed of 10-20 Mbps, compared to ADSL speeds that only able to provide 1-3 Mbps.

Camera

Indeed there is no fundamental change of the features offered by the camera in the iPhone 5, besides the presence of A6 to support faster performance. Changes actually happened when changing Apple VGA FaceTime camera into 1.2-megapixel HD FaceTime capable of capturing 720p video. This resolution clearly increased, but so did the overall image quality, with color reproduction which is much more accurate.

The camera on the back has been tweaked so that it feels like having a new camera. Although still 8 megapixels, a sapphire crystal lens technology can adjust the lighting, including image stabilization in 1080p video recording, and stability when panning on panorama.

Speaking a panorama mode for the camera, there's a new feature that comes in handy more often than you might expect. As you swing the iPhone around you, it stitches many shots together into a seamless, ultra-wide-angle, 28 megapixel photo. Unlike other applications and phones with panorama modes, the iPhone 5 is fully automated and offers a preview of the panorama that materializes as you’re taking it.

Power & Battery

Twice as fast, twice the graphics performance, thinner size, lighter weight, and additional 4G LTE network. One big quetion is, how the battery capacity?

Apple promising a talk time up to 8 hours on 3G, 225 hours on Standby time, 10 hours Video playback, 40 hours Audio playback, and 8 hours on 3G, 8 hours on LTE, 10 hours on Wi-Fi browsing.

In testing with a variety of activities to open the application to use throughout the day by using LTE, GPS and WiFi sometimes, the battery life is capable of an average of 14 hours and 18 minutes. Not the best, but also not the worst.

GADGET REVIEW - HTC brings one more member into HTC One's family - the HTC One S. One S offers elegant design and is the thinnest smartphone made by this Taiwanese vendors. Not only that, even equipped with a dual core processor, HTC claim that the performance of One S could compete with quad-core processor. Really?

Design & Interface
One S is available in two options - ultra-matte black and gray gradient. Although using aluminum, One S remain lightweighted even lighter than Samsung Galaxy S II that uses plastic materials. One S also has awesome thickness - only 7.8mm.

Slightly different from HTC One X which also uses the concept of a unibody, One S has a little plastic panel in the top and bottom on rear body. The plastic panel on the top also serves as cover access to micro SIM slot as well as a place for antenna elements , the right choice to avoid the death grip problem.

Performance
The latest generation of Snapdragon chipset used on One S said to have performance that is able to compete for the performance of its main competitor NVIDIA Tegra 3 which in fact has twice number of core processors.

Connectivity

For the network, One S uses GSM and HSDPA / HSUPA. This makes internet access running well, which of course depends on the quality of available cellular provider. Gadget Review - Through One series, HTC trying to make a breakthrough with the first smartphone that using quad-core processors in their new portfolio. Along with the super-phone - HTC One X, HTC also brings a numbers of other smartphones with lower specifications and of course, more affordable prices. One of them is HTC One V, the cheapest products on the entire One Series squad.

Design & Interface
Remember the HTC typical design that appears on a number of previous Android smartphones such as the Hero, Legend and Salsa? Yup, the curve design at the bottom is now back in One V. Still look weird but cool at the same time.

Body of this phone is dominated with aluminum material and HTC's unibody design characteristic that blend from the backcover, the sides and the front side, precisely below the screen. Additionally, tough Gorilla Glass protected the display and 3 buttons haptic feedback, and plastic materials that cover access to the microSD and SIM card at the bottom-rear.

Unlike the other HTC One series that brings Super AMOLED screen (HTC One S) or Super IPS LCD2 (HTC One X and XL), One V only equipped with standard LCD capacitive. Even so, HTC One V's screen is capable of displaying a good color, contrast and sharpness. One V screen can still be easily readable under direct sunlight and has a wide viewing angle.

Connectivity & Camera

Hardware
SGS3 is not the first with a quadcore processor, recently HTC One X comes first with a slightly higher clockspeed. But, with this kind of hardware specs, SGS3 no trouble running multiple applications at once, and even some features such as Pop Up Play and Live Video List can run smoothly.

SGS3 superior processor is also obviously contribute to accelerate start up time, starting from turn off, SGS3 takes less than 20 seconds to be used in full.

Interface and OS
SGS3 using Android OS, v4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich), TouchWIZ UI 4.0. Samsung said that the design and interface on SGS3 inspired by nature. Not a lot of looks on the design, but it definitely on the interface of SGS3. Since being on the lockscreen wallpaper, you'll find dandelion image that will display an animation effect like a water surface when touched.

You will also hear the sound of water bubbles when touched one touch sensitive buttons below the screen or when making choices on the screen.

SGS3 Features:
1. Smart Stay:
The phone tracks your eyes, so as long as you're looking at it, the display won't dim or turn off.
This is one new feature that first appeared in the SGS3. When activated, the screen will display some of the conditions that prevent these features to work properly. First, while the front camera fails to detect a face. Second, when SGS3 used in darkness and Third, when the front camera is used for other applications.
I was trying to fool SGS3 just by using another object in front of the screen in the normal range when one looks at the phone screen (15-20cm). As a result, SGS3 not be fooled because this technology uses face and blink detection function on the front of the camera. In fact, this isn't a new technology but successfully utilized by Samsung to develop a very useful feature.

2. Direct Call:
If you've got a contact on your screen, there's no need to hit call: simply hold the device up to your face and the number will be dialed automatically.
This feature works when you are on the SMS, contacts or call log display screen. Once again, I tried to "fool" SGS3 to do some scenarios for this feature. The first one, I move the phone like I want to making a call. But, instead of attaching to the ear, I just stick it to other objects, and the result, SGS3 make a calls. The next scenario, I attached SGS3 to ear, but with not a lot of movement and SGS3 does not make a call. So, it means, the direct call feature not only using motion sensors but also combine it with a proximity sensor that is located adjacent to the earpiece and front camera.

3. S-Voice:
That's S for Samsung, not Siri. This feature allows you to control your phone through voice.
Ideally, this feature allows you to instruct the phone to do certain things just by using voice. You can go to the camera feature simply by saying "I want to take a picture" and say "cheese" to take pictures. Other things like sending SMS, find a way, find answers to your questions, and many other functions.
Interestingly, S Voice not only recognize English, but also French, Spanish, Korean, Italian and German. More than the iPhone 4S's Siri which only has supports 4 languages so far (English, French, German and Japanese). And many more features.

Manage BlackBerry Data via PC

Many options available to process data from your BlackBerry. You can get help from default file manager or you can use third party apps. You can also connect your BlackBerry to Personal Computer (PC) using cable data in mass storage mode.

For simple operation like moving files from one folder to the others, copy, delete or make new folder, your BlackBerry handset can do that alone. But for other task like back up data or moving files from BlackBerry to other devices (PC), surely you need to connect those devices together. For that, normally you need a cable data.

The problem is, what if you find your precious cable data nowhere around? Or your PC already full with cables and no place to stick it? Or you simply hate having more annoying cable around you? Whatever your reason, all I wanna say is: stop using cable data, you can connect your BlackBerry to PC without it!

And this is how:
1. Download and Install FileScout

For this task, we need help from third party apps, namely FileScout that you can find in App World. This is a good application, so don't expect it to be free, but surely you can use it freely for a limited time (14 days). After you finished download it, install.
Wait for a while and it will pop up a Application permissions. Click Yes and then save it.
FileScout also one of BBM Connected application, so you must connect it to your BBM. Click connect
On the first run, FileScout will ask you to select which version you would like to use, either full, trial or lite version.
After you make your decision, FileScout ready to go.

2. Install Plugin
Before you can use FileScout properly through you PC browser, you need to install the plugin via OTA (over the air). This plugin not included with installation file you've already installed.

Run FileScout, push Menu button, and choose Options
Now pick WiFi Sharing Options, then click Install Plugin OTA
Your BlackBerry will automatically open browser apps and go to the site to install necessary plugin. Click link text "Click here to install/update your current File Scout.....bla...bla..."
Click download on the next screen. And then click Yes to grant permission for application.
Click Save, and wait until plugin finish downloading and installing automatically.

3. Settings

To run file manager function through browser, make sure your BlackBerry connected to the same WiFi connection as your computer
Run FileScout
Press Menu button, and click Start WiFi Server
Application will show URL that you must fill on your browser
Run web browser on your computer, and insert URL that shown on your BlackBerry before to your browser address bar
To collect data from your BlackBerry, simply open your saved file directory > click on the desired file > choose your destination folder > then click Save
To add a file into the BlackBerry, open the desired directory > select the desired file > click open > then click upload.
When you have finished using the file manager via browser, press the menu, select Stop WiFi Server on BlackBerry.
You can also select Show Host URL to display the URL address that need to be re-inserted into the browser address bar.

Besides using a browser on a computer, the same function can also be done on any other devices that connected on the same network with your BlackBerry. Good luck.

NVIDIA Tegra 3 Technology

NVIDIA Tegra3 (Project Kal-El), the first quad-core processor for the tablet and smartphone in the world. This unique processor is actually using 5 cores: 4 high-performance cores and 1 power-efficient core.

Why Quad Core?

Nowadays, you can find dual-core processors inside almost every smartphones and Android tablet. NVIDIA is one of the manufacture who initiate it. However, along with the increasing application of modern and even high-definition 3D gaming, multitasking capability becomes very important and increasing the number of cores to solve these problems becomes more relevant. Imagine running Facebook, Twitter, IM, MSN Messenger, and several other applications in the background while playing 3D games. Yes, users of smartphones and Android tablet had been treating their devices as its a PC or notebook.

Power Saving Issues

When using 1 GHz processor for smartphones and tablets, especially after the dual-core processors being introduced, saving power begin to be a unique problem. Manufacturers face the dilemma with two options:

processors designed to save power,
processors designed for high performance.

Processors designed to save power is able to work with low voltage (automatic low power) at low speed. The problem, when this type of processor increasing their speed, processor voltage must be raised high enough. Forcing this kind of processor to work at speeds above 1 GHz will make it very wasteful, and even their performance was not very good.

Processors designed for high performance will have a very good efficiency at high speeds. These processors require high voltage to work at high speed (above 1 GHz). The problem is, lowering the processor speed of this type doesn't make it more power efficient.

It's hard to find a solution between the two types of processors above, at least for now. So, the manufacturer have to make a sacrifice: performance or power efficient. Another option is to sacrifice a little from both sides. However, that means we cannot obtain maximum high performance with minimum power consumption devices.

NVIDIA Solution: Why Choose? Simply Use Both Processors

NVIDIA fix the problem with 4 cores and 1 companion core.

Inside Tegra3 there are 4 cores designed for high performance and 1 core that is designed to save power. This technology is called vSMP (Variable Symmetric Multiprocessing). The 5th core is referred to as "companion core" this is the core that works at low speed. While the core 1-4 is core at high speed. These five cores based on ARM Cortex A9 that already famous for high performance.

Interestingly, Tegra3 did not "tell" about the existence of the fifth core to OS. So, the Android OS will detect the processor as a quad-core CPU. When high-performance work no longer needed, Tegra3 internal system will manage the make transition from using only 1 high speed core to companion cores. This makes companion core work more effective.

When using 1 cores for light work, only the companion cores that work (up to 500 MHz), while the other cores are turned off. For heavier work, cores will switch to the first cores performance. If it only takes 1 cores, 1.4 GHz speed can be achieved without having to turn on the other three cores. When more than 1 cores performance work, every cores speed will be limited to 1.3 GHz.

The results of this unique combination are high performance with low power consumption, as seen above from the test results Coremark Performance compared to power consumption.

Meanwhile, when compared to the NVIDIA Tegra2, turns out the power consumption of Tegra3 could reach 60% lower! Something that was unimaginable when we see that Tegra3 is a 4 cores CPU while Tegra2 is a 2 cores CPU.
