“Since our over appreciated, over paid, under worked intern is on wellness vacation in Burkina Faso (Bobo-Dioulasso to be precise), I (the Swedish born Transatlantic brand manager) have had to write this invitation on my own. Results may vary, but at least you get to practice your english and enjoy a text written with a severe lack of emotion or humour.

About a month ago, we opened the doors to our München pop up store that was in collaboration with Amen Store in Munich.

Since then we have searched furiously for a suiting location in Berlin.

You will be pleased to know, we have now found it.

And surprisingly enough to all of us, its in the basement of our new HQ on here Skalitzer Str 104.

This is why we’re very happy to invite you to our Berlin Pop-up store Vernissage. It all takes place this Thursday 16th May. The space will be used for the coming 3 weeks as a showroom, slash pop-up store, slash hug out, slash ghettogether for Muschi Kreuzberg.

And if this wasn’t enough, our good friends over at Jameson’s Whiskey also decided to supply us with drinks for the occasion, so please stop by for an after-work drink around 18:00 when we open, or a bit later if you like to live dangerously and gamble your chances to get on a few of them complimentary cocktails.”

Where:

Skalitzerstr 104. 2 hinterhof.

When:

16th May Thursday

Start 18:00 as long as we have products.

Why:

Friendly faces, Freakishly free whiskey cocktails and Fakers limited edition madness.

The ‘Verein der Gestaltung e.V.’ (an interdisciplinary design collective) invites designers / photographers / creatives to a monthly get-together in the Café Vabrique at Ritterstr. 12–14. Everyone is welcome. Please bring your friends and colleagues. The idea is to meet new people, discuss your work, start new projects or just have a coffee together.

The setting is quite simple: At the beginning everyone should say a few words about themselves. After that the only rule is that it should not be considered impolite to end a conversation to talk to someone else.
Our studio, with 16 working spaces and a photo studio is next door and you are welcome to have a look inside.
Please invite people and try to be on time. It starts at 5pm.

Date: Friday, May 10th, 2013.
Time: 5pm

Memories of parties are always a bit of a blur. But I do tend to get a bit cheesy remembering all those moments full of love. Like when you’re super exhausted after dancing and laughing all night, but you still don’t want to go home because THIS song, I love this song, and I need to stay.

After a couple of years of living and partying in Berlin, we’ve traveled from one group of friends to the next, shared many a festivities with the whole city on big raves and, in general, watched how everything changed so fast. From a very subjective perspective, the wheels turn pretty quickly in Berlin. You have to adapt to changes (well, let’s focus on nightlife here, yeah?) in an instant: closing clubs, changing venues, or a whole crowd that separates.

But last year we finally found something that resembles a steady institution in our lives (it might be a bad sign if you consider a party series a “steady institution” of your life). A place and a party where all of our friends meet up — always. Where we enjoy the night, even when the music is not completely in line with our tastes (that never happens), because everyone’s there, everyone likes to be there. It’s WEBOOGIE.

I know that the vast majority of the techno crowd has already found what I love so much about WEBOOGIE, but for people like me — people who like different sorts of dance genres, I guess we’re the outcasts of Berlin — there was never such a place. I know it’s not everyones game, but I don’t care. If you’re into great and fresh sound and an eclectic mix of people and like to dance your ass off in a former striptease-bar, go ahead and do it.

If a party can be anything like a restaurant, then WeBoogie is the family-owned, loved and cared for diner that is open 24/7 and always serves you with a wonderful warm meal. In fact, WeBoogies trademark is the self-made pizza that you can get during the warm-up of the parties. No shit. I mean, great music AND pizza in one place. You’d think it can’t get better, but it can, and it does.

Today is the first anniversary of WEBOOGIE and we’re super doped up about it. We’re looking forward to celebrating with our homies and friends at Chesters. Looking back on the past partys, we’ll probably be more cautious too; what with all those mobile phone pictures and videos that keep floating up, documenting our wastedness and such. They are our Collective Memories, so to say. And it’s nice to know that just by simply asking within that group of friends, we can find many, many pictures to put up here and share with you.

This first year anniversary will go down in history as the legendary party where I really felt at home. Which might also be because the Chesters, the new WEBOOGIE venue, is located five minutes away from my doorstep. Nevermind though, I’d mighty support it even if Chesters was in Spandau (I probably wouldn’t. Lucky me.)

If you’re ready to take part, let us know in the comments. We’re giving away 2x2 guestlist spots for tonight and we’ll be thrilled to see you there, boogying with our friends, getting wasted in the corner, and letting us take your picture! DJ Paypal, Ticklish, Hazeem, Nightjar and favorite residents Sarah Farina, Genys and Front2blaq will keep you entertained. Be early for the pizza!

Thanks to Ari, Tim and Genys for those precious pictures. We should bring our Lomo cameras more often for sure.

ikonoTV is an innovative media platform dedicated to democratizing art through the production and broadcasting of short films that present art to the wider public. Since 2010, ikono has broadcasted in the MENASA region and Germany through its two high definition television stations (ikono MENASA and ikonoTV), and is continually expanding across Europe. ikonoTV features high definition short films about the arts, broadcasted on a 24-hour basis. Each film presents artworks selected from a wide spectrum of styles, media, and time periods, with no added music or narrative elements to distract the viewer from the visual experience. Working closely with curators, art historians, and filmmakers in the continuous production of new programming helps ikono to bring cultural and artistic diversity from around the globe to the screen.

Backyard cordially invites you to join the opening of the exhibition Almost Legal:

Vernissage 20.04.2013 / 20.00 / Backyard / Gitschiner Str 22 / U-Prinzenstr

Artists: THC Crew, Dan Rowe, Adam Tylicki

Video Premier: 22.30

DJs: DT64, Ghetto Paradise, Suz

It is impossible to take the S-Bahn or the bus in Berlin without noticing the graffitis of Kreuzberg grafitti crew THC. You might have not actively noticed if you’re not into graffiti art, but their works and the three letters T H C are everywhere, not just in Kreuzberg. THC belongs to Berlin just like the Fernsehturm or the Döner, being a group of guys, born and raised in a Berlin of the 90s, influenced by Hip Hop music and the fast changing city. For the exhibition Almost Legal at Backyard, THC is exhibiting for the first time ever inside a room, all legal, a new experience for them and for us. To keep it underground they will premiere a video showing the work process of a piece, on the streets and barely legal. Cause may the rents go high and the streets go pretty, this is still Kreuzberg 36, right?! More about the group exhibition and the other artists taking part after the jump.

In a complete contrast to THC regarding the subject – but not less colourful - artist Dan Rowe is also part of the exhibition. The fact that he is colourblind prevented his entry to art college at a time when it would have been relevant. However, this artist sees what he thinks he sees, feels what he feels and expresses it in oil, on canvas. Dan, already having exhibited internationally (Sydney, London), will show his massive canvas, made in Jamaica, creating a summerish feeling of laid back chilling and dreams of white sand, rastas, reggae music and the blue sea. Reggae has been a huge influence for Rowe from a very young age. So much, that his life ambition was to reach Jamaica, and paint there for a reasonable amount of time. In search of the Jamaican dream, eventually it was found but not without blood and tears.

The exhibition will be completed by the work (sculpture) of Adam Tylicki. Born and raised in New York City, he spent his early years living in his father’s art gallery, a crucial point for his later pursuit to become an artist. Since achieving a degree in Fine Arts Photography & Video at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk, Tylicki has been challenging the traditional way of photography and now sets on redefining the medium he is mainly working in. Following shows in London and Poland where he also resided, Tylicki is now based in Berlin, objectivity and minimalism have overcome the art’s aesthetic in his recent works.

So, dress up tomorrow evening to join the exhibition opening on Saturday and stay for a little afterparty with DT64 whom you already know from the A’ Million party, the cray boys of Ghetto Paradise (they are young and need free drinks) and (curly) Suz. And don’t forget to watch out for three massive letters THC when taking the S-Bahn!

Backyard cordially invites you to join the opening of the exhibition Almost Legal:

♥ SWING SWANG SWUNG ♥

After our first party at Mindpirates last April and finding our monthly home in the former KitkatClub aka Chesters last October, it s hard to believe we ve been Swanging & Banging for a year now! We’ll celebrate with Birthday Specials, exclusives, fresh Pizza: another extravaganza of LUSH CLUB, BLISSFUL BASS & FUTURE BOOGIE.

VIBES VIBES VIBES!

We’re very grateful for your unconditional ♥ and support. We feel extremely privileged to be able to introduce relatively unknown but super talented artists like Obey City, DJ Slow, Piu Piu, Slick Shoota, Alizzz, B-Ju, Fingalick, Nightjar, L33, Justas Fresh, Vaiper and of course don dada Scratcha DVA and residents to an open-minded and ever party-ready crowd — being part of an emerging international scene way beyond boxes and Berlin. THANK YOU.

But, no time for nostalgia as we keep reaching forward and are very excited to bring back some old friends with exclusive new material and premiere two artists from the near FUTURE:

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

♥ DJ PAYPAL (Dirrrty South Internet, USA) ♥

The ROLLER-JUKE, TURBO-SOUL, SEACRUNK, GHETTO-DISCO & TRILLED OUT R&BASED Mysterious Wunderkind touching down in Europe for the very first time after having the the internetz going nutzzz with his #mallmusic #tomcrew #dj mastercard #djboydrama #mollywood crew since 2012. His recently released mix for the almighty tastemakers LuckyMe x Rinse FM show is just a sign of big things to come..

Paypal’s tracks and sets are a like a merry Rollercoaster ride through contemporary club on a cocktail of champagne, purple haze, molly & southern Sizzurp. Either chopped, screwed, twerked or flipped, his style is undeniably Swangy and Unique, adding fresh, soulful and exciting flavors to the current overload of electronic dance music from overseas. SO MUCH FUN.

LUCKY ME x RINSE FM MIX: https://soundcloud.com/luckyme/rinse10
MEGAMIX: https://soundcloud.com/truants/truancy-volume-66-dj-paypal
MEGAHIT: https://soundcloud.com/dj-paypal/skream-under-the-city-lights

♥ TICKLISH — Live Showcase (Loose Squares, Berlin) ♥

A little closer to home, but not less of a future promise, we present TICKLISH: another gem from the Internet. Little is known about this Berlin juke kid. All it took to make us love him was last summers soulful bouncer “ No 1 but U”:

HIT: https://soundcloud.com/ticklishofficial/no-1-but-u

We could hardly believe he lives just around the corner, because his silkie smooth R&B infused melodic footwork is not a sound you would normally expect in our techno capital. Every now and then he would share another track, and it didn t take long for Chicago’s Crissy Murderbot to sign him to his new Loose Squares label. A big sign of approval. We re delighted we ve got the honour of presenting a special pre-release Showcase of his highly anticipated first EP, which also included a remix by our homeböy Slick Shoota. Actually, this is the very first time TICKLISH will make a public appearance and play out his new tunes!

MORE: https://soundcloud.com/ticklishofficial

♥ HAZEEM + special guest MC (Live Showcase) ♥

Ever since Hazeem played at our first party, Berlin’s very own Future Funk & Boom Bip Beatgeek has been taking some serious steps forward. He carved a niche for himself in the German beat landscape, got signed to LA’s soul providers Plug Research, plays weekly gigs throughout the country, and co-runs the internationally acclaimed Beatgeeks nights at Monarch. Tonight he’ll give us a sneak peek of the most boogable stuff he has been working on lately, accompanied by a very special guest MC!

BEATS: https://soundcloud.com/hazeem

♥ NIGHTJAR (Lithuania) ♥

No WEBOOGIE anniversary without Lithuanian input. It s no secret we’re very much into the Lithuanian club scene, and vice versa. We haven’t done one single party without some Baltic Bass. These guys are real craftsmen that know how to rock & surprise the crowd. Outlook Festival Dj champion Nightjar blessed us with a banging 130 bpm set last November and might pitch things up to 140 bpm this time. Listen back to his weboogie warm up mix and prepare for some heavy One Tech Step and UK Club pressure..

WARM UP: https://soundcloud.com/nightjar/weboogie-warm-up-november-2012

FAM-A-LAM:

♥ SARAH FARINA: Rainbow Bass ♥
www.soundcloud.com/sarahfarinabln

On the 20th of April Backyard cordially invites you to join the opening of the exhibition Almost Legal with works of the following artists:

THC Crew

Two Graffiti artists, born and raised in Berlin/Kreuzberg and inspired by the Hip-Hop Scene of the 90s, presenting the pure shape of the letter itself in every facet. By showing our work within this exhibition, our work will be presented for the first time not only on the streets but inside a room. Furthermore they will premier a video showing the work process of several pieces, barely legal.

Dan Rowe

Fear and Loving back a Yard…in Search of a Jamaican Dream

A colourist Rowe is. Colourblind mind, red/green to be precise. This factor prevented entry to art college at a time when it would have been relevant. However, this artist sees what he thinks he sees, feels what he feels and expresses it in oil, on canvas.

Rowe has exhibited internationally, supporting Australian artist Walangari Karntawarra in an exhibition in Vaulcluse, Sydney in 1995. Rowe has also exhibited in Kingston, Jamaica and in London, Penzance and Nottingham in the UK.

Reggae has been a huge influence on Rowe from a very young age. So much so that his life ambition was to reach Jamaica, and paint there for a reasonable amount of time. He considers his prior travels as training for a difficult destination on a budget. In search of the Jamaican dream, eventually it was found but not without blood and tears.

Adam Tylicki

Born and bred in New York City, he spent his early years living in his father’s art gallery, a crucial point for his later pursuit to become an artist. Since achieving a degree in Fine Arts Photography & Video at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk, Tylicki has been challenging the traditional way of Photography and now sets on redefining the medium he is mainly working in. Following shows in London and Poland where he also resided, Tylicki is now based in Berlin. In his recent works, objectivity and minimalism have overcome the art’s aesthetic .

Tylicki considers “New Photography” to be simultaneously the end and beginning of that medium on his artistic path, a new form of perceiving and taking pictures, in itself a conceptual photographic revolution.
