Just to put things in perspective, the media player was downloaded more than 485 million times. Good as VLC 1.0 may be, it is time to leave it and move onto something new, something that’s even better. I am of course talking about making the jump to VLC 2.0.0 “Twoflower”, the major new release that was rolled out to the public a few days ago.

Twoflower has a lot to offer: new rendering pipeline for video, higher quality subtitles, new video filters, faster decoding on multi-core, GPU, and mobile hardware, completely reworked Mac and Web interfaces, new resamplers for higher audio quality, rewritten plugins for better integration and stability in all browser, it supports many new devices, and it can open even more formats.
