“I want to be the best I can be in my field.”

Sally Badoud is the Assistant Director of Marketing and Media Services. She works in the Division of Professional and Continuing Studies at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. After growing up in a rural part of Alabama, she knew education was going to be her ticket to a better life.

Why did you decide to earn a degree?

I grew up working in the fields during the summers, and knew manual labor was not the career path I wanted to take.

What did you earn your degree in and why?

I have a BA in studio art, with a discipline in graphic design. I really wanted to paint full time, but I needed to go in a field that would actually pay a salary!

What opportunities have you had because of your education?

I was able to land a job at a marketing firm the day after I graduated. I moved up within the company, eventually becoming the Creative Director, and was able to branch off in a different direction to become a Marketing Director.

As a small business owner, Zac Williams knows the importance of having the right credentials. He’s enrolled in the Master of Professional Communications program at Weber State University as a way to bolster his credibility and create new opportunities for his business.

One of my favorite things about the program has been the opportunity to be in a program with other professionals and people that have been in the workplace. I’m able to get ideas from not only from the professors but from the other students. It’s a great environment.

Felix is a full-time student, father and husband. He’s staying at home with his two young girls while he’s working on a bachelors degree in Geography. When he graduates, he wants to go into Geospace engineering.

Tomea Knight is the Director of Marketing at La Salle University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. We talked with her about the value of earning a degree as an older student and she sent us some pictures of her favorite Philly-based superhero.

La Salle University has a lot of adult students returning to college after being in the workforce for years. She talked about how flexible class options are a lifesaver for students in Philadelphia too.

She also talked about her favorite part about living in Philadelphia. Looks like Rocky is pretty big out there. No word on how many times they hear “Eye of the Tiger” each day.

More powerful than a busy family schedule!Heather is a wife, mother, and a student at Weber State University. She is currently working on completing a major in Nutrition. When she graduates, she wants to work with children and teach them the importance of eating healthy and exercising. When you’re in Weber State University marketing you are involved with graphic design, photo shoots, WSU swag, print materials, and a lot of other random stuff, which is why my boss says, “I’m telling you you need to be a marketing major, it’s where all the fun is.”

Our most recent project was to recreate a few classic music album covers. The covers were used in a presentation about how versatile our marketing team can be. Check it out!

Where’s Waldo?

Waldo has been cat napped from his home at Weber State University. Now it’s up to the school to find him and bring justice to those responsible. Each WSU home football game a new episode of Where’s Waldo will debut.  Attend Weber’s home games to see all the episodes! Last Saturday, October 15 Weber State’s football team dominated Idaho State University, taking the victory with a score of 39-12!

The following excerpt is from the journal of a new recruit in the Stadium Defense Squad. This elite team of dedicated students is sworn to protect one WSU’s most hallowed landmarks from the hordes of the undead.

Today’s practice was pretty demanding, I don’t know if I’m going to make the cut. Our drill instructor is brutal! I mean, I ran up four flights of stairs, took out three zombies, and all he gives me is “I’ve seen enough.” Uh! How will I ever defend our turf from the undead if my own drill instructor doesn’t think I can do it? Well, I’ll show him diary! Just wait till tomorrow’s practice. I hear we’re starting close quarters combat soon…
