Concerned congressman or anti-woman panty-sniffing monster. You decide.

Bart Stupak, who is apparently a congressman from some horrible depressing dying part of Michigan, does not seem to understand that abortion is a legal medical procedure in the rest of America that isn’t horrible, depressing and dying. So he would like to eliminate the part of the public option that would cover this procedure for poor women, and if his plan also makes it tougher for not-poor women to get this legal medical procedure, well, that gives him a boner too.

Since the Democratic leadership won’t stand up to him (because they are the Democratic leadership, after all) please go make a donation to Planned Parenthood in Bart Stupak’s name here.

Aside from the fact that I can’t understand why people would turn to blogs to follow a news story like the Ft. Hood shootings when they could just, you know, go to the actual news sources that are being paraphrased… I just want to point out that somewhere tonight in America there is a rightwing blogger who is feverishly attempting to connect that dots that will irrefutably prove  that the crazy Muslim shooter was working in conjunction with Nancy Pelosi to draw attention away from Michele Bachmann’s Shoutytime Loonapalooza in DC.

In order to fund her “deficit neutral” health-care reform, Nancy Pelosi is trying to make the millionaire tax a new feature of our federal tax code.

Here is the plan:

The bill is funded largely from a 5.4 percent tax on individuals making more than $500,000 a year and couples making more than $1 million, starting in 2011. The tax increase would hit only 0.3 percent of tax filers, raising $460.5 billion over the next 10 years, according to congressional estimates.

Obviously, I think it really doesn’t make it okay to impose this tax just because only 0.3 of taxpayers will be hit by it. Besides, since the tax isn’t indexed to inflation, sooner than later it is going to make its way to many more taxpayers’ bills than planned today (Remember the AMT).

Turning to de Rugy’s linked article we learn that:

In 2011, a family of four with an income of $800,000 a year would get a $24,000 tax increase, when the new tax is combined with an increase in the top two tax brackets proposed by President Barack Obama and other scheduled tax changes, according to an analysis by Deloitte Tax. That’s a 12.5 percent increase in federal income taxes.

Looks like lil Sloan Madison and young master Harrison Baxter are going to have to develop a taste for Spam, ramen and Pop Tarts. Unfrosted Pop Tarts, at that what with Obama plunging us into Eisenhower-era socialism.

Obviously, the president is unlikely to have any problem with such a tax. From the moment he took office, he made it clear that he had nothing but disdain for high-income earners. His first budget message, for instance, made it sound as if rich people never do anything to deserve the money they make. Really? Check out this list of the 400 richest americans. It’s mainly made of super-producers and not the rich, lucky bonbon-eaters that the president seems to have in mind.

Okay, I’ll bite. Who are these super-producers?

Well there is Bill Gates, okay. Then Warren Buffett who is not-so-fond of pointing out that his secretary pays a higher percentage of her income taxes than he does, so… not good example. Then comes Larry Elllison who is kind of an asshole, so he should pay more.  Followed by, in order,  charter members of the Lucky Sperm Club: Christy Walton, Jim Walton, Alice Walton, and Robert Walton. Then comes that guy who keeps buying the mayors job in New York, and then Charles Koch who, with his brother David inherited Koch industries. And then there are some of teh Google guys and some of those egalitarian hedge fund guys, and a whole lot of other members of the Lucky Sperm Club.

This was indeed sad news at Goldberg ‘09 campaign headquarters (Lucianne’s basement) as Joshua’s opponent was declared the winner about twenty-two seconds after the polls closed. Soon the victory Bagel Bites grew cold, the Yoohoo on ice started to warm as the ice sheds tears of bitter failure. Joshua was left to confront a future that includes a Thanksgiving in a few weeks when brother Jonah pushes himself away from the dinner table after his third pie, looks at his watch, and exclaims,” Whoa. Look at the time! I’ve got an LA Times column to write”.

Joshua will be left to push some of his cold mashed potatoes around his plate with his fork as he thinks back to the advice that his campaign manager gave him but he chose not to follow:

1. Don’t run.
2. If you do, change your name to Jeb Palin.

In New York 23, the conservative movement has made it a Hill to Die On. Here, in New York of all places, the conservative movement will tell the GOP that it will either win with conservatives or lose without them. Conservatives across the spectrum of conservatism from Fred Thompson to Mike Huckabee and on and on have told the GOP it is time to turn back to limited government and will fight the GOP in NY-23 for supporting a woman who embraces large government and destructive social policies.

Doug Hoffman concedes and here comes Erick Erickson tonight:

The race has now been called for Democrat Bill Owens.

This is a huge win for conservatives.

“Whaaaa. . . ?” you say.

There are two big victories at work in New York’s 23rd Congressional District.

First, the GOP now must recognize it will either lose without conservatives or will win with conservatives. In 2008, many conservatives sat home instead of voting for John McCain. Now, in NY-23, conservatives rallied and destroyed the Republican candidate the establishment chose.

I have said all along that the goal of activists must be to defeat Scozzafava. Doug Hoffman winning would just be gravy. A Hoffman win is not in the cards, but we did exactly what we set out to do — crush the establishment backed GOP candidate.

And make no mistake, despite the Beltway spin, we know for certain based on statements from the local Republican parties, that they chose Scozzafava based on advice from the Washington crowd.

So we have demonstrated to the GOP that it must not take conservatives for granted. The GOP spent $900,000.00 on a Republican who dropped out and endorsed the Democrat. Were we to combine Scozzafava and Hoffman’s votes, Hoffman would have won.

And Erick and Sarah Palin and Fred Thompson and Rush Limbaugh and Tim Pawlenty and George Pataki and the New York Post all endorsed Doug Hoffman and now the Republican Party (that Erick wants purged of nonbelievers) should listen to  him because the teabaggers favorite son just lost a seat that Republicans have held for 140 years.

Right. This makes sense.

Despite the brave face Erick is putting on, I imagine that tonight he is sitting a room full of lit candles, wrapped in a snuggie, and crying as he eats a bowl of ranch dressing with a spoon while listening to Karla Bonoff records.

Also. Erick’s victory post may become the most ridiculed post ever. This is good news for Dan Riehl.
