Latam 787 on the tarmac at IPC airport on Easter Island. Flying Latam’s 787 both to and from Easter Island was a really cool experience, especially when I deplaned and boarded via stairs (IPC does not use jet bridges, it’s a very small airport). The view from the window when departing did not disappoint: When I was hiking the volcano crater at the Southern end of the island, Rano Kau, I saw Latam’s 787 getting ready to take off. I was fortunate enough to capture it on video, shared below. I was at an altitude of approximately 1,000 feet above sea level which provided an excellent view of the majority of the island. You can see just how little of the Washington D.C.-sized island is inhabited.

St. Regis Maldives Now Bookable with Points (Web and App)

Beach in Bali, Indonesia. Recently, Marriott and SPG merged which, aside from having some downsides, created a few opportunities. For example, you can book high-end Marriott and SPG properties for 60,000 points per night, with the fifth night free. Unfortunately it has taken Marriott awhile (too long) to make its entire portfolio bookable online so favorites, such as the St. Regis Maldives, have not been easily bookable. The St. Regis Maldives is now bookable with points both online and though the Marriott app. The St. Regis Maldives charges 60,000 points per night, $6 in fees per night, and $695 per trip for a roundtrip sea plane ticket. Overall availability is better than I expected. Remember, you can “hold” the award booking and use Chase Ultimate Rewards and AmEx Membership Rewards to top off your Marriott Rewards Points account. I like when I can redeem points not only for my hotel stay but for food and drinks as well. That is why there is value to be had in redeeming points for all inclusive stays. I have previously written about redeeming points for such stays at Hilton properties. Recently they announced two more all inclusive options. Hilton Playa Del Carmen This adult only resort featuring all-suite accommodations right on the white sandy beaches of Mexico sounds great for a grownup getaway! They are currently accepting reservations for stays starting Nov 5, 2018 and the points cost for double occupancy is starting at 64k per night. You also have the option of paying cash and points. One of the many great features of Chase credit cards was its price protection benefit which allowed you to receive a reimbursement for the difference between the purchase price and a newly advertised price for items bought in the US within a 90 day period. This was great as there was frequently price drops for many of my items purchased. Sadly this option is no longer available for Chase cards as of August 26, 2018. So what are my current options now for price protection? Discover Card: Discover has this benefit but unfortunately this will be discontinued on October 31, 2018. This is my first visit to a United Polaris lounge so I was exited to experience it.
